This masterpiece was arranged by Layne. As a perk for some patrons, we got to do a Zoom call with him while he was working on the arrangement. Then, also as a perk some of us got to be a ‘fly on the wall’ via a live feed from the studio on the day of filming. (That’s where we found out that Geoff is exactly one women’s size larger than Ashley for the blouse and shorts!). They treat their patrons really well, and we love them for it!
If you listen closely to Layne at the end, he is saying “ We don’t talk about Bruno no”!
Partly because folks tend to forget Layne can hit most, if not every note Geoff can due to his mixing in the percussion with pitches.

VoicePlay is amazing is almost everything they do. Dream On is INSANE!!!
Ashley was in If I were a rich man/girl.
It's the facial expressions that keep me coming back.
Geoff is playing Camillo the shapeshifter, that's why he looks like Bruno when he sings "seven-foot frame", like in the original, and switches to Isabella in her verse. Took me way too long to figure out. I love how pissed/concerned everyone is with him in that shot, their expressions are hilarious. Cesar channeling Latin dad energy is everything. Fun fact: they had to lipsync Isabella's verse in double speed then slow it down in post since the rose petals are really heavy and clunk to the ground instead of floating, they basically stood under a leaf blower during that entire section. Also listen to the BVs after the word "umbrella", Layne had so much fun arranging this, even though it's a bit risky, thankfully no one noticed. Geoff's rat shriek was really solid but they decided to replace it with the stock "screaming goat" sound effect for teh lulz. He did it live at a Disney performance though

The next time you listen to this, single out Geoff’s bass line to focus on. He’s hitting some crazy notes and dropping a ton of subs towards the end.

On Ain't No Sunshine from Bill Withers ., Geoff Castellucci absolutely crushed it, with his new cover that song always remain a classic rightly so, but the new version actually let you feel the uncertainty , confusion and pain of the lyrics , in a way that the original did not.

I feel that Ashley was singing it to stay connected to Geoff's line... Geoff playing Camelo throughout... dropping into lines while maintaining bass greatness. It's amazing how 5 people can bring 125 voices into a cover.

You seem to like Eli? Then I recommend Kurt Hugo Schneider with Voiceplay in Waving Though A Window. It shows what a singer Eli is.
It's truly amazing what they can do, wiping the floor with the disney version, and doing it a cappella.
Geoff is playing Camilo the Shapeshifter, hence why he changes from Bruno to her & back again.
Each song gets better. Wait until you hear Dream On. They are so amazing. Loved Geoff stealing Ashley's solo and go back and look at everyone else's (esp Lane) expressions during that. They are so playing off each other. I'm obsessed with them. Ceasar's and Ashley's duet in the beginning. Eli's solos but esp the "look at my head" section. Lane doing Delores solo. So mind bending.

Actually, the costuming choices were all Layne's.
I haven't seen the movie, but from what I have read, Geoff is playing a character who can change shape, so that is why he kept changing costumes.

This is definitely in their top 5. Wicked is still #1 in my book. Regardless, they've been doing such great work over the past six months that they should be up for a grammy or two--Wicked and Bruno in particular. (If PTX can win, so can VoicePlay.) I think they have really cemeted the four core members and having that fifth spot for a guest singer seems to work out awesome for them. They really maximize the use of their guest singers. I know I want to hear VoicePlay with Rachel Potter and Ashley Diane. Has anyone done these kinds of harmonies in the soprano range? (Just image Kate Lott joining that mix...)

This is definitely my favorite of theirs in this style. I am in general more drawn to the epic, chordy songs like Hoist the Colours and Dragonborn Comes, but I think they did this to perfection.

Voiceplay do a Boyband medley, and honestly, the lads can dance! Vocals are of course on point, but it's pure fun!!
Voiceplay was asked to sing this live for special event by Disney. There is a live stage performance of this on youtube. The hall has a bad acoustic reverb on the recording but you can hear they are right on it.
Certainly this qualifies as *one* of their best. I am particularly impressed by the vocal handoffs. I hope to see more arrangements by Layne.
Listen to their version of Tennessee Whiskey. Three soloists do the exact same melisma, then three singers do the melisma together perfectly. I sing in various choruses. This is terrifically difficult. Mad props!

You should definately check out their cover of Attention by Charlie Puth. It blew my mind and it is a little bit older. Earl is in it and so is Rachael Potter! Man it is a good one.

Their most recent cover on an Aerosmith song was also so well done (although maybe not as well as this one was :P - definitely one of my favourites thusfar) The group is so insanely talented that I just cant help following them and watching their music over and over!
This is just all that and a nine-course dinner. You have the amazing harmonies VP is known for, plus the humor, plus Layne sings, plus Ashley who is just awesome, plus Geoff in a blouse… how could it not be one of their top five??

These guys are so much fun. Everything they do is exceptional. And their latest, Dream On, is another amazing cover. Ashley appeared with them in If I Were a Rich Man/Girl. Amazing voice. Also to hear something very different from the original, try Geoff's Ain't No Sunshine. It's so much more moving than the upbeat sound of the original.
Geoffs costume change and sudden singing made everyone so confused. Lol🤭

I have been looking forward to your reaction to this, and you didn't disappoint! It was such a fantastic arrangement and performance! It took me several times watching it to notice all the spooky "ooohs" in the background that lent a lovely atmosphere to the whole thing.

1. Yes, the best... for the time being - or do you have any doubts they will do even better?
2. Yes, Voiceplay and Miranda's songs are great for each other, especially since both have approach of simultaneously singing different lyrics in different voices. I was actually sure in advance (before coming to that part) that Layne will do Dolores since he's already rapped in Moana medley.
3. Since you will be re- watching anyway - listen closely to the last Layne's run: he has literally beatboxed in whole the main line of this song.
One of my all time favorites.... up to 3M views now, and I've definitely contributed my share. The arrangement and the richness of how all the voices are intertwined... Really enjoyed your reaction and your comments.

Ashley is the one who talked Geoff into the costume change! Ashley was the "rich girl" in VoicePlay's "if I were a rich man/rich girl".
I would like to see Ashley become a permanent member...she was great in If I were a Rich Man/Girl. Her voice is really elastic and she and Caesar blend so well. And I think I heard she is only 17 or 18 years old. Amazing.
I am sure Ashley would love you for saying that, but I think you've gotten her confused with another VoicePlay collaborator, Adriana Arellano.
@@Debs_Badger Hey Debs...don't mean to be an I told ya so:-) But Adriana Arellano was the teenager who collaborated with Voiceplay on "Your a Mean One Mr. Grinch". Ashley was the one who did If I were a Rich Man/Girl. I'm old and admit that I can get things backwards some time, so I checked just to be sure... I got this one right LOL! Now having said that Ashley may NOT be a teenager so I'll give you that one.

They were fantastic. Jeff's baseline towards the end is absolutely insane. Not his solo but is in the background Harmonies and baseline. If you haven't heard it yet they did several covers after this. You have seen ashley in if i were a rich man. Would love to hear your analysis on the dragon born comes, Dream on, And aint no sunshine when she's gone. The dragonborn comes is absolutely breath taking. Dream on is awe inspiring. And geoff did a solo cover of ain't no sunshine Which absolutely blew my mind

In addition to Rich Man/Girl, Ashley's done minis with them. (Surface pressure: Critical Role Theme) Their minis are often ignored, but in addition to being gems, they often hint at techniques and sounds that are being worked on and will be heard in future full length projects. Because they're short - when reactors do cover them, they usually do 2 or 3 at a time. Would love to see you take a bite of the minis... especially Crazy, I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire, and my perennial favorite, Mr. Sandman.

Nobody does Disney cover songs better than Voice Play. Some fans of Home Free & Pentatonix say " but Voice Play never does an original song. I say it takes a lot more to do a cover song & stay true to the original while adding their own twist to it. They have respect for the original artist & don't over step their bounds. They are the best at arranging a cover song.
