The first time I saw Skid Boot was his appearance on Pet Star, and I was amazed at how intelligent this dog was. His owner did a great job of training him, but it couldn't have been done if Skid Boot hadn't been so intelligent to begin with; you can only do so much with what you have to work with. But this man had the best in this dog. Skid Boot lived to be about 14 years old, and I'm sure this man and his wife miss that sweet dog terribly. He was truly a special dog.
For those of you who are wondering how Skidboot knows the number 3 you have to realize a smart dog can have an extremely large vocabulary. Our last dog knew when we were talking about taking him out. We had to talk in code because he would get so excited when he knew he was going out. He knew the words out, go, park, walk etc. So then we started spelling the words but then he learned what we were spelling.
I think 10 years had already passed since I saw Skidboot on Pet Star, showing the whole world what he can amazingly do for the first time. He never fails to amaze me... from then till now... even if I watch the clip over and over, I'm still awed by how great he is. :)
Smart dog!!! I've got two Cattle dog/Australian shepherd mix dogs (Texas Heeler) and they are VERY smart too. Easy to train! One was rescued and one was bought from a breeder in OK. High energy, smart, beautiful and great companions, I doubt I ever get anything else. Good job Skidboot I hope you are still doing your tricks over the rainbow. RIP
"I just show him something for a few minutes, and if he doesn't get it, we move on, and if he does we just do it for a few minutes then stop." THAT is damned fine dog training, and it sucks no professional saw what an amazing trainer this guy really is.
I have seen hundreds of B. ir red heelers, and he looks as purebred as any I know. He was a special boy. David is always ate-up with humility, but he is as special as Skidboots is. They have shown millions just what can be achieved with dogs. I have had this one family of Australian Shepherds for over 40 years and the herding dogs are the sharpest and most willing partners, if handled right. They can just, with proper teaching, develop a vocabulary of 200 words or more.
I love how they stated that at first Skidboot had behavior issues but then they approached the problem and changed their technique and his awesomeness surfaced! I wish more people had that patience with their pets instead of mistreating them or abandoning them or surrendering them to a shelter because of similar issues.
That dog was a genius. So attentive to his owner.... My chin chihuahua mix can sit and that's about it... My yorkiepoo is about as dumb as a rock. RIP Skidboot.
That dog is so awesome! I just got two Blue Heeler female puppies, 4 generation champion bloodline. I'm sure the first year will be the hardest. Lol! Love them! 🙏💖😊
Everything that y'all say about skidboot sounds just like this Australian stubby tail healer puppy I got back in December. I got her from over at Lott, and she has this perfect circle on top of her head! So I called her Dott from Lott... Nickname is Lottie should be alottie cuz she is alottie bad good crazy funny and most of all the smartest pup I have ever seen except for your dog skidboot! If dogs could be reincarnated I would most definitely this he was. You know when you got something special and seems like everyone will take notice in that dog too. And she will draw a crowd too! She is almost 5 months old and is a handful and everything I show her how to do she does it! I have got her almost howling "I love you!" She gets it quick! If you want to see her just look at my RUclips I'll post some videos of her. I just would like to chat with you and get some advice on how to handle her. You did a fantastic job with skidboot and I am also sorry for your loss. He seemed like he was a great dog!!
I agree with the person who said SkidBoot is Cattledog German Shepherd. I am hooked on cattledogs I had a Red for 12 years now I have an Australian shepherd Cattle dog mix. There simply is no smarter breed . I swear there were times I thought my red was smarter than me, maybe she was. Anyway my next puppy will be a blue heeler AKA Cattledog. And please do not get one if you don't have room for them to run. They are super high energy and very durable. Rough and tumble I just lovem.
well most pure bred dogs tend to be pretty inbred. my dog is a complete mutt with some prodominant bordercollie- and she is the smartest sweetest dog i ever met. she can do all sorts of stuff- she can even open doors... not a trick and its a pain in the ass that she ifgured it out- but amazing none the less
how come the master said he got Skidboot for the wife but bonded more with Skidboot?its actually better though, cause probably the wife would have never trained Skidboot if the master never bonded soooooo......good!Bless Skidboot hope you made it to doggie heaven!!!!!
It's easy to see that you have very little actual experience with dogs. Very nearly all dogs are much more intelligent than they are thought to be, and many are smarter than their owners. They will become neurotic or good citizens, and loyal members of your pack, by the way they are handled. Everybody should get to know Ceasar Milan, NatGeo's Dog Whisperer.
I bet he does this by training the dog to get the ball after he say's the word "three" a certain number of times.I think the trigger is the fourth "three".
The first time I saw Skidboot performing, it blew my mind. This dog 🐕 was smart. Rip, Skidboot

If you notice you could see how Skidboot always looks at him, great owner, great dog. Respect!
I have one of the same breed, they all do it :) most loyal dogs in the world
Im pretty sure hes a smithfield cattle dog without the stubby tail
Great daddy. We don't own other animals. We adopt them.

Love ME some dogs!!!💖💖💖
I actually remember seeing this the first time it aired on Animal Planet. He was the best and my favorite!
He was on the first episode. It was all over. None of the animals that came after him could compete with these two.
Same
I have watched this so many times and I'm still blown away. Truly amazing man and dog.

He trains dogs now, or he did. He may have retired by now. Idk. He had some of Skidboots children.
I just loved this dog! RIP, Skidboot.:-(
I remember Skidboot was on Texas Country Reporter. Rest in peace, Skidboot.
He should have been cloned.
This guy lives in somewhat near me and he came to my school a few years back and we got to watch it in person! It was soooo cool

Skid boot for PRESIDENT
Stray dogs always seem to be more intelligent, and even loyal, than pure bred. Looks like Skidboot has those genes in him too.
Now stand up please. This man truly loved his adopted son.
I noticed how skidboot is always looking him at him good dog
Watching Christmas 2020... throwback. RIP 🙏🏼
Wow. Me too!

skidboot is just amazing!!!
RIP Skidboot! We'll miss you.
amazing! 🎉 i have a 2 year old blue heeler, his name is turbo. he’s the best, so smart & active.
That dog is 1/4 German shepherd mix, 3/4 Australian Cattle Dog
I agree, when Skidboot pricks his ears forward, and really most of the time, he LOOKS like a German Shepherd.
Yo Fred Willard was on this show love it
He was an amazing dog 🤩
Amazing dog, amazing family, amazing story :)
I like Skidboot. He is kind and funny. He can do many tricks.
End.
one smart dog... Hope he is happy up there...
Me too, he is the best dog.
I eat lunch with David atleast once a week. He eats at a little burger joint called Burgers and Fries in Union Valley tx. Just a good ole guy.
Skidboot is literally a dog in a million!!! Super Clever!

wtf?
Man, I can just smell the racism through the monitor. Great dog trainer, though!
1 dislike for the cat owner!!!
