  • As we continue to go down the rabbit hole that is the Halloween franchise this Halloween season, we take a look at The Return of Michael Myers. Or as some fans of the series call this film, the first in either the Jamie Lloyd trilogy, or The Cult of Thorn trilogy. Either way you we have the return to franchise standard of Michael Myers as he was absent from Halloween III: Season of the Witch. So, we have Michael being transported on Halloween to Smith Grove Sanitarium, dumb but ok, and he learns he has a niece still alive! Well cue comatose Michael resurrection, and we are off to the races has heads back to Haddonfield to wreak havoc again on Halloween night! What do we think about this 4th installment in the Halloween franchise? Just have to watch and see how we rank it!

I mean Michael drove the nurse's car around for all of Halloween 1978

@emerickscott true. But that was a station wagon with an automatic transmission. The truck here drives here is most certainly a stick shift! Lol!

4&5 are my favorites out of any Halloween ever made. I’m a sucker for shlock

@@sethrobinson28 they are definitely kind of schlocky. There could have been a good story there as well, but the timelines just make the series confusing.

@@slashsisters time lines never bothered me until the most recent entries (Danny McBride ) I love Jaime and hate Rachel lol

@sethrobinson28 it wasn't so much Danny McBride as it was David Gordon Green. He ruined the new films. It's the whole reason he got fired from The Exorcist sequels because he doesn't know what the fans want.

@@slashsisters ah. I thought McBride had a pretty heavy hand in the story. The first one one was good(2018) but just that. Nothing mind blowing, I hate reboots. Just sequel me to death

I have a Cult of Thorn tattoo, I love this trilogy :)

@colbreen1583 that's cool! We just wish it was handled better. The story could have been cool had they not mishandled the characters involved, not making the story up as they went, specifically with 5.

6 minutes too long of a wait, I bet! I'm keen to see what y'all think of this one. It's 5th on my franchise ranking (probably a 3.5 star movie) though there are only three stinkers in this franchise for me.

@adrianphillips2136 we tend to agree that as well, but there are some good stories in this franchise. This is just not one of them.

This movie is a Halloween 1978 cover band. The Force Awakens of the Halloween franchise in template (for better or worse). I really like the opening, 4&6 have great autumnal shots! I like Rachel and Jamies development (trying to isolate it to this one)
The shotgun death was cool in the, "sike, you thought I was gonna shoot her" kinda way...
I prefer Halloween 4 to Halloween 5 but I may prefer to chuck on 5 for how bonkers Loomis is, and how ridiculous the "plot" gets.
Not sure how to feel about the tacked on ending that came from nowhere, but then again, so did the opening in the original.
Stay Hallowinning! Good luck carving down the rest of the franchise!
