OH dude, I've been training every day for the last year. I made excuses TO GO TO THE GYM when I felt like "taking days off". Thanks for this podcast, now I have a reason to rationalize training and lifting every day. I never liked resting when my body didn't feel like it needed to rest, some DUH moment. Just like what you said for sleep schedule. That you don't advise people to go to bed at 11PM and wake up at 5AM, but instead go to sleep when you feel tired.

Careful, if you’re not actually taking “life” rest days like Jocko you may just be using the gym (not working out) as an escape. The body isn’t meant to do seven days a week with no rest and minimal nutrition
It’s not, it makes logical sense. If you suck at a specific exercise (let’s say squats) then you should put 70% into that and 30% into what you are good at. You become more well rounded, you fix your weak points, and your body rewards you.

The reason everyone wants to know why Jocko’s workouts are like is because he IS “some incredible athlete” compared to the average American. And as a guy who’s done this for literal years in the past, we seek the training plans of athletes because we expect (or hope) to find a secret hack or something to “finally make it work.” But the fact is that once you just start moving with ANY plan, the more fit you become, the more you realize the truth that it really isn’t that complicated. Doing the work is what makes it work, and it doesn’t really matter what the work is nearly as much as we think it will. It’s just like all the other stuff Jocko talks about. There’s no trick to being disciplined - you just have to get up and choose to be disciplined.
My favorite thing on rough days is just to stay on the mat until the last person calls it quits, its led to some sore days of me getting my ass kicked for hours on end.
I was wondering what was in jockos hand . then I realized it was his switch blade Haha. classic jocko talking about working out and getting it with a switch blade in his hand. casually of course allegedly
Jocko another option is to voicememo your ideas as they come to you regarding the content for your E Book and then sending your voice notes to get transcribed. Then all you will have to do is edit the content and structure it out. That would be an efficient means to get your EBook written. Just an idea, I know a few really busy entrepreneurs who have taken that approach. 👊👍
I agree with Jocko. Even if your training schedule for lifting is 5 days on 2 days off, even on your off days you should STILL be doing something. Obviously, don't lift on a day off, but do some fasted cardio or something to keep the body moving.
Wanted to train a form of martial arts again at 38. What would fellow followers recommend recommend for someone to build functional self defense and improve mental health during difficult times .
I feel like most people have to intentionally train at the act of discipline for years just to get get results barely close to Jocko's level of discipline, and only then will you see the other results you want happen in lockstep. You probably have to accept that it needs a lot of work, and take the mindset that you're going to build your tenacity and resilience for the long run rather than give up when you constantly find yourself far below a Jocko level of enthusiasm for discipline.

Jocko, Longtime fan of your stuff. Your podcasts have improved my life so much, and I can't thank you enough. I would be honored to write your e-book if you want to go ahead with it.
Would buy that ebook 100%
This man is truly amazing....
Fact: people will still ask you what your workouts are like.
I think it says a lot about their friendship that Jocko picked up a knife, waved it around for eight minutes, and Echo didn't mention it once.
I got the PDF for the workout program beginners guide series 1.
There was a note at the end for a Series 2 coming soon, but I cannot find it. IS this not completed yet for the public to purchase or?
I'm 45 and looking to start BJJ at a local dojo in Scottsdale, AZ
I am actively working out 3 to 4 times a week depending, but I feel I need to do more, or have better direction with my energy for working out.
I have been watching several clips regarding BJJ from this podcast, and I thank you for the strait up delivery of info. I like everything I have been hearing and Honestly It is what i hope for. I'm ready to get beat up and reshaped into a better man.
jocko! im begging you for one thing! on your instagram, when you post your "aftermath" photo, PLEASE could you just also post what you did that day? these exercies, this amount of reps, this amount of sets, and thats it. i would follow that religiously i swear
I just noticed that Echo was wearing Jocko's face on his shirt and I fucking lost it.
Two pit bulls sitting around telling awesomeness. Live the life boys!
Love the e book idea, more people should do that!
Surfing seems a cool way of working out. If you live near the ocean and a break with decent waves you’re very lucky.
The ebook was essentially added to the back of his Discipline Equals Freedom book, the last few pages
my "unplanned" off days always end up being harder...sometimes much harder, than the days when Im sticking to the workout I planned for that day
Correct!
just watched jocko on the GQ channel talking about movie scenes in war movies .Mans a beast
Being run through everybody too, all belts is what will bring your skills up super well! “First on, last off” mentality! Keep up the great work man
Thanks Jocko you're so chill.
I was wondering what was in jockos hand . then I realized it was his switch blade Haha. classic jocko talking about working out and getting it with a switch blade in his hand. casually of course
allegedly
You will find that by taking Saturdays off from your workouts that you will be blessed by God for it; you should definitely plan for this every week.
i thought that would be sunday. sunday is the holy day, right?
" Life brings days off "- Jocko He ain't lying
His like face of disappointment at 9:50 kills me. 😂😂
Jocko for President! His SEAL and BJJ / business teammates should run not only USA, but the world.
He do calisthenics, he got my attention
Functional Revolution
I would someday like to be famous enough where my podcast cohost wears a shirt with my face on it to talk to me
😂
I just snorted 💀
Echo, my workout schedule is almost exactly the same. EXCEPT 20 minute rounds! Holy crap. That is intense.
I agree with Jocko. Even if your training schedule for lifting is 5 days on 2 days off, even on your off days you should STILL be doing something. Obviously, don't lift on a day off, but do some fasted cardio or something to keep the body moving.
Jocko is the real life inspiration for Major Chip Hazard.
Wanted to train a form of martial arts again at 38.

I'm going to make my workout walking thru the fresh snow taking pictures today. Just fed 3 deer apples. Ahh winter paradise.

Can you add your diet into it, as well? If you ever do the e-book, if you haven’t already.
After a couple injurys you will learn when to switch up the workout for the day for sure
The cbrr 250 4 cyl motor.
Uze should all be able to haul one 100 meters before u start the training.
I love that style... Let life give you your days off. Jocko for president.
