    I found it difficult to tie this knot on smaller/shorter hooks. It also uses way more line than the regular snell. I've never had a regular snell unravel on me, so, until it does, I won't worry about it.

    That's a very interesting way to tie a snell. What I've done for years is use a tiny little drop of superglue on the tag.

    • @Fishingknotsfast
      @Fishingknotsfast  Месяц назад

      Thanks so much for your comment and for watching our videos !! Yes super glue has been a long time approach to lock the knots but depending on the chemistry of the glue typically Cyanoacrylates they hold but being exothermic reactions it may weaken the line plus making the line less elastic and can break under sudden strain , most deteriorate in saltwater over time .. but if we change rigs often it wouldn’t matter

    • @Elrond_Hubbard1
      @Elrond_Hubbard1 Месяц назад

      @Fishingknotsfast And all this time, I thought I had an original idea! 😆 Even though I've been fishing for forty years, I don't research much. Obviously. I use heavy mono leaders with large hooks for flats, and lately, I've ditched the glue for a small, heated screwdriver. I melt the tag to a nice molten ball and press it against the shank. You know how it is. Half the fun of fishing is experimenting. I always make a couple dozen rigs at a time, so it's not too inconvenient.

    Is it just me or did anyone else notice he did not pull the first snell tight against the eye like the improved snell? I tie my snells at home and use a pulling pin built into my bench to pull everything tight no matter what hook. I can see where the improved would be a darling to tie on a short treble. I'll stick to the way I know that works for me. Just my 2 cents.

    • @Fishingknotsfast
      @Fishingknotsfast  2 месяца назад

      Thank you for your comment and for sharing your technique! You’re right, in the video, we didn't pull the first Snell tight against the eye like the improved Snell. This was intentional to demonstrate the potential pitfalls and common mistakes anglers can make. Even if the first Snell is pulled tight initially, over time, similar failures can occur due to the rough edges of the hook eye, especially under the stress of fighting a large fish.
      Our goal with this video was to illustrate these potential issues and to show why the improved Snell knot can be more reliable in the long run. It's great to hear that you have a method that works well for you, and using a pulling pin sounds like a very effective technique!
      Thanks again for your input and for watching our video.

    I've seen some guys use super glue on the knot.

    • @Fishingknotsfast
      @Fishingknotsfast  Год назад +2

      That’s a good point indeed . Even though super glue or adhesives have been shown to reduce slippage in knots there are a few concerns . Such as long term chemical impact to the line polymers, glue that hardens stiff promotes cracking and nicks line … but ideally just test it and don’t reuse the rig too much is my advise … and most importantly don’t glue your fingers together !

    • @Fishingknotsfast
      @Fishingknotsfast  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for watching and for your feedback! Winding the line towards the eye of the fishing hook can create a slightly different knot structure. Some anglers prefer this method because they believe it provides better knot strength and security, particularly when using certain types of hooks or fishing techniques. However, the difference in performance between winding towards or away from the eye is generally minimal and subjective, so it ultimately comes down to personal preference I would say ..

    • @Fishingknotsfast
      @Fishingknotsfast  Год назад +3

      Thank you for your comment. Even though snell was develop for spade end hooks that are eyeless. These was popular in the olden days where many hooks does not have eyes or hole in it that you can pass a line through. These hooks mostly popular with flies for fly fishing . Most of today's hooks have eyes on them. However the snell is still very effective for such hooks and might be the only hooks you have in your tackle box. and if you have circle hooks and octopus hooks the snell is Perfect. Snell allows for better Hook Sets when used on an Octopus hook , circle hook as it turns into the lip of the fish . Without a big knot above the eye it prevents the rig from catching debris or weeds along the bottom of the water. However when fishing toothy fishes you need to be careful and perhaps use this 'INSURANCE' Knot for safety: ruclips.net/video/suwRsxB1G0E/видео.html

    • @k9er233
      @k9er233 9 месяцев назад

      This knot is the most effective knot used worldwide by carp fishermen and catfish fishermen on straight eye hooks to angle the hook inward as it is shown here. Angling the hook inward the way this knot has been tied in the video allows the hook many times more chances to catch the lip of the fish, much the same way that a circle hook grabs as it is passing by the corner of a fish's mouth. This method using the straight hook with this snell knot even allows a hookup when a finicky fish picks up the bait and attempts to quickly spit the hook before the angler can react or even feel the pickup, catching the lip on the way out allowing many more possibilities for a hooked and landed fish than the typical, non-snelled knots that are more commonly used with straight eyed hooks, like the Palomar and clinch types. This video is a perfect illustration of the use of this snell on a straight eyed hook.I have had much better success using this exact snell tie on straight eyed hooks for bait fishing than either turned up or turned down eyes since I started to tie up this way. It has been working so well for me since I started using it that I will be incorporating this method when I go after Leopard Sharks this fall on the coast. This video was not a mistake. The poster got it exactly right.
