Catelyn grabbed a handful of Jinglebell Frey's long grey hair and dragged him out of his hiding place. "Lord Walder!" she shouted. "LORD WALDER!" The drum beat slow and sonorous, doom boom doom. "Enough," said Catelyn. "Enough, I say. You have repaid betrayal with betrayal, let it end." When she pressed her dagger to Jinglebell's throat, the memory of Bran's sickroom came back to her, with the feel of steel at her own throat. The drum went boom doom boom doom boom doom. "Please," she said. "He is my son. My first son, and my last. Let him go. Let him go and I swear we will forget this . . . forget all you've done here. I swear it by the old gods and new, we . . . we will take no vengeance . . . " Lord Walder peered at her in mistrust. "Only a fool would believe such blather. D'you take me for a fool, my lady?" "I take you for a father. Keep me for a hostage, Edmure as well if you haven't killed him. But let Robb go." "No. " Robb's voice was whisper faint. "Mother, no . . . " "Yes. Robb, get up. Get up and walk out, please, please. Save yourself . . . if not for me, for Jeyne." "Jeyne?" Robb grabbed the edge of the table and forced himself to stand. "Mother," he said, "Grey Wind . . . " "Go to him. Now. Robb, walk out of here." Lord Walder snorted. "And why would I let him do that?" She pressed the blade deeper into Jinglebell's throat. The lackwit rolled his eyes at her in mute appeal. A foul stench assailed her nose, but she paid it no more mind than she did the sullen ceaseless pounding of that drum, boom doom boom doom boom doom. Ser Ryman and Black Walder were circling round her back, but Catelyn did not care. They could do as they wished with her; imprison her, rape her, kill her, it made no matter. She had lived too long, and Ned was waiting. It was Robb she feared for. "On my honor as a Tully," she told Lord Walder, "on my honor as a Stark, I will trade your boy's life for Robb's. A son for a son." Her hand shook so badly she was ringing Jinglebell's head. Boom, the drum sounded, boom doom boom doom. The old man's lips went in and out. The knife trembled in Catelyn's hand, slippery with sweat. "A son for a son, heh," he repeated. "But that's a grandson . . . and he never was much use." A man in dark armor and a pale pink cloak spotted with blood stepped up to Robb. "Jaime Lannister sends his regards." He thrust his longsword through her son's heart, and twisted. Robb had broken his word, but Catelyn kept hers. She tugged hard on Aegon's hair and sawed at his neck until the blade grated on bone. Blood ran hot over her fingers. His little bells were ringing, ringing, ringing, and the drum went boom doom boom. Finally someone took the knife away from her. The tears burned like vinegar as they ran down her cheeks. Ten flerce ravens were raking her face with sharp talons and tearing off strips of flesh, leaving deep furrows that ran red with blood. She could taste it on her lips. It hurts so much, she thought. Our children, Ned, all our sweet babes. Rickon, Bran, Arya, Sansa, Robb . . . Robb . . . please, Ned, please, make it stop, make it stop hurting . . . the white tears and the red ones ran together until her face was torn and tattered, the face that Ned had loved. Catelyn Stark raised her hands and watched the blood run down her long fingers, over her wrists, beneath the sleeves of her gown. Slow red worms crawled along her arms and under her clothes. It tickles. That made her laugh until she screamed. "Mad," someone said, "she's lost her wits," and someone else said, "Make an end," and a hand grabbed her scalp just as she'd done with Jinglebell, and she thought, No, don't, don't cut my hair, Ned loves my hair. Then the steel was at her throat, and its bite was red and cold.
The aftermath of this scene as the opening scene of next episode was more heart wrenching than the scene itself. Watching Robb and grey wind's corpses being brutalised was the absolute worst😓😫
Things like we all knew Jon wouldn't die in the battle of bastards. Bronn would save Jaime. Dany wouldn't die. The Night's king wouldn't kill Drogon and many more things in the 7th season especially
I am re-watching the series while I wait for the house of the dragon. I just watched this episode. I knew what was about to happen but as soon as the rains of castemere started playing in the scene, my breath began to tighten. I had to skip all the episodes in between and jump on the episodes in which Arya destroys the Freys, to calm myself down
I recall yelling at the TV when I saw the chainmail and the look of alarm on Lady Stark's face, "GET OUT OF THERE! GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE!" Lady Stark's only flaw was her irrational hate for Jon, beyond that she projected a grizzled veteran of politics and diplomacy. I love her increasing sense of quiet alarm as the scene proceeded. A great actor, it's too bad they didn't bring her back as Lady Stoneheart.
That look Roose Bolton gives Catelyn at 2:07 is absolutely chilling. I remember the first time I watched this, already uneasy from the strange tone shift, I didn’t know what exactly was going to go down but that moment made my blood run cold. The acting in this show was incredible.
When I first watched this scene I was literally shaking in horror and sorrow. And that says a lot, considering I’d already been spoiled countless times about this moment beforehand.
@@John_Smith_86 For real, this was much better in the books. In the show, he cared more about his dick than about keeping his oaths. But in the books, he only slept with Jeyne Westerling because he was vulnerable after Theon’s betrayal. He then only married her because she was pregnant, in order to ’keep her honor intact’.
To this day, that violin and that tune follows me the way a cloud of impending doom does the unfortunate. I know it’s just a show, yet this will stay with me forever 🙏🏾
I started watching GOT a few days ago only , 10 years after it's 1st episode released and just finished watching this episode.... You all should have warned me😭😭😭....I fell for Rob since his character's introduction... I haven't finished the series but I bet he is gonna be my fav forever.
I remember when I first watched this scene I was literally shocked and traumatized because I wasn't expecting the wedding feast to turn out the way it did. So many deaths in one scene. So tragic. And Robb's body sewn to the head of his wolf? That's so messed up.
wonder if they released these specific clips again because they will be important for season 8. Every battle, betrayal, alliance, risk, fight, sacrifice, oath, death is all for the throne.
Watching the repeat yesterday of this episode on "Games of Thrones" still made me cover my eyes. The brutality is unimaginably horrible. If humans really behaved like that we are doomed.
The saddest thing is that deep inside, we know we would. The worst part of this hole scene is not the massacre, is the realism and the possibility of this happening. We humans have done, through history, the unimaginable.
People should have realized what's about to happen when the boltons released jaime lannister and Jaime said send rob stark my regards obviously the name of the chapter "rains of castamere"
I started when season 7 was released and never had any spoiler ruin the show and didnt read the books so this was crazy brutal. What great writing they had when the show was based of the books.
It's funny how literally every wedding in this show involved violence or the threat of violence. Weddings in GOT are like the most dangerous events in the kingdom. Makes you wonder why anyone ever got married.
The first time watching this, I already knew what was going to happen, so it didn't impact me much, but on the second viewing you see all the subtle foreshadowing and in the books characters even have dreams about it before it happens (I believe it was Bran, Rickon, Danyerys, and Mellisandra). The significance of Reigns of Castemere also will play in your mind. They actually play the theme a lot during the show, including Tyrions speech on the Blackwater, Jaime and Cersei dialogue scenes and more. Bolton being super supicius is also something you won't pick up on at first. You can see how nervous he his, and as it gets closer he inches closer and closer the Catlyn, like he wants her to see the chainmail he has on. Cat slowly becoming more suspicious with Roose in the beginning and even more when the Stark Bannerman leave, then she realizes what's going to happen when Reigns of Castemere starts playing. The realization that an entire plotline is over at the end makes you take a step back, because in a season of foreshadowing and 5 minutes of time they killed off an entire rebellion.
I didn't even notice the fact that they were playing the rains of castamere the first time I watched this. That was haunting to listen to again knowing what will happen.
If you read the books, you obviously know what was coming but it was really cool to see Catelyn Stark immediately recognize “The Rains of Castamere”. But she was quicker to try and warn Robb than this

Back in the day, this was very hard to watch, but for being honest and now that I rewatched the series, it all made sense. Rob was loosing the war and he was very cocky, then he decided to betray Walder Frey, who had lots of problems with both Tully and Stark's houses. The lesson here is always keep your promises, and more if you promise it to a bandit as it was Frey.
It's cool how the Hound calmly assessed the situation and knew to leave immediately.

I swear it by the old gods and new, we . . . we will take no vengeance . . . "
Lord Walder peered at her in mistrust. "Only a fool would believe such blather. D'you take me for a fool, my lady?"
"I take you for a father. Keep me for a hostage, Edmure as well if you haven't killed him. But let Robb go."
"No. " Robb's voice was whisper faint. "Mother, no . . . "
"Yes. Robb, get up. Get up and walk out, please, please. Save yourself . . . if not for me, for Jeyne."
"Jeyne?" Robb grabbed the edge of the table and forced himself to stand. "Mother," he said, "Grey Wind . . . "
"Go to him. Now. Robb, walk out of here."
Lord Walder snorted. "And why would I let him do that?"
She pressed the blade deeper into Jinglebell's throat.
"But that's a grandson . . . and he never was much use."
A man in dark armor and a pale pink cloak spotted with blood stepped up to Robb.
Bravo
Wow thank u for this
The most daring movement in the world of cinema, it is impossible to find a scene with this boldness, everyone was literally shocked .
this isn’t cinema it’s television 😂
@@leojs5673 It's not television it's HBO.
@@SaltyDingleberry3000 HBO is literally television
Catelyn know what will Happen when the band play the Rains of castamere
she knew when she watched the doors get shut
Watching that look on on Caty's face breaks my heart. She's so shocked. This scene as a whole is just gut wrenching!
“No… no, don’t cut my hair… Ned loves my hair.”
- Catelyn Stark’s last thoughts
The red wedding is probably the most iconic and gut wrenching moment in TV history.
Catelyn’s scream after Robb’s death was very heartbreaking
Even after all this time, it's never gotten any easier to watch.
The aftermath of this scene as the opening scene of next episode was more heart wrenching than the scene itself. Watching Robb and grey wind's corpses being brutalised was the absolute worst😓😫
That music they played after closing the gate is actually the theme song of House Lannister. That's why lady stark continuously stared at them
"The Rains of Castamere" is a song which immortalizes the destruction of House Reyne of Castamere by Tywin Lannister during the Reyne-Tarbeck revolt.
Ah, the time when story was valued more than CGI.
So true
To be fair this was before dragons and white walkers
The dragons and White Walkers are not the problem
What is then?
Things like we all knew Jon wouldn't die in the battle of bastards. Bronn would save Jaime. Dany wouldn't die. The Night's king wouldn't kill Drogon and many more things in the 7th season especially
I'm always like "Oh no these poor doggos." Or wolves. Whatsever.😂
Same, i am always more sad when a dog is dying than when a human is dying xD Except for the robb he was my favourite character:(
Neither, DIREwolves
In the book they will cut his head and put it on top of robs body
@@Ti5526-n6n they do that in the series as well if I remember correctly
when i first saw this scene i was so shocked that i didn't speak for an hour...and was still thinking what just happened...GOT forever
The Lannister's theme playing on the cellos is just ... perfect. Absolute perfection.
I miss Catelyn so much...she was a great mother and character, if only Robb had listened to her things would have been different here.
That look from Lady Stark when the rains of castmere tune is being played at the wedding - That was the best subtle moment in this scene.
“Yes, now the rains weep o’er his halls and not a soul to hear.”

Who is here after hearing Johnny cage say “season 3 episode 9”
Who?
Johnny Cage from Mortal Kombat
I am re-watching the series while I wait for the house of the dragon. I just watched this episode. I knew what was about to happen but as soon as the rains of castemere started playing in the scene, my breath began to tighten. I had to skip all the episodes in between and jump on the episodes in which Arya destroys the Freys, to calm myself down
Still one of the most shocking scenes in history of tv scenes
I recall yelling at the TV when I saw the chainmail and the look of alarm on Lady Stark's face, "GET OUT OF THERE! GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE!"
Lady Stark's only flaw was her irrational hate for Jon, beyond that she projected a grizzled veteran of politics and diplomacy. I love her increasing sense of quiet alarm as the scene proceeded. A great actor, it's too bad they didn't bring her back as Lady Stoneheart.
No, I'd say her only flaw is whatever caused her to think releasing Jamie was a good idea.
I have never been so pissed in my life until I watched this episode!!!
When I first watched it I couldn't sleep in the night.
Yea, Robb brought this upon himself by dishonouring his word first. Well deserved death
@@x-omnistar-x9602 Fair enough. Still warrants the death penalty though
To this day, that violin and that tune follows me the way a cloud of impending doom does the unfortunate. I know it’s just a show, yet this will stay with me forever 🙏🏾
The definition of the “why do I hear boss music” meme
I started watching GOT a few days ago only , 10 years after it's 1st episode released and just finished watching this episode.... You all should have warned me😭😭😭....I fell for Rob since his character's introduction... I haven't finished the series but I bet he is gonna be my fav forever.
Same here. Robb was the character I fell in love with as soon as I saw him for the 1st time
In the wise words of Ramsey Bolton, if you think this show has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

That added moment with the guards running towards the feast just ups the tension that much more. Brilliant.
Its comming i can feel in my blood my lords and my ladys
Robb Stark The Real King in The North👏👏
Jon Snow The King of Westeros
I remember when I first watched this scene I was literally shocked and traumatized because I wasn't expecting the wedding feast to turn out the way it did. So many deaths in one scene. So tragic. And Robb's body sewn to the head of his wolf? That's so messed up.
Yea, Robb brought this upon himself by dishonouring his word first. Well deserved death
@@John_Smith_86 i agree
wonder if they released these specific clips again because they will be important for season 8. Every battle, betrayal, alliance, risk, fight, sacrifice, oath, death is all for the throne.
Lol
Too bad season 8 never got released. I hope some day they do finish the series.
@@docbrown2045 They honestly should just remake it and add more seasons while there's still time with the actors
Biggest moment in TV history!!! 🤯🤯🤯This entire scene shocked me to my core! Absolutely heartbreaking! 💔
Love this scene. Brutal justice! The Lannisters always pay their debts...
You're sad
Watching the repeat yesterday of this episode on "Games of Thrones" still made me cover my eyes. The brutality is unimaginably horrible. If humans really behaved like that we are doomed.
The saddest thing is that deep inside, we know we would. The worst part of this hole scene is not the massacre, is the realism and the possibility of this happening. We humans have done, through history, the unimaginable.
This scene is taken from a historical event in Scotland. The world is actually like this.
Guess we're doomed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Humans do behave like that… what kind of ivory tower do you live in?
@@OntologicalCatastrophethe Glencoe massacre

Yesss! Hahahaha!
Yup
Waching Catelyn Stark's reaction when the doors close and The Rains of Castamere starts playing is so harrowing.
Why do I keep hurting myself rewatching this
Oh so this is what Johnny Cage was talking about in the Cyrax trailer 😂😂😂

What
The importance of the music in the books was perfect
So heartbreaking, Arya was so close to finally being reunited with her family 💔
People should have realized what's about to happen when the boltons released jaime lannister and Jaime said send rob stark my regards obviously the name of the chapter "rains of castamere"
One of the most shocking and greatest scenes in GOT. Aryas revenge later on in the show was absolutely perfect
I started when season 7 was released and never had any spoiler ruin the show and didnt read the books so this was crazy brutal. What great writing they had when the show was based of the books.
I was spoiled for this moment but it was still so shocking… Catelyn’s scream is heart-wrenching
And there went the best hope for a king Westeros ever saw...
It's funny how literally every wedding in this show involved violence or the threat of violence. Weddings in GOT are like the most dangerous events in the kingdom. Makes you wonder why anyone ever got married.
robb and talisa got married peacefully?
@@grayolson3952 Good point, although there wasn't much of a wedding for that. It was just their own private event.
I'm don't even know what to do after this the first time I'm watch. What a shock, it changed me
When the Lannisters music played i got goosebumps
This scene gave me PTSD
The North remembers!
I dont know why but i wont ever forget this scene and the feels i had first time watching this.
0:30 When I hear someone play Coldplay.
The one Dothraki guest: " Well done, Westeros👏"
But she was quicker to try and warn Robb than this
I heard the show stays similar to the books up until around halfway through season 5 and that’s when it entirely goes in it’s own direction.
@@OWmyDragonballz in the books catelyn is still alive.. she got resurrected by a red priest .. also there another targaryen besides jon and dany... i really wish sometime in the future they redo the series be it live action and animated and make it more in line with the books
@@Discipleofmora”Still alive” is not so appropriate in her case…let’s say she’s an undead now.

Goosebumps !! Every freaking time
For me this is the most shocking scene in the whole series, wow, absolutely well done
I've seen it for the first time rn and ive cried but yk what's the scariest part? When they yell "king of the north is coming" that was terrifying
Until tonight when I finally watched this episode, I've miraculously avoided all spoilers of the Red Wedding. I only knew it by name, and tonight, I finally had the pleasure of experiencing this gut-thrilling scene!
The Red Wedding episode, is the only episode in the whole show that doesn't have outro music at the end.
This doesn’t get any easier to watch, it still leaves me with goosebumps every time. ☹️
I tell you this is what the house of the dragon is missing and will not be remembered for because that blood and cheese scene had everything set up to be remembered but unfortunately the showrunners did not want to execute it because they are so turned off by the blood and gore and I think us fans are a bunch of sick people.
The one of the greatest plot twist I've seen, totally dropped my jaw off, i didn't saw it coming
Glad you cut that before the..... 😭 🍷 Was a mess i will never forget
Once in a while I rewatch the red wedding to remind myself all good things come to an end, with some bitterness. #RIP the king-In-The-North
*Nooo! I'm crying again 😭😭😭*
"spoilers ahead" but surely not catelyn staying with knife to her throat on the thumbnail 🤙
