It looks like your blue figure is(Speedbreaker) from Car Robots and the red one is Sideburn (super mode) from RID. The blue figure is a Japanese release and the red one is an American release because Takara didn’t print the Autobot insignia on the roof and Hasbro did.
old plastic with metal flakes and/or swirls are always terrible. gold is the most common but it can be other metallic plastic, seen it is brown, red and dark grey metallic. So if you cant see metal flakes or swirls in your golden plastic is it mostly safe even if it is old.
2001 RID figures are still my absolute favorites. The realistic vehicle modes with the rubber tires and vac-metal painted parts is how I pretty much got into transformers.
Yes. Why can't every figure have clear plastic insterts like KingRise Optimus or SS100 RotB Bee!? It'd be so cool! & you would've have to worry so much abt clear plastic!
That blue Dodge Viper is Speed Breaker from Car Robots because Takara didn’t print the Autobot insignia on this figure and the red Dodge Viper is Side Burn because Hasbro did print the Autobot insignia on the roof. You have a Japanese version and an American version of the same figure.
have to agree, Legacy Shadow Striker is a great figure. People gave it so much shit when it leaked but I love it. It's just so DIFFERENT to most of what we've gotten recently. The way it transforms is just so unique and satisfying, even if the car mode isn't the best. It feels cold. metal. alien. Like a Decepticon should. Gives off major Terminator vibes. The clear plastic where the roof clips onto the hinge joint did break on mine but it still holds on by one of the clips. But other than that she's great. can't wait for Side Burn. Hopefully we get Roulette too.
Love your channel! Store the projectile alongside the undercarriage (there are two tabs on the missile and two slots on one of his thighs!) and it is an exhaust pipe! Also, his pistol is also a knife, just like with ShadowStriker, so SideBurn -does- have that melee option! Keep up the awesome work, and good get on finding the two in such good condition. SideBurn was the first Transformer I bought for myself with my own money (at 19, I believe) fresh from a Toys'R'Us, haha, back in like 2000-ish... Love that figure!!
Sideburn is a toy I have no business loving as much as I do. The Dodge Viper alt mode (and asymmetrical bot mode) makes me like way more than I should.
The modern design might be better as it's not reliant on balljoints, but it just doesn't look right. I liked that the Speedbreaker/ Sideburn mold was pretty slim and tight looking (which is why it worked well for the original Shadowstriker and Roulette). The new version's boxy looking body and skinny limbs just doesn't have the same panache as the original. I'm not a fan of Shadowstriker's alt mode either, it just looks a bit dumpy and less sporty. I bet though that this is one of those toys that's awesome in hand and I'm just not feeling it from what I'm seeing on the interwebs.
It's a shame that the new Legacy Sideburn didn't get a new remolded car front and that the flames in the new version are hardly noticeable. I wanted to buy it but I couldn't justify the price for such an underwhelming figure that isn't as good as the original Japanese version.
Just a heads up,the missile actually tabs into the slots on the leg on OG Sideways/Super Sideways, and sits under the car as a muffler, no sticking out the pooper needed!
Yes, some of those RID 2001 are a pain to transform but they have their own charm. My favorite Transformer line of all time by the way. Two tips from a RID collector: 1.- The missile can be placed as an exhaust pipe for the viper. Look for the thighs of the robot, you'll see two slots, and the missile has two tabs, you just have to line them up to give the appearance of a high performance exhaust. 2.- Once each 6 months, carefully take out the rubber wheels from the wheel frame, undust them with a small brush (don't water them) then put them in a small container with lid (you can use a small bag instead) with a good amount of liquid glycerin, enough to cover them and leave about 1 cm of liquid of liquid above the wheels, looks for bubbles in the wheels, use a toothpick to get rid of them, and place them in a place undisturbed for 24 hours. After that, use a dry absorbent paper towel to get rid of the excedent glycerin, place them in another paper towel for one hour in the shadow, and put them again in the figure. The wheels will rehydrate and prevent the cracks to appear.
@@ElysiumEverlasting777 if the wheel isn't as hard as rock, yes. It can restore it's flexibility. I have an X- Prown which one of it's wheels was as hard as rock that they split when I tried the treatment. Unfortunately at this point the glycerin isn't enough to smooth it. If the cracks are just superficial it prevents their growth. If the wheel is about to split, like half way, put a really small drop of cyanocrilate glue in the separation, press it to glue them, then let it dry overnight, and use the glycerin treatment the next day. My Optimus Prime wheels where about to split in half, and this resolve the problem.

The old toy looks neat, but also just man, that seems like a bit of a nightmare today thanks to the ball joints and clear plastic. Legacy Shadow Striker, meanwhile, is just great. Zero complaints from me. She's a really great figure, and I'd really be interested in seeing how they retool her into Sideburn.
All I want to come out of this mold is a two pack with the bot con style Shadow Striker and Roulette or just a Roulette. I really really like that design they had in that bot con two pack, I have no idea what makes it so appealing to me but it is. But there's no way I'm paying those crazy after market prices for the original so hopefully they do a remake at some point
Its genuinely so upsetting that shadowstriker wasn't made to look like the asymmetrical Frankenstein like she was in cyberverse. Honestly completely turned me off from the figure. Chalked this one up on the board as one of the big misses hasbro has done.
I just bought a huge RID 2001 collection, after seeing your luck with Sideburns 2001, I think that I am going leave mine in the car mode that most came to me in,lol
Great video. I don't like transparent plastic not just because that it's more weaker than solid plastic, it's also because of paint matching. Which always sucks. Always prefer painted Windows.
I got an old sideburn at TFcon and mine has no problems with things popping off. it’s definitely a little bit scary to handle because of the clear plastic but it’s actually really fun to play around with and I am very happy that I got it
0:18 What I wanted to hear the most about Legacy Shadow Striker since I have her in my collection Also fun fact: Regarding the RID 2001 anime, the production for Episode 3 onwards kinda went downhill largely due to 9/11, which began the day after the second episode aired.
I own the original blue one, and while the wheels haven't cracked, and the bumper has never popped off, the top of the car is stressed and the joint cracked. Crazy how complicated this mold felt back in the day. Really like the Shadowstriker mold though holding out for the Sideburn. Really hope the body gets some unofficial Viper retooling.
The key ideology to modern transformers is sacrifice the vehicle mode even combiner wars vehicle modes get a lot more love than current stuff this video shows that off very well. Not saying it’s a bad thing! I prefer the characters over the cars but it is a thing.
For anyone who wants the figure to be more like the Cyberverse design. You could swap the limbs with other spare transformers that have mushroom pegs to give her a more Cyberverse design, pretty sure her legs is a close match to Windblades legs. or custom paint the figure to match the show if you down want to comprimise the transformation.
Man, the new mold looks cool in robot mode, but man, vehicle mode just kinda sucks. Hope we get some decent remolding to make it look more like a Viper.
I know this may seem off topic but since there has been an announcement for a ss 86 commander class megatron in the works and despite him being a tank,I was thinking maybe you can do a review on toyworld's hegemon, supposedly the last good mainline scale gun mode megatron and seeing if modern engineering is able to make what hegemon is better
The first time I transformed the Side Burn redeco of Shadow striker, I could not for the life of me taking the roof on the double hinge. I ended up removing the hinge so I could still peg in the roof and be able to use the entire side roof gimmick.
I've had both the blue and red Side Burns since new. I think I transformed the blue one twice (into robot and back to car) and the red one has pretty much just been in vehicle mode for the past 23 years. Prowl and X-Brawn were so much more fun to transform.
fun fact: you can actually fit the gun inside the car mode on the new one! you just have to put it in with the handle facing up before you put the roof on.
If you pay attention, you'll notice there are TWO tabs on the missile and, conveniently, there are a pair of holes in his leg under the car. The missile tabs in there and becomes the car's exhaust pipe!
Don't know if anyone else has pointed it out yet, but you can actually store the missile underneath like an exhaust, one leg has two little holes to receive the tabs on the missile
I can't wait to see how the new one looks as Sideburn...but uhm, you missed the missile tabbing on the leg in car mode to give the car an exhaust in the original!
Absolutely love ShadowStriker as a standalone toy, but it's such a shame that her torso and limbs weren't remolded whatsoever to better suit her Cyberverse design. Same goes for Legacy Slipstream.
I think clear plastic breakages is what spelled the end for my original red Side Burn... I know the bumper often came off the gun and maybe the rook joint broke but i dunno. It's been 10-15 years since i lost him BUT i got a new one last year iirc.

Yeah.. LoL Now i want to branch my new collection off and get figures before WFC. I am remembering how much i loved this Sideburn! I had his from every packaging, colors, and even the Takara mold. He seemed to have a better feel ro him. (I felt the Binal tech was better than Alternators as well.. does anyone ever notice that with the diff between Takara and Hasbro? Or is it just holding an over seas figure that has sometimes different paint a trick of light (so to speak)?
Legacy Shadowstriker has to be one of the worst Legacy figures ever. The mold is pretty good, but for Sideburn. For Shadowstriker, it sucks. I really want/wanted a _Cyberverse_ Shadowstriker in Legacy, & we never got one. Honestly, the Elita-1 mold probably would've worked better for Shadowstriker than this one. But, preferably she'd have a brand new mold entirely. One of the reasons why I hate Legacy Shadowstriker is cuz Cyberverse Shadowstriker is really cool & she was _one_ of my fav characters from the show. Her base bot & Frankenstein forms were really cool. I just wish that Shadowstriker got the same treatment as Legacy CV Windblade, who is perfection & is super accurate to the show. Hopefully Shadowstriker & RID15 Strongarm could get brand new, _BETTER_ figures in Legacy that are actually accurate to their respective shows. Thats my dream. Also, the OG RID01 Sideburn mold looks pretty cool.
With Legacy Shadowstriker, I for the life of me cannot get the car bonnet tab into the robot thigh cos the tab piece wouldn't go inside as intended (keep going outside)! I had to cut the tabs off and it goes in perfectly!
My copy is permanently in vehicle mode now due to its age. The clear plastic sockets and joints are gone or broken. Hope the new one gets some remolding.
It just might be I'm lucky but my x brawn and side burn are both perfectly fine and I've had them since 2000/2001. I think there has been some paint chipping but other than that they have been fine, the one I've had looseness and breaking from clear plastic was prowl, I got three different prowls as a kid and the first two broke, so far the third hasn't yet but it has become very lose sadly
Eh, I still like Holler bettere than either version,,, and bayformer SS "Hot Rod" is a better Cyberverse Shadow Striker, even without painting it purple. Not that the Legacy toy is even trying to be Cyberverse SS, rather than the con-exclusive Side Burn repaint, but that's the better known character attached to the name and therefore what the marketroids tagged on her packaging.
I kinda have an issue with how the new mold feels like the chest is forced out too far or the shoulders are set too far back, the overall silhouette just doesn't look as good as the original, but then again the original is a real mess build-wise, you really can't win.
I despise the new shadow striker like it shares no design traits other than the head I remember being worried it would be a knockout remold but I now wish we got that
Apparently didn't know the missile pegs in underneath. I didn't get instructions so it completely crossed my mind my bad. Thanks for informing me tho
The gun on the old one can also be held as a knife

@@awsomesaucer5496 Yeeeaaah, about Prowl's yellowing...are the ol' skool urban legends true where he's said to be just as bad as the original BW Tigatron where some copies were yellowing right in the packaging??
I hate those shoulders so damn much.
The thing that tics me off the most is that they are set too far back for good reason.
I can't wait to have the time to mod mine.
I just got the Black and red version of the original sideburn this week, mines missing the rear bumper but he’s a fun figure to mess with.
I bought two just so she can hold two swords... Then a lil kid saw me playing with her and i was intending to have three of each kickbacks at the tIme and i gave him the extra shadow striker because i just can't NOT.. (plus im 42) now i want to get another one to keep in the package.. despite not having a fully closed package nowadays.. ih, amd hose insecti-clones? Turnes out he had two six year old siblings. Yeah.. LoL
Now i want to branch my new collection off and get figures before WFC.
It's even worse for Sideburn. They did him dirty with this Legacy mold.
@@primalconvoy Sideburn is great, the botmode at least. The carmode is crap, on both of them.
You can have the old figure hold both his guns as melee weapons too FYI
With Legacy Shadowstriker, I for the life of me cannot get the car bonnet tab into the robot thigh cos the tab piece wouldn't go inside as intended (keep going outside)! I had to cut the tabs off and it goes in perfectly!
My copy is permanently in vehicle mode now due to its age. The clear plastic sockets and joints are gone or broken. Hope the new one gets some remolding.
Sideburn
Finally find his red car ❤❤❤
Hey, great review! Any chance you can review some of the Earthspark figures next?
The missle pegs on the bottom of the car to make the ail pipe
It just might be I'm lucky but my x brawn and side burn are both perfectly fine and I've had them since 2000/2001. I think there has been some paint chipping but other than that they have been fine, the one I've had looseness and breaking from clear plastic was prowl, I got three different prowls as a kid and the first two broke, so far the third hasn't yet but it has become very lose sadly
I just got the new one and I actually am scared of one of the parts of transforming it. It's the back wheels where it looks like a cape
You want to hear a tale of clear plastic terror? Beast Machines Deluxe Class Optimus Primal.
so the red and blue onces are autobots but the purple remodel of the "same?" character is a decepticon?... what?
I kinda have an issue with how the new mold feels like the chest is forced out too far or the shoulders are set too far back, the overall silhouette just doesn't look as good as the original, but then again the original is a real mess build-wise, you really can't win.
I despise the new shadow striker like it shares no design traits other than the head I remember being worried it would be a knockout remold but I now wish we got that
Eurghk!!! Those hubcaps on Shadowstriker are fugly!!! Damn Assbro are so goddamn cheapskates!!!
