- Hello and welcome to "That's Just Prime!" and today we're taking a look at Robots In Disguise Optimus Prime! A.K.A. Fire Convoy!
Please leave comments, subscribe and share! Thanks for watching!
I almost feel sorry for Ultra Magnus..... he went from being "The Rightful King of Cybertron" to basically being an upgrade pack to the ACTUAL King of Cybertron
Jordan Lunnon LOL, too true! Thanks for watching!
LOL
It's not the first time he's been cucked out of leadership.
Yep, you guessed it. I have 2 of this version. But I'm still looking for two of the Sam's Club exclusive Yellow Version. One to keep mint in box and other keep mint lose complete.
Idk if you’ll see this Bert, but I have to say because of this review I bought this figure and I absolutely adore it. It opened up a new door for me in terms of RiD 2001 and the Unicron Trilogy, I only have to get Skybite and Scourge to complete my RiD 2001 Collection. So thanks Bert, you helped me stay out of trouble by finding another toylike to collect and for that I’ll always thank you and respect you
TF Informative Thank you for the kind words! RID 2001 was the line that got me BACK into collecting Transformers too! I have Scourge but I never did get Skybite. Good luck hunting!
Thanks for watching!
Hey bud, you may want to look at getting the Thrilling 30 Skybyte if you can't find the original. (IDK if you have managed to get the original now)
In Omega Prime mode I love that they used a Optimus Primal looking head
Thanks for watching!
I just realized that this guy's articulation is actually as good, if not, better than most modern toys.
Also, you can store the gun on the underside of the fire truck mode's front, it enables the "cab" to roll independently.
Thanks for watching!
All these years later this is still a beautiful toy, a fabulously unique take on Optimus packed with playability
Agreed! This is the figure that is directly responsible for getting me back into Transformers collecting!
Thanks for watching!
I remember I had that a version of Optimus one time my life except mine was a knock off it was yellow instead of red it had two left hands the ladder didn't fully extend but it did not stop me from having fun with it I cherish that memory to this day
Thanks for sharing that and thanks for watching!
That wasn’t a knockoff, that would’ve been Universe Optimus Prime. It was an official redeco of this toy in yellow. The two of the same hand thing was probably just a QC issue
Firetruck toys was a dream to have as a kid, a transforming one is twice the pleasure, and one that is Optimus Prime with sounds and gimmicks is triple pleasure!!!
Thanks for watching!
To this day I think Optimus was born to be a firetruck, it fits him SO well. I feel the same way with Megatron being a tank.
You think well of course he was ment to be a fire truck (not being sarcastic)
Thanks for watching!
This is my all time favorite version of Optimus Prime, and one of the best versions of Transformers I've ever seen.
Thanks for watching!
This was amazing figure when it came out and still is. Omega Prime is still one of the meanest looking Primes! Great Review bud!
Thanks! It's amazing how well this figure still holds up after all these years!
It's funny how, looking at this review today, of a figure that is what, almost 20 years old? and seeing some of the same engineering still being used in the current Siege line, namely the Ultra Magnus figure and later the Galaxy Prime.
BatFan1 Thanks for watching!
I still have this version of Optimus Prime when I first bought it at Walt Disney World Orlando Magic Kingdom in 2002 during my 8th Grade Graduation Trip. When I saw it, I knew I had to have it since I also watched the original Transformers Robots In Disguise 2001 anime series (also known as Transformers Car Robots in Japan and this version of Optimus is called Fire Convoy). I too grew up with the Generation 1 Optimus Prime through watching Generation 2 as a child in the early 90s and I was thoroughly impressed as to the many variations he was introduced in the later series to follow afterwards. You, my friend, are a truly dedicated Transformers collector! Till All Are One!
StrikeFreedom78
Thanks for the kind words! Thanks for watching!
Hey, Bert. Finally got my RiD Optimus. Absolutely love this guy. But Omega Prime is where its at! He's big and chunky and massive!
But that Optimus really is one of the best figures I've ever had. Sadly, mine has massive chrome wear on his chest, but since I usually have him in either Super Mode or as Omega Prime.
I got him as a bday present on December 7th. I have to find what kind of batteries he uses, as his are dead. Luckily, Ultra Magnus' batteries are still going strong.
Now I'm looking for the yellow version of Prime for normal mode display.
Hi Bert, always love your reviews, I never had this particular figure growing up... I had the universe recolor yellow version. Love this Optimus the most out of all of them, I felt this was the cleanest "solid truck mode" (Armada felt chunky, energon was a box, and cybertron felt too alien for a firetruck) One thing you never mentioned, and I had not checked the comments, is that in his truck mode, his gun slides under the very front to act as a wheel for weapon storage. I picked up RID Optimus and Ultra Magnus a year back, and I fell in love with the figure(s) all over again. Keep on reviewing! Cheers
Matt I did forget about that. There's so much to show with this figure I always forget something.
Thanks for watching!
My god, I got this guy and Magnus yesterday and just..... wow. I can see why these two are held in such high regard. I honestly am done with Optimus Prime figures moving forward, cause there's..... literally nothing that can top this duo. (Though MP10 is close, I do love the heck out of him)
It really is an amazing figure! This was the figure that got me back into Transformers!
Thanks for watching!
Would b nice to see a third party company do a modern take on this classic. I think I have like 4 sets of omega prime😬
Unfortunately; the tires rid prime n magnus are notoriously fragile and will split n crack😪
Or at least if someone made replacement tires for them 😁
Thanks for watching!
+Bert The Stormtrooper, the precise fire truck he is is a Hino brandier.
Subtle differences between hasbro's and takara's versions include their tires, hasbro's are weaker due to the rubber tires having a tendency to split down the molding connectors, Takara's are more durable in the craftsmanship of the tires (where he can be driven a lot without fray on the rubber)
Both ladders have their firing mechanisms performed differently, when you press on the Takara ladder it will cause all missiles to automatically flip up into firing position and they can fire/move all by themselves.
Hasbro's ladder has them all on individual triggers and they each have to perform an action on their own.
Steven Jordan Good info, thanks for sharing and thanks for watching!
Car robots is also what got me back into collecting. Such an awesome series. This might be my favourite prime. I just wish he had a faceplate instead of the beast wars look
Emmanuel Filteau Thanks for watching!
during botcon 2016...my mind WAS BLOWN by the custom version of this RID optimus figure. it was customized to look like it belonged in the combiner wars line
I'm nearly sure that was a cw defensor customized to look like this guy, ether way it was awesome and my mind was blown
FYI (nothing major) The little handgun you put on the back of the truck is supposed to be under the cab at the front, as a "third wheel" so the cab works without the base stuff
Jordan Lunnon No kidding! I never knew that!!! I gotta go back now and try it! Thanks for the info and thanks for watching!
Jordan Lunnon, Thanks for the heads up man!
No problem buddy, i was a major transformers fan when i was growing up. Though i often broke them, because i didn't bother with the instructions.... i wanted to discover them myself haha
Very nice review. Very detailed, even mentioning the handshake thing other references from the show.
Rid Prime is still my favorite. He's quite fun with his all his possibilities to combine and articulation.
side stream Thanks for the kind comment! RID Prime has a special place for me as he's the first figure I got when I got back into collecting Transformers as an adult! Thanks for watching!
Considering the height difference, when they're shaking hands Optimus would be staring at Magnus' crotch lol
In my opinion this prime is the best even the show in my opinion maybe it’s because I love prime as a fire truck
Angry gaming Studios Thanks for watching!
My oldest son gifted me both Fire Convoy & U.M. vehicles a month ago and your great video finally gave me the confidence to go with the 'bot modes...thanks tons Bert!
Glad I could help! I love getting feedback and hearing one of my videos was helpful! Thanks so much!
Thanks for watching!
when i was very young, i played with fire truck that transform. of course i didnt know about transformer. after 20 years, today, i remember that robot and tried to find it. and watch this video, i can remember all. i remember that back's feature, that ladder, that arm, that smell. tnx to your video
Thanks for sharing that great story!
Thanks for watching!
This is what got me back into collecting...as a side note i read in an magazine that came out when this was new that a guy who was serving in a fire /crash rescue unit from the air force legally changed his name to optimus prime as he too was a big prime fan /collector and his unit drove fire trucks fairly similar to this.
Stephanie Mckeever Me too! And yes, I remember reading about that firefighter and I've seen picture of him with Peter Cullen. He really did legally change his name to Optimus Prime!
Thanks for watching!
Bert The Stormtrooper You are very welcome sir.love your chanell...kudos to you for srving your country...i served in the irish army myself.was that guy in the air force or army?
Stephanie Mckeever ARMY, National Guard.
Bert The Stormtrooper yes that's him...i know i said'air force' but the more i thought about it 'army' started to come to mind....sorry for the mistake but it's been so long since i read about him...i can't even remember what magazine i read it in but 'toy fare' springs to mind.
Good vid man. I recently got this set. I got the red and yellow Prime, and Magnus. What kick ass toys. Magnus has such a great alt mode, its almost better than a toy car hauler, yet it does all this shit. Very fun stuff!
Thanks! They're awesome figures to own together! They do so much! Just after I shot this I purchased another Optimus figure so I can display both Optimus in super mode and Omega Prime together!
Thank you so much for this video
I am 21 years old now and this was actually my favorite toy when I was little
it was so nice and nostalgique to see this again
Thank you ^^
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Thanks for watching!
I’m 26 now... I had this as a kid when it first dropped. Damn the memories💯
The Notorious M.O.E Thanks for watching!
Bert The Stormtrooper 🤙🏾💯
I think I was 6 when this toy came out and I regret not getting into this show. I am enjoying watching it.
Mikey Patchy Thanks for watching!
i always display my omega prime with the cow catcher/ chest shield
dropped down to hide Magnus's legs, and it gives a more prime looking chest
Nice!
Thanks for watching!
Omega boots, because he doesn't skip boots day
-Emgo316
jazz Rejalde Thanks for watching!
Can't wait for Galvatron for Christmas, and the original Japanese version of this very Convoy a few days later. RID's toys always looked really cook, and why not get a few from the line?
Thanks for watching!
I wish the Transformer community liked part formers, they tend to make the best looking vehicle and robot modes.
Morrius07 ikr partsformers are awesome, as i build lego partsformers
Thanks for watching!
The best Optimus Prime when it came out.
Rugalheid Bernstein Thanks for watching!
I remember a friend had this guy and I used to borrow it along with Ultra Magnus from him. Man, what a ton of fun he was. So much playability. 😁
This is the figure that got me back into collecting Transformers!
Thanks for watching!
@@BertTheStormtrooper Fitting one to get you back. It is an amazing figure. 🙂
I love toys like this. It was meant to be played with and look like the cartoon and did bith of those perfectly. Just fantastic design you dont see anymore.
Thanks for watching!
I really like the RID line, and it got me restarted collecting as well and I think it was specifically Prime too. And like you, it was the timing also - when this came out I started university and worked part-time so was able to buy them when I had spare money.
Ronn Bot Thanks for watching!
You and me both dude we both have special places in our hearts for that figure it was my very first Transformer with Ultra Magnus so when I was probably four I had this house with my dad and mom and my dad had this bucket of cars and these two Transformers above the bucket of cars on my 5th birthday he brought them up from the basement and gave them to me one of my happiest moments in life
That's awesome!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for making this I’ve been thinking of getting this figure but I haven’t seen any in-depth reviews until now this basically answers all of my questions and it’s a great review thank you for this
Metrin Nui Glad to know you enjoyed it and found it helpful! I hope you find this figure, it's really good! Enjoy!
Thanks for watching!
@@BertTheStormtrooper also did you know that hasbro cancelled from the RID 2001 defensor he is a repaint of the japanese version of optimus prime in blue and black, he doesn't have his combining arms and legs, he even comes also with an exclusive blue version of predaking megatron which it also got cancelled plus the megatron loos a bit fat and defensfor is some inches taller. I have the concept art of defensor.
Out of all the Optimus Primes that I had, this one is my #1 favorite.
Thanks for watching!
I loved this figure but always had him in supermode cause of how much I liked how it looked. sadly when mum and dad separated, I lost mine.
Thanks for watching!
This is what I miss about today's transformers. Not enough missiles!
HORRIOR Thanks for watching!
Lol
@bert the storm tropper love your review
Before I started watching The armada series I discovered transformers by going through the channels on the T.V. I come to a channel called Fox kids I saw robots that can be about to change form. I knew I saw one episode of R.I.D.! That figure you reviewed is also my very first transformer!
R.I.D. was my re-introduction to the brand. Having been a kid of the 80s, I had allot of the original toys, but didn't pay attention to G2 or the Beast Wars era. This figure was my first Transformer as an adult and I haven't stopped since! Thanks for watching!
Tbh, I always found Optimus Prime as a fire truck a weird concept, but hey it works.
Thanks for watching!
I've wanted this figure for 9 years and on Tuesday I finally found it for £18.99p and it was in Excellent condition and all it was missing was his pistol. I also God ultra magnus but he was missing his gun and the white had slightly yellowed over time.
Dinoco Ronnie 21 That's a great find! Thanks for watching!
@@BertTheStormtrooper thanks and your welcome
A highly underrated series and Optimus Prime figure
Hollywood Purgatory Agreed! This is the one that got me BACK into collecting!
Thanks for watching!
Finally, a reviewer that mentions how tall Omega Prime is (in inches!) and shows what his articulation is! Ive had to watch 6 other bad reviewers videos before finding yours! Damn that was annoying!
Thanks for finally getting it right.
If you were curious about Omega Prime's height for things like display reasons, you might want to know that Omega Prime uses Magnus's Blue Bolts weapon for his own.... but it plugs into some tabs at the top of the bot mode, thereby making him even taller!
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!
+Bert The Stormtrooper 事
Using metric system actually enhances the reviewer because the metric system is the one that everyone else uses
The condition you kept this figure in is just beautiful. Nearly a decade later have you kept him this pristine? How are the tires doing? Are you excited for the new HasLab?
Tires are showing signs of cracking but haven't split yet.
Very excited for the HasLab figure!
Thanks for watching!
Just me, I would have some Super Nice first, then go Omega Prime. Regardless, I wanted this one SO badly as a kid. Nice look at this.
SoraDonaldGoofy99 Thanks for watching!
army guy? dang. i stumbled across your vid while looking for thunder erebus vids. searching for the combine with magnus on RID prime here. 10/10
Thanks for watching!
I had this toy when I was in kindergarten.
Secret Asian Man Thanks for watching!
I Just got R.I.D. Optimus prime at a game store for $64.00 but it didn't come with the shoulders for its super mode and for it to become a full fire engine. Hopefully I can find two shoulders on eBay to finish it. If you have any suggestions please let me know.
Thanks for watching!
I'm praying for a masterpiece remake of this figure!!! Definitely one of my top 3 Transformers of all time!!
my cousin had this whenever I went to his house I played with it
i like to treat RID optimus as a seperate person than optimus and call him by his Japanese name, Fire convoy.
You're correct; R.I.D. takes place in a completely different universe and Prime/ Fire Convoy is a different character.
Thanks for watching!
Theres rubber care you can buy to preserve your tires I'm not sure if any has said this but you can use gummi pfledge stift
+Rodger Moreno Never tried that, I'll have to check it out.
Thanks for watching!
+Bert The Stormtrooper It is a trick I picked up from rocket punch army.
Rodger Moreno Love RPA! I'm a huge fan of Mazinger Z!
this was my first figure and still have it (well not the super mode parts)
+Brandon Mcfadden (The immortal) One of my favorites! Awesome figure!

Interesting thing: there is also a RID 2001 hot spot which is a blue repaint of him that comes with a rare blue Megatron but sadly it got cancelled. I used the own the picture but hot spot doesn't become defensor and now I don't have the picture tho. Hot spot looked alot as a decepticon due to the eyes and head color scheme.
abdiel miranda They did this figure in the Titanium line and that one got repainted blue into Hotspot. I have them both.
Thanks for watching!
@@BertTheStormtrooper yeah are you sure you know what I am talking about?
abdiel miranda Yes I do, it was an unreleased Botcon set
@@BertTheStormtrooper finally also I have a question but are you considering reviewing transformers cyberverse figures?
@@uainjansun Probably not. I haven't been collecting anything other than Prime figures, MPs and G1s.
And I can't commit to reviewing anything at the moment, too busy. I can only shoot every once in a while. I will hopefully get back to a more regular shooting schedule at some point but it won't be soon.
I got that guy today and he is awesome! But i have one nitpick: In firetruck mode he is a little fragile.
Agreed, he can be. Play with care ;D
Thanks for watching!
I always got confused by RID. Like it was the autobots and the predacons. Like how did they end up meeting if in beast wars the predacons were in a different time period.
Edward Enterline 2001's RID cartoon is supposed to happen in a completely different universe from any other TF continuity.
Thanks for watching!
@@BertTheStormtrooper actually the rid 2001 was supposed to go after transformer transtech which they cancelled and abandone the project in 2000 but transtech is were it takes the mixture of predacons, maximals and autobot on cybertron. That means that the cancelled show is a cyberpunk style show thats what it explain all the predacons thing aperantly
The Predacons existed in G1 since the third season. Also I think RID2001 is another universe...I think.
RID2001 was adapted (loosly) from the Japanese Transformers anime _Car Robots._ In Japan it was set in the G1 continuity and followed Fire Convoy as he battled Gigatron, it took pace in the present day of the year 2000. When it was brought over for the US as a filler series, it was made it's own universe.
The best version of optimus
Thanks for watching!
When i started my collection R.I.D optimus prime and ultra magnus was my list but it turned out i never meant to have them into i download an app on my phone called offerup i seen an ad posted on there and i got in touch with the selling and we met up and i went to his house i brought a few transformers but i looked up and there was omega prime and so i ask the guy how much 170.00 the week after i had the 170.00 i called him and told him to bring to my job and honestly i'm happy with optimus prime now i need cybertron optimus and a g1 optimus for my collection and into i go to japan
Insane_mike85 Thanks for watching!
it was so fantastic to finally have vehicles back to transformers. went really hard buying RID Armada TF movie Energon..lost steam towards cybertron.
Digging through my old toys and found him and magus prime! Optimus is in pretty good shape though I’m not sure where to change out the battery pack😅 I may sell it but man I’m not sure if I can it’s such a beautiful toy and I’m not a collector at all
Are the tires still good? They're known to dry out & crack or split over time
Thanks for watching!
@@BertTheStormtrooper the tires are basically brand new I didn’t play with these guys too much but I’m missing two little pieces from magnus which is driving me crazy😂
OK man, you've sold me on this guy. Just bought him on eBay purely on the strength of your review and your passion for the figure. Cheers:)
I loved this review I totally subscribed based on this alone. Props.
Jason Tate I love getting comments like this! I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!
Ok of all the Optimus prime designs there are three that are my favorite cybertron Optimus Prime, armada Optimus prime, and this big guy.
Great picks!
Thanks for watching!
4:19 Sence it's supposed to be R.I.D. 2001, I think that quote is actually from that show, not Beast Wars. I was to young to watch Beach Wars but I did watch R.I.D. and the Unicron Trilogy back in the day.
Jack Harpe 3rd Thanks for watching!
BEST COMBINER EVERRRR!!!
Not really combiner. More of power-upper
This is on my list of transformers figures i want

I thought the super mode wasnt that big but now i have it in hand its huge
ninjacole321 channel It's an impressive looking figure for sure!

Also the waist piece in car mode goes under the super mode chest
this would be considered mp now and cost over 500 lol

Oh! can you do More G2 Transformers? Maybe the laser rods And the cyberjets?
When I get some, absolutely. As of now I have already reviewed all 7 of the G2 figures in my collection.
Thanks for watching!
You know you can connect the super mode parts on to Omega Prime right?
Nice video. I have Ultra Magnus (getting Prime is proving to be far harder and more costly than I had first thought). I love the toys from the RiD line. I don't have many, but I plan to get more (As of this writing, I only have RiD Megatron, Super X-Brawn, Scourge and Ultra Magnus - does Generations Sky-Byte count?).
I pretty much ignored this series when it came out, and its still not one of my favorites, but man, I love the figures.
Dallas Loghry I have very fond memories of when the series came out, it's the one that got me BACK into collecting Transformers!!!Good luck finding Prime! LMK when you do!
Thanks for watching!
Bert The Stormtrooper What does Omega Prime say when you press the button on Ultra Magnus' chest piece?
Dallas Loghry "Optimus Prime! Ultra Magnus! COMBINE!"
Gonna be hard for Hasbro to top this figure because it seems like it’s close to being a masterpiece representation of itself out of the gate.
Agreed!
Thanks for watching!
I've had this figure since it was new. Like yours, the rubber tires have cracked and split. I transformed the front portion only once or twice and never built the full robot.
Dan McCarthy Yeah, the tires are super nice but a shame they don't last more than a few years.
Thanks for watching!
Love the video. Also, thank you for your service.

Sorry to hear it.

Hey bert, what do you think of the haslab RID 2001 optimus prime?
@@Alcastar607 I'm looking forward to it. At first I though the individual robots seemed too close to the originals and maybe not enough of an upgrade but that combined super robot looks so good!

Helen Zomuanthangi Thanks for watching!
I have never put the hand gun on the back there, it fits underneath at the front and rolls like an extra wheel
gyalis I don't think I've ever tried that, gonna check it out. TNX

Bert The Stormtrooper this is the exact same transformer that got me back into collecting, I always regretted not getting ultra Magnus, it was great to see the finally combined
GO GO GO GO TRANSFORMERS !
James Hunden Thanks for watching!
As cool as this figure is, I think ALL the other diesel-mode versions can roll WITHOUT his trailer. I wonder if some1 can stop-motion him with the dilemma of him "not being able to fully drive off 'cuz they took the trailer"...lol.
BUT, what you were explaining about the ONE BIG HAND is the show was that he used it as a "Power Punch", I believe. He also in the very 1st episode used the "Rocket Punch" feature as it was launched from the trailer itself. ALSO, while battling Ultra Magnus for the Matrix, Prime had to recharge in exile; so, the gun tower doubled as a sort-of "recharge throne".
Thanks for watching!
With the Haslab version of this guy, I believe that is most main versions of Optimus Prime in some form between WFC and Legacy.
Siege: Cybertron (which sucked)
Legacy: G2
Legacy Evo: Armada
Legacy Uni: Animated, RiD
SS86:G1
I believe the only major incarnations missing are Energon and Prime. I'd love for Cybertron to get another go, and/or for the sideswipe mold to be officially retooled into G2 gobots Optimus rather than just being a toyhax conversion, but, I digress.
Given that there is supposedly a deluxe Optimus coming out in Legacy Uni that isn't accounted for, perhaps it will be an Energon Optimus who can combine with core class limbs or a core class wingsaber for super-mode.
Edit: We are also missing a modern version of Powermaster and Star Convoy, but at this point,we might be better off waiting and praying for them to be haslabs.

malaysia hehe.. even new releases are expensive :(
+Bert The Stormtrooper hi bert, i'm thinking of buying this toy. however i've heard many horror stories regarding the tyres crack and split on hasbro version. are you facing the same problem?
p.s : i've watched the vid again and yes they split hmmmm..
Izzat Hamidon Yes, sadly, they do. I bought mine new when it first came out. It has been shelf kept, in robot mode, in my collection room all it's life and they are beginning to split. Imagine my surprise and disappointment to find that mine, while the tires haven't yet split, are beginning to crack. I recently bought a second one to display in Omega Prime mode that came with split tires. I was able to very carefully, super glue them back together at the splits, then I heated them to soften them up and put them back on the truck. It worked! And they are still holding!
So when you're looking for one, look for minimal damage on the tires so you can at least fix them on your end.
Hope that helps!
Thanks for watching!
i can imagine that, even a scratch or stress marks done on my collection is so disappointing. sadly there is no reissue of this toy, maybe it might reissue on Year of The... series which we don't know when. t've heard takara versions are doing well, i might go for that.
