It’s truly impressive how one’s persons video upload will have me drop everything I’m doing to watch it. It’s simple, Nick uploads, and everything else comes after that
such a genius marketing campaign from the tourism board. how could I not want to go to Spain after seeing it through Nick Carver's lens! can't wait for the rest of this series.
3:32 Rookie mistake Nick! Rookie mistake! ALWAYS pack at least ONE alibi roll at ISO 3200 with the rest of your film. It can be a dummy roll, it doesn't matter! But it allows you to argue for a hand check, since if they have to check that one alibi roll, they may as well hand check all of them! You're welcome!
I wish I could remember when I started watching your channel. It was several years ago. You have grown so much as a photographer, but it is the hangin' out with Nick vibe I loved then and still do.
Man, I was waiting for this one. My Hometown is Málaga. I lived a couple of blocks away from the Correos’ building… By the way, I love the picture. This video series is going to be amazing. Thanks, Nick, you’ve been my inspiration for years. Seeing you in my beloved Andalucía is incredible.
Pausing watching the video just to say that your first image of the post office building was superb! That horizontal look is in the Nick Carver style. Now, onward.
I drink coffee at Santa Coffee nearly every day. The one day I'm not there and Nick Carver drops by! Great video, can't wait to see more of the photos of my adopted homeland!
Aside from your photography, which I've loved for years by the way, and has motovated and inspired my own analogue journey, the quality of your videos and storytelling just gets better and better. I cant wait for the rest of the videos in this series, and hopefully more on-location videos in the future (i appreciate these are difficult to do whilst juggling a busy working and home life, but i love them and Im greedy 😂). Top quality stuff Nick... hugs and high fives from Wales UK
As someone who's been watching your channel for quite some time now, and seeing you being bedazzled by Spain's beauty, my neighbour country that we once used to share half of the world to discover around, makes me smile from year to year, how genuine you felt about it. You could really live here indeed. Can't wait to see the rest of the videos.
Enjoyed this a lot, Nick. I’m glad you really worked that postcard scene, waiting for just the right light. I learned a lot just from that! Also, kudos to your videographer! I loved that fast swing from the castle back to you. I’m still happily dizzy 🤪
Finally!!! I've been really looking forward to the Spain videos. It's surprising how different you americans see our landscapes, make me feel like I should be more conscious and appreciative about my country. PD: if you ever find yourself in the north of Spain (Barcelona) I would be more than happy to try to help Cheers!! :D
That postal building shot was *chef's kiss*! A brutalist architecture photo book that may appeal Nick - if you've not seen already - 'Frédéric Chaubin. CCCP. Cosmic Communist Constructions Photographed'.
I saw this in my feed, went and made a nice dinner, sat down, and proceeded to be in heaven for the next 25 mins. And Tom Heaton and Nick Carver in one video. We’re so lucky. Great vid. Cheers as always, Nick!
Loving these videos . I sailed in to Málaga working on the cruise ships in 1986 , bought my Sunpak flash in the court ingles . Went back last year for a long weekend, stunning city.
followed you for a few years now, Nick, great to see your development with the exhibition and now being asked to travel overseas - I've learned loads watching you on both the technical and artistic side of things. Wishing you continued success, David.
Not sure if you noticed but in min 21:50secs, the mountain in the back looks like an old man sleeping. take a look at the right side of the frame… in the video… the highest peak is the nose.
This is so awesome. I got to the end and couldn’t believe 25 minutes had already passed. Keep it coming! That graffiti photo was amazing. I was a little skeptical in the wider video shots, but the result is fantastic.
Absolutely awesome man!! I love that you photographed that old post office building in the beginning! Gotta take them on their word about full creative freedom!
I studied abroad in Spain, spending most my time in Granada but also visited Málaga a few times. The memories came back to me of some of the best times in my life. Thanks for sharing!
Quick FYI about airport X-rays. Don’t leave film in your checked-in luggage - that will damage your film. And most security X-rays worldwide are okay… except for Southeast Asia. Plead, bribe, or do whatever you can to never have your film go through. (I’ve learned all of this the hard way.)
Love it Nick. Just discovered your channel and I’m really enjoying it. My wife’s mother lives just along the coast from Malaga and whenever we visit we go into the city and I always end up photographing that post office building.
Cant wait to see the other parts of this Trip! Really does make me want to travel to Spain and take new images and print them out. Very happy to see you go through the whole creative process from scouting, setting up, composing the shot and taking the picture! Great video for a lazy sunday evening. Much love. ❤
Awesome man I feel like if that was me waiting for the light to hit it would never come 🤣. Glad it worked out perfectly & very cool shots of both scenes.
I'm so happy that you are, or have had, the opportunity to start getting more of a feel for Europe, starting in a truly lovely place... I started shooting in Europe, seriously, about 25 years ago, when the air travel part was a bit less hassle, a LOT less hassle than today... One trip, we hit 17 cities in 20 days, 1600 exposures, mixed 6x7 and 35 mm... You can almost never take too much film along 🌞
I saw some other photographer's video in this project and you have the best state of mind, disposition and way to approach the unexpected conditions for this kinf of job. With some others (not everyone) are just too painfully to see more than 20 minutes, argh, what a waste of time. I wait your next videos with a big smile because I enjoy so much your work, style and the way to see your sorrounding and life. Thanks for this trip Nick!
Just catching up on some of your recent videos... I was just in Malaga this past November and I was at that same car museum for a press event. Small world! Malaga City Center is sooo cool. Great video :-)
Really enjoyed this adventure. Looking forward to more. My favorite city image was the second. I like the wedge of shadow on the lower right buildings balanced by the wedge of shadow on the left more distance city. Seemed more dramatic.
Hello Nick. I've been following you since your first video on the channel. My head exploded! Let me explain. I was born and live in Andalusia (I am from Granada, where the Alhambra is), of course I do analog photography and I am so surprised to see you in the context of the cities close to mine, since for me, you are like the actor in an American movie deep, always in the desert and under all that American landscape that we Europeans have dreamed of being in, since it is like being in a movie. In your country it seems that every corner is photogenic, while here it costs a little more to achieve it. Although I have to admit that the land where I live is unique and I love the natural landscapes it has. Rather, I was referring to the contrast between the cities where you take photographs and those in Andalusia. It's so strange to see you taking photos in front of the "El Corte Ingles" shopping center in Malaga! haha, I think those of us who live around here will understand perfectly what I mean. In any case, I love what you do, you have a unique personality and style, a true reference, I hope we meet one day. Greetings friend, here is your faithful subscriber.
Thank you youtube algorithm for this gift! Lovely work, ive been falling more into my large format gear over the last year and this was an amazing push. Lovely work, new subscriber! Look forward to watching more of your videos ❤
Wow, loved this. Listening to it with my headphones I could hear all the sounds and feel the ambiance. It really brought me back, I miss it alot. I lived in southern Spain for close to two years. Spent a lot of time in Malaga and all up and down Andalucia. Even went shopping in that Corte Ingles shopping center behind you while you were taking the Correos photo. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I'm subscribed to about half the participants in this series and have seen a bunch of their videos so far. This has been great.
"No chance any of you are still reading this...but hey I gotta put something in here." Oh, I absolutely did read the description, my sombrero-wielding friend.
Damn, this marketing campaign worked so goood. I have never heard about this place and god it's beatiful. Wonderful photography Nick. Wasn't expecting a cityscape from your channel, but I can't complaint. Hahaha
I went to California for the first time a month ago Nick, and it’s funny how you talk about a morning run past a postcard. I felt the same about SoCal compared to where I live in New England. It’s all perspective and sometimes new coordinates open your eyes in a new way.
Nick, I've watched a number of your videos and greatly enjoy your complete technical expertise and knowledge of your equipment and style along with your very quirky and somewhat awkward persona (and I mean that in a complimentary way). I've seen now half-a-dozen Andalucia-project videos from photographers I routinely subscribe to (Heaton for example) as well as videos from other photographers that RUclips has figured I would be interested in. Every one of the Andalucia-project photographers, and their videos, are uniquely endearing, interesting, informative, and entertaining. Love them all! The tourism board was right to hire you as I'm sure you've come to terms with, especially when combined with the diversity of all the other photographers on the project--it's a wonderful mix! Congrats on being selected--you make us SoCal photographers proud!
I lived in Malaga for some years, and there is where i started in photography. Everywhere in the city you can feel that decadent beauty. The Correos building is a nice example. Hoping to see much more of that decadence in your photos of the trip, because that's what inspired me too in my time there. Bienvenido a España!
Oh boy this is gorgeous! I would had never thought of you coming to my beautiful Andalucía to photograph it. I really hope you had a blast here and felt welcomed. In Spain we are not very used to hand checks in airports for film, but what I do is carry with me a Ilford 3200 canister so the 1600 rule does not apply, they are usually keen on hand cheking the film after that. I hope you have the change to visit Cádiz in your next trip to Spain!
Hurrah! I was anxiously awaiting this video ever I saw you pop up in Heaton’s video. Did not disappoint at all man! And awesome choice of music. Loved that fuzzy bass dropping in on the flight montage.
13:00 you really look like Ansel Adams with the hat, the light meter, the camera haha. I’m a student of your metering courses, it was really helpful and simplified the complicated film metering process for me.
I stumbled on your RUclips page this week. And I'm loving it! The story telling the amazing pictures! I'm from Belgium and going in March to Arizona. I was not thinking or knowing I would be able to take good pictures off the surroundings but with seeing what you do I can't wait to go! You sparked something inside myself.
I was there a few weeks before you. And yes ISO 1600 no problem ….. After a bad experience with airport scanners in Tenerife. I took my digital camera to Malaga. Looking forward to the next video
It has been interesting watching the different photographers videos from the photographers on this trip. I am a retired architectural photographer and a fan of your work. I loved the Spanish post office image.
Hi Nick, welcome to Europe! I live in the southwest of France, near the Spanish border, I travel to Spain often and I know how good it is to take photos in Spain, of course not as good as in France! !! I'm joking... I'm as much European as I am French, and when you live in France near the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees mountains, you share the same roots with the Spanish! I'm waiting for part 2, because I recognized a few places in the trailer! best wishes for the year 2024 !
That is the video we were waiting for! Awesome work as usual and it will be lovely to see your style in a European setting! Can't wait for the next ones!
Fantastic as always. I loved hearing Jason @grainydays compare how vastly different y'all's approaches are. Loving that we get to see the trip through so many perspectives.
I have been waiting for your video of this job since I saw on the Heaton videos that you are a participant. I loved the opening shot and thought it was a Carver view of the building. The oversight panoramas were great but that first shot was representative of your style. I sm looking forward to the follow on videos.
Nick, you have my favorite channel on RUclips now! I love your candor and technique almost as much as I love your work! Keep safe and thanks for sharing!
It seems to have been an interesting trip. Going out with a crowd like that is not everyone's cup of tea. But apparently everyone was able to do his own thing. I also find brutalism very interesting. We have a lot of it here in Germany too. I wouldn't necessarily want to live in a building like that. Especially as the areas in which the buildings stand are often pretty bleak and run-down today. But they are certainly photogenic and interesting in comparison with photos from the time shortly after their opening. In the former Eastern Bloc and the former Yugoslavia there are also a lot of splendid examples. I also really like the roofscape. Reminds me that I once wanted to go to Graz in Austria to photograph the roofs...
Nick, you're at the right level of analog photographer...Leica and an orange beanie is taking it too far PS - You know what case screams "bargain camera gear"? The Harbor Freight Apache cases 🤣
I love this Nick, and it feels so well deserved after all the hard work put in all of those videos through the years. Not that this is the end goal but to get the recognition and creative freedom for an assignment at this level is definitely a dream job!
It’s truly impressive how one’s persons video upload will have me drop everything I’m doing to watch it. It’s simple, Nick uploads, and everything else comes after that
Love this.
I agree. I don't usually sit through most creators long videos but ill watch every second of Nick's.
Yep I’m at work too, this is going to be a long dump
@@PenGiousNick and Ben Horne :)
Hopefully the baby is not hurt 😆
such a genius marketing campaign from the tourism board. how could I not want to go to Spain after seeing it through Nick Carver's lens! can't wait for the rest of this series.
After seeing the 2 vids of Nick and all of Thomas Heaton we decided today go to Andalusia next year. 🎉
@@Martingj56 you will be very welcome

I’m on the edge of seat waiting for part 2. They couldn’t have made a better choice for their campaign. Congrats Nick!
Brutalist architecture and scouting for a sh*tty laundromat - the tourism board will be so thrilled! Excellent work.
I wish I could remember when I started watching your channel. It was several years ago. You have grown so much as a photographer, but it is the hangin' out with Nick vibe I loved then and still do.
That’s what I love to hear. Thank you!

I fell in love with your hometown, my friend. On the last day of the trip I got to see more of it and the beauty is unparalleled.
Finally! Man, it already feels like ages ago but it's only been about a month since Spain. 😳
It feels like ages ago. I’ve been trying not to get too sad that it’s over - haha
@Nick Carver invited for the quality of his work and his outstanding sense of humour. Always a pleasure.
Pausing watching the video just to say that your first image of the post office building was superb! That horizontal look is in the Nick Carver style. Now, onward.
Thank you, sir!
I traveled to Malaga a week later than you, didn't even realize about the Correos building. That's what makes your photography special, what a genious
I drink coffee at Santa Coffee nearly every day. The one day I'm not there and Nick Carver drops by! Great video, can't wait to see more of the photos of my adopted homeland!
After seeing Heaton's vids and seeing that you were part of this, so glad to be getting your experiences and viewpoints now.
Loved in Nick! (as always).. It always impresses me that you can pick one killer composition and stick with it. I often try many!

I also really like the roofscape. Reminds me that I once wanted to go to Graz in Austria to photograph the roofs...
Nick, you're at the right level of analog photographer...Leica and an orange beanie is taking it too far
PS - You know what case screams "bargain camera gear"? The Harbor Freight Apache cases 🤣
Phwoar, what a killer video, Nick!! Nice one!!! Love the shots. I really can't wait to watch more!
I love this Nick, and it feels so well deserved after all the hard work put in all of those videos through the years. Not that this is the end goal but to get the recognition and creative freedom for an assignment at this level is definitely a dream job!
You’re, for sure, the best photographer in this game!
Great video and photos Nick! They totally hired the right man for the job ;)
Can't wait to see the rest of the trip.
