I recall hearing a researcher say that some kids in LA are so affected by gang affiliation and territory that they had lived there their whole lives and had never been to the beaches. Just stayed in their own neighborhoods.
@@cesarleeroy5418 You're killin' me man. I grew up in Canada and we this never even entered our minds. We hunted and fished and rode dirt bikes and drove cars into the ditch. 40 years later, just nicer boats and trucks.

Thank you CharlieBo, I could watch your videos for hours (and sometimes do). I'm from the UK, lived in Germany as a child and then Paris and London later in life; now in rural England. I drove (with my then boyfriend) across the US for three months back in the summer of 2006. I never intended to drive through dangerous areas but I did sometimes get lost (and stayed in some very unsavoury motels - we were in our early 20s and on a tight budget!). Memphis and Detroit definitely felt like the most dangerous cities to me then. New Orleans was still largely devastated by Katrina, one year on.
Hey pearl that’s quite a cool story. Can I ask where in the uk you now live after such eventful and memorable travels? I only ask as I’m in the uk too and would like to explore America some day 😊
You are not kidding. Detroit and especially Memphis are some of the top most dangerous cities here. Haven’t been to Detroit, but I have been to Memphis. Chicago, Baltimore, Cleveland, and Philadelphia are nearly as bad and I’m sure you’ve also been through these places.
At this point Memphis is on another level. Hearing multiple murders and drive-by is just a regular daily thing. Also when they block the freeway to do donuts, police don't show up. You just wait until they're done with their donuts. Horrible place to live. I feel sorry for people who are trying to have a normal, decent, quiet life in Memphis.
A lot of closed stores, boarded up apartments, people doing absolutely nothing. Crazy thing about this, the majority of Americans in the inner cities live like this. 😢
In the mid 90s in Toronto a friend who was from Philly had family come up from there. They worked in social services and asked us to drive them through Toronto’s ‘bad’ neighborhoods. When they saw them they laughed and laughed and laughed.
I'm actually quite surprised that NJ didn't make your list once. I'm in Atlantic City, NJ. There's been 3 full blown shoot outs across the street from my house. I saw a pretty young guy waiting for police/EMTs after he was stabbed across the street over $9. He sadly didn't make it. All within a little over a week. Gun shots are basically a nightly occurrence. I trip over belligerent, aggressive, destructive, disgusting, drug addicted, mentally ill/unstable trespassers every time I leave my apartment. Regularly harassed for money. Drugs are sold openly without concern. Police turn a blind eye due to laziness, corruption, &/or what I presume is disenchantment with lack of accountability for the criminals they arrest. Why bother wasting their time & energy when they're right back on the block within 24hrs? Passive, that's the exact vibe within the legal system. The responsibility for escalating crime is left to the local residents to manage themselves. Police will do absolutely nothing. Even when it's directly in their faces! Not unless they're called to the scene by dispatch. What do police do when they see an active stabbing, shooting, a person being violently beating with a weapon? They nope right outta there. They'll speed away & wait for a call from dispatch before they return like nobody noticed. It's crazy to see with your own eyes! The violence has become terrible & it's sad to see the community like this. If you stick to the tourist approved areas you'll most likely be just fine. Stray from the designated path, especially at night, you might get into a situation you won't soon forget.
I'm in North Seattle, and I'm hearing shootings almost every night now. Last weekend, two cars a block from me shot each other up. I heard the Seattle rapper who was shot and killed. That was right next to me. I was in my room when that shooting happened and it was loud. I'd feel safer back in Iraq at this point. America is turning into a 3rd world country fast.
@@mattobrien3210 Just be careful you don't stray too far from the boardwalk if you're out at night. Especially between Boardwalk Hall & Tropicana casino. That's where I live. The drugs & addiction is crazy bad. People are outta their mind at night. Between that & Drug dealer/Gang fighting it's pretty freaking wild. I mean, honestly, you'll most likely be just fine. However, I wouldn't suggest taking to many risks after midnight by wandering into the non tourist areas off the Boardwalk. I live here & I don't go out after midnight most of the time. Not even directly across the street to the store. It's like those 24hr convince stores attract this criminal nut jobs. Anyway, update me after your trip & let me know how things went. Best of luck. You'll have tons of fun casino hopping tbh. The casino nightlife is great. The boardwalk is great during the day for activities. Have fun & stay safe!
You definitely do a good job with your videos, no narration, just the experience of being there. I used to repair hospital x ray equipment. I've seen some of those neighborhoods
If you say that about la idk what you think of Mexico or Haiti, Somalia, Syria or Pakistan smh do you know how much more dangerous the world is outside of America

@@jessetruck903I spent a few years living in housing projects in Richmond VA. The poor don’t get taken advantage of, we don’t have anything to take. We are given just enough, and the most destructive things are made available to us, so we can motivate you. Public housing, the drugs, the guns its all in effort to scare the shit out of the working and middle class so they keep showing up to work. People keeping going to jobs they hate, and expect less pay then their work is worth because they will do anything to not end up living like this. As an outsider looking in you only get to see the bad stuff. I’m a white guy raised in suburbia and I never felt a level of community like I did in the projects. Silverlake is chill but super hipster boujee. North East LA has pockets of pretty cool & laid back places & also pockets of hood too.
I know that feeling. I visit family there and the atmosphere gives you a calm before the storm. Which is hidden from view in the day. At night is when the blinds and uncovered and you see the real dark demon of LA. The reported murder statistics are very downplayed. Many murders are unreported. I live in what’s the cheapest (i.e. worst) part of Melbourne, Australia. Other Melbournians look down their nose at Melton, but it’s absolutely clean, safe and tranquil compared to some of these places Charlie goes.
It comes down to how you are brought up. As kids we didnt have a lot of money, but my parents kept a nice house. My parents also supervised us. We had rules and cerfews. People in the neighborhood kept there blocks clean and orderly. As my mother always said, “soap and water are cheap”. You look at the neighborhoods in this video, its nasty. Garbage all over. Way overgrown lawns. Cars parked on lawns. No supervision of kids. They are out all hours of the night and up to mischief. These people do not giving a flying Fk about anything. Zero self-respect or respect for others. And thanks to the corrupt bozo in the white house, all of this has gotten worse. His democrat buddies who are prosecutors and judges, offer zero consequences to criminals. So now crime DOES pay. You get a slap on the wrist, if even that. Its beyond ridiculous at this point. This’ll only get worse, unless we rid democrat politicians out of office.

I live in DC. I've been to every city on this list except Birmingham. There's a good part of every city and a bad. Generally,. if you aren't into the streets like the people are, hanging out, drinking, doing nothing, and not productive you wont have as much of an issue. You can easily avoid rough neighborhoods. I was in the rough areas and people spoke to me like any other person. If you're respectful and up to something positive they can tell. If you're up to foolishness they can tell. I never needed a gun or a knife in DC and people looked up to me for keeping people out of trouble growing up.
100% but it can still happen. You can get your place or your car robbed. Crime is a problem, but it's not like the wild west where you walk outisde and there's an automatic shootout.
I think race plays a big part, if you're black and walk through a black neighborhood that is rough its unlikely you will have any issue, you will blend in . May still get looks and stares if your face is not familiar but you just don't look back and keep walking
No need to wake up, just to avoid making the same mistakes, encourage young folks to go to school, get a nice job, work for your community. That is the recipe to get a nice community. Besides that avoid the family destruction, don't listen to rap/hip hop music, only encourages criminal behavior.

I've lived in a couple rough areas and there seems to be a misconception about what's a "bad area". People think they're going to go there and hear gunshots 24/7; get carjacked, robbed, see fights breaking out, etc. While that stuff does happen, it usually just happens to the people already doing illegal shit. If you're working a 9-5; use common sense, be aware of where you're going and what you're doing, you'll mostly be okay as far as violent crime goes. There's way more people just trying to get by in these neighborhoods than there are criminals. The tourists and out of town people who get victimized in these areas get the news coverage because it's abnormal. It's usually just the low life dealers/gang bangers who get involved and victimized by the violent crime.
Fr bro. Raised in south side chicago and while the wrong people do get hurt sometimes, 98% of the time if you mind your business nobody will go out of their way to fuck with you
I’ve visited Third World countries. I’ve also been through the rough neighborhoods in those countries. In all honesty, I feel safer in those Third World countries than I do in those US neighborhoods. Why? Those folks who live there don’t have a chip on their shoulders,. Never demanding a hand out and are deeply respectful of themselves and their neighbors. The hospitality of those people would warm the coldest hearts. And would give you their only meal of the day to make sure you were comfortable.
I feel safer walking in these grimmy neighborhoods then in any suburb. I know who to watch out for in the hood but in these suburbs??? It be the nicest folks looking for an excuse to shoot you.
Everytime I see one of the houses in Detroit, I think to myself, "Damn, there has to be one that I can salvage." Of course, I would need a job lined up before I move to another state. I've had a few pop up on my radar here in Boston, but everytime I try for it, somebody that's loaded bulldozes it and puts overpriced condos or apartments there instead.
You definitely have a lot more luck in Detroit than in Boston. Detroit is actually improving a lot near the city center so if you're actually considering it, look around anywhere within a mile of downtown because it'll be likely to gentrify in coming years. The worst parts of Detroit are further away from downtown so definitely do your research. Boston's housing market is 100x more competitive than Detroit

Camden is getting better. The main issue is continuous drug selling without consequence & drug use. In my opinion, Camden will continue to improve as long as these abandoned houses keep getting fixed and rent increases. Camden is surrounded by beautiful suburban neighborhoods a couple of miles away and is close to a lot of businesses & malls, my guess is eventually the drug dealers/users migrate to philly.

CharlieBo313, I find your videos (sadly) frustrating for this reason: the risks that you take on your own need to be shared by the so-called leaders who want our damn votes. In other words, a senator, representative, council member, mayor, etc. needs to come with you and face his or her constituents. Elected officials having to face the people who have to live in the "bad side of town" without the benefit of prepared remarks from a script or teleprompter is truly needed. Be safe, my brother.
The entirety of the LA clip is from Watts, specifically around the Imperial Courts housing. That area is probably the most ghetto spot I've seen in all of California. LA as a whole is so massive, you can't really judge it by it's individual parts. But when you are in a sketch place like Watts, you might as well be in the most dangerous place in the country.
@@johnbx2795 Watts and Imp. Courts are a consistent ghetto, anytime you end up in those areas, you know to keep your head on a swivel. South Central and East LA are a lot more difficult to gauge because they look relatively normal.

I'm a veteran both enlisted and after college ROTC I was commissioned as an officer and served on active duty. I've seen some deplorable places outside of the US, real poverty and these hoods remind me of those places, but they are right here in American. These "hoods" are almost identical to some third world country. The mayors and politicians responsible for these cities should be ashamed of themselves.
This might be a bit of an ignorant question from someone who isn't from the city, but why do most of these people hang around outside in groups like this? I always assumed drugs was the main answer, or is there more to it? And why outside rather than indoors somewhere? Is this due to many of them being homeless or are there other factors? Not at all trying to be rude or condescending , just want to understand.
Easy access to dealers if they gotta use multiple times a day and/or they're selling themselves so they leave themselves open to people trying to buy (especially around gas and train stations)
Mostly just nothing else to do. There aren't a lot of spaces for them to go. The alternative is sitting inside a house all day and some people just don't want to do that. At least like this they can be out with their friends. I'm not saying it's usually the best idea, or that they're up to anything good, but that's the answer to your question. "Where else are they gonna go?"
Your question wasnt ignorant but the replies were, has nothing to do with the bs these weird people are talking about 😂😂. Honestly we ask ourselves the same question like why do white people jog & enjoy being outside at festivals in 2 degree weather?? To popular belief from movies & rap music videos, drugs, homeless, & the comment section’s opinions are not the main reasons we’re outside like that. Those reasons don’t hold enough weight as to those being why “we be out” like that. We receive health benefits from the sun for our skin & hair (prejudice thinkers please don’t get upset🤦🏾♂️). Sun on our skin feels amazing, as if like we’re charging or this slight small electric feeling (maybe y’all do to, I don’t know). Vitamin D deficiency is false because our bioavailable levels are on point. We enjoy Mother Nature & we definitely don’t see a crime in enjoying the existence of Earth instead of being in brick buildings all day. We’re outside with our family & friends, enjoying life connecting with Earth getting in tune positively. People going to always promote the negative especially the ones that receive every info about these topics from news channels. Being indoors all of time is depressing to us but I guess some are made to withstand being indoors like being on lockdown in jail.
Honestly I’ve been through most of these cities, NO in particular felt just like home(Atlanta), besides the smell I was probably almost too comfortable. I went out riding through the city multiple times, even in the dangerous areas while my gf was sleep back at the hotel we were staying in on Bourbon. Memphis Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and a few parts of Florida all seemed chill but that’s just me lol, LA is definitely dangerous though, people there mind YOUR business, it’s not like the South where you can go unharmed long as you are minding your business
Only because of drugs. Hoods here are beefing hard just cus someone from 1 hood got smacked by people from 2 different hoods. Example Dipset and Trenton Park vs Walher amd AB
This is just a suggestion , now that all of these cities are on this platform for being the toughest cities to live ,now that we got that out the way now ,could we please stop the killing of one another we have nothing to prove let’s end the violence.
I get what you're saying but at the same time i have to say good luck with that, as long as envy, hate and jealousy towards each other exists that will sadly never happen.
I'm from Detroit and been through hoods all over the country, but I gotta say Philadelphia is like a third world country.. The overwhelming smell of a mixture of shit, piss, and garbage is something I can never forget experiencing in person. I've never seen so many junkies in such a small area either. People nodded off everywhere in broad daylight and used needles lined the curbs of the streets. It was like traveling through some sort of zombie apocalypse. No desire to ever return there.
Los Angles and New Orleans had the most dangerous vibes to it. At any second, some fool thinks you are a rival gang member then shots can start firing off in your direction.
Right? I lived in L.A. for 3 years (Carson and Long beach specifically) and I unfortunately lived in NJ for even longer and I found the bad neighborhoods in Jersey (from Camden up to Patterson) far far more grim and dangerous in fact, almost every “hood” east of St. Louis hits wayyy different than the ones out west
@TheWorldStageGeopolitics carson and long beach are their own cities. They are NOT LA. Long Beach is big enough where they also have their own distinct neighborhoods that are divided up. It is like a mini version of LA but they do have their own vibe. You have pockets of sketchiness and places that are relaxed with a feeling of "security". An example, East Long Beach is basically "white suburbia". Central Long Beach(Snoops hood) is more ghetto and low-income. Then you have downtown LB, Westside LB and North LB and many other tiny neighborhoods in between such as Wrigley, Los Cerritos, and Bixby Knolls that are all distinct and vibe differently. But again, Carson and LB are not LA. They are their own cities. LB have their own PD, Fire, mayor, port, etc. Carson uses county services I think but they have their own mayor because it's a separate city from LA.

Damn I’m going to AC on a bus trip 3 days two nights. I love the boardwalk. Guess I shouldn’t be out too late

I’m from St. Louis. It can be unsettling sometimes
😢 I got a doppelganger from st Louis called blue. lol
Seems to be a common theme here🤐
Growing up in poverty without any hope
They have nothing to do. No drive, no motivation, nothing. Same shit I see all the time near me in NY
Cockroaches doing what cockroaches do, not very hard to understand
At 23:07 the guy with the green shirt clutching his strap, be aware of your surroundings he on point 💯
Charlie must got that Utah carry permit 😂
Dude said you better be Uber 😂😂😂
Honestly I’ve been through most of these cities, NO in particular felt just like home(Atlanta), besides the smell I was probably almost too comfortable. I went out riding through the city multiple times, even in the dangerous areas while my gf was sleep back at the hotel we were staying in on Bourbon. Memphis Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and a few parts of Florida all seemed chill but that’s just me lol, LA is definitely dangerous though, people there mind YOUR business, it’s not like the South where you can go unharmed long as you are minding your business
Naw I would say Savannah more like N.O then Atlanta
El tipo montaba a caballo?
This is DC after gentrification. That's the sad part. It was worse in the 90s
And the ‘80s
Only because of drugs. Hoods here are beefing hard just cus someone from 1 hood got smacked by people from 2 different hoods. Example Dipset and Trenton Park vs Walher amd AB
Why is it called gentrification when Caucasians do it, and "cultural enrichment" when African Americans do it?
There is a predominance of the same kind of people in these DANGEROUS places. I wonder why? (sarc)
Farm living is the life for me…
Blaq ppl too but everytime a blaq family invest toma farm whyte supremist infiltrate and sabotage like they did blaq wall street
Klan land?
@@Thomao Guess you never watched Green Acres…
@dennistyler9852 It was syndicated in the 1980s so I know what that is. Now, my reply was in the form of a question. Got an answer to that question?

Land spreading out so far and wide, keep Manhattan just give me that countryside 😁
What bleak and oppressive land is this!
I knew LA would be number one. I can't believe how much crime I've witnessed first hand in the month that I've been here in this shit hole.
very sad to see. so many people who think they have everything, but really have nothing!
every town in england will be like this in less than 20 years.
More violent psychos in England
This is just a suggestion , now that all of these cities are on this platform for being the toughest cities to live ,now that we got that out the way now ,could we please stop the killing of one another we have nothing to prove let’s end the violence.
I get what you're saying but at the same time i have to say good luck with that, as long as envy, hate and jealousy towards each other exists that will sadly never happen.
@@themrworldwide preach my friend and I thank you so much for your take but what you just stated truly is the problem hands down.
@@themrworldwide As long as they keep embracing liberal core values the ghettos will never stop being ghettos.
Notice how in Birmingham everything is trashed in those projects except the air conditioners. Interesting.
Air conditioners I guess are life and death issue there
I'm from Detroit and been through hoods all over the country, but I gotta say Philadelphia is like a third world country..
How is Chicago that number one you literally got shot at in Chicago
ah yes, so cultural!
Los Angles and New Orleans had the most dangerous vibes to it. At any second, some fool thinks you are a rival gang member then shots can start firing off in your direction.
The area right behind 3:14 has new houses going for $400K to $500K... less than a 10 minute walk away.
As a Londoner (or New Yorker/big coastal city resident), $400k gets you a dingy one-bedroom apartment above a corner shop.
@@eastender_ No, these houses are brand new. They were built about 2 years ago.
I’m close to nature and I don’t have to worry about anything. Well, nothing like this. The world is going to hell in a hand basket.😢
I noticed that a lot of these streets in these cities are very narrow
I'm surprised, but happy to see no New Jersey hoods made it on your top 15. Great work with your videos.
He put la over camden or newark yall luv his channel though lies and opinions
Right? I lived in L.A. for 3 years (Carson and Long beach specifically) and I unfortunately lived in NJ for even longer and I found the bad neighborhoods in Jersey (from Camden up to Patterson) far far more grim and dangerous
in fact, almost every “hood” east of St.
@@remhk6672 Dude I lived there for over 3 years,.. I know the area LMAO….… and STILL .. not even closeeeee to the hoods out east
and Carson and LB are part of Los Angeles County bro - ESPECIALLY CARSON 😅… saying Carson is not LA is the same as saying Compton is not LA 😑😑
it is not DOWNTOWN LA but it is within LOS AGELES
@@TheGEOPOLITICIANGUY It depends on your city lol here in Chicago we won't let anyone say they're "from Chicago" if they're from a different city/burb in Chicagoland. Evanston and Cicero are very similar and connected to Chicago but Chicagoans will riot if someone from Evanston says they're from Chicago 😂
Wow! This was very interesting! I was wondering if Savannah was going to make the list. I guess not:-) It did seem tamer than the rest.
