Not surprising. Send these in for bomb threats, active shooters, to send supplies through dangerous areas. There's a lot of military capabilities for something that could mean less life lost.
I'd expect they'll develop a "living hold" mode, where it sways its body just a little bit, replants a foot here and there, and so forth, when it's not otherwise engaged in a task. That would be not only dissipate much of the creepiness he mentions, but more importantly serve as a safety feature to keep bystanders on notice that it's powered up and ready to do something so they won't just ignore it as they would any nonliving object like a rock.
It'll avoid them if it begins a task anyway, like he said we're just big obstacles that it needs to avoid. Performing unnecessary movements would likely have too big of an impact on battery life, too

@@zakiNBG I support the idea of the sled, since what matters are the added modules, it is possible to design a sled and make it about 4 robots that pull it. In addition, the whip for robots is also necessary, preferably designed so that the robots can feel it and we can see how they react to it.
This robot doesn't scare me at all, It makes me very excited. It's so surreal to see a robot this advanced, and knowing it wasn't possible a decade ago. I'm looking forward to see what exists in the next decade

@@J8den There's also a thing called a screen reader that can read the comments to him. Look into the Accessability features on your phone. You'd be surprised what's on there. Blind people use technology just like everyone else.

As an ecologist, I would find this little guy very useful to bring my lab equipment in the field. Right now the heavy stuff is stored in backpacks because cars can't really go deep in the woods. I think I would be way happier with fewer weights on my back and more batteries and sensors around. I wonder how long can Spot last when cruising, tho. Not as long as a donkey, I'm afraid (we got their help at some point), but being a robot it would be easier to bring around the country and store.

It's not like Spot blows up every obstacle with missiles or something. Just means it won't try to walk over you, also it's currently incapable of recognising humans.
It probably looks at you like "oh that's a moving obsticale that I can't walk on. I'll just find a way around it". And no it won't try to kill or hurt you. It probably doesn't know what you are. All it knows is where you are in relation to it.

I like how all the ways of controlling it are the kinds of things you see in games, from joy stick, to point and click, to setting routes and programing it, which makes perfect sense since they're both supposed to be efficient and intuitive

1) It's not about this one tool getting worked into our reality, it's about a ton of everything else that you don't know and don't think of about the way the world works for the past decades and centuries.
2) They will get rid of most humans in really painful ways, but you won't realize until it's too late because they will get to it in ever slighter tolerable increments, exploiting human psychology.
In the whole video I'm just thinking " what if my dogs do if they encounter with one of these. Fun for sure.

Would be interesting to know in what applications this robot would actually be commercially viable. Sure, it can do all sort of neat things. But at the cost of a car, it does have to compete with more specialized but simpler robots (like in a warehouse) and even humans. As a camera platform it has to compete with flying drones and multiple stationary cameras. And so on.

@@Naddel_ Robots dont need years of training once they have figured out the software, they dont require feeding and they dont poop and require clean up after pooping. I also want to say robots cannot get ill, but considering how often one runs into random computer bugs and crashes... I wont.
However, these robots must start recognizing humans first before we can even consider them for such a job.

I’d like to go back to a War centuries ago and bring a whole truckload of machine guns and rocket launchers. You could rule they world. Can you imagine the reaction of your enemies when you start spraying them with a 50 cal mounted on top of an armored humvee? Their reaction would be priceless.
