btw the note20 ultra is over 300€ (914€) down not even 2 months after launch, same with s20 ultra (930€) and the normal s20+ is 669€ right now. On black friday you will get a 50€ discount, so you are even cheaper than the new pixel
to sum it up: Wait a few months and get the flagship for the same price as the new midrange phone

Bought a SAMSUNG phone for the first time. I was waiting for Pixel 5, but in USA the S20 FE sells for a 100$ bucks less which makes it more attractive.

I have been using budget phones before this therefore really happy with the upgrade.

It's generally preference as Pixel 5 is the only good compact android phone. Even if samsung sold s20+ @ $700, I would choose Pixel 5. Some people do have compactness as top priority.

It's crazy how we see $700 phones as a bargain now. I remember paying that much for my flagship S6, and I realize there's some inflation over the years but flagships have basically doubled in price.
me too, had the S6 edge for 700Euros, It was the highest priced smartphone back in 2015. Now 700 euros is like a midrange phone lol

Well the quality of phones keeps getting higher and the amount of features keeps growing, so they get more expensive. Phone manufacturers need to start doing what console makers do and sell their hardware at a loss soon and make it up afterwards with subscriptions.

S20 fe had sold 10 million units in 2021. Recently purchased it here in India, it's manufacturing date was Jan 2023. One UI 5 is smooth and feature rich.

I disagree with the selfie camera ring on the s20 fe. I have one myself and I can tell you that it isn't as bright or irritating as it looks in the video.
Too much studio light was put and reflected on the ring in this video.
I'd say that with the ring it even looks more polished.
The point Dave was making is it's broadly less appealing to highlight it than it is to hide it and that it's an aesthetic choice made on purpose. If you like it highlighted than that's great.
Yeah the A51 has the same ring. I saw it with my cousin and it doesn't look as bright.

He talks about how it feels without even having touched the pixel 5. Just because it's worse than the note 20, doesn't mean it'll be worse than the pixel SMH, and add to that you actually get a faster processor, expandable storage, bigger battery, I can't seriously believe him slating it because they've 'made it worse than the note 20'.
Because it's obvious when you first touch the samsung s20, you can simply say it based on previous pixels experience, I would rather buy pixel 3 than s20 even if it they had the same price. I can suppose with 90% confidence that pixel 5 will be better and would pick it over note20 ultra even if they had the same price. Software quality and overall feel of the phone is mile ahead of Samsung, imho

Not nuts at all, its super average. Also no stabilisation on front camera. Usual oversaturated crap colours as well. People can complain about what Dave saying but on raw image quality and colour science pixel will always win. Probably win on video too with this years upgrades..

True but clear cases are a thing. That satin finish on my OP8 looks sick, especially with color shift and reflectiveness of the glass. That's hard to replicate with plastic.

Samsung phone with out proximity sensor have does ring.
They are using camera to determine proximity, so when you put your phone near your ear, the screen near camera will turn off. and that crhome ring helps device to get that better
Being honest, there too much focus on cameras, I use the camera very situational and the phone way more. The camera spec dont appears to much and don't sell 50% of a phone to me

What a joke, it has clean android doesnt mean it's smooth, it always has performance issues for some time now, even their flagships have performance issues, i used to be a pixel user because of the hype of tech RUclipsrs guess what? it's all a messed up experience, battery life was poor, performance hiccups, constant bugs in software one update solved it but another appears, the only only great thing is the camera and constant updates that's it, moved on from pixel and never looked back, got a Huawei flagship after that, updates ofc not as frequent as pixel but the performance is top notch, software was stable and now using a xiaomi flagship guess what? im glad that I'm not stuck in the pixel or stock android hype and shit
It's implicit selection bias. People who make review videos are gonna be camera-focused.
I bought a flagship phone once because I wanted the fastest one with the best camera at that time (HTC One M8). It gets hot, battery drains fast, and has some bugs like any android device at any price point. Decided to replace it when it won't read my SIM card anymore and since then I only bought the mid-range ones with the best bang for buck. I still experience the same issues, but I don't mind because I paid only half the price for almost the same performance as the flagship of that time.

The attention to detail speaks that this phone is not the best that Samsung's got to offer and they don't have to put too much attention or if any at all in this phone.
On the other hand the pixel 5 is Google's top of the line phone so they treat it as such unlike samsung being having a large variety of smartphones catered to a more diverse demographic.

At same price point as the pixel 5, its offering better specs, which tells you that pixel should be able to make a better phone at that price point. Yes, the pixel might have slightly better camera, but thats about it.

People want reliability from their phones that’s why they use a samsung and “not 300 dollar phones from china”. Pixels have been unreliable with issues with each generation

I'd prefer the S20 FE over the Pixel 5 just because of the better specs. I don't use much of my camera on my phone ans OneUI has some nice features over stock Android too.

@@brownchair2698 Many features that come to Android updates were previously in OneUI or other Android skins. One example is the one-handed mode that is coming to Android 12, along with the way the (settings, dialer etc.) apps are designed (also coming to Android 12), larger Samsung phones have been pretty easy to use compared to many others.
Another favourite of mine is the side panel which contains app shortcuts and other tools.
Though it's because of these many features that OneUI has often been known to be slower than stock Android, but these days with how fast phones are there's not much noticeable difference in terms of speed. So, just go with what you like or are used to.

@ImMovingOn Worse build quality, cameras ( specs aren't everything), better software and I'd say also battery life because, again, specs aren't everything. The only things that can change my decision would be the processor and the expandable storage, the rest I'd go with Pixel

I do agree with you 100% on the front camera bit. Why did they do that? I had the S10 Lite and the front camera of that thing hid perfectly when the screen is off. It's straight up amazing. Camera lens on the front of phones are meant to be black to blend in, and this time it feels like Samsung cheapens the look of the product on purpose (well it's not the first time they've done this).

@@itakpeemmanuel5863 I came from the Note 8 right before the S10 Lite, and after a little while I realized I missed features like:
- water resistance
- wireless charging
- larger camera aperture for faster shutter speed
The S20 FE also came out with the red color I've always wanted, snapdragon 865, 120hz display, and will have longer remaining time of getting updates. All of these together make it a complete phone for me; seemingly worth it the price difference for something I wanna keep for 2+ years.
@@itakpeemmanuel5863 I did have some degree of green tint on my s10 Lite at low brightness (5-15% the bar). It's not so horrible, and well I think we might get the same problem on the FE, lol. My old Note 8 got horrible green tint at all brightness.

After several firmware updates to address the serious s20FE touchscreen ghosting issue, the problem is NOT 100% resolved ... and beginning to look like a hardware issue.

Yes! Main reason I didn't get the S20 FE and got the Pixel 5 instead. Plus here in AU the Pixel 5 is cheaper (compared too 5G model). Very happy with it, coming from a Galaxy S7.

in austria and germany FE is slightly more expensive than the regular s20 while the regular has 1440p, glasback wireless charging whereas the FE has the better SoC ...

It only matters for people in the US. In Canada, before tax, the Pixel 5 is $799 CAD and the S20 FE is $949 CAD. So the two phones are not even in a competition with each other up here.

I love Dave2D, but It's quite obvious that he's being a bit biased towards the pixel. The S20FE is an amazing buy, and at $100 less.
Samsung has nightmode on the ultrawide unlike apple. Its pictures are literally the best in class. I have not seen pixel's ultrawide though

The way I heard of Dave Lee was when he was featured on an Unbox Therapy video. And he said that the s10e was absolutely the best choice for the s10 line. I've followed him ever since, and I'm really surprised that he wouldn't say the same about the s20 fe. Side note, I got the s10e in part because of his recommendation and I never regretted it for a second!

The s10e is a great phone, so maybe you should trust him on this as well! the S10e vs the pixel 4a is a similar comparison, they both sell for around 350, the S10e outspecs the 4a, but at times I still feel jealous of my partner's 4a just because it works so well and cleanly and the camera quality is amazing. I think he's right that the user experience is the most important, and for a lot of people the pixel might be the easier phone to recommend just because it's so simple and easy to use. I spent an hour removing samsung's bloatware from my phone when I first got it lol.

I agree with you on this. Infact, to drive home the point more, Dave's comment about how not everyone likes Samsung's OneUI with its accompanying "bloat", is in my opinion, incorrect and could be his aesthetic or lifestyle bias/preferences being unintentionally highlighted. Rather, i would say that people enjoy the OneUI experience more than the plain and sparsely populated Stock experience. No matter how you slice it, more features add value. However, tech reviewers so easily dismiss these features as, "it's just software", but are not giving credit to the devs who are adding in all these value-added features. Lastly, the vast majority of people are huge consumers, and do not really subscribe to the "minimalist" lifestyle, who are in the minority. So, it would stand to reason they see more value in a feature-rich experience - "give me the works!"
@@CerealforProtein This is only my experience but I don't know a single Samsung user who wouldn't want the bloatware to go away and would prefer stock Android on samsung phones every day of the week. Not only is it more elegant and simplistic, it also runs smoother and is less performance hungry.

Unpopular Opinion:
One UI is really cool and is a lot more feature rich than stock. It has got super efficient and sometimes even faster than stock. It has features which stock doesn't which makes it difficult to switch back to stock after using a Samsung Flagship
So Overall One UI is BETTER

The S20 FE is already a better deal than Pixel 5 right off the bat but in amazon and other markets S20 FE is getting sold for 599 in snapdragon 5g version.
David Kim in my country (Sweden) it cost 900$ for the 5g version and if u get the non 5g version u get the 990 that sucks.

In India the phone is priced for 599 USD for 990 exynos LTE version which I think is a very good deal considering there is no 5g in India as of now

after using s10+ for almost a year and half, i can comfortably say i cant go back to stock android, little features like one handed mode, bixby routines, dex when i have to use android apps on my pc, secure folder, edge screen make samsung phones wholesome package.
stock android does look clean but the features u give up over one ui are just not worth.
Also the earlier issue with Samsung software support is now resolved with 3 years of major software updates and 4 years of security updates.

From what I've read and heard in the past, Pixel phones have excellent camera image quality and timely and clean OS updates. That's it. Not reasonably priced too.

There is the 4a 5G for 500 I guess. Same processor, same image quality. Only 6 GB of Ram but stock android is pretty efficient with it. And polycarbonate instead of aluminium but performance and feature wise identical. Should be a great deal and still give a better experience than the S20 Fe.
Yeah the pixel really should have been cheaper. Imagine it for $550.

I would definitely choose the S20 FE atleast while it is $100 less than Pixel 5. Samsung's UI is not as bad as you think. Samsung Pay and Secure folder is awesome. But I will miss out on Google features like subtitles for calls etc.
I think Pixel 4a 5G is better buy than Pixel 5 at 200 $ cheeper and especially if you don't need wireless charging.

@Osama Anjum I think Dave as a tech reviewer is not a particular 'fan boy' of any brands, I've watch his videos for quite some time and imo his reviews are often based on user experience and the thoughts behind the scenes rather than picking a particular brand and praising it through the roof. I'm not sure whether he has no access to Sony phones or what but if you search on his channel you can't really find any reviews on them so yeah I agree that he most like won't review the Xperia 5 II

I've had my FE since Wednesday, got it from BB for $100 off, and I took it camping this weekend. It took beautiful photos all weekend, had lots of battery life, did well in low light around the campfire and took excellent videos of us playing frisbee. In my opinion, compared to the Pixel 3 it replaces, the only real sacrifice was in the front facing camera. Everything else seems like an upgrade. I use nova launcher, so I haven't noticed very much difference in UI.
I get my FE this week. I have a pixel 3XL and am trading it in so the FE is only 200 bucks. i hope im happy wiht it. Im so used to the pixel OS instead of one ui.
Why get pixel 5: camera and longer updates support.
Why get S20 FE: nearly everything else, even price.

Price. Depends where. In Ireland Pixel is cheaper about €110. With bonus Bose q35 II smashing S20FE 5G. You can sell Headphones for €180/190 easy. Than Pixel is about €300 cheaper than Samsung.

The Pixel does have the added benefit of an aluminum back and a flagship design but that's it.
