Rachel has done actually alot with Voiceplay and some more songs they did together that you should look at are "Phamtom of the Opera" and "Kidnap The Sandy Claws"!
To me Voiceplays "Phantom of the Opera" interpretation was a real disappointment. When I reminescene of my childhood, the one Phantom that really stood out for me was Peter Hofman (a german Phantom-singer). He stood out, because although he was Tenor, his voice was colored full and deep, what made him quite creepy. Most of the other Phantoms have quite bright voices, and therefore fail to intimidate me and be takens seriously as Phantom. When I saw, Voiceplay was performing Phantom of the Opera, I was hoping so much that Geoff would sing the phantom. I bet, he could do wonders if he tried. Instead they went with Tony Wakim as Phantom. His high pitched voice is such an "american" Phantom and sounds to my ears like a child is singing, not intimidation at all. Such a pitty. Oh, and their take on beatboxing this song ruined whatever was left of it. I like a lot of what voiceplay has published, but Phantom of the Opera was a clear miss for me.
You should check out "My Mother Told Me" by them. And also check out "Man Of Constant Sorrow" by Home Free and "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Pentatonix. I also highly recommend Diana Ankudinova "Wicked Game", you won't be disappointed.
I'm with you, the part where Moana returns the heart of Tafiti is so beautiful. Did you notice that she goes from super-disney-bright sound-on-her-teeth in the rest of the song to a much dome-ier placement to sound wise and older?
VoicePlay did such an amazing job! The arrangement, harmonies, vocals, everything is outstanding! Rachel won't join them, at least not now. We heard from Geoff that she's semi-retired from the music world, growing her little family (1 or 2 babies, not sure) and venturing a bit into real estate. They kind of left the door open for more collaborations in the future, but not the heavy schedule of rehearsal and tours 😭. She really is amazing! Another one she did with VP is "Attention", really good! VP announced that Cesar de la Rosa is now an official member, replacing J None, who left a couple of months ago. Please check the 2 vids they did with him, "We're Good" (Dua Lipa) and "Butter" (BTS), they are both great! I love your reactions!
Love your reviews on VoicePlay! Be sure and catch "My Mother Told Me" and "We're Good". Also Geoff does some incredible solo vids, including "Misty Mountains" and "Sixteen Tons". #subscriptionsquad
You should definitely check out their cover of "Just Sing". Rachel, and many other a capella artists, collaborated on it. If/when you do, be sure to turn on the captions. They included information about who everyone is, as well as some rather snarky remarks.
My problem with "Shiny" in the movie is that the voice actor singing the part was putting all his energy into doing a David Bowie impression (I think it was meant to be ??) that I had a hard time hearing the actual lyrics. Which, you know, doesn't work if the lyrics are supposed to move the plot forward, and explain the conflict. Geoff's cover was the first time I actually understood what was supposed to be going on in that scene. Geoff's singing diction is so crystal clear that even RUclips's automatic caption algorithm understands it. And RUclips's caption algorithm usually just gives up and goes out for a coffee the minute *anyone* starts singing -- anyone except Geoff. A lot of people heap praise on his vocal range (and rightly so). But his enunciation and articulation are equally superb.
The guy who voices him is Jemaine Clement, one half of Flight of the Concords a folk parody duo, that is just how he sounds when he sings and personally it was one of my favourite parts when I recognised his voice in the cinema since its 100% the sort of song he would sing even outside of the movie.
As others have said, for even more sides to Rachel and her voice "Kidnap The Sandy Claws" with Voiceplay again, and "Poor Unfortunate Souls/ I Put A Spell On You" with Voctave are both excellent. You really can't go wrong with any song from either of those groups. And, if you haven't listened to Voctave yet, please do, you will love them.
If you like Disney, VoicePlay has another medley of "Frozen 2", they also have covered "Go the Distance" and a lot of "Nightmare before Christmas" songs.
they are really good! Iam singing with them. thanks to my 3 years old who loved moana and watching it since she was almost 1 year because of that I get to memorize its lyrics.
If you like a capella, you should react to Home Free. They are easily at the same level as Pentatonis and Voice Play. Although they identify as a 'country' vocal band, they do all different styles of music, from country to pop, to folk. Their Man of Constant Sorrow is incredible, and then they hit the other direction with End of the Road and Never Gonna Give You Up. Folsom Prison Blues, In the Blood, My Church, When a Man Loves a Woman...
My Sweet Danielle, I’m your newest subscriber! Trust me when I tell you, as a 70-year-old lifelong Acapella singer and fan. There are currently a “Big 4” in the Acapella World. There is Pentatonix - Winners of Season 3 of the NBC-TV Acapella Group Competition show - The Sing-Off. Then there is Home Free -Winners of Season 4, and VoicePlay from Season 4, who might have been heavy competitors against Home Free, if IMHO they’d had Rachel Potter as their female singer instead of who they had. These 3 are all quintets (5). And then there is IMHO THE Greatest Acapella Group on the Planet - the 11-member group - Voctave. I believe their 1st recording was their Disney Love Medley, featuring Kirstin Maldonado from Pentatonix and her then fiancée, Jeremy Michel Lewis - from Season 4 AcoUstiKats . Voctave was formed in the winter of 2015 by producer and arranger Jamey Ray. It is understood that during rehearsal Jeremy came up with the name Voctave. “V” for the Roman Numeral “5” + Octave for the groups 5-Octave range = Voctave. So, 1st how about reacting to Disney Love Medley: ruclips.net/video/zLMeDUBKmBs/видео.html Watch Jeremy as they get into this, He can’t stop smiling and shaking his heads in amazement at Voctave’s Wall of Sound and Kate Lott’s Soprano notes. After you react to this, let me suggest Voctave’s Disney Princess Medley: ruclips.net/video/aBCukAJwKN0/видео.html Please react to both... You won't be disappointed! #Subscriptionsquad
I subscribed to your channel just to watch your Voice Play reacts. Voice Play's 'My Mother Told Me' will *change* you, I promise. It's a currently popular cover song that was introduced by the Assassin's Creed Valhalla game, but the words are from a real, rather ancient poem written by (I kid you not) a 7-year-old norse boy named Egil, after he first killed another person - an older boy who had been bullying him. Started a brief clan war, and when his (father? Jarl? I cannot remember which) made his displasure known to Egil in the aftermath, this was the first verse of his answer, composed on the spot. Anywho, all of that is to say that you *need* VP's cover of this in your life.
As many have said, Rachel is also featured in many other VoicePlay videos. I especially recommend two of them: “Phantom of the Opera”, where she sings the lead together with their former baritone Tony Wakim. It’s older than this, but great! The other is “Attention” where she sings the lead together with Eli (tenor2). It’s really great too, and I think from the same year as “Moana”.
Hi Danielle, your comments on the"Shiny" sequence in the movie match my observations exactly. It just...wasn't good. Geoff did a nice job salvaging something out of it but the base material was flawed. HOWEVER, I have listened to the "I Know Who You Are" sequence dozens of times. Geoff's bass line is otherwordly, ethereal and flawless. And I do wish that this arrangement spent more time on "We Know The Way." The song is a masterpiece and should have been highlighted as the centerpiece here as it was in the film.
Hats Off to Voiceplay for giving such a great medley. And Hats Off to you to Danielle for a wonderful reaction. Have a great week Danielle!❤️🇵🇭 #subscriptionsquad
Absolutely loved your reaction!! I loved the comparisons you made between your opinion of the style the songs were done in the movie versus how voiceplay made it their own! Amazing as always!!! #subscriptionsquad
If you enjoy acapella, I have some other recommendations for you: Maytree - a veteran Korean group, they have recently taken to covering sound effects of electronics, so amazing! Their performances on vocal play (an acapella competition) are amazing! Especially boom boom and attention. Jared Halley - a one man acapella artist. He's uploaded many recordings on RUclips! His original song best of me is so good
For those who don't know yet, Rachel has also been on Broadway. Among other roles, she was the understudy for Glinda in one of the national tours, which I'm sure Danielle is happy to hear based on her comments on the Wicked medly :), and on "Broadway proper" she was the Mistress in the revival of Evita--the one nominated for a Tony!
I’d love to see you react to voiceplay this is Halloween, my mother told me and then Geoff Castellucci sixteen tons, blackbird and Misty mountain cold. #subsciptionsquad
Love your reactions, Voiceplay just so impressive and entertaining, it puts a smile on my face to see the excitement or wait for it moments on others faces when watching. you have covered my favorite songs of theirs already though their version of 'You're a mean one Mr Grinch' is hilarious and awesome you can tell they had fun with it. Also if you are looking for a new artist to React to(I haven't seen her songs on your channel yet anyway) I would suggest Annapantsu, My favorite songs of hers are Prince Ali from Aladdin and Hellfire from Hunchback of Notre Dame. She really sings her heart out on these songs.
voiceplay has a new video that came out on patreon today, it’s their best one yet imo. (It’ll take a week or two to cone out but that’s okay :,) I figured I’d tell reactors so they have the heads up)
I agree that the original "shiny" feels completely different from everything else in the movie. but I'd argue that's a good thing. the whole "monster world" part is so different in tone and goal from everything else in the movie, which makes sense, seeing how it is supposed to be a world seperate of the mortal world (sort of). it's supposed to be it's own place. eveything else has been influenced by actual humans and the tribes, which reflects in the music VERY well, having a more tribe-like rythm and pallet. meanwhile, since no real mortals traveled to the monster place, it's purely the monsters and nature that influenced that area, which in turn is reflected in Shiny. Also, Tamatoa is a 4th wall breaking, egocentric, greedy egotist. If he wants something, it needs to be HIS and only his. the fact that his song is so different from everything else emphasizes his egocentric personality extra well. his song is different, doesn't belong with anything else in the movie, but does borrow some small aspects here and there from other stuff in the movie, which shows his greed. and the fact that his music is completely off, also represents him breaking the 4th wall; "I don't belong in the world you saw up untill now. I am my own creature. I am more important, that's why both me and my music stand out. to make sure you get it, I went and made sure the director made my music not fit in." also, if you haven't yet, you should MOST DEFINATELY check out rachel's collaboration with Voctave, where she sings Poor Unfortunate Souls and I Put A Spell On You.
You are going to absolutely love this one if you are a Moana and acapella fan. Great reaction and you are one of the few who picked the opt up at the end by Rachel which I think is really good too. #subscriptionsquad
HOME FREE is a county A Capella band (the only one) , that does more than country. PLEASE listen to HOME FREE - MAN OF CONSTANT SORROW or anything else that suits you. to start your journey. They have a big fan base called Home Fries. These guys have a comedic aspect to some of their songs
Another great reaction beautiful. I must confess myself a little sad that you haven't reacted to Geoff's solo stuff yet because Voiceplay is great but his solo stuff is out of this world. And Rachel has an absolutely angelic voice and looks too but if you want to hear creative listen to Geoff's version of Mele Kalikimaka. Anyway love you and your reactions #subscriptionsquad
If you like Voiceplay, you have to listen to their version of Oogie Boogie Song, from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Geoff is so good at singing villains. 😊 And I agree, Rachel is a natural born Disney princess. 🌺
hi coach! im first up in the comments. this is going to be great, and with Rachel Potter singing with them just made it even better.can you also do a reaction to Geoff Castellucci's Far Over the Misty Mountain? ❤🙏 #subscriptionsquad #Julyjamboree
Check out the A Capella group Home Free. Those guys are amazing. Can't Stop The Feeling, Love Train, Man Of Constant Sorrow, or When A Man love A Woman, just to name a few.
You're so funny! I had the EXACT same reaction and thought. It is (was) my least favorite part of that movie, but somehow Geoff was that 'spoonful of sugar' I guess I needed to like it more. LOL
Loving your reactions and if you love Acapella groups you should try voctave and listen to the Disney princess medley it is 100% live and amazing to see such talent producing all the background music with voices and not realizing that nobody is actually playing an instrument!
Hello and Good Evening Danielle Hope your day was a good one.....Great Reaction ...your awesome, I remember her from either agt or idol i forget now... #subscriptionsquad
Something I'd interested in since you're a big Disney fan is "aurora into the unknown" would be interesting to hear what you think as she wrote the song #subscriptionsquad
I think of "Shiny" as a song about the colonizers: he's a greedy crab who appropriates from the native culture (specifically Maui) and loves only gold. And it's sung by a white Kiwi. I think it's very subversive.
In terms of the movie, there is something... off putting about the song Shiny. I feel the same as you about that entire sequence. It's not that the song is bad, or the performances. It just feels like the song was deliberately structured to be uncomfortable. It's something about the rhythm and the pacing. I don't know. I'm not a musician. But I can feel it every time. Which is actually brilliant song writing.
soooo i loved it when i first heard it way back like goosebumps all over! and hearing it again, that part from 8:10 to the end got me emotional for some reason i cried a bit, very captivating💕💕💕 and i ALSO didn't like shiny before🤧, it feels awkward and a bit out of place for me, but Geoff gave it justice😎 i love your reaction toooooo😍 thanks for this❤ btw pls react to KZ Tandingan's performances on Singer 2018😊
Soo I have been binging your channel and am so glad that I found you! Please please react to Rachel Potter's audition to X-Factor. I've seen it a million times and I still get goosebumps! #subscriptionsquad
Hi Danielle, I really love your videos! As a fan of Dimash and Morisette, I suggest you check out So Hyang. She is absolutely incredible! Arirang Alone is a must watch!!! And as a fan of Voiceplay, you definitely have to go down the rabbit hole of Home Free videos! You'll love them, I promise! Keep up the great work, you definitely have a new subscriber!! Lots of love and stay safe and healthy!
Your phone case is so pretty! I loved this one but agree that I prefer their 'shiny' cover Would love for you to react to Tyler Joseph from Twenty One PIlots BBC live lounge performance of their song My Blood #subscriptionsquad
The scene with the giant crab was my favorite part of the Moana movie. I guess I'm in the minority but to me the worst part was Maui singing his "What can I say except you're welcome" song. I know Dwayne Johnson can sing well enough, but there was just something about it that felt very off to me. Like the singing voice didn't match the character, or something.
PLEASE REACT TO MICHAEL PANGILINAN - LAY ME DOWN COVER I SWEAR IT IS THE BESSSST COVER ❤ THANKS I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. SPECIALLY ON HOW YOU EXPLAIN EVERYTHING.
Yeah, Rach used to be "Ariel's friend" (to use the Disney lingo) at Disney World, so she's got some chops :)
Watch Voiceplay + Rachel Potter doing Phantom of the Opera.

Would love to see you check out some of Geoffs solo stuff. I think youll like it alot!
Indeed - "Blackbird" would be right up Danielle's alley I think.
I'm right there with you on that part. He does such a much better job than the one in the movie. #SubscriptionSquad
Hi Danielle, your comments on the"Shiny" sequence in the movie match my observations exactly. It just...wasn't good. I love geoff's transition from Shiny to the first note of 'i know who you are.' it's my favorite part of the whole medley.
I personally liked the movie version as well, but I also like Jemaine Clement. He does have a distinctive voice, though. May not be for everyone.
Hats Off to Voiceplay for giving such a great medley. And Hats Off to you to Danielle for a wonderful reaction. Have a great week Danielle!❤️🇵🇭

Absolutely loved your reaction!! I loved the comparisons you made between your opinion of the style the songs were done in the movie versus how voiceplay made it their own! Amazing as always!!! #subscriptionsquad
This is so much fun. Rachel has a lovely voice and she blends in effortlessly with the guys
She also did belle in beauty and the beast, and Nemo in finding Nemo, and Wednesday Addams in the musical Addams family. And was on the x-factor
If you enjoy acapella, I have some other recommendations for you:
Maytree - a veteran Korean group, they have recently taken to covering sound effects of electronics, so amazing!
Eli shows his bass chops backing up Geoff when he has the lead.
I’d love to see you react to voiceplay this is Halloween, my mother told me and then Geoff Castellucci sixteen tons, blackbird and Misty mountain cold. #subsciptionsquad

She did agt country version of somebody to love (queen) Killed It!!!
Kidnap the sandy claws is a must now honestly 😉
It's great fun (not to mention this weird deep growl thing Geoff does 😳)
voiceplay has a new video that came out on patreon today, it’s their best one yet imo. (It’ll take a week or two to cone out but that’s okay :,) I figured I’d tell reactors so they have the heads up)
I agree, so great!!
You should listen to Jonathan Young's version of Shiny if you want something more menacing as it's my personal favorite version
You need to listen to Rachel doing “poor unfortunate souls/I put a spell on you” with Voctave!!
If you like Voiceplay, you have to listen to their version of Oogie Boogie Song, from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Geoff is so good at singing villains. 😊 And I agree, Rachel is a natural born Disney princess. 🌺

Beautifully Sung🐦🦋🌻
Check out the A Capella group Home Free. Those guys are amazing. Can't Stop The Feeling, Love Train, Man Of Constant Sorrow, or When A Man love A Woman, just to name a few.
That Jermaine Clement writes music. Flight of the Conchords is not orthodox and certainly not Disney. He write and voiced Tamatoa.
Great watching you turn into a Disney kid while watching the video
Try Voctave Disney Princess ... Also, Rachel Potter has sung with Voctave also
Her Disney voice is very intentional as she was a Disney performer.
If you love Disney and princesses may I suggest: Voctave - disney princess medley
I second James Brooks comment especially voiceplays version of Phantom of the opera!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥👀👁😎🤘
Hot take: Shiny is one of the best villain songs I love it lol
You're so funny! I had the EXACT same reaction and thought. It is (was) my least favorite part of that movie, but somehow Geoff was that 'spoonful of sugar' I guess I needed to like it more. LOL
You need to react to Jordan Fisher singing You’re Welcome. Crazy good vocals!!
Loving your reactions and if you love Acapella groups you should try voctave and listen to the Disney princess medley it is 100% live and amazing to see such talent producing all the background music with voices and not realizing that nobody is actually playing an instrument!

Voiceplay - Kidnap The Sandy Claws .... please.
If you like the Disney princess songs, check out Voctive Princess medley
i've watched it already and i enjoyed it..but its more fun to watch it now because of you..🙂🙂

Would you think of turning your phone sideways to watch in full screen?
