A few things I hope they would create aswell 1. Have a pop-up menu when you are building a station. So that when you hover over an factory (ie hull parts) that you get the pop-up and you can see what you need in production. Maybe even if population can increase production 2. Have a extra slider with the buying/selling part. On that only applies to AI and one to player faction. So for example. The first slider is for the AI second for faction. In action, you set the normal slider to 100. The station will then always keep 100 in stock unless factory itself uses it. So all above can be sold off. We will place the second slider (faction slider) to 200. Now the factory will keep 100 and all can be bougt by faction. The AI can only buy parts if the factory has more than 300 units. 3. Have station icons for different factories. So we get set a hull icon of a waffler icon for that factory. The same should be applied to the ai station. Not only will it colour the map, but you can than see in one glance where to go when you need certain stuff. You can setup the trading window ofc to only show hull parts. But if you glance over a sector, this will increase speed. Plus I do not always want to limit my self to set the search for 1 or 2 units. Also I love blueprints. The make the whole process quicker. Plus the big plus is that you can already setup some stations when you do custom maps. Love it (in all games though) :) Cannot wait for 5 to go live and the new dlc. Not sure if i am going to buy the dlc. Depends on the price, since I am no rich man. However I am interested in a copy. Nice to know. I noticed your factory did not have any workers. No habitation mods. How is it so profitable without any workers? Given that what good are the habitation modules then?
18:00 That line does not appear in the current config file, but you can simply type it in yourself, save the file, restart the game, and it seems to work.
Great guide, but if you ever cover this topic again you might want to mention that you have an opportunity to rotate the facing of the plot and set its height in relation to the plane of the map around the 6:30 mark. I don’t believe it is possible to do this after this point once building has begun.

Related to map rotations, in the normal sector map view (and possibly other views, haven't tested), if you have fiddled with the rotation, you can hit R to reset all the rotations properly back to zero, and also center the map view on the player. I often find when I am doing things like giving trade orders on the map view, the right-click on a station will accidentally rotate the map a little and really trigger my OCD, and now that I have discovered R I can fix my OCD quickly enough.
Nice video! Maybe you want to put in a reference to your video about blueprint hacking. I find the module licence prices to be very steep at the beginning of the game.
Maybe I missed it, but for some reason I don't remember you mentioning that players can rotate the building plots on the "Manage plots" screen, too. At least before building of a station began. Other than that, that's the kind of video I could've needed back when I got into X4. ;) Nice one!
You don't really need that, because you see the surrounding area now in the build window. You can adjust the station that way. But yeah, it's possible.
What if I wanted to raise my station way above the elliptic plane? What very specific commands do I use to elevate the station above the elliptic? This would be very useful for station building in the VOID.
Great guide, but what about removing existing already build modules? if I build 2 solid contains, and say these are full, can I remove one, and if so, what happens to the contents.
Hi, do you have a tutorial about station building but in terran sectors? Asking because you said that most of these production modules wont work on terrans.
The principles are the same, but you have to do it with different parts. Simply start with Microlattice for example or even better with just Energy Cells from Mercury.
Hi captain Collins thank you for your video it helped me a lot. I have a question though. Is there a way to download pre made stations created by other players? Then put them into my game?
* You can see where everything around the station is located. That can be very handy when placing large docks, so you know where ships are coming from. Sometimes, though, it can be awful because a planet or nebula makes it hard to see. There's an option (under the gear icon?) to switch to a neutral background if the real background is too bothersome. * Control-Z will undo the last thing you did. * Remember you can walk around on those S/M docks. Give'm a good view! * If you don't want to mess with all this, you can always just drop the modules you want anywhere then tell the game to connect them together. P.S. I haven't played since version 4.Something so I could be off here.
I have a question regarding the beginner station layout you discussed here. Do you need to supply the silicon yourself? Or will it make profit by buying silicone itself too? Is it even better to mine it yourself, if silicone is far away, or may it be better to trade for the silicone? Also, do you have to distribute the wafers with a trader yourself?
Thank you for the guides. Does anyone know how to contribute bought trade wares to to a build to help speed it along? I have a transport filled with hull parts but have no idea how to contribute to my own project.
answered my own question. You have to assign a pilot to the transport and have it transfer wares. I just move out the pilot seat and had a crewman do it.
Question: Would it be possible to build a small station, basically a defense platform that would also resupply my S/M craft with Torpedos as I am a good bit away from 22M to spare for the baseline Argon Auxillary ship and just having refitting done locally. And if you could just a lil guidance as to what that would look like, not a full blown Wharf, just a place to perform a pitstop for want of a better word.
basically done everything the same way you did and the builder i assigned has just done a runner. it also says their is no pier module on this station. is there any discord groups you know for people who need advice on things with x4? i'm relatively new and really trying to progress but the game is pretty complicated at times xD
You have two major options: Egosoft's own discord and mine :) This is egosoft: discord.gg/vknbhSD7 , this is Space Operations Delta: discord.gg/b2AMmgQ
Very helpful, thanks! Question: I have read from multiple long-time players who recommend just pushing your miners to sell raw resources to the NPC factions instead of selling products that you build yourself on your stations. Something about the way AI makes use of raw mats versus finished components, I believe. Can you comment on that? Have you noticed that AI factions do better (or worse) in economic terms (which leads directly to performance against xenons) if you just sell them mined resources directly versus building stuff fro mthem and then selling it? Thanks.
Could the AI get a boost to efficiency in terms of raw resource use? Maybe. Probably even, as that is a common thing in games, give the AI a crutch. Does this mean you shouldn't make your own stations? No. You will likely get sector miners and auto traders up to earn money in the early game as is. When you move into making your own stations, just don't stop also putting down auto traders and sector miners.
Please continue with this series it's so important since there isn't much information out there. Also Logistics of managing stations and miners would be such a great resource!

17:59 suddenly talks to me as if I'm a windows-user...any such config file in Linux?
If you own a sector, do factions need to pay you? And if so, but they don’t, can you attack the station freely or somehow engage with them over it?
Where can we find bases already built? I looked in the wookshop but having problems finding it.
I have my silicon wafer station in morning star IV it has 6 production modules so i have a little problem no one needs the silicon wafers anymore. LOL
If you put a silicon wafers factory in Second Contact 2, how to get the miners to go to Second Contact VII to mine silicon and bring back?
Do you still need a license for the first base you start when you do the mission?
Captain Tutorial Collins ! :D
I know it’s an old video, but how did you change the layout of sectors?
Do you still have lots of factory plans on discord?
Do you have to have all dlc to have all those sectors open
Also, do you have to distribute the wafers with a trader yourself?
hmmm i did not have the station editor free cam option. I added it in anyways.
0:34 I love getting minors to work for my empire
i dont have freecam option in my config odd my one is fairly new installation so wonder if its part of the older config
simply add this line to your config:
true
That should do. :)
I too had to add the line to my config.
@@dondumitru7093 yea silly they removed it i found building with it now so much better and easier
basically done everything the same way you did and the builder i assigned has just done a runner. it also says their is no pier module on this station. is there any discord groups you know for people who need advice on things with x4? i'm relatively new and really trying to progress but the game is pretty complicated at times xD
You have two major options: Egosoft's own discord and mine :) This is egosoft: discord.gg/vknbhSD7 , this is Space Operations Delta: discord.gg/b2AMmgQ
@@CaptainCollins the problem i had was i didn't add any funding to the station xD thanks for the discord links =]
Mega stations or separate…?
Captain Collins, you are.... the bees knees
