    I was 10 years old when Transformers started in 1984. I collected the toys, the comics anything I could get my hands on, and I never stopped. I watched the Beast Wars in the 90's, and collected the toys then as well. In 2001 when R I D debuted it just strengthened my love for the brand. when my Son was younger, I got him hooked on Transformers as well. I will be 50 this April, and I still to this day, rewatch all the cartoons that have run since the beginning and the movies as well. I have been s Transformers fan since I was a kid, and always will.

    My older brother and I loved RiD when we were kids I only had Optimus as a birthday present though, I even got to meet Neil Kaplan the voice of Optimus at Twin Cities Con I wanted his autograph and he told me and my younger brother on how the role for Optimus was special to him not only for the franchise going back with the Autobots being cars again but because of 9/11 impacting his role, he had to make Optimus sound more inspiring as a leader and as a hero especially since this version of Optimus turned into a fire truck he then wrote a phrase that Optimus has never said in the show but would say because it’s in character that being “Evil is a fire that *must* be extinguished.” I happily display the autograph in my living room

    The bastard series of the Transformers franchise for sure...
    I absolutely love this cartoon... I was born in 1982 so G1 was my jam as a kid... but by 2000/2001 I was into the metal scene and playing in bands. Transformers were a distant memory for me.. I only happened upon this cartoon because my little brother at the time was super into this cartoon,and just by chance one day I watched an episode with him and it totally reignited my love for the franchise. It's something we bonded over, I remember for that Christmas when this show made its debut on Channel 11 he got Optimus prime, Ultra Magnus,Megatron,Skye Byte and the one Autobot car who flirts with the red car can't remember his name right now.
    Really wish this was out on physical media, I would buy it in a heartbeat if it was on Blu-ray. There's a DVD set that's been on eBay for a long time I believe it's all region and it's from Bulgaria or something LOL

    I think we're forgetting the most important aspect of RID '01. It gave us the unforgettable character, the legendary fan favorite Decepticon Sky-Byte. A character that was unfortunately left out of the franchise until the Cyberverse cartoon resurrected him. We'll always owe a debt of gratitude for this underrated series for his creation alone. Also, the first time Daran "Knockout" Norris's first role as a Transformer. Too bad he wasn't his usual hammy self portraying the character he was given, though.

    I was amazed when I first saw Beast Wars toys. The articulation was like a quantum leap for TF toys. I got several, but I was disappointed that they weren't vehicles.
    Then, when RID rolled out, I was thrilled. Vehicle transformers with Beast Wars articulation. I got all the Autobots and Megatron. Going into Armada, I thought the articulation was going to be on par with RID. Sadly, it took a step back. Unfortunately, I was on such a collecting binge that I got almost every Armada toy. By the time I was done, I realized I had made a big mistake. I mostly dropped out of TF collecting until the classics and movie toys rolled around.
    Some people dislike RID toys because of the extra kibble, but I think that's part of the fun. Extra doors and other pieces that could be posed to make the toys look more dynamic...

    In my head canon, RID 2001 took place between G1 and Beast Wars. The Decepticons were more incline to use beast themed warriors (Predacons, Terrorcons, Horrorcons, etc), they just stuck with that, and rebranded themselves as Predacons. So what we saw in RID 2001, was the rebranded Decepticons battling it out with the Autobots. After RID 2001, to combat with any remaining forces of Predacons, the Autobots created beast Autobots themselves, and called them Maximals. So a new war between Maximals and Predacons became a thing, but it was too taxing on them, because of their large size. So they created smaller versions of both factions to conserve on the massive Energon usage. Thus leading into the Beast Wars.

    • @shin-gokusatsu645
      @shin-gokusatsu645 7 месяцев назад +8

      @StarFighters76 actually in Japan Car Robot's took place years after the events of the G1 continuity but when they imported the series to the west that's where the whole "alternate universe" continuity began. I like to stick with the Japanese canon because it makes more sense this taking place after the end of the Great war where it fills in the gap before they went techno-organic during the beast era later in the far future.

    • @vitoldwisniewski
      @vitoldwisniewski 7 месяцев назад +1

      I did the same Head canon by making up my own continuation through fanfic using Transformers: Operation Combination's plot that saw Decepticon High Regent Scrash and the Jet Corps break out Scourge who became Scrash's 2nd in command and the Commandos out of prison to take Earth's energy. Not only that, This Decepticon faction had a main computer system called ADA which stood for Advanced Data Analyzer and she was the evil counterpart to T-AI.

I was one of the fans that was scorned for liking animation and cartoons in mid to late 80's before the anime underground scene really took off. It took a toll trying to explain plot and animation quality in my teens, when the networks were full of shows like Snorks, Muppet Babies, My Little Pony, Gummi Bears and Strawberry Shortcake that were catered towards early and middle childhood. Added to that you had Filmation and its over reliance on stock footage. It was a long decade until that perception started to change.

    I discovered the "Firetruck Convy" randomly and it felt like i had stumbled upon a secret toyline.
    I got it instantly amd absolutely loved the amount of detail and transforming features.
    I was an adult but didn't care, collecting more of the line was fun and addictive.
    Still holds up to rhis day as the line that really took my interest in toys again.
    Missed the kickstarter though definitely going to look out for any selling at a decent price.

    I was well out of collecting or watching Transformers by the time this came out, but I did buy the Fire Convoy/Optimus Prime. The full figure with all the bits and pieces attached looked incredible. I just wish it didn't require taking things off and putting back together to do the whole transformation. So he stayed a statue for most of the time. I'll have to see if I still have him.

    I think I remember seeing commercials for this series and loving the anime take on transformers because it made them so much cooler since the animation was way better than the chunky 80's animation. I was a freshman and didn't buy any of the toys and probably was a little bit of a G1 purest snob and just wished they came out with awesome looking G1 toys. Ironically I did buy an Optimus Prime Revlotech figure for I think $100, but I loved how it was so poseable. Still sits on my shelf today.

    I was truly one of the Transformers fans who helped carried the franchise over from G1 to Car Robots. Even though I was born a year before Transformers G1, I had older brothers who collected the line. I even helped by buying figures like G1 Groove and Octopunch. I even collected a few figures from G2, Beast Wars. And Beast Machines despite being in high school when BM was new. I even went so far buying Car Robots figures before it was localized as Robot in Disguise - I remember somehow inspired my older brother to buy the JRX (Rail Racer) giftset for $70 at a Chinatown street fair in the Bay Area in 2000 or 2001.

But then the Predacons created Decepticons and I just threw my hand up lol.

I could never get into any other Transformers series after. I still think they shot themselves in the foot by ending Beast Wars. There were so many stories to tell...

    Loved the video man. But I do feel you glossed over some pretty big contributions this show brought to transformers
    1.Optimus and Ultra Magnus actually being brothers. Dreamweaver comics and others have gone on to follow this formula but this was the first time the rumor was confirmed
    2. Scourge (the dark Optimus clone) basically became the basis for Nemesis Prime, a concept theat continued in the unicron trilogy and basically every major tf continuity after.
    3. Optimus combining with a partner or being a combiner of some sort. After omega prime the unicron trilogy and even Michael Bay movies took this concept.
