Nah, that slide only covers about two thirds of his range. (It stops in octave 2, not because Geoff can't go lower, but because there wasn't enough time before he had to break off and sing the next thing). If you actually want to know Geoff's range, just watch the last 10 seconds of Oogie Boogie song. Granted, the slide here is very impressive in its own way, not least because it's a _slide_ and also because it's very rapid.

Geoff (the bass) is pronounced Jeff. Eli (bald guy, tenor) pronounced Elly as in belly. Acapella groups like this are definitely best experienced with good headphones so you can pick up all the bass and vocals at their best! All their members have an amazing range, none of them are limited to their vocal "label". Layne Stein is the beatboxer, he also arranges a lot of their songs and also sings. Geoff also arranges a lot of their songs. A very multitalented group of people :)
Geoff has a near 5 octave range, and has both tenor, bass and basso profundo range :)
Eli is tenor 2, but has tenor 1, baritone and bass range.
J.None is baritone, but has bass range and tenor range.
Layne the beatboxer is also baritone, but has tenor and bass range with the help of various techniques.

Rachel Potter has played Ariel live for Disney, so she is very familiar with the character. Geoff (pronounced "Jeff") has a natural bass-baritone range, can singe down to F1 in chest voice, but very good for using subharmonics that go even lower, while also having a 5 octave range into high tenor. The baritone doing lead on "Under The See" is J. None; he has an impressive range, as well. The guy in yellow, Eli, has an interesting voice that hangs out in tenor a lot, while he can cover baritone and bass, as well. Layne Stein is the beatboxer, while he can sing very well, too. Very talented people.

Their soprano, Kate Lott, is one of the most talented I've ever heard; see how effortless her final note is in "Mary, Did You Know?" They also do several Disney Medleys that are phenomenal. And all with no beatboxer, which you don't even realize isn't there unless you pay close attention because it doesn't seem to detract from their performances or arrangements (and I love beatboxing, especially in acapella groups). Layne (the beatboxer) and Geoff (the bass) tend to do most of their arrangements, although Eli (bald, glasses, Tenor 2) has started doing arrangements as well. Their arrangements are part of why I adore this group so much; there is such creativity in their work. And you aren't wrong about the ranges of every member- I don't think there is anyone in that group whose range is anything less than unearthly. Eli has been known to pick up bass lines when Geoff is soloing. And as impressive as Geoff's range is, Layne's range is actually pretty much the same (and even broader if you include some of the sounds he can create through ingressive phonation). VoicePlay is by far my favorite a cappella group; they are all immensely skilled and ridiculously creative, but I think what puts them ahead of the rest is the sheer joy that comes through their performances. To many artists take themselves so seriously as to forget to have fun with what they are doing. VoicePlay is always having fun, and it shows through in their performances. It's also impressive to note that they produce nearly everything in their videos themselves- Eli does lighting, Geoff and Layne do directing and editing, they source their own locations and costuming etc. It's pretty amazing; the only things I've noticed them subbing out are makeup, final sound engineering, camera work and occasionally they will get assistance in arranging, particularly for female vocalists. These guys are the complete performance package, and I am HERE FOR IT.

Eli joined the group over 10 years ago. J joined several years ago, after another member, Tony, left. You'll see Tony in their older videos, he did lead in their The Phantom of the Opera also with Rachel. He left to start his own production company Pattycake Productions, with Layne (who stayed in the group). They do the Villains Lair series, which is super fun. The guys of VP have shot several of their videos at the Pattycake studio.

Voiceplay has been around a little while. When they competed on the TV Singoff (where PTX and Home Free found their ways to stardom), they had six members including a female lead singer, but for a while now they've just been five guys. They had one other personnel change about five years ago. So, from that time up until 2020, they were:
Earl Elkins Jr. [kinda heavy guy]: high tenor
Eli [pronounced "Ellie"] Jacobson [bald guy]: low tenor
Jesse Nunn (prefers to be called JNone) [Black guy]: baritone
    Geoff [pronounced "Jeff"] Castellucci: bass
Layne Stein: vocal percussion, occasional singing, occasionally plays violin, does arrangements
But, as you mention, they have wide ranges.
So, that's who you'll see in most of their older vids.
Earl left the group in early 2020. He hasn't yet been permanently replaced. So, between that and COVID19, Voiceplay has been doing vids with various guest artists, male and female, in the fifth spot.
Also, Geoff has started doing music vids this last year on his own YT channel. So far, he has seven. In most of them, he sings all the parts himself. In Oogie Boogie's Song (with Voiceplay) and in Blackbird (on his own channel), he hits an E1.
JNone is an associate of vocal coach and reactor Tara Simon. He also works with Disney. And he, too, has his own YT channel. NOTE... He just posted on YT yesterday, and I just discovered it today, that he's joining the Navy as a vocal musician. He's leaving for Boot Camp on May 13. So now, Voiceplay is down TWO positions.
But of course, we still have all the existing material on YT. Plenty of rabbit hole to go down. If you start reviewing their stuff regularly, you'll pick up some new subscribers.

Awesome reaction! Voiceplay is the jam. I just recently started listening to them myself. I am excited for you going down this particular rabbit hole. Now go listen to Voctave for more vocal perfection. I never get tired of people saying the same things... "Why has no one ever told me about them". Well I'm telling you now. Just do it! Go get your mind BLOWN! They are all current or former singers for Disney. Voiceplay, Home Free, Pentatonix and others, while all awesome in their own right, Voctave is the gold standard for a cappella. Trust!!!

Barely made it half way, and loving your enthusiasm, excitement, and genuine surprise at Geoff's amazing range, and the rest of the band being absolutely amazing. I am definitely subscribing, and I hope to see more Voiceplay on your channel. Especially, as I am sure has been mentioned, Oogie Boogie Song, and You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch. And I will have to browse your previous content, but if you haven't done Home Free or Pentatonix, then you are definitely about to enter a whole new world.

Welcome to VoicePlay Danielle! Loads of fun and outstanding performances to come your way. Geoff Castellucci (Bass) posted a two part tutorial titled "How to sign really low", in which he describes his voice and training methods used to perfect his lower register. Part Two is more extensive than One. Definitely worth a listen. I have always enjoyed your reactions. Clear and to the point.

Hi Danielle! Glad to see you landed in the acapella world! VoicePlay is my favorite acapella group, with Home Free a very close second.
I hope you will keep on reacting to VoicePlay! I recommend "The Oogie Boogie's Song" from A Nightmare Before Christmas, "Daddy Sang Bass" from Johnny Cash, "Queen in 5 min", "Boy Bands in 5 minutes" and "Just Sing". Make sure to have CC ON for Just Sing.
To be honest, anything and everything they have done is great!!

It’s always fun to see people’s first ever reactions to these acapella groups. Looks like everyone has filled u in pretty good on Voiceplay and I totally agree with - please do Oogie Boogie Song next :) if ur familiar with Pentatonix then ur probably aware of them winning their season of the Sing Off. Home Free won the following season and Voiceplay was 6th I believe that same year. So don’t forget to check out some Home Free also cuz we love em all. Keep em coming cuz we love ur reactions too.

Danielle, from 6:54 to 7:23 there was no sound so I have no idea what you said during those 29 seconds. Since you said you only know Pentatonix, PLEASE start reacting to Home Free. The usual 1st song is Man Of A Constant Sorrow. They won Sing Off the season after Pentatonix. Their fans are called Home Fries. Their Bass singer, Tim Foust has a range of 5 Octaves. His low has rattled speakers. And you can hear him & Pentatonix's Avi Kplan in Home Free Ring Of Fire that says Feat Avi Kaplan.

Geoff is a true basso profundo. If you really want to experience his range, watch their cover of the "Oogie Boogie Song" from Nightmare Before Christmas. Geoff is the lead singer as Mr. Oogie Boogie. He flies up into the rafters with his tenor chops, but crashes through the basement floor into sub harmonics. Definitely worth the listen.

    • @defnotaghost6460
      @defnotaghost6460 3 года назад

He is NOT a basso profundo. If you can blast an C2 over an orchestra then yes you are a basso profundo and if you can blast easily a E2 over an orchestra then you’re a regular bass. He is a light bass baritone, cus I doubt he without a mic, over an orchestra could sing lower than a F#2 or an F2 at best.

Guy in yellow - Eli, leather jacket - J-None (recently left the group), bow tie - Layne, and of course blue guy - The incredible Geoff who has a 5 octave range. To really hear Geoff's range you need to watch The Oogie Boogie Song by Voiceplay or his cover of Blackbird or the Headless Horseman.

Home Free is my favorite vocal group you must check out! Their vocal ranges are stunning! (4-5 octaves) Their rhythm section (2 basses, and percussionist’ who can sing gorgeous tenor harmonies and sing so low they rumble eardrums. The two tenors have crazy ranges too. My favorite member the percussionist is appropriately called Freak of Nature, does things that blow me away with his percussion, and sings stunning tenor harmonies when they sing 5 part vocals!

You really must hear other VoicePlay songs (Ooggie Boogie, My Mother Told Me). Geoff also has its own YT channel where he talks and covers songs (Sixteen Tons is amazing). Would be lovely to add to your to do list: Nightwish (The Greatest Show On Earth, Ghost Love Score, The Phantom of the Opera in 2 versions, Yours is an Empty Hope), Epica (Sancta Terra, The Phantom Agony, Adyta+Sensorium). Quite interesting and popular is also live session Jinjer - Pisces and Kamelot (Elizabeth I, II, III).

Geoff (pronounced Jeff) Castelucci has his own channel where he shares a lot of things including solo covers like Tennessee Ernie Ford's "16 tons". VoicePlay also covered a Moana Medley as well as several tunes from "A Nightmare Before Christmas". One from that movie "The Oogie Boogie Song" Geoff shows off his range from B4 to E1. Eli (pronounced like Ellie) is dressed like Flounder. J Note is the Sebastion in this video. Lane is the beatbox though Geoff also does some and they all help with percussive elements in other songs they do
