I have been making models for the last 45 years, - scratch, kit, flying and static. I have seen countless modelling videos on the web and have met brilliant modellers. This is the first time that I am seeing a model maker who can only be called a Legend. I bow my head to you. You Sir, have raised the bar beyond sight.

I have been a fan for many years but this project is mind-blowing. I don't think anyone on earth could match this level of perfection.
Al, many people are trying to do something similar, although the vast majority abandon their projects right away because they do not have the necessary patience. The problem with younger modelers is that they have grown up in the world of plastic modeling and accessories.

You should definitely check out the work of Young C. Park! He makes metal scale models with fully working ailerons, steering etc.
Sir, it's a little embarrassing for me to talk about Mr. Park, and I only do it when someone makes me a question like yours. In 2013, after the Craftsmanship Museum award my work, Young sent a letter to Mr. Craig Libuse, who in turn forwarded it to me. I have never made public that letter, the content of which is known only by Mr. Libuse (director of the museum), my wife and some friends or fans who compare our work. Among other phrases of appreciation for my work, Young wrote: -"I am amazed at Guillermo models. He is truly the master model of our time. I feel a beginner after seeing his models".

As People, we all look to the best in our chosen professions to measure our own abilities. First, the Apprentice, then the Journeyman then the Master. You are a Master, like DaVinci - do not be embarrassed by that reference, you have earned it. In any discipline it takes years measured in thousands of hours to reach this level of competency. Many here recognise such talent doesn't just "happen overnight". As a Hobbyist Modeller myself the field can be suffused with envy and jealousy which is always absurd to me when I believe the Master's greatest accomplishment is when he is asked questions and his pupils wish to know more. That is how knowledge is passed. I hope Good Sir you teach those of us who are open to learning your techniques so they can transcend time and in 50-100 years somebody is making models of such quality and they can say proudly and without ego "the great Guillermo Rojaz-Bazan was my teacher and my efforts are the result of his teachings and life-long work".
Please be proud of your accomplishments and never listen to the naysayers becase they are like crabs in a bucket - when one wishes to escape to freedom the others pull him down!
Sir, in my very little free time (I still build models under very tight deadlines), I'm writing my "memories". After working for 40 years as a professional model maker in different countries (with four different cultures), I have a number of incredible anecdotes to tell. I think it will be the first autobiography written by a professional scale modeler and it will focus on the bizarre world of scale modeling. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

Chris, as I said to other people, WWII aircraft had the metal skin covering with some rough and rustic finish due to the non-skilled labour and urgency of production (remember Rosie the Riveter). The best way to to replicate that effect, is by hand, as the real machines. Thank you for the nice comment.

Except... everyone seems to want something of themselves left behind to show they once existed. That's why great people have statues of themselves, and monuments. This man's creations are monuments to his monumental skill.
Thank you very much for the comment. It is very difficult to work as a professional in a discipline that is 90% a hobby and where a lot of people confuse roles. It's no coincidence that most of those who write to me privately or via youtube asking me technical questions and advise, they do not subscribe to my channel (they are many, a lot! They seem embarrassed that their colleagues find out). I don't think there is another discipline where egocentrism and envy are so noticeable, just read some poisoned comments on the modeling forums (which is why they are disappearing) or listen to the comments when the awards are given in some IPMS contests. Modelers who dedicate themselves to this as a hobby, should know how to enjoy it as we who were young during the 60s, enjoyed it.

One thing I would like to see is somebody make detailed professional videos of you making your models, as we're all keen on seeing how you do certain things and we have no idea how you manage to create your masterpieces. Every good master needs a visual record of their skills and you are no exception.

It's difficult to find words to describe how incredible this build is, the engine detail is spectacular. I did watch Part 3 first but in a strange way this is more awesome. From here on I'm going to pray every night you will one day focus on the incredible Me262. An aircraft that was a turning point in powerplant & design. A aircraft that influenced aviation and gave us a peek into the future in the 1940's

Thank you, Ian. Of all the Berta series, the B-1 was the one that truly forged the Stuka legend in Spain, Poland and France. However the most popular of the Berta series among plastic companies and modelers is the B-2, which appeared over England when the problems began. That was because no early B-1 version has survived. For that same reason, I built this model, because there is no other reference about this version.

David, I really appreciate your words because you know a lot about this topic. You also give a lot of value to the archaeological research, something that many modelers don't take much into account. From time to time a limited edition copy of F4U, P-51 or Bf109 built by Fine Art Models based on my original models, is put up for sale through eBay or different auction houses. Guillermo

Your work is inspirational. I thought I remember a couple of years ago you talked of retiring...so glad you changed your mind. All the best.

I really appreciate your comment; I never thought of my retirement as synonymous with quitting work, but how to start building models on my own, that is, the airplanes I like, but no one has ever commissioned me (as the big Boeing XB-15, or the Northrop Gamma, the Short Stirling or the Dornier Do 17, for example).
I am currently building a big B-24 Liberator for the 467th Bombardment Association and at the same time working on my first DVD tutorial. I hope that in a few months I can start selling my DVD and so I can spend my time building some model on my own (I am a little tired of having to always build the same "commercial" models). @@rojasbazan I was thrilled this morning by your response email. Thank you so much. May I ask a question? Which do you prefer when you build a model, a painted and weathered finish or natural aluminum? I do brass and white metal and don't care that much to paint or powder coat them. They look great with a natural metal finish.(to me) But some friends say they think the original painted look is better on these locomotives. No one is consigning me I do these for my own collection.
@@188tbone As I like to finish my models in the most realistic way possible, I prefer to leave them in natural aluminum when the original was left in natural aluminum (as in so many B-17s, P-51s and P-47s, among others). And I like to paint them when the originals were painted. In any case, logically my models without paint look more attractive because they show that they are not made of plastic or wood.
@@rojasbazan If you want something truly UNIQUE, Build a Fiesler Fi-167,--a biplane that could descend 10K' to ground, Landing within feet of a blue 4' diameter circle. Fiesler built less than 80, and the Croatians obtained some for their Air Force, --one of whom shot-down a P-51, 200mph faster...With a single, rear gun!
I have found Mr. Bazan's incredible work about four, or five years ago. I was completely blown away. The models look absolutely superb! The level of knowledge and craftsmanship is impressive. It's amazing and humbling to the viewer. I think this is what stroke me most and, at the same time, I find quite distressing to think that all this knowledge, this craftsmanship, the whole process of making such jewels can be lost, eventually. But we live in a moment where knowledge can be shared easily and I believe these techniques, this knowledge of how to build such precious pieces should not be lost. Perhaps Mr. Bazan would consider to make video tutorials showing how he builds these wonders. I don't know if he does workshops somewhere, does he?
Mi dear friend, I really understand your concern. I've been planning to do the video tutorial for years, but my problem has always been the same; the lack of free time because I have to build the models. However I think that in February, when I deliver my current model, it will be time to address this issue once and for all.
But there is something else: the vast majority of modelers have failed to take advantage of the amount of tips and clues that I have given and left on my website (through more than 900 photographs) and on my videos during many years. For example I am still asked what I use to fix the aluminum parts. The answer has been here for over 10 years (search InfoPoxi, it is in Spanish but no translation is needed):

Other modelers have asked me for years how I make engine cylinders without using a lathe (some of them think I lie). The answer is in the Zero Part 1 video (5:12); the photos are very clear.
Others do not believe that I made the corrugated aluminum for the Junkers G24 by hand. The answer is in the corresponding video (0:42).
In addition, the main thing is that I have taught the construction process of several of my models from start to finish, through sequence photography on my website. That is priceless, but it seems that most have not even noticed. So I have already left "something". I appreciate you sharing your thoughts, thank you.

@@proudcanadian5713 Greetings to the lady. A sad anecdote that she may also be interested in; I worked for 14 years for Fine Art Models here in Michigan. The owner collected 15 of my models, including a huge 1:15 scale B-17. Before he died - four years ago - this person sold all my models to a collector who lives in Asia, instead of donating them to the Air & Space Museum or the National Museum of the US Air Force. A pity.

This is mindblowing work, craftsmanship, artistry, and most of all, labour of love, this is an incredibly rare bird, yet you have spent looks like decades collating intelligence and material.
And what a plane to choose, still today (to my knowledge) these were the only bombers capable of diving at ninety degrees to the ground, while in operation, and no current bomber can do that today!
They were a real feat of engineering, and a terrifying weapon.
With next to no airworthy examples existing today I wouldn't be at all surprised if you have someone commission you to build a full scale one.

De hecho se está construyendo uno en Seattle dicen que va a volar (Heritage Museum): ellos dicen que es una restauración, pero la verdad es que lo único restaurado es el motor Jumo211, lo demás es réplica (toda la estructura interior y el recubrimiento es nuevo). Utilizaron como referencias partes de aviones reales, muy deterioradas. Saludos.

Did you use any original Junkers Blueprints? Simply amazing.
The manuals on CD are copies of the originals. Regarding engineering drawings, it is almost impossible to obtain them because the Junkers factories were taken over by the Soviets and a lot of information was lost. Regarding the 3view drawings that appear in so many magazines and books, they all differ from each other for the same reason. I explain all this in the three videos in "Comments".

G'day Rojas, Thank you for replying to my previous comments. I'm surprised that you find the time to respond to so many of your fans who leave comments for you. It's a kind thing to do.
Now that I have seen the level of intricacy of your Ju87, as compared to your B-17, I understand your amazing advancements in your aircraft construction. It is utterly magnificent. I think you have passed through the 'modelling' concept and have now got into, more accurately, 'miniature aircraft construction'. The amount of detailed work you do, beginning with the fuselage and wing spars is stunning. But then, as every edit of this video advances the viewer is repeatedly amazed by the exactness of your cockpit, seat, fittings and, in particular, your flight instruments. You even bother to model the rear of the instrument panel!
Then, comes the tremendous work you have done on the engine block and its fittings.
In my historical research, which I truly enjoy, by the way, I devote many hours and sometimes hundreds of documents to ensure the information I write about is as accurate as it can be; given that, so often, military 'history' is written by the victors in any conflict.
Given that, I am not really surprised that you accumulate so many documents to aid your research into just one aircraft build. Like me, I am happy to see that you have to become selective about the final choice of your, 'best' research material.
As with my initial reaction to your B-17, I am bereft of adjectives to describe your work, save to say that I think the modelling world has been, and is, a much richer place because of your building skills. All artforms (as your work is) need benchmarks for all to aspire to; even with the common knowledge that your levels of skill are attainable by so very few.
Now that I have learned more about you and your work, I can see how, and why, you have brought so much pleasure into the lives of all those of us who love aircraft. Once again, thank you, Sir!

Bill, thank you again for sharing your thoughts. I inherited many aviation magazines from my father, who loved aviation. But since I was a teenager I was dedicated to buying all the aviation books I could find in my country, Argentina. It was times without the internet and sometimes you paid a lot of money for books that barely had a few general view photos, but almost never in close focus. Years later, when Google started "working", things started to get better, but the information was still poor: I remember when in 1998 I was looking for B-17 and barely a few photos appeared.
Today through the internet you can find almost everything, although there are still many people who do not know how to search. Guillermo.

And bonus kudos for reminding me of the Airfix kits that came in plastic bags...
