    Thanks a million! I have been using a sliding second hook but it was pissing me off...no matter how tight it was snelled on, the second hook would sometimes slide down and ball up the baitfish... plus, I've lost big fish because the second hook was pulled down hard and cut the knot holding tail hook.
    I've retied everything by your method. It is much stronger and presents the bait naturally.

      I lost fishing time on two sliding snell rigs today as the knot loosened after a couple of catches and was no longer effective. Will give this a try next.

    Thank you very much. Crystal clear description and videoing.
    Allow me to ask a clarification for the knot of the second hook:
    Initially you feed the line from the back of the hook (if I am correct) and then start wrapping.
    The final feed (pass through the hole) of the line goes again from the back of the hook or the opposite side?

      I'll be trying this tomorrow morning. From what I'm seeing, the line passes the eye from the back... Maybe because of the angle the eye leans at, which is towards the back

    Can you please make a vid where the top hook is tied first. I like to use leader to mainline via an FG when fishing for snapper around reefs, hence leading to a few snags along the way. The method in this vid will require a new FG to be tied every time a rig is lost which will be a pain.
    Cheers for the vid

      @pakde8002 Год назад

      Since this rig eats up quite a bit of leader (100cm) it would be better to tie up a few of these and then tie them on to your leader with a double uni unless you're using a very long leader.

    • @gregswickedfishing
      @gregswickedfishing  Год назад

      You tie the rig and attach a swivel between it and the main line with the sinker above the swivel. No new leader required. cheers

    To catch half and one kg sea bream what type hooks are better circle semi circle or what type ?

    • @gregswickedfishing
      @gregswickedfishing  Год назад

      depends on your style of fishing. Circle hooks work well but you need to learn not to strike but rather slowly apply pressure to sink the hook.

    Hi Greg. Great detail on how to tie thanks for sharing. I use the snell rig a lot but tie it directly to the wind on to eliminate the swivel in your rig for floating baits down. I have only ever down max 8 wraps around hook shank, will try your recommendations.

      This kind of rig seems good with a sliding barrel weight on your main line, then a bead is put on before you tie the main line to a swivel. Then you tie the leader onto the other end of the swivel. essentially a fish finder rig.

    Pretty good; however, this rig isn't adjustable. There's a sliding rig, where the front hook can slide, making it easy to adjust for different bait sizes.

    • @gregswickedfishing
      @gregswickedfishing  2 года назад +2

      yes that is a downfall and it pays to regularly check the line has no nicks or cuts in between fish. This is where ganged hooks comes into its own but is less natural.

      I missed a good catch yesterday morning because I didn’t check my line by the hook after catching a small mouth bass! The line broke by the hook!
      I switched to braided line for the leader!

    a hook on a hair (carp thing) tbh i like a gang hook for dead baiting, also very easy. open eye, pass hook through, close eye.

    Snell knots were made for eyeless hooks, on modern hooks where the folded eye isnt smoothed off and has sharp edges, snelling a hook cuts the line, ive tested this repeatedly using different brand hooks and line. Its a bad knot. And if for any reason the line gets damaged the knot falls apart

    Hello, just an FYI, your 1st knot is not a Uni Knot. It is an Improved Clinch or a Trilene Knot. 12-15 wraps seems like way too much overkill. 7 or 8 should be fine to me. And your snelled knot is called a Uni Snelled Knot. Just so you know. 😊😊😊

    One thing I don't like with this snell is that the line ends up sitting over the twirls. I prefer to use a tiny straw to wrap the twirls around and pass the main line back under through tthe straw. This is complete bullet proof

    This is not a proper snell knot. If it were done correctly there wouldn’t be line crossing over the wraps.

    • @TheIconicFisherman
      @TheIconicFisherman Год назад +4

      It works the same way as a regular snell knot so it doesn't really matter either way. I have used both the traditional snell knot and this knotless snell as it's called and I haven't seen any difference in performance. Other than the fact that the knotless snell seems to be stronger due to the fact that there are no pinch points in the knotless snell.

    • @redtobertshateshandles
      @redtobertshateshandles 5 месяцев назад

      In light line it's weak.
      The knot slides on the hook and the eye gap cuts the knot.
      You need a nail knot in light line.
