    When you snell a hook onto your leader you are passing the leader through the eye of the hook and wrapping it around the shank. While there are many ways to tie a snell, Captain Tim and myself prefer this method as it is easy and extremely strong. This works on all size hooks and target species. We hope this video helps you catch more big fish and if you have any questions, please comment below.
    Tight Lines,
    Captain Mike

    So as a person that is obsessed with tying knots. I am a mountain and rescue expert and lifelong fisherman. I have seen hundreds maybe thousands of knot tying vids and demos. This guy did the absolute best job of showing how to tie a knot. Cudos to him and the video guy.

    already have caught a 30# Blue Cat off of these (going to try to get a 60#+ next year). ruclips.net/user/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 Definitely very strong, and sharp. Additionally, the gap is wide enough to actually hook a fish (not always the case with circle hooks). I purchased the 8/0, but probably should have got the 9/0 (they seem slightly smaller than other 8/0 hooks). Additionally, having the point in-line helps if you drift fish. I have yet to get a serious snag with one of these hooks.

    I am going to retire next year. I used to go fishing a lot with my son until he was K.I.A. in the Navy in Iraq in '03. I want to get back into fishing again for my retirement. Thank you so very much for teaching me a few things. Wherever there is a lake, I'll be there.

    In NJ it's called a "power snell". This knot will also prevent the line from fraying/breaking where the line rubs against the rough edge of the opening in the eye. It keeps line centered in the eye by tying to the shank of the hook.
    Thanks, Great Video!

    Would you prefer the snell over a loop knot when live baiting small white baits also? Or mainly slow trolling big mullet? Wondering if it prevents small baits from having more natural presentations? Also what length top shot of mono? Love the videos Capt! Keep them coming

    It's annoying that a lot of these videos for tying knots, when it comes to making a video, they use clear/invisible line to show the viewer. I find myself straining to see the small details, to learn it right. Use a thicker, darker, visible string with a contrasting background for the viewer to make sure he learns it right. That's the purpose of the video, RIGHT ???

    Ive been tying loop knots to my hook for snook. No wonder my hook up ratio is bad. I thought i had to use loop for live bait snook. Just nebie question though. Does that hinder the action of the bait

  • @mulletman49
    @mulletman49 5 лет назад +1

    Hello Captain, great video as always! Can you please let me know the name of the rod and reel that captain Tim had and explain to me how much top-shot mono he puts on his reels. Just trying to learn. I hope these are shimano TLD’s because I do have a few of those. Nice setup. Nice video. Thank you!

    • @ReelReports
      @ReelReports  5 лет назад +2

      JP - The reel is a Shimano TLD 15 which of all the sizes is the easiest to cast so it makes a great all purpose reel. And the rod is a custom 20-30lb 8 footer by Chaos Rods with a soft tip for slinging mullet far. He put 300 yards of braid and filled the rest with 30lb mono, so he got about 100 yards of mono on there. Check out our video on "Tarpon Rod and Reel" for more.

  • @kyle-qw5yx
    @kyle-qw5yx 4 года назад +1

    I just feed the line through the eye, pinch down at the lower end of the hook, and then make my 6 loops around. When you're done theres a loop where you pinched and you feed the tag end through that and pull tight. Much easier

  • @larrytischler8769
    @larrytischler8769 4 года назад +1

    The circle hook needs to match the thickness of the side of the jaw of the target species. There must be clearance between the point and the shank to fit around the jaw and it can not be too wide, or you will miss a lot of fish. Too much bait will make them ineffective.

    • @timoconnor9979

      I only use braid for backing with a mono top shot. I join the braid to mono with a uni-to-uni knot.

    literally the hardest way ive seen to tie this snell. go in through the back, wrap around the hook and back in through the back..horrible, this video had me going back and testing my method vs this. This snell should take about 30 seconds to tie if youre not on a boat, this method takes 5 minutes -_-
