    Just got one of those planing stops for my birthday and was wondering how I was going to get it installed in my bench, especially the rounded parts. You gave me the solution to that part. Thank you. Love your work.

      Look around more, cleaner installs.

    Excellent idea. I've been using screws as a stop on mine. I have a pair of those aluminum stops that I was planning to use on a board devoted to thin, flat components but your removable/removable fence means they could do double duty on a board for mouldings too.

    Nice work. I'll probably add this one to my make one later list like you did 😂
    I really should start picking up some moulding planes. Maybe I'll build the sticking board as motivation.

    I also made a sticking board this week.
    I know I'll end up using it more for rabbets and groves, than I will for mouldings

      Sweet. They tend to be used more for that. For some reason. Enjoying really make a lot more rabbits and grooves than we do. Interesting shapes.

      thanks for the tips to this channel. I might need to make it also. "Rabbets for rabbits", sounds interesting :-)

    I have made several sticking boards for sash bars and rather than dowels to fit fog holes mine have s batten under the front edge. I just clamp this in the vice. The batten runs the full length of the board providing lateral support against the front edge of the bench.

    Pretty slick! Any excuse for me to buy a couple of the flip-up dilleos.
    Got a favorite size file for touching up a 3/4" Wood Owl bit? (The 3 curved shaped cutters, still cuts but nicked a screw)
    ps: from now on, you and everyone else, is to start every low angle plane video with "don't drop your Norris adjuster".

    This is quite s good idea but a couple of improvements have occurred to me.The first is in drilling the holes for the fence. Rather than attempt to repeatedly and accurately mark out the holes in the bed these could be spotted through the fence with the auger.. The other is the end stops. If the end of the board were thickened with a block laminated under the end one could use wooden dogs which are cheaper and will not damage a plane iron.
    The zinc stops that were installed on this board could have accommodated much larger screws and given the impact at the start of each planing stroke and the fact that the stops were not supported at the rear I am sceptical as to the longevity of the installation shown.

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  2 года назад +1

      That is true. After I put it together. I thought about using the fence as a guide and wish I had but I don't think it would have made that much bit difference. It would just saved a lot of time. As to the stops, the shaft that goes down through the board is what carries the horizontal force. The screws do not hold any of the force. They just keep it down.

    Well, that makes my piece of 3/4 ply with a flat head screw at the end look pretty pathetic James. Now I'll have to get busy and catch up. Thank you for a better example to follow.

      It stock so that you can "stick" moulding profiles

    • @Devon.Martin
      @Devon.Martin 2 года назад +1

      @@MatthewBuntyn okay, thanks. Is it because thin stock in mouldings needs to be supported in multiple directions or else it bows?

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  2 года назад +2

      it holds thin stock that is too small for the vice. commonly used for molding and trim sticks to Be placed on furniture. I talk about it a bit more in the how to version.

    • @MatthewBuntyn
      @MatthewBuntyn 2 года назад +1

      @@Devon.Martin Moulding planes are held at angle. Without the rear support, the moulding stock would slide away from you.

    I imagine, in a week or a month or so, I'll forgive you for that, "joke" maybe. Ha Ha. I watched this with profound interest because I wasn't familiar with what exactly a sticking board is. Imagine how desolated I was when I learned what it was and learned that I didn't need one because I can achieve the same result with my bench, a piece of wood, and a piece of plywood. I have a full-width end vise with two screws, I often clamp a scrap in it to act as a planing stop. I can add to it by clamping a wide piece of plywood to the opposite edge of my bench as a long "side stop. The video was, nevertheless, fun to watch. and I did learn a few things. Thanks.

    Would a cleat on one end help to keep it on the bench?

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  11 месяцев назад

      That is what the pegs underneath her for. Rather than having one cleat on the end it's a little more convenient to have two points of contact over something so long.

    Honest question, why wear a mic in your videos if you aren’t narrating in-depth. As a primarily headphone viewer it’s a whole lot of heavy breathing in your vids 🤷🏻‍♂️
