I am new to catfishing and struggled to tie this knot. The way you tie this just works so much easier with my hands and I ended up with a knot I was super happy with! This video alone made me subscribe thank you!
I hate how evrey video looked so complicated but thank God for this video I'm in pain at how easily a complicated knot can be easy with the right demonstration
Fishing line ,monofilament should never use a flame , it breaks down and weakens the whole line as the heat dissipates down the line, your eye might not see it ,but it weakens it. Hell the sunlight / heat over time weakens fishing line
The overhand “Safety Knot” is called a “Stop Knot” or a “Jam Knot”. The Canadian Jam Knot or San Diego Jam Knot relies on the same concept. Haven’t seen it on a Snell until here, and it makes perfect sense! Thanks!
Finally a video with good camera angles, clear images of the line and hook, and a contrasting background so I can see exactly how it’s done. Tried this knot this morning on a 6/0 circle hook for surf fishing on the NJ shore. Perfect knot! Landed a nice Tautog as well. Thanks for the great video.
Great video and thanks for posting. Here's hint for those who want you use the safety knot. I find it easier to tie the safety knot after I put the line through through eye and before I tie the snell knot. I do this for 2 reasons. 1) it makes the tag end easier to hold on to when tightening by gripping the safety know with my thumbnail 2) I don't have to fiddle around tying to tie the safety knot as close as possible to the snell because its already there. I use this method more on light line than heavy line. Hope it helps.
You made this so easy - gosh, thanks!!!! I have been trying for three days after watching other videos, I did this perfectly the first time and didn't have to watch the video on my fourth hook. Appreciate you.
Thank you! Trying to convince hubby I can tie his hooks and lures when broken, rather than throwing away and buying new. He said he didn't know how to tie the knots onto the hook shanks, went to RUclips typed in "How to..." and up you came! Watched you, then showed him I could do it on a sewing needle! I have little hands with more dexterity. Easy peasey, wifey can do!
Finally someone shows how it’s done…but there’s 2 other ways also…yes snelling does increase hookup ratio and a more solid hookup …hats off to your vid 👍🏼
We use a snell knot on a straight shanked circle hook to fish for sockeye salmon in Alaska to increase hook-ups and decrease foul hooking (snagging). This is a GREAT video of a simple way to tie this knot. Thanks Tracker!
I agree with the gent from England, I always mushroom the ends with a cigarette or lighter. This mushroomed end will not slip through, like the knot, but easier. Good Snelling video!
Great video. Thanks for the info. Let me say that I'm impressed with the fact that you have the comments turned on. It's a great place to interact with fellow fishing enthusiasts. There are some very large catfish channels that have the comments turned off. For shame.
We will always leave them on! Like you said, it’s a great place for interaction, and also people actually teach us tips and tricks in our own comments sometimes. We’ll never be too good to learn something new!
I used to fish with my grandpa when I visited him in kentucky. We'd go out on his boat and target croppie and bass. He always used this knot, and I'm switching to it now because he must have used it for a good reason :)
I never have either, when I was a kid an old timer taught me a slightly different approach with perfect success. It increases your line strength.by 4- 5 times easy
This is the first fishing knot I ever learned when I was a kid and I did it the same way you did but without safety knot. I thought that I was doing it the wrong way bcz I saw videos of snell knot done by multiple ways but none like I did before until I saw this video. Now, I am relieved :)
Out of the hundreds of videos I have watched on knot tying, this definitely is on of the best ones I have seen! You made sure the line highly contrasted with the background, your instruction was clear and concise and you took time to explain the steps as it should be done! 👍👍👏👏👏👏 Great video, thank you!!!
Thank you very much for the knot tying video, I've just retired an plan on doing some fishing as a kid I just always used a overhand knot but I sure glade you showed me this one. GOD BLESS.
Great video, so many variations of the snell out there but this one is easy, fast and the tag line is on the inside of the wraps. Have to remember line through the hookpoint side. Like your insurance overhand too. Well done y'all
Thanks for the video. I like the fact you used actual fishing line and not small twine. I was able to see how the line reacted as you made your passes and tightened it up. I now see I was pinching the wrong area and was my problem.
I did this smell knot on my octopus offset hook - thank you so much Now I’m making a couple premade Fluoro leaders and on the end of the leader whAts a knot I should use that will leave it like a loop just ready for me to add my fishing line to it ( I don’t want to use loop rings or a swivel or anything like that )
great video got frustrated so many times yesterday watching other videos i just gave up and started tieing regular knots and lost a couple fish.. thanks bro
Straigt forward, good and simple video buddy, will try this knot for my hair rigs since it leaves a very similar "hair" on the back or front of the hook deepending on wich way you start it from if you dont trim it down fully, If it works well I will start implement this knot on my hair rigs from now on becuz it was way way easier to both tie and remember then the ones I been using so far. But no matter If it works good for hair rigs or not its still a great knot and video, Thank you and greetings from Sweden !
😀Hey thanks man, I've been fishing for 60 years and thats the easiest to follow video I've seen Have been struggling will snell knots since day one Greetings and thanks from New Zealand
Hey bro 😎 . That’s a cool little hint you just showed of tying a safety knot on the end of the tag line before trimming the tag . I have never seen that before but I will have to have a crack at that little tip . Cheers 🍻 , Woody NZ 🇳🇿 .
What about doing a multiple knot tying video. It would definitely be one to save and all my fishing buddies would like to have it shared, I'm sure. Thanks for the up close, slowed down version of this procedure. You rock.!!
That makes fishing so great, yiur own rig and line and tying on bait or lures, it's really up to us out there on the water.. Many times it determines whether we eat fish for dinner or not. But being honest the older I get the more I tend to throw him back in I'll keep him if I'm hungry
Thanks for the vid bro I appreciate it just did the knot tonight same way you performed it in this vid that's kick ass man for sure time to go reel in some huge blue and flat head cats for sure.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH WISH MORE WOULD BREAK DOWN TYING KNOTS WITH BIG HOOKS BRIGHT LINE SLOW !!! HELPS PEOPLE MORE THAN YOU KNOW MAY SEEM SIMPLE. BUT ANYONE STARTING OUT SEE YOUR VIDEO CAN LEARN FROM IT.

This VID just confirms what I think! It is quicker and easier than fooling around with one of those tying contraptions. Thanks!
In England, instead of tying your safety knot, just blob it with a lighter, it’ll never come undone. Good video brother.
A lighter to your fishing knot/line? Uhmmm. O heck no
Fishing line ,monofilament should never use a flame , it breaks down and weakens the whole line as the heat dissipates down the line, your eye might not see it ,but it weakens it. Hell the sunlight / heat over time weakens fishing line
I just use a fast super glue instead of a safety knot. I usually tie up leaders before I go fishing.
Heat the end of cut piece only. Melts to a little mushroom head. You dont heat main line at all. All my knots if i have time i heat the end cut pieces
@@sgtkrazykramer My dad used a lit cigarette. More precise and less invasive. Coughed until his last breath.

Thanks for watching! I hope y’all tear them up

I like that!
Thanks. So simple. Takes the mystery out of it. Now I'll save a few $$$ on snelled hooks and have a little extra beer $$$ ; )
Best how to on the snell knot yet. Thanks!
I appreciate that!
Just ran across your video about the knot and I will be looking at more of your posts
You made this so easy - gosh, thanks!!!! I have been trying for three days after watching other videos, I did this perfectly the first time and didn't have to watch the video on my fourth hook. Appreciate you.
I think I have tried every method to Snell a hook on RUclips. Your is by far the easiest. Thank you for posting.
Holds very very well too! I’m glad I could be of value to ya! Tight lines!

I appreciate that! I agree!
I thought I was the only one that tied an "insurance" knot!!! Perfect 👌
dcboyz83 it’s saved me a few times!
Great job 👍
Trying this knot out so that I can punch for bass down here in FL. Thanks, and tight lines!!!!
Thanks buddy I appreciate the demonstration! Catfishing out of New Mexico
That was the easiest to understand snell video I've seen. Prior to this I gave up trying to tie them. I think I can now. Thank You !!

Hey thanks man! Taking my boy fishing tomorrow.
I just ran across your channel and I don't even fish and I like the video If I ever start fishing I know how to tie the knot
Ive never snelled a hook this way but it works , nice job
Great video. Thanks for the info.

First time seeing it done that way... Pretty nice...
Excellent presentation. Best I have seen today looked at dozens. Thanks a lot.
Thank you for showing this in detail
Good demonstration of the snell not. Thanks
I really appreciate this video, brother. Getting back into fishing with a buddy and my kid after MANY years out. This really helps. Thanks, man!
Absolutely! Thanks for watching.
Hey man very good informational video. Thank you.
So much easier to see with large line and hook. He didn’t take 3 minutes of instruction and drag it out for 15. Great video.
I enjoyed the video dry much. You presented it in a a clear way. You got me, hooked brother, no pun intended
Lol glad you liked it!
Thanks Brother, A big help . you made it easy.
I used to fish with my grandpa when I visited him in kentucky. We'd go out on his boat and target croppie and bass. He always used this knot, and I'm switching to it now because he must have used it for a good reason :)
Excellent. This is (for me at least) is not only the easiest method, but it's also the cleanest looking. Thanks!
thank you for a very clear easy lesson on Snelling hooks. Wonderful
Great demonstration - thanks.
I've never tied a knot before. I will give this a try.

Thanks I'm handicapped , its a great video .I only catfish from the bank of shenandoah river.
What parts of the Shenandoah River? I grew up in the Newport area near Page Co. High School.
This is a very helpful video I will make sure to get plenty of use of it thanks
Great idea for safety knot ! Thank you !
I never heard of a safety knot before, but I will use it from now on.
My buddy taught me that a few years back. It’s saved me at least twice that I know of, both on 40+ lb blues. Just those two fish make it worth it lol
Thank you! I just did about nine of them and I feel like a pro
Thank you very much for the knot tying video, I've just retired an plan on doing some fishing
as a kid I just always used a overhand knot but I sure glade you showed me this one.

Great video, quick to the point.Snell knots don't need to be difficult or intimidating, they are pretty easy to tie
Great video, so many variations of the snell out there but this one is easy, fast and the tag line is on the inside of the wraps. Have to remember line through the hookpoint side. Like your insurance overhand too. Well done y'all
Thanks mate👌🏽 Great clip
Watched so many videos to get a good one, so simple thank you!
Good simple video. 👌
Outstanding presentation!
Thanks for the video. I like the fact you used actual fishing line and not small twine. I was able to see how the line reacted as you made your passes and tightened it up. I now see I was pinching the wrong area and was my problem.
I've used a different method till I saw yours. This is the style of snelling I'll do from now on. Thank you for sharing.
lol 10 - 15 of us that wanted to see it turned in to 617 thousand 2 years later hahah thanks for the knot knowledge tight lines
Good video, no cutesy BS. 👏🏽👏🏻
My dad thought me the same knot when i was 7 😁 i'm feeling nostalgic now
Great video buddy
Awesome…Thank you for a sweet video…. Could always use a Great knot

Great video. Thanks bro.
Thank you for explaining it so simple.
Third video I’ve watched and this is the best explained and best snell knot out of the 3 different ones I just tried. Thanks!
Flawless. Improved Snell Knot.
Great video. This by far the best knot for me in hooking bass. My percentage went up 99% hooking bass. Try it.
Thank you so much for this amazing video. I have watched so many videos and they are just too complex. Your demonstration is great.
NICE ONE COBBER IAM WATCHING FROM AUSTRALIA TIGHT LINES 🇦🇺 🙂
great video got frustrated so many times yesterday watching other videos i just gave up and started tieing regular knots and lost a couple fish.. thanks bro

(A New Zealander asks) What is the New Zealand snell knot?@@normanacree1635
Thanks for the great information. Keep em coming. Tight lines.
Mark Grant absolutely! Thanks for watching! Tight lines bud!
Awesome thank you for your knowledge
Nice pointers thanks
been tying that knot for fifty years. Use it for worm harnesses, minnow jigs, and leach rigs, best knot ever!
Superb video
Hey bro 😎 .
That’s a cool little hint you just showed of tying a safety knot on the end of the tag line before trimming the tag .
I have never seen that before but I will have to have a crack at that little tip .
Cheers 🍻 , Woody NZ 🇳🇿 .
I've been using a uni to snell, but this is so much easier! Thanks. Will add it to the arsenal and it will be easier to teach the grandkids.
Glad I could help!
Great knot and a great video. I always wet the leader material before I tie the knot. Haven't had one fail me yet!
What about doing a multiple knot tying video. It would definitely be one to save and all my fishing buddies would like to have it shared, I'm sure.
Thanks for the up close, slowed down version of this procedure. You rock.!!
That’s a cool knot 🪢 I just do a knot less knot. I’m a practice this one, thanks.
Hey Tracker,
I'm actually targeting Striped Bass in Long Island Sound in CT/NY but your video is the best I've seen for snelling hooks. Love it!
I appreciate that a lot man!!
Thank you, I was curious as to how to tie those hooks.
This is very useful information thanks so much 👍
all im saying is darn fine video buddy
I appreciate that!
Been tying my hooks like that since I was 8 years old growing up in hawai'i

Thanks for the new knot -- easy remember. It's a hangman's noose without the noose. Ha!
Thanks for the vid bro I appreciate it just did the knot tonight same way you performed it in this vid that's kick ass man for sure time to go reel in some huge blue and flat head cats for sure.
Perfect brother thanks that was clear and easy to follow.
Awesome man, that’s what I like to hear!
Seems there’s many ways of tying the same knot. This one works for me.
