Great video! I did something similar where I did an "Only Arsene, Merciless, No Velvet Room" run. The key to making the run smoother was utilizing obtaining skill cards from shadow negotiations. There's actually a lot of good skills able to be required as you progress through the run.
@@ReallyRecluset go for it! There's a spreadsheet online somewhere that outlines all the shadow negotiation cards if you can find it. Good luck with your run!
Honestly, one of your most interesting videos, together with the no random encounters challenge. Only complaint is that, in this specific setup, I believe merciless difficult would actually be more dangerous, considering that a random technical or weak hit could suddenly kill a teammate, which again, in this specific setup, could be very problematic Best part was seeing you use royal mechanics to get through, such as alarm skill carfs and acessories, but I would also love to see how you would fare without them if you were to try this challenge in an older persona game
I feel like a lighter difficulty can be to have it where you can get one Persona per "chapter" of each Palace. Thinking about when you're booted out to get a new party member or unlock a door through the real world.
This is a actually good content to show about persona 5. The only thing that make me tilt my head is about the nuzzlocke rule of catch the fist pokémon that appear on grass. Here on Persona you should translate to encounter the first shadow on each palace/memento, but that make the option to get Personas very shot and I undertand that. Nice work here, you deserve all praise!
I'm late, but Reaper was lv85 so the 3rd semester cap being about that high makes sense in that way too. Also, level cap prevents you from the increased damage multipliers for enemies being much weaker than you so that did make things tougher. Joker with 80 St would still deal extra damage at lv80 compared to lv70 if he fought a lv70 enemy
This is an interesting concept but I feel for it to be a true nuzlocke, you can pick unless Futaba position hacks you an "all downed" before you get your desired persona. Then you have to take or leave what you get as your encounter. That said, I wouldn't do that kind of run, so ignore me. Fantastic video all around.
i did a no fusion run last year, it was pretty similar to this but not as extreme on rules. the only things I would do differently would be going to the gym early to get 999 hp on joker, and using haru more. (because makoto's makajama + haru technical damage is busted) This seems like a lot of fun to do
The Irish pronunciations weren’t too bad actually! The reason why it’s go weird to pronounce is because we’re using English letters for a language that doesn’t match, so for our sounds we have certain letter combinations for the sounds we make while speaking. It’s not a rule, but for example ch usually makes the “wh” sound, like in “who”. The pronunciation is “Cu-Who-lin”, but usually regional dialects differ
The main thing I’m taking from this is that the PlayStation version has much, much smoother animations (and even extra ones, like the jazz club barman actually serving you instead of the drinks just appearing after a black screen) than the switch version. I don’t regret getting the switch version cos I travelled a lot while playing but wow. Night and day!
Good shit bro. If you want a harder challenge you could try itemless. Love persona but I'm more of a pokemon challenge player. Seems like this run went like a lot of nuzlockes where it's very tricky early but once you have more resources at your disposal it becomes much simpler. Not diminishing the accomplishment whatsoever though!! Very well played!!
Idea: Can you beat P5R without the hide mechanic? This means that you can't use prompts to jump into hide spots that make you invisible to all enemies. You're allowed to use the thief assist tools, so smokescreens are fine, and you can manually "hide" by putting a barrier between yourself and a shadows FOV so long as you don't use the actual hide button to become invisible, ambush, steal, or hop to different spots. I assume OHYA and Ryuji (instakill) will be very useful for the challenge.
I just started doing this by default near the end of my last playthrough. Just hung back and rushed them when they turned around. I found the hiding mechanic too clunky to do anything precise in after a while.
That's still very easy. I can hardly call it a challenge, since I can just unlock Ryuji's insta kill skill and just over level to the point where I can one shot everything in the game besides bosses.
I tried a different take on the Nuzlocke Run for Persona 5 Royal because I wanted to take advantage of the all of the different elements of the game. Also it’s hard to do a typical Nuzlocke since the Persona don’t have individual health bars so they can’t die or faint like Pokémon. I called it the Fool’s Journey Run where you can only use 1 Persona of each Arcana. The first Persona you obtain for an Arcana are the only ones you can use. Fusion is still restricted but you can still use it. If the first Persona you obtain for an Arcana is a Treasure Demon, you can fuse it with one of your other main Persona. So you’re essentially sacrificing the Arcana of the Treasure Demon to strengthen one of your other Persona. Now if you max out a Confidant, that unlocks the ability to fuse using the Persona of that Arcana. The other Persona being used needs to their Arcana to also have a maxed out Confidant. So you need to max out at least two Confidants before you can fuse your main Personas. After fusing them, the new Persona counts as the main Persona for both Arcana. So with this run, you can potentially use 24 Persona. But since there’s 9 Treasure Demons, the average number of Persona you’ll be using would be closer to 13. The main issues I had with this run is that I wasn’t sure if the starting Persona should count. We of course start out with Arsene but the game forces you to get certain Persona in the tutorial and even forces you to fuse. Also the Strength Confidant requires you to make specific Persona and I wasn’t sure if it should count if one of the Strength Confidant Persona ends up being the first Persona you get for an Arcana. If I make Seth to finish the Confidant and he ends up being the first Tower Persona I obtain, should that count? I had a lot of fun with the run but I wasn’t able to experiment enough to polish the rules.
I started watching because the last video I watched from you was amazing, then remembered partway through that I never actually finished P5 and do plan to one day so I can't finish the video without spoiling myself. I'll be back! It'll be... a while, though.
ah masochism. My favorite okay at least you didn't play on merciless. It may be technically easier than hard, but realistically if you got ambushed on merciless you would lose at least 1 party member. Now I know getting ambushed is very rare, but in 100 hours it will happen
Isn’t Maruki a higher level than Fafnir? I’m pretty sure the game intends for you to be level 99 to fight him, as at level 86 there’s a chance you could lose to him using a Megidolaon with unfair damage, which only happens if you take too long.
If it only happens when you take too long it's meant to be a time limit. Not something you can just shrug off. You're definitively not meant to be level 99 for anything in the game. Unless you want 0 challenge.
One thing I noticed that could be interesting in a second try of this challenge is that instead of choosing which shadow to pick per location, you do like most nuzlockes and only pick the first one you fight, and if you lose this one you can't pick another in that place.
The second part wouldn't work since if you loose the Persona it means it died, which means you blacked out (Game Over) which is an instant reset. But it would be interesting to see someone attempt the "First Encounter Only" rule
Yknow I've happened across multiple videos of yours now, I should just sub at this point since I just keep getting recommended your solid content. Always have a great time watching, love your energy and voice, dude!
In order to make things a bit easier, I would honestly suggest- for those wanting to try this challenge themselves- to instead limit it to 1 Persona per MAP rather than 1 Persona per PALACE. That would mean less risk of wiping nigh immediately, but would also mean you at least have something of a reserve. This of course would also extend to Mementos, with one layer equaling one Persona.
I was 58 minutes into this video until it dawned on me he was saying Jazz Club I kept asking... Where the hell in this game is a Chess Club? What....? Lol
Haru's dad fight took me over 2 hours to beat and I was on easy difficulty! My main issue was that I had not leveled up my baton pass at all and I had no backup save, so I just had to continue trying to get through... it was so painful!
dude I love these kinds of videos and would be willing to watch through the entire nuzlocke but after playing through p5 regular on the ps4 after watching trailers and letsplays of it and being like meh after the fact I wish to play through p5r without spoilers about what is extra added into p5r compared to p5 because of the story being much more complex and less predictable than your average pokemon game I will like the video and sub and put this in my watch later playlist for when I eventually beat p5r because this game needs to be experienced first hand and I don't want to take that away from myself but want to enjoy the experiences others do and how they make the game harder on themselves
I think that if, for whatever god forsaken reason, you decided to do this run again, you should allow persona fusions. I think it would allow for a greater degree of strategy. Maybe there should be some restriction, like, if you fuse a persona for the palace, then that counts as catching one, or something.
The problem with bg games is the fact they dont add anything new to shake up the gameplay. After releasing the game, all they add is things like emotes, characters, balance changes, etc; but they dont add new mechanics or try to be unique. Rr is a example of this, since it just took a bunch of things that were from other games and mashed them together, not even trying to add something new to be interesting

Layer like named layer, or numbered floor?
I was 58 minutes into this video until it dawned on me he was saying Jazz Club
I kept asking... Where the hell in this game is a Chess Club? What....? Lol
F in the chat for Akechi. I mean he was gonna die anyway so I guess it’s fine lol
My friend, I did not know that Joey Wheeler played Persona 5 Royal. Haha That's an advanced Brooklyn accent. Awesome vid, man.
Shikiuchi was my GOAT in persona 5 not royal, so I’m sad I missed out on getting him early in Royal but it’s fine, he’s still cool in my book
i swear im not here to find a way to beat okumura
Haru's dad fight took me over 2 hours to beat and I was on easy difficulty! My main issue was that I had not leveled up my baton pass at all and I had no backup save, so I just had to continue trying to get through... it was so painful!
now try this with P3 lmao
3:33 I had to stop and comment for this WOW
Very smart to call all the girls best girl to not anger there fans.
Except Ohya of course.
There are Ohya fans out there... you just can't find them
@@blushchuuof course you can't, they don’t exist
@@catalyst539 ohya fans know they chose worst girl. It's just a fact
Is all this Ohya hate just because her confidant skills are nearly worthless?
when the solo merciless run wasn't enough for people
shiki-ouji getting picked for madarame makes me happy :)
Awesome video. Really enjoyed it 👍
Dude I’ve been thinking about doing this for like a month!
I didnt skip the fact you said best girl was the teacher
This was pretty great though I’m still waiting to see someone do it without items.
I like how you have a level cap for each dungeon. It’s way too easy to overlevel in persona games, especially Royal.
to be fair, you sort of have to try to be overleveled by grinding
@@14g0t7 Instakill makes it really easy to hit 99 in Royal.
I like that you say best girl to everyone except ohya
I feel like P5 Royal has a serious power creep from vanilla P5. Would this challenge have been harder in the regular version of the game?
I can imagine the Okumara fight would be a nightmare lol
Not that different, i only have played the vanilla version and was pretty easy
now i really wanna try this challenge for myself, it looks really cool so far
You only got 7k subs??? We have to get this up to at least 10k
This was so much fun! Think you can do this with SMT V?
Me: Wow this dude must be a god at this game for trying this.
**Proceeds to reset in 2 minutes**
love everyone being best girl.
all my friends had sure fire answers but it's always a toss up for me
1:03:45 Used Akechi for the showtime even though he's dead. Run invalid. Run it back on merciless :)
Schizofrenia:
Futaba with the absolute CLUTCH at Sai
i want to see an hardcore nuzlocke i think it would be more challenging and interesting
Damn no fusion or compendium sounds super hard. Thats also my personal favorite part of the game so idk if i could do this lol
After i saw you do did this i did my own nuzlocke and i did it and crown is still alive
I lol'd at the fact you called all girls best girl except for Ohya.
Funny enough the only death is actually canon
I did this in smt Nocturne and IV Apocalypse and it took me 3 years to beat both on a single run with those rule
I have over 250 hours in p5r and i haven’t played it in about 2 years. Now i want to replay it after i’m done with p3r.
dude I love these kinds of videos and would be willing to watch through the entire nuzlocke but after playing through p5 regular on the ps4 after watching trailers and letsplays of it and being like meh after the fact I wish to play through p5r without spoilers about what is extra added into p5r compared to p5 because of the story being much more complex and less predictable than your average pokemon game I will like the video and sub and put this in my watch later playlist for when I eventually beat p5r because this game needs to be experienced first hand and I don't want to take that away from myself but want to enjoy the experiences others do and how they make the game harder on themselves
Man watching this video just makes me want to see an smt nuzlocke run
Soocubus 😂
Girimikhala (spelling?) always ends up my main persona for the entire rest of the run. Also screw the Okumura boss fight in Royal.
Thanks man
I learned a lot
And finally the SMT nuzlockes shall become a full fledged challenge
Try to beat Persona 5 with only starting equipment
I think that if, for whatever god forsaken reason, you decided to do this run again, you should allow persona fusions. I think it would allow for a greater degree of strategy. Maybe there should be some restriction, like, if you fuse a persona for the palace, then that counts as catching one, or something.
A NEW VIDEO! let go!!!
Dope channel , should have discovered it sooner but better late than never
The problem with bg games is the fact they dont add anything new to shake up the gameplay. After releasing the game, all they add is things like emotes, characters, balance changes, etc; but they dont add new mechanics or try to be unique. Rr is a example of this, since it just took a bunch of things that were from other games and mashed them together, not even trying to add something new to be interesting
