- Chub is an eight-month-old Hangin Tree Cowdog out of Wilcox’s Slate and Dagley’s Annie. He was bought as a pup, and his new owner had him going to stock really good. But she decided she’d like me to put some training on him.
Here I was demonstrating his progress when they came to pick him up.
Although I am using commands with Chub, I am also using a lot of body language to communicate with him.
I’ve found pups develop differently, and at different ages. So, I will adjust my training as I see how sensitive the dog is and what I think it is ready to learn. Training is not a one size fits all program. It is getting to know each dog, learning what that dog needs to work on, then figuring out how to teach that to the dog in a way it understands.
I am very happy with where Chub is at eight months. He has the grit and drive to work all day, and is showing a lot of ability to read cattle.

I love the dirt pile in the background for the kiddos.
These are great dogs and fun to watch at work. They love to work. Friends have them and train them for their own use.
Beautiful dog! I love to see a well trained dog.
The cows...”We’re tired of training these dogs!” Lol! It’s amazing the vast, landscape...I’m from Pennsylvania, where 100 acres is a big thing.
I AGREE I AM IN CONNECTICUTT TO SEE LAND LAYING LIKE THAT I HOPE THEY KNOW HOW LUCKY THEY ARE

Love the Bible quotes and the unique views of these intelligent and devoted ranch "hands."
Can you get a dog to cut out just one cow and how do you do that. Or you could just show it next video. Thanks as always
G'day Miriam, I teach my dogs shear off a cow by teaching my dog to "split em" I tell them to walk up against a wall until pup splits the mob and then I put a command on it. They understand over time and it doesn't affect their mob work. I then get the dog to split them up and put my hand on a wanted cow and say this one and give him a "uh" if he tries to move anything but that single cow. Stay calm and happy and they work it out. Over time you can just point to the cow you want but thats once the dog has a strong understanding.
Great work!!
I wanna get two trained where you working out of
Why do you feel it necessary to get so much volume in your voice when you send the dog or he’s away from you ?
The volume in my voice is to carry the commands over longer distance. the closer the dog the quieter the commands.
@@dagleyranch ... when they are moving as fast as they are, it sometimes takes a loud command to Penetrate their focus... at least it seems like that with mine...
Where did you get your guard rails from?
Anyone know how many years a hanging tree dog can work before you need to retire him?
I always thought I was a hangin tree
Do you neuter your dogs?
