My goodness I wish you had been around when I started this WOE back in June of 2021. Most of the advice was don't snack in between meals and the cravings will go away after (fill in the blank, week, 2 weeks, month...). I had cravings for months. I still have trouble resisting potatoes (russet, red, cooked anyway), pinto beans & chips so I choose not to go to places that serve those foods. I'm 67 and have lost 95 lbs., have resolved many inflammation issues including pre-diabetes, plantar-fasciitis, bursitis in both shoulders and feel so much better than I did 30 years ago. I came to this WOE because I was struggling to wiggle/move, I stay because pain relief in the form of food is incalculable.
My solution for cravings is to go to the fridge and slowly eat a tablespoon of cold butter. Then wait 5-10 minutes. Usually works. Steak and butter gal recommendation.

I started keto last April. Lost over 70 pounds so far and switched to carnivore a couple months ago. It’s a natural transition as you eliminate carbs. I use to be a raw vegan, and let me tell you, after switching to carnivore, I finally figured out what was wrong with me: not enough ribeye and bacon in my life. I use to crave cheese insanely as a vegan. It’s weird because as a carnivore, I can’t seem to fit cheese into my diet anymore and I don’t crave it like I use to do. I feel like I am finally giving my body what it demands. Eating enough fat and plenty of protein is healing!
Love to hear those vegan to carnivore stories. They reinforce our knowledge that we are doing the right thing in the face of overwhelming propaganda. Thanks!
Another great video Mitch! I’ve been Atkin’s in the 90’s, Keto in 2018, Ketovore in 2022 and Carnivore in 2023. However, I always allowed excess carbs back into my lifestyle to put part of my weight back on. Starting my journey of Keto in 2018 I removed 70 lbs and got all my key blood markers to the good/excellent ranges. That is all except the cholesterol #’s, which are very good for us carnivores. I like your 30 day approach to starting carnivore, I’ve implemented it since Jan 1. The emphasis on fat adaption and cravings are most important factors for beginners and us sugar/carb addicts. Thank you for the video's!
Agreed. I have found that keeping a ziplock bag of Kettle bacon chips in my fridge, recipe from Dr Ken Berry's youtube channel, IS exactly what I need for cravings, sometimes I take a smaller ziplock baggy with me when I'm out of the house and my grandkids love them too. I also find those little poptop cans of Vienna sausages really handle and they too can fit in my handbag when I'm out of the house. Sometimes I make a Keto friendly coconut and egg custard batter that I keep a jar of in the fridge, and I can pop a small quiche type dish of it in the oven, for about 35 mins and that really takes care of a sweet tooth if I'm having a hard time, especially, when the family is having things that I'm trying to avoid and I don't want to feel left out. Planning ahead has been key for me, because that carb addiction and emotional eating is real. Also, some activities will get my mind off eating things I should not, as long as It's not a boring activity.
I will rewatch Ekberg video to the end. Pretty much the only person who from the beginning consistently talks about eating ideally without cheating and eating until you don’t like the taste of the food anymore is Dr Chaffee.
Great video Mitch, Since starting the carnoviore diet on dec 1st, the first thing I did was have bacon, sausage links, sausage patties and turkey sticks around, I noticed right away, when I had any craving or hunger, I would grab bacon or whatever sounded good and then I would drink a big glass of water or electrolyte drink, I had no real serious cravings by doing this after my initial 6 weeks on the plan, So I have been able to easily stick to the plan I feel, I continue to do this approach and it works well for me and I cant wait to see how I feel after 3 months or even 6 months on this plan, keep up the good work and this is a great message for everyone, Go Mitch
I love this great advice! I have a spouse that is not on board with me. I always come home from work to all kinds of high carb meals and baked goods. THIS is the real struggle for me. I know I don’t have to eat it but I can’t stop myself. No one has made a video addressing this problem that I can find with a real solution.
I am 75 and did carnivore with my sister in law back in June 2023 and had wonderful results! I kept a diary of what I ate and I stayed on travk! I lost 10 pounds in a month and my arthritis eased greatly, my skin was glowing and my energy was amazing! My husband gardens a lot and when crops started ripening at the end of July, I felt so bad not eating his organic lettuce, summer squash, tomatoes etc. that I gave in. Pretty soon I was eating potatoes, pasta, rice and felt physically terrible and like such a Failure! Now I know I need to begin my carnivore journey again. I have plenty of bacon and meats in the freezer and we have our own hens so there's an abundance of eggs. I want to feel great again! Your videos are so wonderful and you explain things so well, Mitch!! You are my go-to for inspiration!! I'll let you know how I do! Thank you! ❤
Well said. I always told people to not get hungry, eat meat before hunger sets in. If they want that eat the whole rotisserie chicken, do not it. Trust me you won’t want to do that forever. What it does is turns off the primitive food seeking brain because you feel safe, there’s food available.
Another great video Mitch, and that's why we need you. We love our carnivore Doctors, but you explain things in layman's terms that we can relate to because you experienced these things too. Your advice really works. Thanks again. Sebastian Deb.
I’ve been helping a friend who’s been having the most trouble with falling off the wagon at times and eating carbs, lots of carbs. my advice Exactly like you’re saying - surround yourself with food that’s ready to eat at a moments notice. And if you can’t do that, at least have your fridge loaded with eggs and or ground meat -stuff that’s quick to cook even if it’s not ready to eat
Mitch I'm 67 and this carb roller coaster been my go to all my life, do good do bad , but I think I'm going to give it a try, to break this absolute curse, all my life, but today I've got a plan and will prep some food and here I go, thanks for your videos,
Thanks Mitch, that is my goal actually to get that whole new mind set. I think for me the bacon really helps. I had trouble with cravings and have had more bacon and they are pretty much gone. Thanks for your advice today!
Good stuff! I'm consistent with below 10 carbs a day on carnivore for 136 days with this advice. I don't really crave, I call it peckish. Haveing some bacon or left over steak ready to go is working.
When I have a craving (which are becoming rare I must say) I go and eat some meat/fat and then watch one of your videos and feel totally motivated again. I’ve been yo-yo dieting since the 1980s and I’ve got to say I feel like I’ve finally found “the secret!” Thanks for your insightful guidance. And yes, I will have the rest of the day off thanks!
What I find interesting about this way of eating is how it seems to have re-programmed my cravings. It took some time to set in but now when I get really hungry I'm picturing roasted chicken or baked pork-ribs or raw milk or some nice scrambled eggs. No cookies, pastries, KFC or whatever else on my mind.
I've heard this advice from several other carnivore influencers, but it does deserve videos dedicated to it alone. Which I haven't seen. It's usually an item on a list of several other tips for new carnivores rattled off quickly. I know Dr Ken D Berry recommended this strategy as well. Thanks for the video. I'm gonna pass it on to some new Keto dieters I got started recently. If they can make it through the early phases, they will likely give carnivore a shot down the road.
Happy birthday Mitch! I’ve been watching you for a while. I’ve reached a point in my life where if I don’t change, my bad health will become worse. I’ve gotten everything I need from your websites. I think I’m ready to start. I know you don’t know me but we have similar past. Wish me luck
Congratulations Mitch. You're 100% correct I haven't heard anyone else say this (cravings and eat some meat) and trust me I've been listening to them all. Like you said it's because you've been through the experience most of your life. So thanks again for sharing your wisdom. NB ...Don't worry about being the prettiest influencer on the block. How can one compete against the likes of Bart Kay? LOL I'm sure you've helped many on their journey.
Love your show🙏🏾. There is another channel that is big on ‘eating until you are satiated’, they call it PRIMING. “The Steak and butter gal”. not sure when they started teaching it, but they are big on it.❤
I quit coffee to get rid of remaining sugar and carbs cravings. When I drink coffee, my brain neurons plays images of donuts, toaster bagels with cream cheese, and fun times with friends at the donut shop... Without coffee the brain just gave up on those cravings.
@@OldGuyCarnivoreSeriously Mitch. When you said (in a previous video, the one where you were cooking breakfast), you said "the addiction overrides your rational though process". Something to that effect. I always say the same thing and was thinking, "I knew I wasn't crazy". I'll be binging on your videos tonight. Thanks - and keep on, keeping on!!
Hey Mitch - I'm 65, been doing carnivore for a month. I tried keto a few years ago, and had good results, but quit because it was too complicated - everything was all about making your favorite foods out of less than tasty protein substitutes. Carnivore Dr. Berry's style is easy: BEEF, BUTTER, BACON & EGGS. That's easy. The only plants I'm eating is coffee and cayenne pepper (but I'm cutting back on that). Mitch, you talk with knowledge, experience, and authority. Do you have special training, or are you self taught?
One of the craziest things I’ve done to curb my cravings is brush my teeth and floss. I have no idea why it works, but it does. Mental and physical shift of desire to consume anything.
@@OldGuyCarnivore By the grace of God I am almost 42 years in recovery…. I find much of what helps in one area of ‘craving’ applies to another. While I no longer desire my old habits, it is a mental thing for sure. Brushing my teeth helps me differentiate between a craving and actual hunger. I do IF (11-7) and strive to maintain this window as much as possible. If I am truly hungry I will definitely have something compliant with Carnivore to keep the wolf at bay. 😉
Mitch, what's your opinion of Intermittant Fasting as opposed to eat whenever you are hungry? IF lets you loose weight, whereas eating whenever you want will maintain your weight. Any comments on one or the other? Thanks. PS. I am glad I came across your channel. It's nice to see an old guy who has all his faculties and energy.......makes me feel a lot better crawling into senior citizenhood. Plus, do you eat at 6am until bedtime or do you cut off your eating a couple hours before bed?
This advice is primarily for the first 30 days only, while you are becoming fat adapted and cravings can be at their worst. I'm making a video now about the next 30 days where I recommend time restricted eating. Stay tuned!
You’re so right. You can’t willpower your way to control cravings for the rest of your life! Thats just not a strategy and we all know it. That’s just old-school diet mentality. This culture is obsessed with the idea that you have to white-knuckle it through life. The only thing that actually stops the carb cravings in their tracks is to eat! My cravings for sweet only disappear when I eat lots of fat and/or protein. Everyone knows that willpower, goals, psychological bargaining, can’t control hormones. Yet we spend our whole lives trying. You have to stop the insulin hormone spikes. It’s not a moral failing: it’s biology. Carbs make you continuously hungry. End of story. So eat something that satisfies your hunger.
I live in Holland there are no extra things too spice up your meals like i saw in video’s from America. I,m in 6 weeks now and struggle with meat and eggs i don,t enjoy my meals anymore and think of sweets most off the day i take boter bites too stop craving but because i,m so fed up with the meals it,s a struggle is this normal or is it time too stop because it ,s not the diet for me if lost weight and feel ok but wanna know if this is a face were i,m going true or is it gonna stay and get wurse wen i eat or smell the food
There must be some food that you actually enjoy that's not carbohydrate. If not, I can't advise you. If you are seeing health benefits, stay with it as you probably will develope a taste for these new foods.
I have a question: someone had a suggestion that food is also the mother of other addictions, where other addictions (eg internet addiction) are severly worsened in combination with carbohydrate food addiction. I don't think it's always the case but I have the impression that since my carnivore lifestyle I can controll my life also better on other aspects. E.g., now I workout, now I take cold showers. Maybe interesting subject for a new talk? @@OldGuyCarnivore
Mitch, why doesn't someone including you put a list of what you guys eat every day from morning to evening, for lets say a week or more.So people like me could follow, all I see is meat nothing else.I am totally confused if possible I myself would greatly appreciate it.I would love to try it but I just don't know how to start. I eat in the morning 1 or two eggs and bacon but whats next for the rest of the plan every day. And from there on the same thing over and over,I am completely lost I am a few years younger than you ate everything now I take only Lisiniprol for blood pressure and stopped for cholesterol a year ago.
Joseph, I have made many videos talking about what I eat in a day. I usually have about 1/2 pound of bacon and 5 or 6 eggs for my first meal, 1 to 1 1/4 pounds of beef, alternating between steak and ground beef for my second. I usually start at about 11 am and am finished the second meal around 4 pm. About once or twice a week, I replace one of those meals with some fish, pork or chicken with the skin on. About once a month I add a tin of sardines to my omelet. That sounds boring, but I love the simplicity and want for nothing else. Hope that answers your question. Maybe I will make a dedicated video about this as I get asked quite often. Thanks!
Are we sure the epiphany wasn't hitting your head? Not as carnivore perfect as you, but if I get a craving for sugar, I eat garlic stuffed olives or pistachios.

I love to hear that! Thanks so much!
Perfectly delivered speech, Mitch. Thank you so much for this priceless advice.
My pleasure!
That sounds great. Hopefully in time, most of those Cravings will completely disappear and the snacking will be a thing of the past.
I will rewatch Ekberg video to the end. Pretty much the only person who from the beginning consistently talks about eating ideally without cheating and eating until you don’t like the taste of the food anymore is Dr Chaffee.
Ken berry also mentions that occasionally, but you're right, it needs to be emphasized more. Thanks!
Thanks, Don, I'm glad to hear you're doing so well!
I love this great advice! I have a spouse that is not on board with me. I always come home from work to all kinds of high carb meals and baked goods. THIS is the real struggle for me. I know I don’t have to eat it but I can’t stop myself. No one has made a video addressing this problem that I can find with a real solution.
That is the biggest problem for those who don't live alone. There is no easy fix for this.
Hello from Canada. Loved this video. May even be the best one yet.
I appreciate that, thanks!
Another great video Mitch, and that's why we need you. We love our carnivore Doctors, but you explain things in layman's terms that we can relate to because you experienced these things too. Your advice really works. Thanks again. Sebastian Deb.
I appreciate that, Deb, thanks!
Exactly, David!
Thank you Mitch. This is GREAT info. I'm sure it will help my physiology & psyche release/recover from sugar cravings.
I hope so!
Great advice!
Glad you think so!
Great video Mitch.. You are so disciplined::) I am soon to be 83 so I can’t say when I grow up, I want to be like you::)
Lol
Mitch I'm 67 and this carb roller coaster been my go to all my life, do good do bad , but I think I'm going to give it a try, to break this absolute curse, all my life, but today I've got a plan and will prep some food and here I go, thanks for your videos,
You can do it, Carol. Good luck
Thanks Mitch, that is my goal actually to get that whole new mind set. I think for me the bacon really helps. I had trouble with cravings and have had more bacon and they are pretty much gone. Thanks for your advice today!
Bacon is the answer to many problems! Lol
good advice I sorta figured this on my own and like that you confirmed for me keep making videos
Glad I could help
Good stuff! I'm consistent with below 10 carbs a day on carnivore for 136 days with this advice. I don't really crave, I call it peckish. Haveing some bacon or left over steak ready to go is working.
Great to hear!
Well said!! I love coffee! Cream and sugar! I remove them and I am a fully, committed carnivore! My only vice.
👍
Yup, I keep my crispy bacon right in front of the fridge. If I get an ergo to snack I snack on my crunchy bacon. Yum!
Sounds great! Nothing quite like bacon!
you continue to bless me, Sir. Thank you. i will try this hack.
Please do!
I fire up the frying pan and scramble a half dozen eggs and works great for me
Love dr. Sten Ekberge !!
👍 One of my favorites!
You are so correct, Mitch! Rita from Middle Tennessee, keto from June 2023 and transitioned to carnivore 114 days ago!🎉
I appreciate that, thanks!
good morning Mitch. keep up the great work please. 👍
Thanks, will do!
Pretty simple Thanks Mitch!!!!
You bet!
That's great, Lena, Thanks so much!
Amazing how it works that way. Thanks for supporting my theory!
@@OldGuyCarnivore My pleasure!
Good advice, my problem is that the only time I crave carbs is after eating.
Same problem here.
You are not eating enough. Eat till you are Comfortably Stuffed.
Agreed- sweet tooth is worst after a big carnivore meal…..
We're used to desert. Just eat until satiety during your meals.
Hello dear friend…just want to let you know -still watching, learning and love you. Your friend from the coast of Massachusetts-Regina 🥚🥓🩷🥩
Thanks, Regina
I've heard this advice from several other carnivore influencers, but it does deserve videos dedicated to it alone. Which I haven't seen. It's usually an item on a list of several other tips for new carnivores rattled off quickly. I know Dr Ken D Berry recommended this strategy as well. Thanks for the video. I'm gonna pass it on to some new Keto dieters I got started recently. If they can make it through the early phases, they will likely give carnivore a shot down the road.
I know what you mean. I've said it on at least 10 previous videos, but it seems to be quickly forgotten. Thanks!
Genius. This is so simple and game changing.
Thank you!
Okay I will, good luck my friend
Yup I watched the video and commented that I got tired of all the “problems” described by Dr Ekberg and just went carnivore…
👍
We’re all “diamonds”
Shiny bits of carbon.
& like diamonds?
We are all different facets of the whole.
LOL
I'm sure you've helped many on their journey.
I'm much prettier than Bart!
Thank you Mitch!
My pleasure!
Love your show🙏🏾. There is another channel that is big on ‘eating until you are satiated’, they call it PRIMING. “The Steak and butter gal”. not sure when they started teaching it, but they are big on it.❤
I started doing this about a year and a half ago. I have since heard priming mentioned, but not often enough.
I quit coffee to get rid of remaining sugar and carbs cravings. When I drink coffee, my brain neurons plays images of donuts, toaster bagels with cream cheese, and fun times with friends at the donut shop...
Without coffee the brain just gave up on those cravings.
That sound like an associative habit that triggers the addiction. Like coffee and cigarettes.
One of the purpose of intermittent fasting is to get rid of junk food craving
Love him also.
Love all your advice!
Thanks so much!
Granpha best advice ever!!✨
👍
Spot on as always!
Glad to hear it!
I love ❤you Mitch. Thank you!
My pleasure!
I eat whole plain Greek yogurt with an ice cube and some cold water on it to control my cravings...it is like ice cream to me now.
Good afternoon Mitch, from Copperhill Tn.
Hi Richard
100% correct Mitch!!
Thanks!
Hey Mitch -
I'm 65, been doing carnivore for a month.
I had to be self-taught. Nobody in any university teaches this stuff. Maybe we need a new medical school called Carnivore University.
That shirt looks good on you as it matches your hair color now😊 which I swear has gotten darker
It has, actually! Thanks.
Yey, congrats on getting to 20k! And looking very handsome today in your paisley shirt.
Thank you so much 😀
I've forgotten those foods. I've lost interest in carbohydrates and anything plant-based. I wouldn't say I need everything.
That's very common after a while on carnivore. Glad to hear it!
Great video, Mitch
Thanks!
Hard boiled eggs are my go too.
Good choice!
One of the craziest things I’ve done to curb my cravings is brush my teeth and floss. I have no idea why it works, but it does. Mental and physical shift of desire to consume anything.
That's cool. That goes along with one concept of addiction management, that says divert your attention to something else.
I love this!!!
I'm happy to hear that
I LOVE YOUR CONTENT!!!
Thank you!
Stay tuned!
I find a Porterhouse works well!
Always!
Good afternoon
To you too!
Another winner....
👍
Well said!
For most addicts, addiction has bio-psycho-socio roots. IMPO
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Look like you had your Sunday Go To Meeting clothes on. All spiffed up. Of course I'm assuming you were wearing pants 😅
Lol... yes, I'm wearing pants.
😜
You are right on target !!! Eat meat and good fats.
👍
Hi Mitch
Hello there
Hey mitch you are the man!!!!!
I love energy you put on your videos love it love it love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🫶🫶🫶
And I love that you love it, thank you
I live in Holland there are no extra things too spice up your meals like i saw in video’s from America.
If you are seeing health benefits, stay with it as you probably will develope a taste for these new foods.
in a nutshell; satiate yourself with fat and protein; and stay busy.
NO SUGAR KETO ICE CREAM! LOL! KETO MUFFINS IN THE MORNING!
I said it before too, 🙂
👍👍
Thanks!
(8:24) 🎯💯😔👌🏾
Are we sure the epiphany wasn't hitting your head? Not as carnivore perfect as you, but if I get a craving for sugar, I eat garlic stuffed olives or pistachios.
That works, but not really carnivore. Pistachios actually don't do it for me, and I end up eating pounds of them. I envy you!
If pistachios were cheap I'd probably be there with you. The price point assures it's a rare handful.@@OldGuyCarnivore
Eat meat
