Aigis does have the thing where her voice sounds less robotic over the course of the story. It's just way more "alexa" as opposed to the "beep boop" cadence of the original.

I think they tried to imitate the japanese voice actor form of speech, that sounded more like a emotionless person more than a robot (in both japanese versions FES and Reload), might it be because I really like the original voice and the change that happens in game, but I miss the english beep boop voice acting

Honestly for me, it makes scenes like the awakening come across THAT much stronger in reload. Giving the fact for that scene she still sounds robotic just with human speech in the original, Reload's take on the scene makes her sound much more upset as she was in the movie. I feel that Reload's take on Aigis feels much more in line with the Japanese/Movie versions, As a person who has only Played Reload, I knew that the scene was going to be integral to how I felt about Aigis as a character, even knowing that she eventually becomes a lot more humanlike, But that scene ALONE made the character for me, which is why when I look back at the original version of it, I can't help but see the voice acting in that moment as a huge improvement for what it was. I like the original actor, and both provide good takes on the character, but with how that scene played in Reload, it makes me favor the new one on so many levels.

I completely see and partially agree with how the bright colors do take away some of the edge from some scenes, but when it changes to the more washed out colors in January. I feel that change at the point in the story when all the characters are scared helps a lot with the environment and I'm a bit surprised that it wasn't addressed. But it was something I found neat, great video Silok!

@@vietnguyen2293i feel like making it even darker and moodier than the washed out version makes less sense. The dorm is the hub of your found family/friends it should feel warm and inviting as its where you spent this year, they could've textured and lit it better but it being colorful exudes LIFE. When the color is washed out in January much like the citys overall it denotes the life of your home and your town leaving for the inevitable Fall of humanity and living with that sense of dread in all its simplicity works really well from an art design standpoint.

On Aigis's voice not sounding like a robot, she does still sound like a robot when you first meet her, it's just a lot more subtle in Reload. the comparison that came to my head when Aigis first showed up was Commander Data from TNG, and that was based on her using more robotic _language_ rather than robotic tone (which she still has to an extent, but it isn't as much as the original)

As someone who loves all versions of this game there are a few things that I do think are flaws, some things I am indifferent on in terms of removals, and some stuff that just doesn't bother me
I feel the removal of the fatigue system was a bit of a iffy call. It was more convenient being able to blitz through a Tartarus block in a single night, but it did affect the time management significantly since it makes the tough decision between going to Tartarus or working on your stats less important.
The new English cast I think was a solid improvement and some of the weirder choices they made make sense when you look at the Japanese version. Yukari is actually much nicer in Japanese than she was in the English localizations of prior versions, so Heather Gonzalez's portrayal of the character is much closer to Megumi Toyoguchi's than Michelle Ruff's was in the older versions. Aigis' voice is actually also more accurate in Reload, since Maaya Sakamoto's portrayal in the Japanese version is robotic in a different way than Karen Strassman's voice in the classic dub. Aigis speaks with more formal speech patterns before she becomes more human, always using honorifics and ending her sentences with "de arimasu" which makes her sound more formal and stiffer, before speaking more naturally like the human characters do. She never really spoke with the sort of stiffness that Strassman put in that slowly sounded more fluid until just becoming natural human speech. Dawn Bennet's portrayal is a lot closer to the original voice direction given to Sakamoto than Strassman. It seemed that the vocal direction was less to emulate the prior actors, but more to emulate the style of what the Japanese version was going for. The script also is similarly tweaked overall to be more Japanese accurate which is why a lot of lines from these characters are quite different in between the versions. Also btw Tanaka DID have a voice in Persona 4 Dancing All Night and its the same actor as in Reload.
The lighting 100% is a bit of an issue in Reload and it isn't just in the dorm. I found the lighting during the Final Boss to be much brighter than it needed to be, with more of a bright green tone than the moody darker blues of the original. I hope some mods come out on PC to tweak the lighting further as in some cases it really can be less moody than the original
I definitely agree on the music being a bit less punchy in some instances, although there is a bit of a reason for the vocal tracks. Shoji Meguro no longer works at Atlus, and Atsuhi Kitajoh was responsible for the music in Reload. Yumi Kawamura, the original vocalist was also replaced because she just physically can't sing as well as she could anymore as she is getting old. You could kind of hear her voice starting to go a bit in Persona 3 Dancing in Moonlight. As for the dorm music, the original lyrics were literally just from the "Best Service Hallelujah" sample CD and pitched down. This isn't the only time a Persona project has used stock samples as Persona Trinity Soul used a sample from "Masterbits Climax 9 - RAPsody (Vocals II) (0000)" in the infamous song "Burning Men's Souls", but I can see why Atlus may have decided to replace the dorm music with new original lyrics since they didn't make the lyrics to the original themselves.
Just wanted to provide a bit more information since I kinda agree with a some of your takes but also had some differences in opinion and context for some of the stuff that could help explain them.

I think the problem with a lot of the new remixes is that the instruments and vocals blend too much with each other compared to the original songs. The new singer has a nice voice and works amazingly with the brand new tracks (also has better english pronunciation lol), but Yumi's voice had a lot more confidence and clarity, and also the production complemented her and let her voice breathe, while with the new ones it sounds like the vocals have trouble keeping up with the instrumentals.
I will miss Yumi Kawamura, and I hope she's doing well with her finally leaving the Mass Destruction dungeon after 18 years. After singing the same songs over and over again, from remix albums to cash-grab games made by the Atlus farms, she deserves a rest.

FYI Tanaka had a voice in Dancing all Night and it seems to be the same actor in this game.
Also Aigis being more robotic sounding at first was an addition to the original English dub. The Japanese dub always had her sounding more human. It's debatable whether it's better to have it more closely match the Japanese version though.

21:08 it's almost like she's an emo girl who's slightly embarrassed by how Junpei is talking to her n that scene. Some of the voicing complaints are definitely nitpicky; I don't mean to sound dramatic, but her original voice sounds like she is an office worker trying to scare a 7 year old. And on Junpei sounding embarrassing in certain scenes, that's, again, the point; he turned the lights off to tell a ghost story with a light on his face and is overly excited at the about how he performed it, of course it's going to be embarrassing, you'd be embarrassed if someone did that in real life too. All it was missing was Yukari scoffing every time he did that stuff and you've got a more realistic version.
Tanaka was likely voiced that was coming from the perspective of being a teleshopping host and street scammer. It could have been more interesting if that voice was toned down as you got deeper into his social link, but the guy is a shady salesman, so I don't see how him cheering for customers is a bad voicing call considering the only reason he's talking to us is because he thinks he can train us to be an underling throughout most of the link.
Where I agree is Ken, Koro and Yukari. The barking was fine on Koro, but any other dog sound was too human. Ken, while I did like that voice for the emotional parts, he did overall sound less like a kid trying to be an adult and more like an adult trying to be a kid; classic case of it blatantly being an adult woman. And Yukari was just boring, and her insults felt too direct as opposed to the original which was more belittling and sometimes kinda jokey. The new Yukari voice left me finding her dislikeable, but I think if the original had voiced it I might have been a bit more sold on it.

    • @absollum

I kinda feel the opposite with Yukari's new va. Yukari being too biting in the og put me off her character until much later. -Cut content to release as DLC
    +Graphics/UI

I guess that might be considered good, since Yukari also has a beef with her like up until that point; however I would prefer Mitsuru actually being a more interesting character before that point, cause oh boy did the time it took made it really hard to give her a second chance. She just sounds more human in original, and she shows more personality as well. Like, the only moment prior to November in Reload that I thought she sounded great was literally in April, when she says "This isn't a game, Akihiko", and then she's back to flipping her hair like literally every time her portrait appears

I’m not done this game and I’m more or less listening, but for Chidori I REALLY like her performance in Reload. I think it was good in base 3 too, but it’s how her lines sound so “different” like you said at times. When she’s talking casually, she almost speaks as she is breathing out. A lot of voice directing does this when a character either is not themselves like being possessed, or broken and can’t even muster energy to cry or scream. It’s detached and very off putting and that’s her goal. Her view on life and making others want to avoid lines up with that SO well.
And then we see during her Death and some hospital scenes, she is breathing in and out a lot as she begins to feel emotions she wanted to suppress. Most normal characters you don’t notice it, but when a character like Chidori dies, it’s very noticeable due to her default speaking. And it makes people feel sad that she is so scared and so determined when they hear it, and even worse when it’s not even during a fit of emotions like when she’s dying. She speaks her words stalwartly rather then words falling out of her mouth with each exhale

    @tipsy634 8 месяцев назад +8

I really enjoy this video because of how you analysed the atmosphere and sound design, which is one of the most important things in the game. You compared tracks to their originals, and voice actors to their originals. Most people would dismiss the changes to iwatodai dorm as being an upgrade to make it more homey, but you acknowledge that something great has been lost with the moodiness gone.
I noticed something - Persona 3 reload is a fantastic game but it wants to make good impressions all around. Everything that had a dual nature before has been singalised.
Yukari's original voice actor could be soft and snappy, but now Yukari's new actor only performs as her softer self, because that's the impression Atlus want us to have of the character.
Aegis's voice actor originally did a robot mode, but now she doesn't, because Atlus want us to recognise her as a human robot.
The Iwatodai dorm used to feel both very warm and very cold, but now it only feels warm, because Atlus want us to remember it as a home.
It's like everything starts off in its "final state" instead of having a progression.
The soundtrack used to be super punchy and now it's super soft. On one hand, this makes it waaaaaaaay easier to listen to. On the other hand, the punchiness has a lot of memorability. Like for example a lot of the battle music has better lyrics but worse music and percussion, and the remade versions don't feel as special as they could be. Some tracks, like the final boss music and ending theme, are just... worse.
I DID notice that the male rapping in this game was a step above the original, but the female singing was way worse in terms of pronounciation. Like, the singer they got for the girl lyrics can't seem to talk english at all. You can hear it as early as the opening of the game. Some songs suffer more for this than others. The songs NEW to reload sound amazing, but the redone ones sound... bad.
I don't mean to roast the game, I love it, but as an artist, artistic design is one of the most sacred things that I recognise gets lost in a remake. Whether that's audio design or character design or environmental design or acting. Lots of direction given with the original content is completely overlooked by the peopole working on the new thing. A remake is usually a "side project", so does not get the same attention as the game did when it released years ago. The NEW direction Reload got was to be a very sleek and smooth game with likable characters and warmth, and it absolutely pulls that off, but forgets about the original intentions in the process!

it feels very homeginized, like it was made for ppl who came into the persona fandom from p5, at least that's what I got from how they did the atmosphere and the design (UI, etc)

I think people hated Yukari bc of the voice direction in the original, cuz I don’t understand the amount of hate she had. Because Yukari is a kind person, and pretty mature. So I like the new voice for Yukari, fits her more tbh. Like this is the girl who shown to hate bullying, helps the protagonist, and the only person in beginning to tell that spying on the protagonist, and holding information is wrong, and actually feels bad- she’s always been sweet. There 2000 mean girl doesn’t really fit.

I might be misremembering but IIRC in the OG Persona 3, you can also die from having 0 SP. So that might be why you're getting notifs when your SP is low.

I thought Mass Destruction, being what may in fact be, the BEST Battle Theme ever made, was much worse in Reload, and was made even worse by the fact that I seldom get to hear it. I had the same complaint with Royal and Last Surprise being replaced by Take Over during Sneak Attacks (So 98% of the fights), but here, it hurts more because Mass Destruction is just so OP, but also hurts less because it is worse than the original lol. Really odd nitpick, but yah.

I doubt you'll read this but, concerning P1's PSP soundtrack being underwhelming, there is a mod now out there that switches EVERY songs to the original so you can play the PSP version with the PS1 soundtrack. Strongly recommend it if you want a more atmospheric experience.
The Answer is already confirmed to be coming which is neat, I just hope it will be better than the original cuz the original...needed a lot of help dear god did it need help...

Alejandro Saab the voice actor of Akihiko is super talented, pretty much is all out dedicated to voice acting and personally one of my personal favourite voice actors of all time.
