Thank you for the explanation of why you train this way. It looks cruel to the non-trained person but is vital to everyone’s safety as the calves grow.
The hay was cut when the grass was green and full of full of nutrients. Now we we go Into the fall, and winter, the grass turns brown, and there’s not much nutrients left in it as it has gone in the seed that has dropped off and then also some of the energy went back in the root. Still We will expect them to eat or graze the unpicked grass as you say, but if they’re going to do well and gain weight, they will do better if we supplement them with higher quality feed through the winter months. Then, when the grass is green, next spring, they can go back to all grazing without us, needing to feed them.
I’m thoroughly enjoying these videos. I have two questions about your dogs. What breed are they and are they born docked or do you dock them at birth? My Border Collies would work both sheep and cattle though not the number of beasts you have!
Wow just wow on the dogs and their management.

Enjoyed watching you and your dogs at work.
Thanks for filming this
That is the best way to socialize the dogs and the calves. They soon will be working together to be moved from pasture to pasture.
I like the way your dogs look to you for instructions
Life on a cattle ranch is so much easier with a good cowdog. Nice work.

Does this ranch ever compete in any cattle trials with these dogs?
Yes we do. In fact, you can find videos on our channel of our dogs competing in the Hangin tree Futurity.
