    Man, you went through that lock like a hot knife through warm butter. Very impressive.

      Only because I know these locks so well... don't forget video 354. This has the same core.

    These are great locks. Also fairly nice bitting on that key as well.

    Great picking Sir. You are a true master at picking American locks and see that you try and click each serrated pin all the way. I in the past was told to set one serration at a time and keep moving over the pins. Love your lock as I have a 5300 in my collection that is identical in every way body wise. All pins in mine were serrated but think only contained two serrated spools.

      "in the past was told to set one serration at a time and keep moving over the pins" ... that's good advice. That said, with heavier tension, the difference between serration clicks and pin setting clicks start feeling very, very different. If you practice enough with it, setting a pin all the way becomes relatively easy.

    • @waddac2
      @waddac2 7 лет назад

      So, to set a each single pins with serrations on do you recommend heavier tension?

    I have such trouble with locks like the 2000 puck lock and the a40 but I can pick the 5200s all day. Just got a 5300 and got it open in two minutes my first try. They're the most fun locks to pick though. Very well made and nice looking! I'm such a sucker for shrouded locks.

      I agree that these locks are great fun to pick... also great teachers for beginners!

    I have a couple American locks with removable cores, but I've never taken them apart to check out the pins; I think I'll do that when I get a chance. Good picking LPL, you make it look easy.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks... And pretty much all of them are pinned like this one... though they usually have fewer serrated spools.

      Hi Mark...My avatar is a woman named Ceara Lynch who makes weird fetish videos, and I'm pretty sure she's never lived in South Africa. I'm not really into her videos but I do think she's gorgeous and the silly cross eyed vampire thing cracks me up, so I've used it as an avatar for a few years now.
      There are a few videos of Ceara here on RUclips, but I wouldn't say they all were work safe, so consider yourself warned if you look her up. ;-D
      Your ex must have been a very attractive lady if she looks like Ceara.

    How funny 74742 is the same key number as my old American locks before I rekeyed them. I've always wondered how long it would be before I found my same key out there. I figured with millions more locks than there are key combinations, it is quite likely.

    Nice piece of steel. I don't think on european market there are any comparable, security-wise (standard pin tumbler), padlocks (i think kasp comes close). But I believe picking an american is same as with abus if you get familiar with them you can open all of them quite easily.

    • @WestCoastPicks
      @WestCoastPicks 7 лет назад +1

      Mateusz W you are correct. With enough practice Americans are easy. Specially since they always come 5 pin and you have to hunt for a good bitting.

    I think the lock says WNI which is April of 2016 so that mast be a very new lock when this video was made. The date code is very hard to read but I think that is what it says.

    I have been learning on American Locks. (Gut, strip, and slowly add pins back in). Any other tips? Recommendations of where to get more pins?

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 лет назад

      These locks are great teachers for security pins. Spend lots of time with them, and you will see improvement across all of your picking. As for tips, my video 97 might be helpful.

  • @DrSid42
    @DrSid42 7 лет назад +1

    LPL, what do you think about security pins as a key pins ? It seems to me that they only have into play when you overset .. which you shouldn't do in the first place. But some challenge locks are full of crazy key pins .. have you ever had some special key pin give you trouble ? Do you consider some of them good idea for a lock ?

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 лет назад +1

      I like them. Understand that not every picker is equally skilled and experienced. For me, oversetting a pin stack on a factory lock is usually very obvious and easy to feel. I usually know it the moment it happens. As such, security key pins rarely present a problem for me. That's not the case with all pickers. In addition, security key pins can be an effective defense against raking.

      Thanks... factory American pins off a pre-cut 6 pin key (if I put the lock into use)... I have a factory pinning kit.

    • @markleng67
      @markleng67 7 лет назад +2

      Hey LPL, I've looked and can't seem to find the info. I have a pinning kit for kwikset; are the pin diameters pretty common for other popular locks? TIA!

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 лет назад +1

      Where are you looking? American lock pinning kits are super common, though it usually makes sense to pick them up on ebay for best prices. That said, I'm sure MrLock and CLKsupply would have them.

    • @markleng67
      @markleng67 7 лет назад +1

      Sorry, didn't make myself clear. I was looking for the pin *diameters* to see if the Kwikset kit was compatible. Guess I could just gut one of my Americans and mic it. (Actually don't need another pinning kit... lol) Thanks.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 лет назад +1

      +Mark England They definitely will not work. American lock pins are much smaller. Not sure of the diameter offhand.

    Well, the _American Lock 5360_ certainly put some high-quality pins in their cylinder. All those serrated spools and serrated pins, hey thats impressive! MasterLock for example just junk in a load of garbage that aren't even machined properly and then have the audacity to call the lock a Pro Series or some other fancy "lock-pick-proof" PR/BS title.🐷😩🐵

    What lock should I buy to save my bike from being taken?

    • @MingusDynastyy

      A thief can take anything with time and tools, your best bet is to commute with a bike you don't care about, but the Kryptonite Evolution series are good.
