    Thanks a million! I have been using a sliding second hook but it was pissing me off...no matter how tight it was snelled on, the second hook would sometimes slide down and ball up the baitfish... plus, I've lost big fish because the second hook was pulled down hard and cut the knot holding tail hook.
    I've retied everything by your method. It is much stronger and presents the bait naturally.
    From Vancouver Island.

    Interesting, I always snell both hooks, I find it an advantage when fishing strip baits or whole squid, but I can see the point of your way with liveys
    Nice little tip video though 🙂

    Hi Greg. Great detail on how to tie thanks for sharing. I use the snell rig a lot but tie it directly to the wind on to eliminate the swivel in your rig for floating baits down. I have only ever down max 8 wraps around hook shank, will try your recommendations.

    Can you please make a vid where the top hook is tied first. I like to use leader to mainline via an FG when fishing for snapper around reefs, hence leading to a few snags along the way. The method in this vid will require a new FG to be tied every time a rig is lost which will be a pain.
    Cheers for the vid

      Since this rig eats up quite a bit of leader (100cm) it would be better to tie up a few of these and then tie them on to your leader with a double uni unless you're using a very long leader.

    • @gregswickedfishing
      @gregswickedfishing  Год назад

      You tie the rig and attach a swivel between it and the main line with the sinker above the swivel. No new leader required. cheers

    this is what i use when bait fishing always, only downside is if the fish has a chance to break the bottom hook if it has teeth. But that's fishing for you

    • @gregswickedfishing
      @gregswickedfishing  Год назад +2

      yes that is a downfall and it pays to regularly check the line has no nicks or cuts in between fish. This is where ganged hooks comes into its own but is less natural.

      I missed a good catch yesterday morning because I didn’t check my line by the hook after catching a small mouth bass! The line broke by the hook!
      I switched to braided line for the leader!

    To catch half and one kg sea bream what type hooks are better circle semi circle or what type ?

    • @gregswickedfishing
      @gregswickedfishing  Год назад

      depends on your style of fishing. Circle hooks work well but you need to learn not to strike but rather slowly apply pressure to sink the hook.

    I prefer the top hook be sliding…by creating a snell with a separate line. That way you can adjust as needed.

      This kind of rig seems good with a sliding barrel weight on your main line, then a bead is put on before you tie the main line to a swivel. Then you tie the leader onto the other end of the swivel. essentially a fish finder rig.

  • @user-sg8kq7ii3y
    @user-sg8kq7ii3y 7 месяцев назад +2

    Pretty good; however, this rig isn't adjustable. There's a sliding rig, where the front hook can slide, making it easy to adjust for different bait sizes.

  • @mrBDeye

    This is not a proper snell knot. If it were done correctly there wouldn’t be line crossing over the wraps.

    • @TheIconicFisherman
      @TheIconicFisherman 10 месяцев назад +4

      It works the same way as a regular snell knot so it doesn't really matter either way. I have used both the traditional snell knot and this knotless snell as it's called and I haven't seen any difference in performance. Other than the fact that the knotless snell seems to be stronger due to the fact that there are no pinch points in the knotless snell.

    Hello, just an FYI, your 1st knot is not a Uni Knot. It is an Improved Clinch or a Trilene Knot. 12-15 wraps seems like way too much overkill. 7 or 8 should be fine to me. And your snelled knot is called a Uni Snelled Knot. Just so you know. 😊😊😊

  • @howzit5406
    @howzit5406 8 месяцев назад

    One thing I don't like with this snell is that the line ends up sitting over the twirls. I prefer to use a tiny straw to wrap the twirls around and pass the main line back under through tthe straw. This is complete bullet proof

  • @Thisislivinbarry84

    No good if your leader is tied on first, like 99% of decent fishermen would
