The Avro Lancaster is a British Second World War heavy bomber. It was designed and manufactured by Avro as a contemporary of the Handley Page Halifax, both bombers having been developed to the same specification, as well as the Short Stirling, all three aircraft being four-engined heavy bombers adopted by the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the same wartime era.
In 1943 the Lancaster was part of a raid over the ruhr area with the aim of suppressing the region's industrial output. A lot of civilian were terrorized both by the nazis and the bombing. So were part of my family who died during the bombing of Duisburg. The Lancaster project is some kind of process of coming to terms with the past. It was important to defeat the nazi terror regime but as in all wars the civilian losses were pure tragedy.
My good friend Erick Miotke put these thoughts into his fantastic composition which supports the animation in an impressive way.
Music: "warmachine contradiction" from Erick Miotke
Here's what he says to his composition: "the track for tom's lancaster model and film is to be understood as a nod to the heroic pilots of these warmachines, just as to the civilians who experienced the hell unleashed on them in the german city targets. it is a contradiction expressed in the two different parts in the track. heaven and hell. with a painful but peaceful ending."
The fantastic kit from Border Model (Molds were developed by Wingnut Wings) in 1/32 is distributed by Modelbau Koenig. www.modellbau-...

I simply have no words. I feel like watching Jesus turn water into wine. This is otherworldly. Also filling the panellines with the sprue plastic has to be the most ingenious thing I ever saw a modeller do. And don’t get me even started on the stop motion. The model in itself is perfection and would have carried the video, the stop motion makes this video an artpiece

If you want to read an excellent book that describes the experience of the night bombing raids over Germany, I recommend "Bomber" by Len Deighton. He describes what happened on both sides, German and British, in unsparing detail. The book gets a bit gory but it ends with a colossal bombing raid that is very powerfully depicted. Regarding this Lancaster project, nobody does this kind of production better than Tom. I am always amazed by his detail and cinematography.

An absolute triumph of modeling and videography. My jaw is still on the table. I feel like I'm in a dream. How is what I just witnessed even possible. Bravo!

This is the most incredible video you have ever made and I have ever seen. The detail in this scale is rarely captured but you made it real. One detail I'll bet your viewers missed is the Lancaster is the only bomber in WW2 to have a " loo", British for bath room. You actually caught it as the scale is big enough to put it in. I put this video up on my big screen TV, and it was incredible. Now if only I could build like this. That kit is almost a 6 month build easy. While many model builder videos talk over their building, this style is great " Just show me the model" :-) Congratulations and Thanks.

What a fantastic video, it must have been an absolutely enormous work. A piece of Art, like ALL your other creations. Thank you very much here from Denmark.

Great video as always. I have the HK kits in 1/32 and 1/48 ready to go at some point. You make the build process look so simple even though I know it is far from easy. I also like the various tips you have added.

OK I am done with the video and the model is pretty but seriously the editing stop motion. Overall video quality is the work of art I don’t almost put the model second but it is a really pretty model as well. Lol really really really nice subscribed

Superb. A lovely watch, quite hypnotic 😀
Really want this kit, but the sheer size of it is somewhat prohibitive :)

Thanks - I know exactly what you mean. When I first opened the box I was instantly intimidated by the shear amount of sprues ...
