I love this series. I picked up the manga about 6 months ago and devoured it. And the thing that really clicked with me was Kafka. Kafka looks like me, he's my age, and even though he's surrounded by people who are better than him at the thing he wants to do, it doesn't mean he has no value. Being average, single, not having achieved everything you wanted in life by your 30s, doesn't make you worthless. That's a lesson a lot of 18-30 year olds need to hear, I wish someone had told me that when I was 18. In high school I was a big fish in a small pond, when I got to college, I was surrounded by people who were smarter, more athletic, more aspirational, more attractive, charismatic, creative. If I was good at something there were 50 people my age who were better. I felt worthless, like why even try to get better when I'm already so far behind? It took me YEARS to get past that and start trying again. And when I did try, I succeeded, I got a job I was good at, using skills I'd learned I didn't even realise would help me. If you'd told 23 year old me, in the bottom of a pit of depression, getting up at 4am to scrub toilets and mop floors, where I'd be 10 years later, I would not have believed you. We need more protagonists like Kafka. Who tell us it's okay to not be where we thought we'd be when we grew up, who tell us it's okay to not be the best at something, to be kind, to not cheat, to keep trying, and to accept less than perfection.
You hit the nail on the fucking coffin. There was one comment saying “Kafka got lucky becoming a kaiju” but a key thing they missed is that he was determined to try the test one more time even after all he had been through. He’s also still a hero when gaining power, again after all he’s been through. It’s inspiring fr and exactly like you said we need more like him
Ichikawa was a super refreshing character, when he was introduced i thought he was going to be the edgy co-main character trope like a Sasuke or Fushiguro, but he is actually very likeable
Hmm although I am 18 I can understand the inner conflict of Kafka. In my oppinion this anime/manga has the Potencial to be one of the best in shonen jump due to his new and fresh art it brings with it
TY FAM ❤️ I always need reminders like this and I really do appreciate it. At the end of the day it’s just slightly annoying that the views are as random as they are but what matters more is having goats like you around
Dude, don't even dare not say you are young. I am 34 and I still don't think of myself as old. I am grown up. You have the best years still ahead of you from 21-30.
Exactly, I felt the same way, I’m in that weird middle phase and it’s nice to see older characters, especially when they get reinvigorated to chase after something, it’s really motivating
Are you kidding me man? At 21 you are still growing up till 25. You are as young as you feel you are. If you don't understand "kids theese days" that's normal. For me it started in high school when i realized that I can't understand theese kids. They whant to separate themselfs from the others. At one point i gave up on life because of depression, anxiety and health problems. When i was about 20 years old i viewed myself as an old man whith 10ish years left. Now when i'm 24 i realize that my life is not even started. Simple workouts, lots of psychotherapy and some real life experience made me realize that life is not over. And the peak of man's happines and abilities(with proper maintanance) is around the years of 30-40. Be strong and take care of yourself "old man".
I Love this so much ima screenshot and just save it to keep me grounded, appreciate the advice so much, thank you again and enjoy your day you wonderful person.
As a 24 year old who actually became an uncle last year, if you aren't sure if you are unc you aren't unc. Man I thought I was old at 21 but it gets significantly worse much faster. My back is killing me and all I want to do is sleep, but I push through and do what I need to do. I'm not sure how I will feel when I'm 30 but I do know I will look back at this time and think "Did I really believe I was old back then?".
Age and time is just impossible to deal with, but one thing I realized and hopefully helps both of us is trying to appreciate the little things, and taking it a day at a time. Not doing that is what makes it feel like it passes by so quick and it’s something I gotta constantly remind myself. I can’t say it’s all perfect and I have no idea yet but I’m sure being an uncle is as great in many ways it’s just up to you to find it and it’ll be the same for me soon enough 🙏
I’m 2 years older than you and I don’t understand this trend of feeling old and having pains etc at this age. I literally feel the same as I did 10 years ago . If anything I feel even better physically since ive been practicing regular exercise since then. I think it’s highly lifestyle dependent, not based solely on age.
@@powpowouchy5 physically I’m at my best I’ve been ever, but it’s that sort of age where you’re supposed to have life figured out and soon I’m graduating college, I think that’s what messes with my mental. But in reality I know it’s nowhere near old just at times feels a little bit like it
I'm turning 30 this year, I lost my job due to a new law that was passed locally, been unemployed for months, nowhere is hiring, and I have college that I started late, that I have to pay for. Between this anime, and my supportive partner, and child, it's the only things keeping me going. I started so late. Hard not to feel depressed about everything right now.
Keep at it fam, countless times life puts us down and it’s happened so much I realized it’s just part of living. But what makes it even better is our ability to come back from it, the indomitable human spirit ! Keep grinding

"I'm hitting unc age" at 21. I feel ancient, but I'm still considered a baby at 31 where I work. 21 is very young, btw. I'm so happy Kafka exists though, I don't relate to high school kids anymore...
Bro, 32 is a Dinosaur in sports field but is a little baby in academics! I mean look at bloody Roy P. Kerr or sir Roger Penrose! Still rocking ground breaking papers at 89 & 92 ,respectively! It's relative, don't get discouraged and age has its own merits too! With age comes certain wisdom! Always respect the grey hairs!
FACTS!!!!!!! I love this comment it’s so true too, I always look at Walter whites actor Bryan Cranston as someone who loves film and finds myself lost at times, he’s so reassuring that finding success has no time limit
I am 28 and an avid anime comedy fan. It's easy for me to find anime with adult characters to be honest since I'm not into the shonen demographic that much. For example, I recently watched a comedy called Uramichi Oniisan (sorry if I butchered the title). The main characters are between 28 and 32 and it shows their daily struggles at work and life. Shonen targets teens and, therefore, the protagonists are teens or young adults themselves. On top of that, as other comments implied, adult characters in shonen tend to be more "childish". That's why it doesn't bother me that much. I'm watching shonen for pure entertainment but it's difficult to identify with a character.
Fair point and I understand shonen literally translates to younger so it’s meant for that, but to say mainstream anime shonen or not isn’t primarily high schoolers would be a lie, and something some people in the comments keep ignoring. I just happened to use this shonen as an example but my point was that I’m glad it’s a slightly older protag even if he acts young(which also I don’t see why that’s an issue, we should try to keep our young spirit even if we’re older)
“Subversive is when the mc has my age” You cant make this shit up, the mc acts like a teenager whats the difference then? Glazing mid needs to be shut down
Wait till he finds out Goku was 26 at the start of DBZ and Vegeta damn near 50 years old, Gintoki from Gintama being 29, Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star being in his mid 30s. Kaiju No. 8 is doing big tings!

I remember reading this manga. Huh, it got an anime. It was good until it just became a typical shounen. Could have been so good if it really was about a man in his 30s finding his place late in life as a man in his 30s. But it was a facade, like a 1000 year old loli, the only thing actually different is the numbers under age on their resume. Did it got better after I stopped reading? Maybe. Not betting on it though. Another manga that subverts this trope is Magical Girl in her 30s, straight to the point, that title. Now that one actually emulates the life of an actual 35 year old with a social life, appearances, a job, etc. to worry about while being thrusted into a setting meant for very young teenagers, lol. No anime though.

@@AntiKash No way I'm watching this awful video
@@kalb390 lol well says a lot about yourself my friend. Don't judge a book by it's cover is one of the first lessons we learn... good luck with life!
@@AntiKash Good luck with Kindergarten, I see you have a long way to go.
@@kalb390 amazing joke right there, the crowd goes wild......
It’s inspiring fr and exactly like you said we need more like him
This is the first video from you I've seen and honestly I enjoyed it
Ayy thank you, glad you enjoyed it and if you stick around hopefully I can get even better with time

*Fun Fact:* The character designer for this anime is Tetsuya Nishio, the same character designer for Naruto/Naruto Shippuden.
Ahhh I knew this art style felt familiar, that makes a lotta sense

Facts that’s what so many people are missing out on too from early judgement , this series is developing really well
Criminally underrated
Hmm although I am 18 I can understand the inner conflict of Kafka. In my oppinion this anime/manga has the Potencial to be one of the best in shonen jump due to his new and fresh art it brings with it

I really love Kafka. Even though I’m not as old as him yet, I’m an adult still looking for my final endgame in life.
Exactly, I felt the same way, I’m in that weird middle phase and it’s nice to see older characters, especially when they get reinvigorated to chase after something, it’s really motivating

As a manga reader the anime so far is doing a extremely good job.
Glad to hear that, I hope they keep it up honestly
No, it's not breaking every anime trope. It's quite within the troops. But there's nothing with that. As long as it doesn't rely on the tropes.
Yea title was just a title at the end of the day,
ngl kinda refreshing for recent anime to have protags that aren't overpowered teens with Frieren, Dungeon Meshi, and Kaiju No8
Exactly it’s a really nice change of pace
As a 32yo weeb Im loving this anime

I read JJK and I enjoy it a lot. Something I think people should do is if you start to feel burned out just take a break and come back in a couple weeks, plus then you get to catch up. Sometimes you gotta step back for a bit. :)
Bet that’s good to hear honestly, some manga readers tend to be wrong and like you said could be burnout so hopefully it’s still good and people are wrong 🙏
@AntiKash I'm enjoying it. Sometimes I skip a week or two and get bonus chapters when I'm back. It helps.

It's a shame your stuff is bombing man, because your content is awesome. Still would love to start making content with you, if you are ever down. Also! I am definitely surprised that you are only 20, I am 25 and thought you were my age or older. As far as Shogun! Definitely recommend the book if you have not read it, or going back and watching the old miniseries. James Clavell, the one who wrote Shogun is a phenomenal author and lived in Japan for a long time (might still live there, don't quote me on that). Regardless! Keep your head up!

Ah I’ll have to check out magical girl in her 30s then, but damn that’s disappointing, I get shonen is meant for younger audience but if you have a older protag, at least try to maintain that
