The wintersun harmonies are a thing of beauty.

Funny you should mention Nightwish and Devin Townsend, as Kai Hahto, the drummer plays in Nightwish as well and Devin Townsend is an idol to the composer of the song, the vocalist Jari Mäenpää

  • @eliteextremophile8895

The most incredible thing about this song especially is, not the fact that Jari has around 1600 tracks on the project for this, but how much content he can fit into a song without making a mess, but instead makes it just incredibly epic and keeps the musicality at its peak. With a little practice anyone can make a composition with two guitars, drums, bass, 40-piece orchestra and 20-piece choir, but here, there's dozen more layers of stuff one wouldn't think could even fit in a song.

This song has 1600 tracks. This includes the band instruments and maybe less than a hundred guitar harmonies, and the rest are synths and orchestral stuff. There is a video on youtube where the singer, Jari, demos each track. It sounds incredibly grand.

As a Finn I have to say Wintersun is one of the most Finnish looking band lmao

There is a genre for 'opera metal', most of the bands you are naming are in it. It's called, "symphonic metal" Google it for other bands that mix symphony and orchestral themes into a metal song.

If you're interested in metal opera, you should check out Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down. You get a whole cast of characters in this one.

I heard this live front row, didn't even mosh as i was only staring them mouth open. It was the first time i heard this masterpiece. Not a single mistake and as tight as on the Record🤘

Symphony X - The Oddysey! Better than any other SX song. Thanks buddy!

Who said there is no such genre though? That's exactly what symphonic metal is, and on top of that, there are "metal operas" as a concept album + stage performance as a format. You know, things like Tobias' "Avantasia" or our very own (Russian) "Elven Manuscript" by Epidemia. And arguably, even such classic as Blind Guardians "Nightfall in Middle-Earth" could almost be put in the same category. So yeah, Metal Opera is definitely very much a thing

Yes. Do the breaks. Analize this stuff. If I want to hear the actual song without interruption, I wouldn't go to a reaction channel.

Wintersun, possibly the greatest band that many have never heard of before, which is changing due to so many great reactors on you tube these days. But then there is you. You raise the bar for these great reactors. You sir are top tier, numero uno. For me your reactions and breakdowns are the the benchmark others should aspire to.

Years ago I travelled Europe and was lucky enough to find myself in a town in Switzerland called lauterbrunnen. Set up in the mountains, the scenery was akin to something from lord of the rings. Opon seeing the place I decided to go for a walk at dusk and experienc the atmosphere. Head phones on and Wintersun time album playing, it was one of the most epic experiences I've had.

    You said "metal opera"?

When listening to the full album, I like how the previous song (first on the album) is basically a 4 minute lead-in to Sons of Winter and Stars. I would recommend to anyone to listen through the entire album in one sitting, though, as it all flows together so well.

"Time" from the same rehearsal session is just as good, if not even better. It's my favourite song ever🤘🏻

I found these guys around 2010 and they blew my mind in its entirety with their first record, "Wintersun". These guys really know how to make metal sound so catchy, really tight, and with a production that is crystal clear. Honestly one of the best metal bands in the scene so far.

Thank you! I’m so glad you reacted to this. Wintersun is one of the best bands most people haven’t heard of, and they’re another example of absolutely brilliant Finnish metal. Really, some of the very best metal out there (I’d throw Nightwish into that mix as well) really does come from Finland.
