VIG Satellite Overseer POV: *Sees you are building defense outposts at every sector entrance "wow, thats so nice of them to help protect us" *Watches every civilian ship stop what they're doing, and leave sector in unison "huh, thats strange..." *Sees 100 destroyers enter sector "Oh... Oh no..."
I have a vision of FJ as a child with a train set. The image of him setting the train on fire and sending it off an unfinished bridge to see how far it will fly sticks in my head.
One tip that I think would help reduce the volume of friendly fire among your capital ships is to set all their weapons, except for anti-fighter weaponry such as flak turrets and bolt repeaters, to attack capital ships (which I believe would also include stations), while anti-fighter weapons could be left to attacking everything, since they could still see some use in attacking the turrets on capital ships and stations, once the fighter threat is gone. No sense shooting fighters with slow-moving plasma turrets, right?
literally all ships he lost was due to friendly fire. The poor ship that is in the middle of the blob just gets shot by plasma from all directions and annihilated.
I recommend setting all your L plasmas on all your ships to "Attack Capital Ships" this is tedious, but worth doing to avoid the useless plasma spam vs fighters. Attack capital ships also includes stations. One very useful fleet role is "mimic commander". A thought on what you could do with that: Have your top fleet commander use the patrol behavior, and have 5-10 or so attack subordinates. Then, have several other sub-fleets under the patrol commander with the mimic commander role, with the sub-fleet commanders having 5-10 or so attack subordinates. This will split your ships up better so they don't all get into a cluster like that.
Apart from a sheer mass extermination event of all the other races yeah I think you've done pretty much everything Francis, well played & it was a great series. X4 sure has some beautiful ships in it and those Nebula's and planetary bodies look simply amazing, but putting the aesthetics aside for a moment, when you go to all out war on such a large scale the game sure comes to a crawl eventually and soon becomes a slug fest for a battle of the frames per second. It's a shame some of us have to resort to out of sector wars playing X4. (Yeah I know a high end PC helps, but it will only help so much)
covering the map in warfs is the dream. the ai never expected the threat to come from their savior. keep it up as long as you are interested, fun stuff. you could even make prefabs for warfs/production facilities and carpet bomb the universe with millions of ships.
Terriforming is suppose to tke an absurd about of production and time. Just starting it and showing that you could finish if you wanted to waste more time would also work. Another last goal is to go to earth with a fleet but declare war before to flex.
In this episode "The FPS War" FJ is tired of all those CPU cycles being taken up by VIG having tons of fighters in his universe so does a little house cleaning, and universal performance is the better for it!
I usually limit myself in some way so I’m not too powerful. In this run (only ~20h old). I will only have 1 fleet per faction (ARG, TEL, SPL, PAR, BOR and TER). The can only use their factions ship and tech. A Fleet can only have 2 Carrier (1 for SPL), 80 S Fighter, 20M ship, 2 Aux, 8 Destroyer. They won’t join except for special missions, eg. A heart for pirates or to protect Terraforming projects in Xenon space.
You need to try a couple other things: 1) You need to try M6 fleets, they're a thing of beauty. (That is, Corvettes, like your Dragon Raider) 2) You need to experience the joy that is massed torpedo bombers.
I mean at this point, the only challenge left would be to declare war on everyone all at once. A fight with some bigger ships vs your swarm would be cool to see. I wonder if different factions would bring more firepower to bear.
BTW if your production is that off the charts do some Terraforming! Might not be rivetting content but sure does stress your factories production capabilities.
Taking down the Vigor was certainly a nice finisher. You should have stuck with the Bad Dragon name though, what could possibly be more humiliating than being annihilated by a D!ld0?
The Erlking, by G.P. Francis John IV Through the void of space, aglow with stars, The Admiral speeds his fleet afar, His daughter nestled in his strong embrace Their course is set, they'll reach the place. A pirate faction, well-known and feared, By mankind's hope and strength they're speared, "O Father! See! A ship of might, An unmarked capital in distant light." A shimmering vessel with such size, The mortal eye can scarce surmise, "O child, 'tis but a distant star, Wav'ring light that comes from far." The engines hum like distant dreams Their mission bold, the cosmos gleams, The ghost ship, shadow'd in the night Draws near the fleet with iron might. "What prey do you seek, mysterious and vast, Eclipsed in darkness, a story at last?" From human eyes we'll keep it hidden A cosmic marvel that lies therein "Come Admiral, ally to me, By my side best you will be, Navigating dark black seas A ruthless end their days will seize." O beautiful ship, so strong and fleet, My engines yearn to feel your heat. I'll steer my course by your own side, And all my foes with steel we'll smite
USER What is the erlking? ASSISTANT The Erlking (also known as the Erlkönig) is a mythical creature in German folklore, often depicted as a malevolent figure that preys on children. The term "Erlking" is derived from the German word "Erlenkönig," which translates to "Alder King" or "King of the Alder." The Erlking is popularized through a variety of folklore, poems, and musical works, most notably the poem "Erlkönig" by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and the subsequent song adaptation by Franz Schubert. In these works, the Erlking is portrayed as a supernatural being who lures children away with his enchanting voice, ultimately leading to their deaths. USER Write me a poem in the style of the aforementioned one by Johan Wolfgang von Goethe, but where the Erlking is an experimental capital battleship of an advanced interstellar civilization which is heading out to wipe out a pirate faction.
Yeah you went a little overkill in both, your economy and fleet size. The AI wont increase its fleet sizes during the game, so after certain fleet size, the AI can do nothing about it. The player needs to set handicaps for themselves if they want to keep some challenge in it from start to finish. Like no more than 6 L/XL (even that can be too many) ships in a fleet. Only using specific faction stuff etc. :)
Only thing left to do that I can think of is a Xenon xenocide montage. Wiped out the crime syndicate and the existential threat? King of the galaxy. What's next? Full time ONI would be nice, but I'd also suggest Project Zomboid if you're intending to continue split content. Against the Storm, which you considered previously, I'd hold off on until it finishes the current rework of the metagame.
Did you wipe out the xenon tho? I mean wipe all the red factions leaving all the friendly factions… that should be the end goal right? Is there even an “end” to the game?
"feeling cute, might invade a nearby sector idk." wonder if you can nab all their blueprints and just make the entire universe yours. would that break the game?
Would have loved to see how that invasion would have gone on OOS. Probably 10x faster because all the firepower of the destroyers is applied instant and those fighters would have popped like flies on a wind shield... 😃
But you want to see the fighters explode, it's far more fun to see the wall or flak going off. OOS combat is more efficient, but when you have that many ships you can't help but watch.

"I think the biggest victim here is... the frames" You know you've won the game when you can say THAT XD

Yeah he definitely could have done better on the fleet management side of things.
best summarized as "explosions were imminent" 🤣
A grand finale to the monumental series! Thanks for doing the X4 - much appreciated!
If you're unsure of what to do, there's always story missions or declaring war on everyone. At the same time.
And terraforming planets I believe.
Lol I literally thought of the meme from the southpark wow episode, "what do we do now.... We play the game"

How to use large fleets: out of sector.
Fun to watch, but in sector with that many destroyers you're more likely to kill your own ships! :D
Everyone, everywhere, all at once. it all must be wiped out, lol.
I think spreading the ships out in clusters of 10-20 with more use of the "tactical view" would have helped a lot with the rate of friendly murder lol
Truly a firework to remember... beautiful ^^
Terriforming is suppose to tke an absurd about of production and time. Just starting it and showing that you could finish if you wanted to waste more time would also work. Another last goal is to go to earth with a fleet but declare war before to flex.
Might be wise to use smaller fleets of bigger ships. Say, 4-5 Asgards supported by 8-10 destroyers.
Watching a large fleet of ships unleash its fury, is better than any Guy Fawkes Night or New Year's Eve celebration.
I think you need more! Maybe groups of 10 set to patrol that sector? and 10 to attack with you?
Great series. Hope you make another; quite a few changes now since you played here.
hey francis great video :) if you dont know what to do next, how about declaring war on all other factions at once an become the new xenon

You can eliminate friendly fire by siting out of system ur self and contral the battle on the map
Woooooow that was some firepower!
you blot out the sun with your firepower.. Ha, we'll fight in the shade.
It is getting to the point of absurdity FJ , which of course is why we watch.

Francis John murderer of games. No game is safe, they will be pushed to beyond their limits for the sake of entertainment.
Before declaring war with the Zyarth Patriarchy (if you do decide to do so), maybe check to see if you could purchase their Mk4 Split Engines 1st?
thanks for the save file bro ..wow!
I mean at this point, the only challenge left would be to declare war on everyone all at once. A fight with some bigger ships vs your swarm would be cool to see. I wonder if different factions would bring more firepower to bear.
Splitting the fleet into smaller chunks and sending them all over the place and have the fights off screen should help with FPS
BTW if your production is that off the charts do some Terraforming! Might not be rivetting content but sure does stress your factories production capabilities.
How many hours of gameplay to reach this point?
Taking down the Vigor was certainly a nice finisher.
You should have stuck with the Bad Dragon name though, what could possibly be more humiliating than being annihilated by a D!ld0?
Hope that Francis doesn't mind me suggesting one more name for the Erlking, and that'd be "The Earl of Kings".
Is this story over? I was waiting for it to build before continuing, so would be sad if it ends so early.
"The biggest victim so far is, the frames?" 🤣
probably better to split all of that in to 3/4 groups you can move around independently
Man, that Earlking is the most OP thing in the game.
Go full napoleon and declare war on everyone at once
10:27 Mega magenta murder machine! 😂 😂
Nice job Rusty!
Go Team Venture
You went full Space Germany.
SETA causes lots of glitches in sector. especially with that many ships. I guarantee thats what broke the combat

Woooo! More FJ!
wow that frame rate, i love that the game allows this even though you must then watch a slide show
Release the horde!

New goal... Become a trillionaire.
what happened to the Yaki???

I have a friend running a pacifist, supply the universe to take out the xenon run, i'd love to see your take on that now that 7.0 is around the corner
Apparently there IS such a thing as too much firepower.
MOR DAKKA!
When a 5800x3d or 78000x3d might not be enough (what cpu do you have) i assume you was at god tier now as no more episodes
maybe try and take over the whole map like germany tried during ww2 basically fighting on multiple fronts
But I need more!
YEE
It's funny when you listen to all those warnings like you shouldn't of done that in the context that it's your PC talking to you not the game npcs.
I hate re-rolling for number boosts. Can someone mod this so I can just pay 100x for the best roll? Devs?
Unstoppable? Declare on all the factions then...
