I think it would be much easier to list the things it doesn't need vs. what it does need. I drove a '61 for several years. Tough as nails truck! I would be willing to bet anyone that these modern computerized and plastic trucks of today would NEVER survive as long as this old gal has and still be able to start, much less move on their own.
Yes but a modern truck is meant to be sacrificed in the event of an accident rather than the occupants so tough as nails is a mixed blessing .I have an old truck (55 f100) and I never drive it very far or very fast . I had a 64 and the rag joint failed even though it looked good it was a scary ride( it held together long enough for me to stop ) My 55 has a scary steering system too.
There is one thing some folks will be able to look forward to someday if their state allows it - reverse transplanting old school parts into what are now modern trucks making them into non-computerized, carb based trucks. I foresee a whole slew of aftermarket suppliers manufacturing parts to get those tasks accomplished. If worse comes to worst, you could always install an entire old school drivetrain into the currently new bodies as they age out into "antique" vehicles though I suspect the more modern blocks will work well enough. The downside may be the transmissions... too many automatics and not enough pure manuals although there may be workarounds for that potential problem. Time will tell, I just hope I live long enough to see all the possibilities come to pass. Peace & good vibes to all! - Max Giganteum
This truck certainly deserves a full restoration including brakes and a very good carb. The inner tube trick was very shrewd and worked! Thanks to all who got this vehicle out of the hole, running after years of dormancy, and all cleaned up. In fact there may be some people who press metal floor pans for vehicles as a business. My Dad's company truck was showing the pavement by his feet so he had a guy down the street weld a pan to get him by. Not factory but very good.
Why have I fallen in love with this blue oval ?? Bow tie gods forgive me😂😂❤🙃... oh yeah, he won’t run you over... we will be saying more than “what the rust”... etc etc
If you had of used a spray bottle full of bleach, you would have saved yourself a lot of time and work. Bleach makes short work of that stuff. Good job though.
I take that back it's going to need some wet dry sandpaper and some comet and some bleach. And afterwards sand the body down with some electric sander and then primer the body

Yeah something I wished I’d never learned lol 😂, might have to do it several times but I understand that y’all didn’t have all that time to let it do its thing! What a great tow rig this truck would make. You both did great work on the truck. It looks way better. Could really make a good ride out of it with a few bucks and some time. Awesome job taking a truck from a grave yard to something workable.
My first vehicle was a ‘66 Ford F-250; 352 V8 and a 4-speed floor shift. $500. That motor was strong. This was 1973. You guys have a wonderful program and I hope young people watch how you methodically go through a vehicle and get it running!
That bed is TOAST man, check out my clips of my 76 Jeep J10 pickup.. I am rebuilding my entire bed floor, and finished the cabin floors... But yea the entire bed floor im rebuilding. If you guys cant find a bed to swap.. I hope youre good at welding and measuring haha.. Another issue is your cowl is rusted out.. That extremely hard to fix
Another excellent job,the both of you made that truck into a every day driver, and it sounds good, even with the bad carb, you made it work,I live in Houston Co Tn,don't know how you you guys work on that truck with the humidity being so high,I did some work on a car saturday,I was soak with sweat after about an hour, you guys look nice and dry. again excellent job
Love those old Ford pickups, sad that here in Australia they have all just about gone to the crashers, very rare to see one , love your work on getting her running again, cheers mate 👍🇭🇲
What you've got all over your amazing that it's alive truck are called Lichens (pronounced "LIKENS") for any viewers that have not had the pleasure of getting these very tough plants stuck on to a vehicle, or anything else that grows on it for 20+ years! I HAVE had the pleasure, and these (I forgot what the basic type of Lichen group they belong to is called) I just call pains in buttox. You folks are brave, and I applaud you! Thumbs UP!
For the best cleaner, mix up a 50-50 mix of White vinegar and Dawn dishwashing detergent... Amazing cleaner.. then use your pressure washer... let us know how it works....
G'evening Richard ☕☕ 🤠 . Anytime you can pull a rig outta exile in the back 40 & get her running, cleaned up & elevated to streetable status makes for a great payoff, Congrats & livations all round 🍺🍺🍺 🙃 ..
Richard, you brought that lovely truck back to life. I enjoyed ever minute of your videos. Saved this Ford from a early death. Christina when is Richard going to get you one of those shops truck jacket so you wont get all dirty from working so hard. All you need is it the name of your channel WHAT THE RUST embroiled on the back of the jacket. Richard you need the same. Your views will go up. If I did not purchase a 1963 VW and fixed it up and had someone painted it that was not good I would have found a truck like that since there so much enjoyment to work on. Not complicated as todays cars. I see when things go wrong you always have a positive attitude. Thankful you care for your work even thou its difficult at times you push through and never give up from a car that could be going to a crusher. You are blessed to have Christina with you and enjoying the work as much as you are. God Bless the two of you. I only wish I could go one day with you but at 63 and not driving it would be hard. I am not that far away from you a state away.
hey richard i forgot to tell you that in those 2100 ford 2 bbl carbs that you can run a 6.5 holley power valve in them. did this years ago in a 1969 ford f-350 with the 360 fe and ran better than ever.
On paint like that, it really doesn't matter how you do it. next time, spray it with bleach and water and let it dry. then do it again and let it dry. do it a 3rd. time and then, while wet, start pressure washing. the green will start disappearing and the black will come off easier. The powered up paint will also come off but if you use the buffer when done pressure washing and a good cleaner wax you may even get some shine outa what's left. Great video as always.
wonderful to see you guys working so well together not scared to get a bit dirty you guys breathe life back into these old cars cheers from Melbourne Australia
Mix bleach and water in a garden sprayer to get the rest of the black staining off. Just spray it on, let it sit for a few minutes, scrub it, then rinse it off. Works like a charm.

As a '66 F100 owner it does my heart good to see this one come alive again, good work guys.
Thanks very much Joseph. This truck is onto greater things.
Great folks you guys are on the wall,an I have a 66 F 100 and I love to see this thing come back to life
The lines of this truck are beautiful. Would have been a shame for it to rot away. Nice save.👍🇺🇸

A can of comet or Ajax would help clean it. Never mind the paint. It will act like compound.
Simple green diluted as pre soak. Will lill that dirt ptonto
that is why I will not own a electric power washer. no power.

Buy an iron remover should help with some of the rust!
A big srub brush, or stiff broom would have helped
They just don't make them like that anymore heavy duty
Wonderful. Nothing like an old Ford pickup.

Great job ! I hope this Truck finds a good home. As always I liked and shared. All my very best.
We appreciate the support! The truck sold the next day, so it is on to a new home.
I would have sprayed it down with bleach and let soak in. Then wash it.
So true! Honestly, I knew that but events of the day prevented bringing bleach. However, we used bleach on the next car!
That truck fought the whole way! You guys are super nice peeps👍 thanks for hanging in there!
It did fight me every step, probably more than any vehicle I recall. The 51 Ford tow truck would be next on that list.
