      not the same at all in X4... the "travel drive" (available on all engines) or SETA (can't use both together unfortunately) combined with "highways" make travel much more tolerable... plus because you can actually see all objects / stations as you travel through sectors makes it at least visually interesting when travelling... unlike Elite 😉

    Dropping satellites everywhere will cause a massive performance penalty in the game since it calculates the ships' positions within each visible area. This is also a problem in previous X-games. To overcome this issue, the devs introduced buying a trade license from the faction representative, which gives you access to the real-time prices, supply, and demands for each factory of this faction. For this license, you must have a certain standing with the faction.

    • @Killzad
      @Killzad Год назад +22

      have literraly thousands of sattelites and there is no preformance penalty from what i can tell, the only time preformance gets hit is by useing the SETA for too long but in this playthrue my first btw is 300+ hours in.

    There is a teleport technology researchable in the headquarters, which allows you to teleport the player character to another ship you own. You can spread out cheap ships everywhere and just teleport to somewhere else when you need to be there in person. But most of the stuff can be done remotely.
    Here is a nice mid/late game goal: Get an own shipyard/wharf, some blueprints of factions that don't like each other and allow them to buy ships at your station. They will instantly kill each other after takeoff, leaving scraps behind that can be automatically collected. Building ships for sale is insanely profitable. AI factions will buy at any price as soon as possible, resource resupply is the only limit.
    One important thing to keep in mind for longer games: The Xenon will get stronger with time. If the player does nothing to keep them at bay, AI factions will lose the fight, meaning that eventually every sector will get steamrolled by xenon. The game can at some point turn into a large scale strategy game if one does not put a plug into the xenon jumpgates in a timely manner.

    If I remember correctly, the Argon are the humans that were separated from Sol by the gate shutdown. The big difference between them is pretty much their production chains are completely different and where they start.

    • @LuaanTi
      @LuaanTi Год назад +8

      The Argon come from well before the timeline of the very first X game, they're the descendants of the original Terran fleet that tricked the terraformers into the X universe and then have Earth cut them off by destroying the human gate (stranding that fleet led by, wait for it, Nathan R. Gunne. Get it? :P ). In the first X game, you play a Terran pilot who used an experimental jump drive and accidentally accessed the X universe some eight centuries later. At the end of X3, the Terrans reconnect to the X universe by making another gate of their own... and things go downhill quickly.
      So yeah, both Argon and Terran are humans. Just separated for a long time, and with Terrans being decidedly more advanced and powerful than any other faction in the X universe, save the Ancients and _maybe_ the Xenon. So Terrans integrating with the X universe was definitely a big deal, despite them being just another human faction like the Argon - they're very much the big guys.

      @@LuaanTi i like "humans" are the most advance civilization in a universe with aliens lol

    • @LuaanTi
      @LuaanTi Год назад +5

      @@v44n7 Not the whole universe, just a tiny section of it. And as rare as it tends to be in modern sci-fi, that's mostly a result of the common scenario where humans are visited by aliens (ideally in relatively modern times or even earlier; at most while taking our first tentative steps into the unknown) - of course the aliens have to be more advanced to travel interstellar if we can't.
      X universe is different. The gate network was built and managed by the Ancients. The other alien races use the system, but can't do interstellar travel on their own. In fact, just like the Argon, the others in the system were cut off from _their_ homeworlds - we don't see their whole civilizations, just a remnant that tries to recover (and ideally, reconnect). In contrast, the Terrans _built their own gate_ - and were very surprised when they found out it connected to other, until then unknown, gates.
      As the Argon, they were essentially brought down to the technology available around them; technology doesn't exist in a vacuum, and the stranded fleet was quite small to boot. So most of their technology plays nice with the rest of the gate network. But when the Terrans finally manage to reconnect, the entire power balance is ridiculously lopsided. The other factions number in the millions; they are still building up proper infrastructure. The Terrans have many billions, with fully industrialized worlds (in the Solar system). Even if they weren't the most advanced (and they are, at least compared to the cut off remnants in the gate network), their economy dwarfs everyone else combined, and is heavily defended and concentrated to boot.
      But again, that's just the neighbourhood that was brought together by the Ancients' gate system. A portal network connecting a few dozen systems (many of which are inhabited by the Xenon, who have Terran tech - and boosted up, at that). There's also the Kha'ak, who are still kind of mysterious and seem to be somewhat more advanced than even the Terrans. But outside of that gate system? There's still hundreds of billions of stars just in one galaxy. We're still just talking about being around the top of a tiny pond :P

    To build a station you need claytronics, hull parts and energy cells. So I think it's a good idea to create a self-sufficient factory for these materials and go from there.
    Also for the future reference - mining is the slowest and the most painful start. In general it's not a good idea to provide your future competitors with resources.
    Doing piracy (boarding L-ships with captured M-ships) is the best start IMHO. It provides more money but also cripples production which creates deficit on a market for future exploitation.

    For a personal fighter ship to pilot, perhaps a Terran Katana would be something to consider? Sure, it's a medium-sized corvette, but it's so fast that it acts more like a tactical bomber, with its medium-sized fixed mount weapon hardpoints, plus its 2 small-sized turret hardpoints (like with many World-War-2-era bombers). Moreover, unlike the Split Dragon, another super-fast corvette, the Katana also comes with pretty good hull and shields for surviving blows, while the Split Dragons are quite frail, but also have even more firepower on them.

    Loved your ONI Series - Just found you do X4 - although I have a lot of time in X4 (1,747 hours) it's just wonderful hearing you talk over what is happening - you do it so well. I started the X series with X-BTF back in 1999 and then on through X2, X3 and X4. As a flight instructor on Helicopters and planes, I love this sort of thing and the sights when flying through these sectors are just amazing.
    There is another good start which I always find gives many drops and that is the gate between Second Contact II Flashpoint and True Sight.. Everytime you start a new game, the HOP are bashing the Argons and Antigone People and I start with the Basic ship and 2,000 credits and after a trip there have about 5m and have to go back for more. As you say, the best are those Programmable field arrays which sell for around 140k each. Once that battle has died, they tend to take a while to build up another fleet for another go (The AI actually mines and works for their next fleet to go again). At this point, I tend to go back to the anomaly (BHS IV) and do some anomaly jumping - just going in and out of the anomalies (wormholes) which opens up lots of new sectors (and I tend to put a NAV beacon at every point I land so I know where they are - if I find Trinity Sanctum VII, then I stop and get myself a Nodan with Combat Engines and another which I use for mapping. I then go to Hatikvah and do similar as by that time the Xenon will have built up a bit of a presence.
    Oh, if you fly with a joystick, the Saitek X52 pro is probably one of the best to use (I have gone through dozen's of others before finding a good joystick).
    Thanks for the stream - it's bringing memories flooding back from when I last played some 6 months ago - oh and Sierra and I are avidly watching your ONI too.

    The initial fight right the start of the game is on the other side of the jump gate, that's why nothing is there right at the beginning. A better option is the Paranid and Argon fights happening at Second Flashpoint and the couple systems down the highway from it. You can freely collect that material without risk of being shot at the same time.
    You can also just use the custom start option (Budgetted custom start won't count as modifying the game) and start with your initial ships/money you want.

It was definitely a very cool game, but at the same time it was incredibly overwhelming and I never really figured out how to play it.
    I'm 31 now, and a friend of mine told me about X4: Foundations. He described it as being kind of like StarSector with a mix of EVE and Elite: Dangerous and I was immediately on board. I figured I'd check it out since I hadn't touched one of these games in well over a decade. Never even considered mining, just jumped into all the easy and very easy missions whilst laying out my satellite network (2-3 full systems a night).
    I set my goal at 1 mil for the first day and hit 5 mil my second day. Pretty much every station I am scanning has criminal activity around it to pew-pew, and that gives a decent amount of basic loot rather than actively going out and hunting loot. Of course if there is a battle happening right near where I am scanning, why not...

    The vast majority of the game requires zero personal cross country travel. Just get a few ships that you might want to travel in. I use a standard fighter build. Then obviously have a pilot in each, and the teleport technology completed to at least the 2nd level. All of this is relatively easy to accomplish in the first 2 hours of game play. You should also have a SATA device or the part to build it by now. You only ever need one. Now when you need to be across the universe, hop into a ship that is not moving, give another ship order to travel to wherever you need to go. Then turn on your SATA, to have time go at 6x normal speed. Your pilot will fly your other ship over to the location and then you will get a message "awaiting order". Now turn off SATA and teleport to that ship, EZ. Most of the time I dont even use the SATA I just send ships around as needed and work on other things until they arrive, then whenever I am between things I jump over to them, do whatever needed doing over there, then jump / teleport, back to somewhere else. If you are personally flying your own ships around for the majority of the game, you are doing it wrong.
