Gary, Indiana is one of the saddest, most hopeless cities I've ever seen. It looks like a city from Fallout and everyone who lives there has pretty much given up. My grandmother has lived there since the 1960's and refuses to move. We fly there once a year to visit her and stay for about a week. If it wasn't for the fact that Chicago was so close we would've stopped going years ago.

Love seeing the unique architectural in many of the neighborhoods. Some narrative on the history of the neighborhoods would really bring it up a notch. I grew up in Detroit an recognized many of the homes as Detroit style homes
Yeah I always feel bad for those kids. They can't help growing up in that environment. But still, I'm glad they are alive despite living in that situation. They could have just as easily been aborted. They have a chance.
What's really sad is that in some of the older cities like Philly, Camden, NOLA and Brooklyn, you can tell those apartments and rowhouses used to be nice at some point in their history
Every building decays and was once "nice"... Every city in America has to demolish old buildings and rebuild them for the city to continue to look fresh.
I'm from Birmingham al and we dont have a pro NFL team and bham is still in the top 10 most dangerous cities in the us. 205 all day biiiitch birmingham northside
If these black kids were more interested in getting an education and making something then they could get out with the opportunities they have. The parents are to blame. No father. No kid in Baltimore can do math or read. But they are all going to be rap stars or play in the NBA. And somehow this is all my fault. They like it there, let them have at it.
I wonder why that woman was crying so hard in New Orleans...that broke my heart 💔 I've been to all of these cities except Los Angeles. Very well made documentary. You did a really great job 👍I'm right outside of Bmore.
As someone thats done Lyft in Baltimore I was all like "Wait for it, wait for it." Theres so much more he could have shown here. Looks like he only did rt40 in SW Baltimore and Pigtown. Left a lot on the table.
That's St John's Ave during the winter. Not that bad. But he could have went to Brownsville or East NY and definitely seen more. Props to the video poster for driving through all these cities though. I'd never go
Big World Productions At least when you live in the hood in Brooklyn, you can hop on the train and be somewhere better in no time. In a lot of these other cities, you're isolated and if you have no car, you're stuck! I've lived in the hood in Brooklyn and it's paradise compared to some other cities!
Exactly our houses and Brownstones are worth millions and billions.... people dream of living here (not saying it is not overcrowded, amongst other things) Brooklyn should not be on this list. Go inside those brownstones in Brooklyn. Show that. Smh.
Lived in Philly my whole life in those very blocks very accurate. So glad I was able to get out🙏🏼 many for some reason it’s very hard to leave it’s like it’s own world
The nice cars are the men that come there to er...’help’ some poor single Mom or they belong to a person that actually works enough to not be able to escape the hood, but can at least run errands comfortably
You can get your new pair of shoes, you can pay your cellphone..but you can't take pride in your own yard/house. You can wash your car almost everyday to impress people. But you can't get rid of that 30 year old couch sitting on the side of your house.....
I'm sure a great percentage are depressed dealing with trauma and ptsd, along with destabilizing issues of the home. That can affect focus and the time you have. Why care about something like that when it feels like the world is against you.
Just because there's a car parked outside somewhere... doesn't mean the person - you think - that lives in the building - you might think - is a house owns it? is that such a killer concept?
There's literally a curfew mandated by the mayor as we speak to try and curb the violence. No one under 18 allowed out past a certain time. There are multiple shootings nightly. Crazy shit. Don't underestimate jacktown. I'm from Mississippi. Live about 12 mi from Jackson. There's places down in there no one with a sane mind will go even in broad daylight. I've been in a few of them and never wish to go back.
I'm from Gary, IN. Born and raised. Not there any more as a lot of people with means have left. I was like #20? Whoa. Scary Gary is pretty bad, especially around Marshalltown, Aetna, or the Delaney projects. I have Baltimore as #1. I'm going to finish watching the video.
Good number of family & friends of mine live in Gary.... I originally was surprised it was #20 and not lower, but then I remember my last visit and saw most of the real rundown areas were demolished.... It kinda reminds me of Flint...
I already knew Philly was gonna be number one. I been all over just like Charlie, and Philly sadly takes the cake by landslides. I love my city, but damn it’s just way too different here.
What’s wild to me is depending on how you move you can go to some of these cities and never see these parts. They are so isolated. Some of these are progressive cities with thriving economies.
Tru dat. I wouldn't support this shit. The photographer won't even SAY a damn thing. Nothing about the plight of the people in these areas. Morons watching think whole cities are lije tge worst areas. It's like he's showing zoo pics. And ignorant people watching have no empathy at all.

There are a lot families living on the poverty line here in the UK but at least the local council and government maintain a certain standard of living with social housing etc. It would seem a lot of people are left behind in the US with very little support offered.
Here's the sad part. How many rich athletes and entertainers came from these areas and why didn't they reach back to bring businesses to these communities and create jobs like Magic Johnson did.
jazshas alot of them do, but the sheer amount and the sheer volume of people to help and the incredible amount of these neighborhoods all across the country, there is no way they will even make a dent. Honestly even if the government decided to make this their number one priority and spend tens of billions of dollars it would still take decades to fix all of this
jazshas it’s not their responsibility to uplift a whole city and or community that the people who live in, don’t care to keep up! Niggas can’t have nothing! White people look at you crazy if you throw a bottle cap on their streets, meanwhile niggas will have a whole beat up ass couch on the lawn next to 5 trash cans! Graffiti on the houses, busted windows, trash all over the streets, grass grown 5ft tall... it’s those small things that could at least change the look of these places. Besides, look at where it got Nipsey! Try to help the neighborhood because you know it’s rough and it be your very same people tear you down!
I was wondering, what if all these “busy” guys standing at the corner or in front of their houses would get together and clean up a bit. Grab trash bags and at least remove trash. I guess they are used to live in shit and it does not bother them.
I agree with him.Why don't these people who are just standing around start cleaning up thier streets a bit .A lot of them seem very angry and hostile .I myself wouldn't feel very safe driving or even walking around these streets at all .Honestly i would be afraid of being harrased or robbed .I am a white man but i'm not rich either but i would still be terrified to walk through some of there very scary hostile ghetto neighborhhods.
@@SoulofNeurosis Some conservative guy did that in Baltimore... Got some volunteers and garbage bags, cleaned up for a day. Media called him a white supremacist.

FINALLY someone said it!! Most people in this comment section talking about bs that doesn't matter! It's b/c of US racist history...what kind of people do you see in these neighborhoods? Black people!
@@oxrea I don't think race has anything to do with it.. back in the 40s and 50s the black family was strong and thriving. The dad went to work in a factory, and mom looked after the kids. Kids went to school and stayed out of gangs.. What happened since then? Your own government and greedy businesses started selling out its own citizens by getting rid of manufacturing jobs in the inner city, and leaving people to fend for themselves. Blaming it solely on race is the easy argument. There are plenty of poor whites in trailer parks and poor Mexicans too.. its your government that could give a rats ass about you and I in the end..
LOL it's the people who dont care about their neighborhood. The government isnt standing outside all day. The government isn't littering everywhere....
