I bought the DDX-8901HD primarily for this purpose. It is an awesome head unit, and I have followed the instructions here as well as in the written manual, and it does not work with my LG G3. Needless to say, I am not amused that I spent $650 on this HU and it does not work. It makes me wish I had just left my KDC-BT955HD in that vehicle and not spent the money.
As of right now, from what I know, the phone has to have a certain bluetooth protocol. The phones that work right now 11/4/14 are the Galaxy's, HTC, and I thought the LG, but I guess not. I use an HTC M8 on mine and it works great! The Motorola phones and Nexus phones do not work I know that for a fact.
I'm having the same issue with my S5 on 4.4.2. Neither Crutchfield nor Samsung are giving me a resolution to this and I'm a little upset I've spent $600+ on my DDX5901HD and accessories. I bought a new 5-11 adapter today thinking that was the issue...but no dice. Any advice?
Go through the setup menu. Put it in standby mode, select setup, then system. You should see "app setup" if not it's in there it's in input instead of setup. You have to make sure the radio knows you're hooking an android phone to it. The default is iPhone/iPod. Make sure you pair your phone first also!
I should have updated this comment a long time ago. LG doesn't use MHL, they use Slimport. Get a Slimport adapter and plug it in through hdmi and it works.
I know this video is pretty old now. I have a DNX891HD and I am trying to do the same connection with my Samsung A71 5G Phone. I was able to get all the way through the same steps (Had to Download the Kenwood Smartphone App from a 3rd party website). However, when I connect the HDMI/MHL cable to my phone. It looks like its going to work, but I always get a blank White screen on my phone and a blank black screen on the head unit. The only thing I do notice is that the Kenwood app says Accessibility is OFF for the Kenwood Smartphone app. However, I can't change anything to turn it on. Please help.

What connection are you trying to setup? Are you looking for an Android Auto connection? You can use Android Auto with a standard Type-C to USB cable. Thanks!
@@lsdleighssilverdesigns8809 The DMX-706S does not support android mirroring, but you can use a Samsung MLH adaptor to analog video out adaptor and run that into the receiver using a KENWOOD CA-C3AV video input adaptor to work as a "video in" option to use when the parking brake is applied. Thanks!

The DDX371 will not do this feature... It just has USB. The Nexus 5 does not have audio/video out of the USB so it will not work. The Kenwood units require some bluetooth and USB protocol (I forgot what it is right now) to make them work. The HTC and Samsung phones have it.. that's it. The new Nexus 6 has audio/video out of the USB so it might work!

The DDX374BT does not support this app or touchscreen control of a smartphone from the receiver. If you are just looking to display the image from your smartphone on the DDX374BT, you can use the KENWOOD CA-C3AV audio/video input cable, along with a compatible output cable/product that allows your phone to output an audio/video signal, such as the Accele SPA300 or similar.
