I found this video to be really helpful in understanding the basic commands. If possible, do you think you could do a video on how to teach the AWAY TO ME/GO BY commands? Thank you.
Very old video but very enjoyable to watch. I'm looking forward to a small herding dog to help with fowl and maybe sheep on the homestead. I've been watching sheep herding but th is is the first time I've seen the cows - even though that's normally what I think of in herding since my son-in-law is a cattleman.
I'm not in a place right now where I have a lot of cattle to teach my 8 month old border collie. Can I use ducks or sheep and later transfer over to cattle?
At what age do you start each of the commands? Our blue heeler puppy is 9 weeks and has come to me and sit down pretty well. Now we are working on down.
Dude thank you. Just got a dog on the farm and she shows the ability. I've seen good working dogs but I've never learned to train stock dogs. Figured I'd teach her to play hide and seek. But she already calls off and gets down.
I have a border collie corgi mix and i work on a farm with a large herd and usually i have to chase cows around and my dog is a house pet and needs more stimulation so i was trying to find things to teach her as far as herding and this is quite helpful she picks up on commands so quick she is super intelligent thanks
Yes, it's very useful to have some basic commands to control your dog. I'm just using 'Come, Go, Stay/No' and body language to communicate to my dog and often we have misunderstandings or mistakes, so trying to not use her help much, but when she's doing right it's a real help (getting chickens into the run or helping to catch escaped bunny or quail without hurting them).
I have a blue heelerxstumpy tail cattle dog. He is amazing at listening he is glued to my hip listens to sit stay and lay down when he starts to wander which is very very rare he comes when i call. my only problem is he is completely uninterested in cattle which is upsetting considering we work for a ranch that has 600 head and as much help is the best. I did take him through a herd of heifers and he didn't even look at them his eyes are GLUED on me constantly. If i ride a four wheeler he runs and barks and nips at that. Im just starting to get disappointed and loosing hope do you think he is a dud or is there still a chance. (he is 8 months old we just got him about a month ago never been around cattle.)
I learned more about herding commands from your video. Great to watch!
What are the best ways to get your dog to have such a strong focus on you and listen intently?
You ever do a video teaching them to drive?
Wondering why your dog was cowering. You need an e collar for a border collie?

Of course
How much would u like for one of your dogs?? Do u transport them to the new owners?
But how do you train a pup to learn those basic commands in the first place?

Hey great video. Question have you ever been able to train a heeler like that?
Really helpful! Thanks a lot Jerry!
Amazing how much Murkins have learned about dogs since the advent of RUclips... once upon a time it was 'GEE and HAW'.... lol
What do you charge for a dog
Thank you for this video!!!!!
I was taught to use one word commands. Not "get down", just "down". Or "here", or "come" but not "come here". It wastes time and is superfluous.
2013... still entertaining.

How much for two trained cattle dogs?
@@joseconde9282 A couple of grands plus you should be trained how to control them (how and what commands to use).
@@naturewatcher7596 thank you for that quick response..
