Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.. I'm thinking about buying a rod or two and hit the shore, let's hope I'll get fish and not the swimmers (just kidding)😂
Another common name for this knot is the " knotless" knot. It's only good for making leaders and can not be tied to your main line. I use it almost exclusively when making leaders. It's also very good for making hook links and hair rigs for carp fishing
0:08 what is the contrast power level of that 50 pound leader line which is monofilament and which is in his hads with a metal hook in his left arm . and all that on a black background on youtube with some subtitles for people who cant hear im glad im can hear so i don't need them but im glad it is usefull for someone because if they cant hear they can read which is good
This is pretty much how I tie all of my hooks, fast effective and strong. I generally do 6-10 wraps depending on line size. I started using this type of knot when I was making up 30 pickerel rigs up at a time and needed something fast, easy, repeatable and strong.
Great tutorial, but you forgot to mention one very important thing. I noticed it right away the way you were wrapping. On a lot of hooks that I buy. On the eye of the hook. There is a tag end in the eye on most hooks that wraps around and back into the hook. You don't want to have your first wrap start on that side of the hook. Your line can get pinched in there and become a weak point. To avoid this, just wrap the other way around the hook.
@@JustTheLip I generally agree ... but inconsistencies in the lubricity of a saliva sample may make coils in the knot tighten down unevenly, which could actually decrease the knot strength. Urine is a much more consistent and preferred lubricant.
Examine that snell and see how that knot will loosen up. After pulling it tight then push back on the tag through the eye and the knot will come loose. Spent a half day trying to tie that on 5/0 circle with Berkley Big Game 40 lb. Can't be trusted to stay tight. IMHO!

Is it embarrassing that I can’t tie s*? But I love fishing 😭. I be watching videos, and feel so slow, and get worked up, because I can’t get it layered perfectly
Totally agree, always have done internally, the problem like as shown, is the line from the over wrap cuts across the join in the hook eye, any decent pressure it digs in at this join and cuts off right at hook.
I never understood the purpose of snells. With all the options available I'm not sure why you would want the body of the knot on the hookshank where sharp teeth can easily compromise the knot VS keeping it in a safer place above the eye of the hook.
It keeps the shank of the hook straighter with the mainline. Assisting hooksets. Helps the point of the hook be drivin into the fishes mouth. Vs " unhooking" motion that can occur with light tension or just tied to eye. It does help and worth a personal try.
The Snell knot is used when fishing with circle hooks. Watch Matt Watson on RUclips, he is a legendary New Zealand fisherman who explains how to tie it by using the curve of the line and running it along the back of the hook so that it catches the fish in the corner of its mouth. Google " Matt watson , Snell knot."
Don't snell a J hook with a straight eye. They work by pulling the shank straight into the fish's mouth. Snelling on a straight eye turns the orientation of the hook because the line exits out the eye at an angle and you don't pull the hook in line with the shank anymore. Go look at ANY pre tied J hook. None of them are snelled on a straight eye hook.
Thanks for watching! What kind of knot do you want to see next?

Would love to see a double san Diego jam and a crazy alberto!
I was making up some crawler harnesses I needed this
Heck yeah-glad this was helpful! Thank you for the comment! 🙏🤙
Why is watching knot tying videos so mesmerising?? Great knot tutorials, thanks!

Again....another fantastically taught/filmed video. Videos like this single-handedly legitimize RUclips.
Thank You so much. I do have severe issues with my hands, but you make this look so doable.

Can't figure out why that doesn't untie. What keeps the main line from feeding back thru the eye and allowing all the wraps to unravel?
It's important to start wrapping on the side where the hook eye is solid, not where it ends. That part is often sharp enough to cut your line.
Easy knot and simple
Best to lubricate the knot with either saliva or urine before tightening.
You're 100% correct… at least about the saliva part! Can’t say anything about urine though… 😅
No urine
@@G-xi6ibyeah saliva works just fine, plus you avoid getting arrested… 😂

I like to use both for lubricant, just be sure to use saliva first, I won't make that mistake twice

Problem with this way is your leader can't be connected to you main line

Rubbish way of doing a snell. Internally wrapped snells (Line under the wraps) are way better and neater.
You can tie these super fast and they work well. I have rigs using this method that I've caught dozens of fish on with no issues.

I do aggree with you though, it puts the knot near teeth. I would say it does have its uses. Depending on your target.

I think it was just a big hook for visual benefits. I only use it for offset eye hooks like Octupus J hooks.
