The creaminess on the potatoes might be dairy-free! At the Mediterranean place in my town the sauce on the potatoes looks like dairy but it’s garlic and tahini 😌 it’s labelled as dairy free.

You said you don't understand the natalist argument really but you hit the nail on the head! You do want a family but rather than have your own and bring your own kids into the world you'd rather adopt. That's part of the view right there! Not wanting to bring more life into the world when there are so many kids that need a home already. Also, what you said about people who don't like kids are for it. I personally don't really like kids and don't want to have any and am kind of leery about bringing kids into a world that may be doomed to become like Mad Max soon. However, there are kids who already are in this world who need to be adopted or fostered so there's always that option.

I'm not anti-natalist but I don't want children of my own. My perspective outside of my personal reasons for not wanting children is that I don't want to bring new lives into a world that we're actively destroying - like you mentioned about the weather changes, I don't want to subject my own children to the aftermath of that. Additionally, as an American - things in the US have been shaky for a while but especially recently, I wouldn't want to bring new lives into this country the way it is now. Maybe I'll change my mind if things improve but at this point I feel like having children in the US is only serving to bring new people into the underpaid workforce with inadequate healthcare. And for people of color in this country I imagine having children at this time is even scarier.

My own mother often said stuff like "LOOK at those chinese people eating dogs" or "These japanese people kill so many whales and dolphins it's terrible I don't like them!" And then we always fight, because I try to explain to her, why it's BS to assume that ALL japanese or chinese act like that. Of course I've seen these terrible pictures of blood red bays and dead sealife and it makes me cry, but the culture changes, it just takes some time.

I think being anti-natalist is definitely unrealistic. While I do agree that the Earth is already over capacity, I think a more realistic thing we can do is normalize not having children (since there's such a stigma around not wanting kids), and normalize adopting kids. It's strange how obsessed people are with having kids who are their own flesh and blood.

How a western person can eat meat and then draw an arbitrary line at dogs because they find it weird is actually kinda funny now I know that east asians are looking at western eating habits the same way.

That desire out weighs my concern sometimes and I know that is selfish... But I get it. I understand those who want kids because I do. I just don't understand why certain families feel the need/want to have like 6+ kids. I would never want to bring any additional people into this world beyond replacing. I think every person could have one kid max and adopt and the world would be a better place.

I think a part of the fur wearing vs leather wearing discrepancy stems from the wrong idea that people think the meat and skin are taken from the same cows, they have this strange circle of life “use the while animal” excuse. First of all, cows do not give a flying f*ck if you eat them or wear them or whatever. They just want to eat grass and run around. Secondly, the leather industry is a separate thing, and “leather” cows are bred for having better skin, not better meat, meaning the meat you buy and leather you buy are typically separate industries. Finally fur IS skin!! How do people think it’s all connected together without falling apart? The hypocrisy is REAL dude

I love this Mukbang and I agree with mainly everything you say, you know how fangirl I am when it comes to your channels but we have to admit that hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance are everywhere for someone who lives inside the modern capitalistic world. Even vegans that are very committed to their cause can't avoid exploiting humans if they own electronics and cell phones for instance, even people who try to eat more fruit and vegetables to fight global warming can have a high carbon footprint if they live in Canada for example (a lot of your plant-based foods are imported because of your climate). I personally try to do my best by eating mainly plant-based (but still a pescetarian) and by purchasing most of my food locally but I still buy bananas and chocolate (as a European, it's impossible to have those locally) because I love them. I try to keep a smartphone at least 4 or 5 years to avoid the process of creation and waste but I still own one even if I know how it is made. I guess we have to be conscious of the fact that being a human who is part of the capitalistic world is necessarily being a hypocrite or stepping into cognitive dissonance at some point. Sorry for the pessimistic comment!

I dont know if anti natalists are against everyone having kids. I think it's just a matter of people having less kids or choosing to not have children or adopting instead. In order to reduce how fast the population is growing. Because if we keep reproducing at the rate that we are we're eventually going to run out of resources and room. But I'm not sure if that's true or just my understanding of it.

The zoo topic is a difficult one. I'm vegan and a vet assistent from Sweden. But when I was in school to become a vet assitent I did a lot of research within zoos and i think there are zoos who are goood and those who aren't. In Sweden and we have pretty much the best laws in the world on animal captivity. But what i wanted to say is that zoos have three goals which are research, education and reasstablishemt of animals in the wild. None of them are entertainment. Zoos are needed for us to learn more about animals cause with zoos we can more easily study the animals and their behaviours. Although with that said I am very picky with what zoo I would go to sinsce there are a lot of bad ones, like for example I would never go to any zoo in america.

Even Swedish zoos exploit animals for entertainment as a way to get money. They kill perfectly healthy animals, even those classified as endangered.
Zoos are not vegan, it’s animal exploitation. It doesn’t matter if the zoos in Sweden are “better”, it’s still unethical.

I definitely agree with you on the one-topic activism that you described. When you are so eager to yell on other people for participating on eating meat from a certain animal that you do not eat but then you eat for example beef or chicken and just brush it off like it is your right to be able to eat that. It is called speciesism, people. Look it up. Do not be a hypocrite.

Could we do a mukbang without the amplified eating sounds? I really want to listen to the conversation, but I cant with all the eating noises. It's not like sitting and eating with someone, its like being inside someone mouth while they eat lol I'm sure ASMR folks love it, but it makes my skin crawl 😶

33:06 Antinatalism is at its core about non-suffering. The only way to guarantee a sentient being won’t suffer is if they don’t exist in the first place. Not existing includes no pain and no death. The child doesn’t consent to coming into this existence, so there is cause to believe it is wrong to bring them here. There are plenty of people that are angry at their parents for procreating, especially if they are having a horrible life and don’t have the skills to help themselves rise above. And then there is no guarantee the child brought into this world will be vegan, even if raised in a vegan household. If they are not vegan they will contribute to the continuation of suffering in this world over their lifespan. And in general, they themselves will endure suffering in their life even if only to a small degree. Nobody makes it through life without even experiencing as much as a headache, jealousy, or a small papercut. The Antinatalism philosophy argues that there is no amount of pleasure in the world that makes the suffering worthwhile. The potential suffering in comparison to potential pleasure is asymmetrical. This is why it is immoral to bring new life into the world, you cannot guarantee that the child you are responsible for bringing here is going to have a good life and in turn won’t harm others intentionally or unintentionally. For antinatalist parents, adopting and/or being a foster parent is, in fact, moral because those individuals already exist, you are not morally responsible for bringing them here. You can definitely be an antinatalist and a parent! I’m planning to foster a few teens when I’m in my forties. There is a difference between being childfree and being an antinatalist, though you are correct that people are probably more likely to be an antinatalist if they don’t have a desire to raise children in the first place. There are probably plenty of people that don’t want children for themselves and also think it’s totally morally acceptable for all of their friends and peers to pop out the maximum amount of babies that they want.
I personally have never wanted to be responsible for young children, but I am willing to provide a home for people who maybe had a rough start and need the love and support in preparation for being an adult in this society in order to live healthy and well. Perhaps that person would have suffered more in life had you not stepped in and changed the course of their life for the better: introducing plant-based nutrition, stress management, and other good tools for living. You do make a really good point about the aging population, because ideally we want little to no suffering in the world where we can help it. Perhaps voluntary euthanasia would be the solution for the last generation, but I think it would happen more gradually with each generation just having a little less children or people would have one child opposed to seven … yes, there are crazy people out there having seven children ... right now that isn’t an issue, our generation already has had a lot of babies. There are plenty of babies to care for us when we’re old. All the new babies would have to be the generation that decide not to procreate. We definitely got to slow down though! I think right now people just need to focus on caring for the unwanted children in the world that are coming into existence and use contraception themselves and better educate the youth about contraception too! Unwanted birth happens every day. Like I said in the beginning, it’s about non-suffering, so while we still have an overpopulation in society and life is booming, we need to do better about creating more peace in the lives that are here now.

The hypocrisy that gets me on the daily is when people throw a fit about animal abuse but who they themselves treat their dogs like a toy for a kid and get rid of them when they stop being cute. The people who claim they loves their cats, but make them live outside on the farm and they only eat the rats they catch, like a tool instead of a living creature. Don’t say you treat your pets well and that bar for “well” is set at not beating them to death.

As always, you bring up so many important points, I cannot comment on all! So will focus on "single issue activism" ....just this one video has informed my stance for me when people protest against dog/cat/horse eating when they eat/abuse all other animals and exploit the animals they claim to love ( eg. animal breeding, zoos, rodeos, racing....ugh!!)....I cannot go to a zoo any longer....so grotesque. Actually, I do not go rodeos or watch animal racing, either...also horrible.

At this point I think anti-natalism depends on it being something that not all people will decide on. To me, it seems more like a valid way to bring up the option that, well, if you really don’t want deeply to have your own children or raise any, then you don’t have to. And that , as a minority of the human population, you are doing a good thing anyway. In a practical sense, it kind of helps to ensure that the people who do have kids have totally thought through the option of not having them, and having to make that conscious choice to raise them are dedicated to doing it well. Love as always

Also the topic of zoos versus sanctuaries is so hard to understand as a vegan and an animal rights supporter because there are the obvious good guys which are sanctuaries closed to the public and then there are the bad guys of terrible roadside attraction zoos where animals are in concrete pits with no grass or natural habitats. But then what about zoos that do provide the natural habitat and lots of space but charge and allow people to come and see the animals? I don't know, it's hard to see where to draw the line. For example, my city zoo (San Antonio) state they are a nonprofit who rely upon funds from the public to function and are really suffering right now due to people not going there. I've only been once many years back and the animals seemed to be well cared for but then again, they are still in a zoo. I guess I need to do more research with them and ask them how they obtained the animals etc.

As an environmentalist, I understand why people might not want kids because of the overwhelming increase of our population. I love kids, but I dont want to be selfish and have 4 children, so I've told myself to have one of my own and if I want another, then adopt. Theres families having 6 children and then those families having 6 children which is the main problem, which is why I believe that worldwide (where people can access contraception), we should be limited to 1 child per family, and adoption being the next option. Hopefully there will be less children needing love 😊
