I was at a family Christmas event the other day. Surrounded by sugar, in the form of sweets, trifle, salads with commercial dressings, the list goes on. I stuck to my guns and ate only the roast beef, despite a couple of ‘side eyes’ from family. They were also drinking alcohol. I got home feeling great and went to the gym instead of sitting around bloated and drunk. This lifestyle has allowed me to take charge of my addictions and the feeling of pride due to personal accountability is great. Life changing stuff. You continue to inspire my friend.

“It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.” But this is a tough part of the lifestyle.
I’ve found that not preaching about it whatsoever and simply saying “I don’t like to eat X” or “I’m not hungry for X” is way better than “X is bad for you”. Then - if people are interested - talking about carnivore / proper human diet in a non preachy way, and not shaming anyone whatsoever for eating junk food.

Hi Mitch, I'm a carb addict like what you were. I started being a carnivore about 4 years ago, but never stopped craving carbs. I turned from all carnivore channels to embrace the fruit and meat touted by Paul Saladino. It was heaven at first. I had bananas, watermelon, mangos, along with lots of meat. I did start gaining weight, before long I was fat and having joint issues again and when I tried to cut down on fruit I got the shakes just like I used to before carnivore when my sugar intake got low. I'm right back to eating just meat again. Your video here explains clearly what I'm going through, it's a carb addiction that must be broken by total elimination. Thank you for the inspiration. I'm back on the wagon with the knowledge now to see what needs to be done to slay this dragon in my life.

My story is very similar to yours, minus the brain surgery. My timeline was very similar…2017ish - keto, including watching my macros, experimenting with various low carb recipes…etc, and I enjoyed moderate success. But as you pointed out, I too was allowing myself whatever I wanted as my carb component, and I would inevitably cave and find myself falling off the wagon. About a year ago, my wife and I transitioned to what I would call ‘ketovore’, with the majority of our nutritional lifestyle being carnivore, with the odd carb here and there (the carbs would be in the form of almond flour in a pizza crust or heavy cream in coffee…generally not ice cream or pastries…etc). The more research I stumble across on this way of eating, the more changes I make (oxalates being a prime example …I’d never even heard the term, and I used to eat a lot of spinach, almonds…etc, in various keto recipes, not knowing of the potential oxalate damage). I’m 53 now, and can honestly say I’ve not felt this good since my late 20’s. I’ve never been in terrible shape, but I do attribute my positive health outcomes I currently enjoy to the abolishment of carbs.

I think the reason why eating real food seems so drastic to many, is because we have been programmed to eating garbage for so long, that people have forgotten what real food really is. I take no chances.
I’ll bring my own eggs when visiting this year. I refuse to eat carbage bread for breakfast. Hopefully I have enough. Perhaps I’ll buy a few more. I really don’t mind eating mostly the same for some time. It’ll be more fatty meat when I get back home.
I’ve already told mom not to prepare any candy for me. I don’t want all that extra work getting back into shape after a*b*u*s*i*n*g the body with junk for 2 weeks. And I don’t want those unneccesary cravings. Not worth it.
You didn’t even have cravings for the worst kind of carbs Mitch. Yet you struggled so hard. That just shows how addictive those carbs can be to some of us. I don’t think what we are used to see as aging today is natural. I call it premature aging. I hope we can change that, and being healthy like you can be the new normal 😉

I love carbs, I know how bad they are, but not to have ice cream, chocolate, bread you name it. You go off the carbs for awhile and then you got to have it. I know. I am eating myself to death. So about 3 weeks ago ai decided to go back to Atkins, knew it would work for awhile. Then I heard about the carnavore diet. Decided I would try it. Watched a couple of your video. So far I am Ok. I have gone up and down with being strict on carnivore, even beef only (b/c of autoimmune issues) then crashing into ice cream and cheesecake and cookies, etc. When I realized when on carnivore I wasn't eating enough. I remembered people like Dr. Chaffee and Kelly Hogan and Dr. Berry and others admonishing us to EAT ENOUGH to be full. I was barely doing that b/c it seemed like a lot of meat (old programming?). And also, at least at the beginning, don't worry about fasting. Eat when you're hungry to kill cravings. Tho I'm a big fan of IF and know I'll into it naturally, leaving at least 16 hrs between dinner and next day's break-fast.
So when I had reached a new low mentally and physically, I started over with the idea of eating as much meat as I could stand (including chicken, pork (I had missed bacon!) and shrimp) and not worried about the time of day it was (tho I do write it down to keep track). Better to be less strict and stay on it than try to be a purist and have the cravings. Beef alone just wasn't sustainable for me.
So if I can't sleep and would normally get up and eat a PBJ, I instead get up even if it's 3am and cook eggs or have leftover meat or beef jerky (0carb), even if it seems strange. Then I go back and actually sleep, and when I later get up, I'm good until late afternoon.
So for a meal, instead of 2-3 eggs and 2-4 bacon (thick cut) I now have 4 eggs at one sitting with 6 slices of thick bacon. Instead of 2 burger patties (1/4 lb) I have 3 and then some bacon if it seems right.
I NEED TO FILL MYSELF UP, even when i feel like a hog. So far it's working re the cravings. This is day 7. You can do this.
I know it's hard w/loved ones around eating their own way, but once you get on a roll, you can be around them and still be fine. The first 2-3 days are the hardest b/c your baody is transitioning to fat burning, but hold on and you'll come out the other side. Be well. Eat meat. This video came at a perfect time for me. Thanks Mitch in the Sunshine State. Somebody said pray, yes, I do a lot of that, too!

    Beautifully said!!!
I'm not carb addicted soon to be 68, I'm 169 days in and we went out to a nice steak restaurant in Oct for husband's bday and just last night for mine, as I give everyone the day off for my real bday in a few days. I had 1/2 glass of red wine each time, couldn't really finish and he a half a whiskey on the rocks. Also a chocolate truffle she gave us, because it was free and we'd said no to dessert.
The reason I tell you that are carb addicted is because... you can be glad not to even try a little bit. Last night I had such a headache and the next morning, I felt like I had nooo energy. I got over it but addicted or not... it's not worth it. Let me go through it for you and tell you... it's seriously not worth it.
You just feel sooo crappy after feeling so good! We just ate meat for our two meals today... we're just starting to feel a bit better.
Again... it's just not worth it!
Eat bacon...keep some in a baggie in the frig... it's great to keep yah on track.
All the best to you Mitch... you're helping people. Well said, sir!

You are amazing. I'm a 61-year-old female, top weight in 2018 was 360. I started a fasting and keto journey in April 2018 after my A1C came back at a 10.9 even with a once-weekly non-insulin injectable medication. Been a type 2 diabetic for 15+ years. Took me 18 months to lose 60 lbs. Covid hit, and I got off track and regained 40. Started again spring of 2023 and in June went Carnivore overnight. I was either dumping oxalates or my electrolytes were off, ended up in the ER with cardiac symptoms after 3 weeks of heart arrythmia and near-fainting spells that made me afraid to go to sleep at night. 3 weeks without sleep will mess a person up. All the heart tests and a follow up with a cardiologist came back ok. Added back in a very few carbs until my blood sugar stabilized, (it was super high due to the high cortisol from lack of sleep) and then gradually lowered my carbohydrate intake again to where I am now, about 95% carnivore. As my blood sugar started to come down (still too high but better than it had been) I took myself off of the non-insulin injectable that I had taken in one form or another for over 15 years. I re-lost the 40 I had gained plus some, for a total of 70 lbs. down from my top weight, so still at 290 which means I have a very long way to go yet. As my body adjusts to no longer having my blood sugar artificially lowered from the meds, I'm having to get stricter with what I eat. It's a battle every day and every meal. I am a carbohydrate addict. You are inspiring. I can't walk even 1 block and have to stop due to the pain. You're just chugging along at a brisk pace and you're not even out of breath. Absolutely amazing. Very well done.

Personally I was never a person that craved or was addicted to sweets. Can easily pass by that table at a buffet, but my weakness was always rice, potatoes, and pasta - which is just as unhealthy in the quantities I consumed. Thanks for another top notch video!

I had a lot of cravings when I was still eating loads of carbs. But now I'm eating almost 3 years carnivore, and I have not a big problem eating a bit of carbs. Recently, I ate even a desert and rice etc... - without the cravings coming back - at least, nothing I had problems to resist (but maybe it gave me a bit of acne).

I started carnivore (and found you) 4 1/2 months ago. I've had several health benefits including 22 lb. weight loss in that time. I have been eating ice cream and popcorn and realize after seeing this video that I'm still hooked on sugar. My wife, who is obese and could benefit greatly from carnivore, thinks I'm being extreme. I can't blame her for my cheating but it would be so much easier and nicer if she would join me and gain her health back. This was a most helpful video Mitch. Thank you.

I found that I wasn't exactly addicted to carbs or sugar. It wasn't anything so broad. It wasn't like a chemical dependence on sugar. I was addicted to the sensual experience of the foods, specifically the sweet creamy desserts and crispy fried foods. Substituting with artificial sweeteners would just keep the addiction alive and send me off seeking donuts.

I'm grateful that I haven't fallen to the temptation of eating any carbs or sugar in more than a year, and I'm happy with the Carnivore way of eating. However, I have gained some weight because I have been overdoing it on fat -- too much bacon and butter. I also need to get more exercise, despite a very demanding work schedule.
I don't believe there is such a thing (at least for me) as "moderating" carb consumption. I had to eliminate carbs, period.

That's not an unreasonable goal, although I view goals as a problem. Measuring your success against some arbitrary number can motivate you if progress is on track, but more likely will derail you if you start to fall behind. Fact is, if you are doing everything right, progress will happen at its own pace. LET IT!

A tip to rid you of your kidney stones that worked for me several years ago from a natural remedy book on illness. I took a tablespoon of lemon juice each hour from noon until bedtime and later that night I passed the kidney stones, might want to give it a try as most doctors invariably fail to mention this possible cure. Thanks much for your carnivore diet and lifestyle videos.

I'm new to your channel, this is the first video of yours that I have watched and I subscribed and plan to explore your other uploads. Thank you for this one, I relate to your story a lot.
Years ago I tried the Atkins diet and did very well on it, and felt great, but stuff happens, as it does and I slowly drifted back to my plant based lifestyle. Health got worse and worse over the years, weight piled on and at the end of 2019 I started keto. For 3 months I was doing great, sticking to my macros, enjoying the adventure, loosing weight and feeling better in all kinds of ways.
Than the global big thing hit, not going to share my opinions about that, but needless to say due to the chaos and distraction of it all I fell off the keto wagon, for a while it became impossible to get enough of the kinds of food I needed.
Long story short, I started back on keto about 3 weeks ago, only this time I'm doing more of a carnivore version. I'm not counting carbs, but instead I have eliminated all grains, fruit, vegetables, seed oils, beans legumes and of course all kinds of sugar. I'm still eating some dairy a few tree nuts, the occasional avocado and still have some stevia type sweeteners. My carb addiction seems to be triggered by grain, so as long as I stay away from that I'm doing fine.
I recently discovered that I'm sensitive to A1 milk, it causes sinus inflammation, so I switched to A2 and my sinuses are back to normal, well normal for me, I still have a sensitive nose, but no more constant inflammation. The first couple of weeks were a bit difficult, I felt very tired and was repulsed by all the meat, but I'm on track now, loving it, cleared out my kitchen and have ordered a ninja foodie grill air fryer because cooking meat in the oven or gas stove top is too expensive and too messy.
During 'the thing' I couldn't get decent quality eggs for months at times there were none at all, so I bought a brooder and then some chicks and now have a flock of 4 laying hens. well 3 are laying, the other one just likes sitting on them to keep them warm lol.
Thanks again for sharing your journey.

Thanks Paul. No, I eat beef from Sam's Club, and don't worry about things that matter only a small amount. As Ken Berry says, even hot dogs and spam would be a vast improvement over what most people eat these days. I eat very little chicken, but I do eat bacon and eggs almost every day, as long as the bacon label says zero carbs per serving.
