At 17 minutes in you ask what do I think about if they made a law so they could just take them up and take them somewhere.
Plain straight like that, they could not get by with it in America. But there are workarounds.
If they were offered free fentanyl, no guarantees about quality, the same stuff they get now, and a free meal of some cheap kind, but more than and better than they now get. Also offer them a free spot on asphalt or concrete with some kind of roof, plywood, and put this place far in the countryside, it might begin to work. Free food, free fetty, free spot with roof; that'll go a long way. Offer it with a contract signed and fingerprinted digital. with a promise of no investigation of warrants except for murder or some heinous crime, don't worry if you have a warrant for 9 dui's and escape or owe an ex a lot of alimony. It won't be reported.
Now this place in the countryside needs services like any unincorporated community. Just make it like 200 acres. Lots of thin inexpensive asphalt, some concreted areas. Needs some convenience stores. A check cashing place. A bus that comes and goes a few times a day. A dispensary place or 2 or 3. A fire department. Water, and water spigots. free sodapop and snack food places, day old bread, day old donuts, protein bars, coffee. Some folks might qualify to work at these places. Have a rehab place with an actual building to live inside if they want to try reducing. A few ambulances. Just off the place should be a precinct of police who only appear if called, and do a once a day drive thru. Some ground rules easy to follow. Folks divided by number 1 thru 7 to pick up trash once a week so trash gets picked up every day... a moral to develop that make less trash and to use the many trash cans if possible. This community will need the infrastructure of electricity, and a power outlet at each "spot". Spots can be of different sizes for 1, 2, 3, 4, and a few bigger ones. A manager with authority of some kind to sort minor problems such as someone who might have a car wants it parked nearer to his or her spot. Stealing to be prohibited, but it'll happen because theft is their present economy. It is in some places for sure, such as in san francisco. But if someone has a real problem of something stolen, it should be required to return or replace it. The manager and police can make appointments for persons to go to a justice of the peace court. Court held once a week for somebody keeps stealing, they go to county lockup for a short time, and probation requires the person to wear prison garb during that time, and must not leave the community until probation is over. See, these people need to be decent persons as most try to be anyway. There could be sessions provided for folks to learn basic things. Public showers, public toilets, park bench tables, safe places to go to use those drugs.
So many more details, but there should be at least one of these places in most every county, county run with funding by county, state, and federal, plus donations. Oh yea, there should be a donations facility with a thrift shop of free and inexpensive stuff.
So yea, I think something like this might be nominated as one kind of solution. Something like this.

Up to 1965 or so they used to have work farms in most counties. County work farms had mostly unemployed persons who were offered to live on them, plus some who were bankrupt. I see this as similar, except modernized for the realities of drugs and the sh.. that goes on these days that didn't in 1948. Another workaround is partial: They used to have large mental institutions, several per state, until Reagan shut them down saying they were too expensive. I think shutting them down is more expensive. The shouters, paranoid, very low iq'd, and other types would be better off taken care of institutionalized. Some of these places were actually beautiful college like. Napa and Eldridge are two examples. What percentage of homeless would qualify for these places, I don't know, and experts would need to define the protocols. But mental institutions would certainly reduce the numbers homeless by itself. They could be run much better than those old ones, giving much more dignity to the patients. Doping them up and lobotomies no longer done.

Believe it or not, in 1962, my mother would take me "under the elevated" to shop for my Easter dress and hat. All kinds of dress stores and yard goods shops were there. Everything was clean. Bakeries and 5 and dime stores. There were no drugs in society (that we knew of.) But as a child, "under the elevated" was odd to me, because a sunny day would suddenly be in the dark. Give everyone living on the streets a large plastic garbage bag, a pair of disposable gloves. For a full bag of garbage, they go to a redemption spot, the garbage bag gets dumped in a huge container, and then they receive a new bag and gloves, along with food and toiletries, etc. Sounds simplistic, but it's a start in instilling care for their surroundings.

It is definitely safer. I do not see as many people all over the place. To me it seems like everything is in much better shape. I remember what you were saying about people being down near the tracks like that. Excellent camera work my friend!! Really crisp and clear images. You really give that area a good feeling despite the sadness and homelessness. I always try and keep a handful of dollars and fives in case I see someone who is begging. It takes either a complete breakdown of any pride and be on your last good graces or to not care but either way I am going to help one of my brothers or sisters who are stuck out on the street. Life is hard for everyone right now and we just need to be kind.

@@missymoon2831 I agree and thank you for being such a nice person because the world really needs more of that. It’s just I feel people need to be held accountable for their actions not blaming everyone else. You made a good decision not to deal with it and you were aware of the drug spot in your neighborhood. Probably peer pressure also. Most people had that same choice. Most of us started recreationally and others have different things going on in their lives. I really get it. My mom has been a crack addict since I was a kid and I’m now 48. Just don’t blame the government or anyone outside of your self except for maybe a situation where someone was actually taught as a child to do drugs. Other than that it’s your fault. Basically make better decisions.

Thanks for the update after the clean-up. I watched the clean up video and it was very amazing, but this situation is one that needs to be on the forefront every day every 2-3 days, every week ... because they will come back and start camping again. The city needs to assign a Kensington Ave team to patrol and clean up / up keep the neighborhood. I do wish that most of those individuals get help to stay sober and move away from such a devastating addiction. Once the area stays clean businesses will begin to move in and invigorate a neighborhood that has so much potential. I believe some of them can be paid to clean up the area and they may become proud of keeping it clean. 🙏🙏🌼🌼

People have to realize if you have an addiction you can only get clean if YOU WANT TO. They can force people into treatment but as soon as they get out they are going back to what drug they want. About time; I’m so happy such a great city finally got some stones. I truly hated watching the suffering in prior videos and hope these ppl get help and recover. It can happen, giving up on them is easy, being tough and helping them is worth effort when u see the lost be saved. Thanks for ur video.

In Skid Row today there’s between 7,000 to 11,000 people. In Kensington there was under 1000. And where did they move these people? Did they all get rehab? I doubt it they just moved them someplace else. Not so easy to clean up skid row in Los Angeles.

I agree with you. Take 1 of our abandoned warehouses and turn it into a forced rehab place. Take a 2nd and make it into a transition house so they can be clean but secure jobs so they won't be homeless after they're clean. We have too many people addicted to drugs and alcohol and way too many homeless. It's time to help our own people. Not send our money overseas.

I think that if I was the judge I'd sentence everyone to 364 days in county. And I'd make sure the only drugs in county were off the nurse's med cart. thanks for asking what i think. In indonesia they have the death penalty for dealer, and guess what? there aren't any drugs in indonesia, for a user the penalty is harsh but there is still forgiveness.

They just displaced the people to other locations and will be doing a cleanup in the new collective area in 2 years. I remember being able to walk in that area when I was young and feeling safe. Very sad situation. They need real treatment centers but I guess the issue with that is that those don't generate revenue, thus the city won't do it. If the did a cost analysis of treating the people and resolving the issues vs leaving things how they are they would see that there would be an ROI within 2-3 years. Yes there would be an upfront investment but it will payoff in a few years when people are healthy, clean and able to work and contribute.
Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there.
