I was in a Small town of Western NSW Australia and there was a Old well on my Private Camp site. All the bricks had been Kicked into the Well in which was about 70ft Deep. When it rained my Camp would become semi flooded, especially around my Caravan steps, so i decided to dig a Trench into the black clay leading toward the lip of the well to drain the depression. One night was Drizzling rain, i had a Long neck of Beer in my Hand and was walking near the well when i slipped into the trench belly first. I started to quickly slide on my Belly toward the Well whilst in the trench. The Long neck went flying out of my hand and my two arms protruded over the well entrance whilst i was in motion, my head dipped over the well edge and now my chest had approached this zone, i remember my life flashed before me, just like you see on Movies, ( i always thought this was just Hollywood fiction) though i seen a couple of flashes of Great times, and and a blotchy glimpse of my Family. Then Suddenly i felt something Violently Grab the back of my jacket, and i can still remember the sound of the Polyester "Wack" the Jacket made. I lay there motionless just momentarily on my Belly staring into the black abyss below and the sound of echoing water spilling into the well. I thought whom is in my Camp and who saved me then? i got myself up onto my knees crawled out of the trench, peering around slowly looking for a Person or silhouette. Though the only one in my Company was my Loyal Red Heeler X Black Barb Kelpie.See i had saved him many years prior from a Abusive Owner. I then instantly i knew my little mate just saved my Life, confusion developed rapidly into Elation as i put my Arms around him and Broke Down, crying and thanking Him. He Traveled with me for some more years, and Passed away at aged 14 in 2009. I got sober in that year, and have been Sober since. He was my Best Mate, and still chokes me up like now, reminiscing of Me Best Mate. I have a Blue x Red now, i hope if i make it to Heaven Me ol Mate is there, i really Do. Peace to you All.
Precious beautiful dog. Most loving wonderful story I’ve ever heard in my life. I have a merle red female her name is Betty. The love of my life I rescued her she rescued me❤🐾♥️🙏✌️
It's true. For the first year or eighteen months, you wonder if you got the wrong dog, so willful and crazy smart. Then, everything changes and you realize you have the best dog in the world. The initial trouble is worth many times the reward of these special dogs. Ours went blind also; it hardly slowed her down a bit. Can't stop thinking about Mousie.
What you say it's true. We made the same experience with our German Shepard. The first 1 1/2 years she was so crazy and exhausting… But now she's so loyal, empathic, intelligent... best friend.
Skid boot is awesome but sir you are an amazing man. God found the the right dog for you and the right human for a special dog. The first couple years with a heeler is always tough they are so full of themselves and so much energy they need direction and information constantly.
Shiral Boone They have a bumper sticker that says," It's hard to be humble when you have a Border Collie". They should have one that says, "It's harder to be humble to have a heeler". Have a friend with a Chihuahua mix named Dino who rides around with Jim in his truck. Very protective too. If someone comes up to the window, Dino shows his teeth. Then Morgan-a lawyer at our church-calls Dino Fang. Outside of the truck, he's the sweet Dino again. But nowhere he as smart as my Border Collie or a Heeler. My B.C. thinks her job is to look after me. She will wake me up from a sound sleep to herd me to the bathroom. I believe my former Tess taught her I'm diabetic and to look after me before she died at 16. In 4 years, she taught Gypsy Rose Lee how to tell me-or I didn't teach her, just reinforced her-whrn my sugar was high or low. One of Tess's sons became a therapy dog for a little girl with CP. Maxwell Smart-Max- also became a seizure-alert dog for her too. I asked how he was trained. Her mother said it wasn't necessary. By instinct, the dog knew to tell her. Smell? But Then, I know a priest who has a Poodle that tells him when his blood pressure is low so it can't be by smell. Who knows?
Omg ty I have 2 a red with blue eyes & his sister is a blue they r 10 months old I've had them since they were born practically bc our neighbors had the litter but when u said they r so full of themselves the 1st year wow but they have such cool personalities I love them so much
I see both of our great Australian working dogs, Heelers and Kelpies, are getting some attention over there in the States, and you're learning what we've known for years, that these two breeds are absolutely outstanding. Of course they're EVERYWHERE here, they're our working partners and best friends.
Herd dogs, LOL; you best find them or they’ll find one. I was blessed to have two Corgis, they owned me heart and soul. Smartest dogs that ever owned me, LOL… Sure loved you; SkidBoot. You brought joy to so many people. God Bless Y’all… you KNOW there’s dogs in Heaven
My dog, a Blue Heeler / Staffordshire Terrier mix (best dog I've ever had), would do just about anything I told her do without a trained or "one word" command. We communicated thru commands, tone of voice, facial expressions and hand movements.
My heeler, Jade, just trurned 1 year old, I have had her since she was 8 weeks old. She is extremely smart, intuitive, and loyal. I especially see her intelligence when we are hiking. When there are obstacles, you can really see her using strategy and reasoning as she takes each step. With that said.. she IS still a puppy. Sometimes she just cant contain herself, but when she does do something she knows she isnt supposed to do, you can actually see that she feels almost remorseful for what she did, haha.
They totally feel remorseful! They make the cutest faces when they feel bad! They make the best hiking partners too! It has become one of my favorite activities with my pup!
That video was incrediable to watch! I have my own blue heeler at home and i love him so much! Skidboot remindes me so much of him! Skidboot was truly a amazing dog! This video has inspired me to teach my dog some amazing tricks! THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS VIDEO! One question did skidboot ever have any puppies with another dog?
I just recently purchased a Blue Heeler puppy from a young lady outside of Walmart in Texas. He is very smart and is getting some training right now, I’d never heard of an Australian Cattle Dog before, but now I am seeing them everywhere. I hope he does half as well as Skidboot! Love you video!
I first saw Skid boot on Letterman... and was looking at my heeler this eve and thought about him, and found this video, I had no idea he had achieved such fame, over the years ive talked about this most amazing pair.... my boy is loosing his sight now too, its a hard reality that our (human friends in animal suits) dont stay with us as long as we like! Hats off to ol skidall my best Paula
I lost my dog to hip dysplasia I have a 6-month-old heeler now, but I know it sucks losing a dog. They quickly become a part of the family. You just got to know you gave them the best life with the time they were here.
I have 2 blue heelers currently. I used to have a different female and we bred blues for a while! We will never own another breed!!! These dogs are amazing and Skidboot was an amazing example of the breed

I had between 6-10, Awesome, God Given Dogs I'll never have again. I talked to them like I would anyone else. They always minded. They each had a different personality. They were family. Grandpa, Dad, Mom, Aunt. 6 were brother and Sister. All rode in my truck, no training. Grandpa set the standards, the kids n grandkids learned from him.
This is my second time seeing this video. I LOVE Skidboot and the owner (sorry I forgot his name if they said it). Such a wonderful loving man with such a smart and amazing dog. This is a very touching story--I cried the first time I saw it.... AND the second time!! God Bless both of you :)
This is so funny. You got it right, but you know that. I'm from Louisiana and we always had Catahoulas. They're different too. We always talked to them like a person. I was in the Navy in California and somebody gave my boys a red heeler. I'd never heard of the breed. So we talked to jessy like a person. I had a little fence behind my house - we were in the city - and if she heard me out front talking, I had to be careful not to say "Hey" too loud. I was in the middle of a row of townhouses and she would climb over the fence and run around like "here i am, you called me." I knew i couldnt be mad at her so I'd love on her and then tell her, "now jessy, go get back in the fence. They would go watch and she'd calmly go climb back over the fence. That was such a hit that we started doing other things for the neighborhood lol. I agree with you, their brains are wired differently, like the Catahoula. I'm glad I didnt know how to 'train' a dog. Lol
Had 2 blue cattle digs on our farm, when growing up, one was friendly she guarded the chicken pen,the other was so savage no one could get near her but both were beautiful dogs, very smart

They are the most amazing creatures on earth, they are truly superior to even people, and I honestly believe that to be a fact. My Dolly just passed few weeks ago, and I miss my little gurl, because the house, and everything around here is just empty without her. She definitely was smarter than I will ever be, but unlike people, she didn't rub it other people's faces. I don't think she ever met anyone that didn't like her instantly, whether we were at DQ, gettin her favorite food in the world French Fries. Are at the gas station gettin diesel for the truck. She new instantly if I was going somewhere, and she'd pretend that she didn't care one way or another if she got to go. But tell her no she couldn't go this time, and she'd get up turn her back to me. Lay down slump her shoulders, ears would melt as if they never stood up. Lay her chin on her paws, and you could hear her sigh from across the room. She was done with me until I came home, and then she was my gurl again all happy i was home. If she got to go, she'd stand beside the truck waiting for me to open the door, and soon as it was wide enough for her to jump in.. She was in the truck, and done in her seat looking out the windshield sitting there smile on her face. Now only trouble i ever had from her, was if someone else was going in the truck, because that other front seat was hers. She'd look at whoever was riding with us, and they would look at her knowing that her eyes were clearly telling them to get in the back seat, because she wasn't giving up her seat to nobody, and I'd have to tell her couple times that she had to ride in the back before she get up and move to the back. Miss her terribly bad, and I don't know if I want another pup after her.
Healers are crazy smart! I have had about six over the years. Once you get past the stubborn pup, know it all stage, they are the most loyal, intelligent dogs. But, they should always have a job, especially on the ranch, or they will get into trouble!
if you build your dogs confidence and he loves you anything is possible and of course with a lot of time you can have a similar experience it does not have to be a cattle dog but it helps
Awesome awesome awesome I love the way you train train him. I am blind and I had a female blue heeler she’s eight weeks old and I need some tips on how to train her blind in by myself everybody Sandy can’t be done I don’t believe in can’t I can do anything Anything I put my mind to and and Nevaeh He’s crazy wild but very smart do you have any tips please help me
Sorry to hear he's gone. I was going to warn you about sticks. My blue-heeler loved chasing sticks when once I threw the stick and as he ran to the stick it bounced off the ground and right into his throat. It stabbed a hole the size of a quarter in the back of his throat. She can run to mama. Of course all I could do was clean it and keep an eye on it. In about a week it got better. From then on, we throw balls.
Just got ACD rescue dog. She is about a year old. She can be with me and family all day outside and then just run off. I hate to keep her tied. Live on a farm of 300 acres with cattle. She has runoff down the road 6 times. What can I do?
"When the word Skidboot came to me..." I've been on this planet 53 years and the 'word' Skidboot never came to my mind nor has it come to the mind of anyone I know. I didn't know Skidboot was a word. Skid, yes. Boot, yes. Skidboot?!
i have a blue heeler, Bandit that dog is so fast just like a cat, and dont try to walk into my house unannounced she can be super wicked shell tear ya up. id put her up against any dog.

Amazing video, awesome bonding!
That's the kind of dog I want! Yea Skidboot!🤗
Healers are crazy smart! I have had about six over the years. Once you get past the stubborn pup, know it all stage, they are the most loyal, intelligent dogs. But, they should always have a job, especially on the ranch, or they will get into trouble!
One in a million
Amazing
I love this
if you build your dogs confidence and he loves you anything is possible and of course with a lot of time you can have a similar experience it does not have to be a cattle dog but it helps
our Heeler recycles. I have three commands. Get it. Bring it. Put it.

he's an awesome dog!!!!
I live in texas and im 13 and I met the owner of skidboot and I visit him all the time and take care of his ranch 😂
Skidboot was a good boy!

"When the word Skidboot came to me..." I've been on this planet 53 years and the 'word' Skidboot never came to my mind nor has it come to the mind of anyone I know. I didn't know Skidboot was a word. Skid, yes. Boot, yes. Skidboot?!
Skidboots protect horses' legs when they do sliding stops :-)
