cant tell if sarcastic, but they have been. on every release they note that theres no headphone jack, no expandable storage and no charger. they arent ignoring it, but this is where the industry is going, and its not like they can fight decisions that have already been made, people have to use their wallets to convince companies to change, and most people cant be bothered to do that so companies will continue doing as they want for the most part.

Unlike literally everyone, I really loved the curved display on my S9. I wanted to switch to S21 but now I'll go with S20, it's also cheaper and that's a really good bonus!
Curved display is not practical (more fragile, more expensive to repair, screen distortion on edge, accidental touch when holding, compatibility issues with apps that use controls on the edges, etc....), the only thing good I can think of, is it looks cool.
@@kaze-xo doesn't seem to be true. I have been using my first curved screen phone since the last year now. I haven't noticed any distortions along the edges, and since I use my phone along with a case (as will be the case with about 95% of the users) there have been no accidental touches either. Even when using it without the case, I haven't had any accidental touches.

Personally, a premium phones don't need to be glass. Everyone said the same thing about curve screens, now everyone (reviewers) are back tracking saying they want flat screens.
2010 iPhone 4 was glass and that was subsidized at $300. Glass has been associated with being premium for YEARS. No excuses NOT to use glass in flagship phones.
@@PSYCHOV3N0M and don't forget a flat screen and square design that now everyone wants back. I really don't get reviewers sometimes. D2D isn't that bad but most of them are back tracking from what they said in the past on what they like about "premium" phones.
No headphone jack, no SD slot, no holeless screen, just like the S20...I'm genuinely disappointed ...... Oh wait, there IS a change, the S21 has no charger.
First time I watch one of your videos. I love the way you communicate to the viewers. It's very simple yet precise and so relaxing to watch. Very clear and to the point. Will subscribe.
I really don't get this premium = glass, it's fragile. People think it's expensive because that's how they marketed it. Glass isn't anything special it's everywhere. It's not gold ffs. People react to glass finish like it's diamond. There's like hundred glass items in your house, doesn't matter gorilla glass or dinasour glass, we have all seen Jerry rig's video. Glass is glass.
i get it because it looks and feels nicer than plastic on average and people care about aesthetics but i never feel my glass backed phone anyway since i usually have a case over it so im kinda either/either
I think that the iPhone was using a camera with a really wide lens, since I noticed minor distortion in the grid on the ground. I have no idea if I am correct though.
Thank you very much. I can always relay on you to give an honest review. You look at the product both as a normal consumer and also as a enthusiast and give the best balanced final decision.
It can't be only me that feels smartphones have slowed in innovations, and new technology. Maybe we're at a point were it's difficult to further improve the tech we already have. I have an S9, and there is simply no incentive for me to spend money on any new phone, no new features that are a game changer. Maybe samsung is right, and the future resides in foldables, we'll have to wait and see what will be the "next generation" of phones
I mostly agree. I have an S8 and gonna upgrade to the S21 Ultra. I definitely dont think I need too but my battery health is only at 74% so it's time for a replacement. Coming from someone who grew up when the flip phones and slide to keyboard phones were cool, I dont think that will be the big step. I think that's more of a sideways step. I'm not sure what the next big thing will be, but I'd say we are definitely a solid 7 years from it. 2 years from now it will be alot of refined flip phones and ones we see right now, but I think about 5 years after that will be the real innovation. Maybe rollables (but I dont see them being too practical)
Due to my employer. I have had used the S8,S9,S10 and then in Summer 2020 the S20 for my company phones. Whilst i think the S8 and S9 are still solid phones to date (my g/f still rocking a S8 and its still responsive) - i think Samsung for me peaked with the S10. It's so compact, easy to hold. The triple cameras are amazing (that ultra-wide is something) and the battery life is great. The S20? disappointment. That exynos CPU (EU here) in that one was so bad. Just listening to spotify over BT warms up the phone a bit as if you were doing something more cpu intensive. Battery life is pretty bad and i felt like the camera system didn`t even upgrade over the S10 if i compared it. 120hz was a bit of a joke since that decreased battery life even more (2.5hr SOT) but only gave you 1080P in RUclips (noticible) - the Snapdragon version was a lot better but not available for us in the EU. I can still wholeheartedly recommend an S10 for people that don't want to spend that much money and want to have a good solid phone.
Samsung: "No microSD slot" Me: "Oh so did you switch to a faster UFS card slot to take the faster UFS cards you made nearly 5 years ago?" Samsung: "Nope" Me: "Understandable, have a nice day✌🏽"
In the era of cloud storage and all time internet connectivity, the physical external storage had become obsolete. I guess thats the reason behind various brands ditching the slot.
@@rishabhmalhotra1542 Cloud storage and expandable storage is objectively superior to just cloud storage. Period. Especially when a UFS card would outpace the average WiFi connection in speed, latency and convenience. A cheap 256gb microSD card would easily handle high quality music and several 1080p/60fps videos and would probably undercut a 5G plan assuming you get consistent 5G in the first place. Physical external storage isn't obsolete, Samsung is just lazy. Cost cutting is nothing new for them. VERY lazy when they literally manufactured a superior external memory standard to replace microSD.
@@vncube1 great point, but I guess it could be a money making scheme too for different companies (not specially samsung) to sell more cloud storage and to sell high storage phones.

How much longer do we have to keep caring about cameras. Like you can't tell me that they removed the superfluous features like 'cheap modular extra storage' for poor 100x zoom. That's nonsense. I use the sd card slot for all my music, photos, and documents. If your solution is to get on Spotify or a cloud based storage service, then you're out of your mind if you think that's a more affordable longterm.
2:35 Not really. I've been using my S8+ on 1440p for 3 years now, then I switched to the S20 Ultra in 1080p 120hz. I REALLY have to look for it if I want to spot the difference. Otherwise it's easily ignored by my eyes.
Since google went to that back gesture with swiping from the edges, the curved display with a case that allows edge swiping, is the way to go. With a flat edge you get stickiness when swiping from the edge. I have the OnePlus 8 with curved edges and loving the back swiping from the edge. I agree, prior to the gesture navigation, curved edges were a gimmick 👍
9:37 you can see the iPhone video exposure flickering issues in the top left where the exhaust pipe is even in Dave's videos... I really hope Apple addresses this soon.
@Sky Gardener I just feel like sometimes they're just too focus on the small things and ignoring the big picture. 99% of people won't care about the details but how the image turn out as a whole.
Photos are very subjective and I think most flagships take good enough photos and these days with the ability to edit in the camera app or use a pro app any differences can be corrected to whatever taste you like.

I wish smaller phones were more of a thing, I hate big phones so much.

Prices you mention for the case and pen are still incorrect. Both together is 70 dollar. Not the case alone.
Me, coming straight from the MKBHD review, "Regular Black, Mate??"
Marques raved about the colour more than Samsung did on their presentation.😂
Maybe because there's not a lot of good news here.

Reviewers need to start calling out OEMs for removing features.... Remove the SD card and now charge extra for cloud storage. Remove headphone jacks and charge extra for wireless earbuds....
cant tell if sarcastic, but they have been. on every release they note that theres no headphone jack, no expandable storage and no charger. they arent ignoring it, but this is where the industry is going, and its not like they can fight decisions that have already been made, people have to use their wallets to convince companies to change, and most people cant be bothered to do that so companies will continue doing as they want for the most part.
@@Varocka They have a big focus on these mainstream phones and kinda mock and ridicule other phone OEMs like LG and Sony for absurd things like "Sony's design is old". The viewers further go towards fewer OEMs because well they are rated higher by reviewers

I really hope the s22 next year will be like the s21 Ultra. Higher resolution, better battery, better cameras, glass, and UWB.
I'm willing to wait
Unlike literally everyone, I really loved the curved display on my S9. I wanted to switch to S21 but now I'll go with S20, it's also cheaper and that's a really good bonus!
xiaomi mi 11 might be ur thing. idk if its available in usa though. so depends where u live
Is the 888 overheating with prolonged usage?
Curved display is not practical (more fragile, more expensive to repair, screen distortion on edge, accidental touch when holding, compatibility issues with apps that use controls on the edges, etc....), the only thing good I can think of, is it looks cool.
@@kaze-xo doesn't seem to be true. I have been using my first curved screen phone since the last year now. I haven't noticed any distortions along the edges, and since I use my phone along with a case (as will be the case with about 95% of the users) there have been no accidental touches either. Even when using it without the case, I haven't had any accidental touches.
I'll stick to my S10 plus. headphone jack , good battery life and adequate camera. Phones are going downhill if this keeps going.
Better display sd card support you missed
Just upgraded my s10 to the s21 ultra. Would have kept my s10 if s21 or s21 plus were my options.

Glass is Glass And glass breaks

exynos or sd888?
9:37 What is going on with the buildings on the edge of the screen in the iphone video shot?
It can't be only me that feels smartphones have slowed in innovations, and new technology. Maybe we're at a point were it's difficult to further improve the tech we already have. I have an S9, and there is simply no incentive for me to spend money on any new phone, no new features that are a game changer. Maybe samsung is right, and the future resides in foldables, we'll have to wait and see what will be the "next generation" of phones
Yup. Invoations wont come to smartphones much anymore. In a way, this is great because the health and buissness sector has seen alot of improvements.
Yeah folding phone really give you that special feeling
@@NL0Gwenster if you liked s10 then s20fe or s21 base model are pretty much successor
I have no problem with a plastic back, but it has to be reflected in the price. I pay a premium for high quality materials, and plastic just ain’t it.
Samsung: "No microSD slot"
Me: "Oh so did you switch to a faster UFS card slot to take the faster UFS cards you made nearly 5 years ago?"
Samsung: "Nope"
Me: "Understandable, have a nice day✌🏽"
In the era of cloud storage and all time internet connectivity, the physical external storage had become obsolete.

Dave, you're missing the biggest sell: THE SCREEN
the screens on samsung phones have been so good for so long i don’t think he even needed to mention it.
He praised the screen at 3:44.
I am thinking a couple of more years until a new thing about phones come out.. else we are stuck with it for a decade
@@saikrishnapulivarthi7647 you're not going to be using phones in this form factor in a decade

9:39 look at the building on the left, Wtffff!?
What about it?
Since google went to that back gesture with swiping from the edges, the curved display with a case that allows edge swiping, is the way to go. With a flat edge you get stickiness when swiping from the edge. I have the OnePlus 8 with curved edges and loving the back swiping from the edge. I agree, prior to the gesture navigation, curved edges were a gimmick 👍

The train picture comparison, even though there's more detail in the clouds for the iPhone I find the galaxy photos look much nicer.
Yeah the iPhone was really dowdy looking
3:13 "As a reviewer.. you can't ignore it".
