    Yes. Do the breaks. Analize this stuff. If I want to hear the actual song without interruption, I wouldn't go to a reaction channel.
    Most react channels are absolute horse shite. Yours isn't, because you contribute in a way only a seasoned musician can. You don't overact, you don't fake enthusiasm. You're real and you're knowledgeable. You're a prime example of what a reaction channel _should_ be. Which is a welcome break from what they usually are. So please, keep doing this.

    The most incredible thing about this song especially is, not the fact that Jari has around 1600 tracks on the project for this, but how much content he can fit into a song without making a mess, but instead makes it just incredibly epic and keeps the musicality at its peak. With a little practice anyone can make a composition with two guitars, drums, bass, 40-piece orchestra and 20-piece choir, but here, there's dozen more layers of stuff one wouldn't think could even fit in a song.

      Kai and Jari are absolute savants in their field. Jari lost his touch long ago, but nothing can take away the fact that he's compositional mastermind and incredible musician. Kai is on the top tier with the best of the best drummers in the world and one of the humblest person there is. The drum parts he wrote to this makes the whole thing one of the greatest epic Metal Operas there are. Even tho I don't really like Jari as a person, I still admire him immensely.

    Great reaction! next from Wintersun: Time from the same rehearsal session?
    The lead singer is Jari Mäenpää and he is multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. He is the founder of Wintersun for which he records all instruments except the drums. He asked Kai Hahto to join him and perform the drums. Kai is also the current drum player for Nightwish. Kai is also known as the human metronome. The deep voice you heard, I believe is from Jukka Koskinen, the bass player and backing vocals. Teemu Mäntysann is the lead guitar and backing vocals.

    Years ago I travelled Europe and was lucky enough to find myself in a town in Switzerland called lauterbrunnen. Set up in the mountains, the scenery was akin to something from lord of the rings. Opon seeing the place I decided to go for a walk at dusk and experienc the atmosphere. Head phones on and Wintersun time album playing, it was one of the most epic experiences I've had.

    • @johannesmenzel2024
      @johannesmenzel2024 3 года назад +4

      Are you aware that Tolkien actually spent some time in Lauterbrunnen as a young man (around 1910), and particularly the setting of Rivendell was highly inspired by that valley? The mountain "Silvertine" in LOTR is allegedly (and quite likely) inspired by the Silberhorn summit above Lauterbrunnen.

    • @pque
      @pque 3 года назад +6

      Hi, Swiss Guy here :)
      I can understand how that would have been a very epic experience. As Johannes has already pointed out, Tolkien actually spent time in Switzerland. Other than the steep cliffs of Lauterbrunnen that inspired Rivendell (also: 'Loudwater' -> Lauterbrunnen), he also encountered 'Eiger', 'Mönch' and 'Jungfrau' which inspired the Misty Mountains and Caradhras.
      I'm pretty sure Peter Jackson was aware of this, as well as the fact that climate and mountains in his own country, New Zealand, are somewhat similar (it's on the exact opposite side of the globe after all). I am glad that he chose to film in New Zealand however. If LotR was actually filmed in Switzerland it would constantly pull me out of the immersion as I know the sceneries, plants, and the general look of the landscape very well.

Stops were maybe a tad long, but I really liked the longer stops and the depth of your analysis, and you let the song play out for long sections too, which was great. The tiny rewind before continuing was perfect. I'm sure that with a song as long and as complex as this one that was the reason it sometimes felt that the stops were a little long, so I imagine with something not as insane as this epic metal monstrosity (which I mean in the best way possible) it will work out perfectly. Keep up the great work and I love that you're trying out tweaks! The product pitch on the headphones almost gave me a heart attack at first, but was HILARIOUS. You even got the editing down for that joke, it was perfect! p.s. I would hesitate to put Devin's stuff in the epic metal genre, but I definitely get that a lot of the production style and studio work is very similar, but thats just cuz Devi is a bit nuts with his wall of sound lol -sincerely, A Devin Townsend nerd who isn't that into epic metal

    Jari's also a notorious perfectionist, and has a thing for very complex arrangements. Time II (the latter half of the Time album which had to be split back in 2012) still isn't out, apparently in part because the songs have so many tracks his computer and audio engineering software just can't handle it.

      Speaking of cheesy symphonic power metal, Avantasia's The Seven Angels is fantastic too.
      Edit: Also, the first 2 Avantasia albums are actually called "The Metal Opera" and "The Metal Opera Part II" and they are featuring many high profile artists like Michael Kiske of Helloween, Kai Hansen of Helloween and Gamma Ray, and Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation.

    Thank you! I’m so glad you reacted to this. Wintersun is one of the best bands most people haven’t heard of, and they’re another example of absolutely brilliant Finnish metal. Really, some of the very best metal out there (I’d throw Nightwish into that mix as well) really does come from Finland.
    One of the metal sub-genres Jari Mäenpää, the singer and composer for Wintersun, lists for his music is “epic metal,” which absolutely fits. He used to be in the Swedish folk metal band, Ensiferum, but he left the band and started Wintersun when he started investing more time into the music that would eventually be written for Wintersun’s music.
    Jari Mäenpää is a badass. He screams and sings despite missing a quarter of one of his lungs, which had to be removed due to a battle with tuberculosis he contracted while serving in the Finnish military. I’m pretty sure it was mandatory service, similar to what Israel does. Anyway, he also write all of the music, except for the drum parts, which until recently (I think) was written by Kai Hahto, the current drummer for Nightwish. For his album recordings, Jari’s been known to use up to at least 200 tracks for some of his songs. Jari mentioned in his documentary on the production of his “The Seasons” album that his mind is always full to the brim of musical ideas, and the music is always full and complex like the layering he accomplishes in his music. Although there is so much layering in his music, it never sounds overdone; it always sounds just right for what he’s trying to accomplish. One thing I personally like in this song is how, yes, he sings the melody, but when he’s screaming the guitars will take over that very same melody. It’s a small thing, but it’s so effective.
    The Sons of Winter and Stars is an epic metal masterpiece, and just about everyone who listens to it ends up being _very_ impressed by it and the band itself. I am so happy music reaction channels like yours are listening to them. I hope you’ll listen to more of them. They have two more songs recorded as live rehearsals from I think this very same session. Both are worth listening to and offer even more range and variety from Jari as a vocalist and as a composer. I don’t know why, but Finland has some of them best metal out there, and Wintersun is among the very best in Finland, I think. You’ve mentioned how the music in this song is quite cinema-worthy, and really, I’d love to hear music like this in film. This combination of symphonic music and metal, and when it already sounds epic, add that to what’s happening on screen, and the whole experience will surely be completely memorable.

    If you're not adverse to the idea, I would highly suggest tracking down the lossless audio of the entire Time I album by Wintersun and doing a full reaction video to the whole album front to back. It's part 1 of a two part piece and legend has it that some of the songs contain over 200 individual tracks within the mix. Wintersun are well known for their pristine studio engineering and length between releases due to their perfectionist attitude. Some extremely impressive studio magic done on there. One of the songs on the album is almost entirely made up of notes that have been recorded separately, played in reversed, and then compiled into a string of arpeggios to make the listener feel as though they are travelling back in time to a distant land. Quite spectacular stuff, and either way I enjoyed this video anyway 🤘🙂

    The metal genre has really become the genre of "musicians/composers" over the past couple of decades now. You can especially see it when there are just such a ridiculous amount of "sub genres" within metal. Also, I have also heard the expression that "metal is the new jazz" due to the virtuosity you see from the musicians, particularly from sub genres such as progressive metal and tech/death metal.

The album is composed of 4 songs, each song represent a season and a feeling too, a very personal album, specially for Jari, the lead singer/composer. You will get to fully appreciate their ability to express a feeling, a mood, a color in an universal way, get a message across to anyone that's willing to listen (just like any other wonderful band from other beautiful genres).
