Absolutely. Forest and hiking for me. Nothing better than saying one more mile about 6 times and finally finding that clearing or fire Tower access you've been after.
Physical fitness has been the best therapy for me. I was almost 300lbs and i lost 80lbs in about 3-4 month in the beginning of the year. Kept loosing weight progressivly each month since then. I work out, i hike, i run, i dive. I became more active, more confident, more assertive, less irritable and less susceptible to negative emotions. The physical transformation was the most visible to others but the mental transformation was the best for me. Your mind goes on journey of death and rebirth: It start with "i don't know if i can do it but i am gonna try " Then "it was hard but i did it" Then "it is no longer as hard as in the beginning" Then "I can do more " Then again "I can do even more" Then in the end it is "I can do anything !!!" Your body become a tool to navigate the world and no longer a burden. And your mind become the master of this tool. It feels so good. Healthier diet has been of great help too. I grow my own veggetables. And i am considering hunting to get my own meat by the end the year.
That's awesome, man. How long did you work out each day for those 3-4 months? I'm in the same physical state you were when you started. And hunting for your own meat is great. Just got my first two deer this season, and putting the meat in the freezer is a great feeling.
@@jbmitchell1212 I did not start with a fixed duration of exercise but rather with a quantity of exercises to accomplish: like 2 series of 10 push up and 2 series of 15 squats every morning, same thing in the evening when I get home from work. Actually I felt satisfied only after I crossed it off my to do list, it's a bit weird but that is how your brain works when you use a to do list I guess . I also walk or run as much as I can. Each time I have to go somewhere that is less than a 20min walk away I will walk. I walk or run up the stairs as fast as possible too(as safely as possible too) . Running or walking feels like hell when you are 300lbs, all the pain your body can feel will focus on your back.. But you have to do it. I'm not an expert or fitness coach but that is how I did it. From my failures at getting fit the previous years I understood that the secret is to set reasonably attainable but hard goals. It as to be hard enough to feel earned when you accomplish it. But it must not be too hard to the point that you will surely fail miserably and just give it all up. Yeah I look forward to begin hunting. I asked a friend and he is willing to teach me. Once I get the hang of it I will buy my own rifle.

So many things said here confront me so much. So much time wasted on things that don’t inspire me to be better. I’m going to start today by appreciating and valuing the important moments of the day. It’s so easy to get sucked up by trivial entertainment. I needed to hear this. Thanks guys.
Jocko, thanks for your honest, down to earth lessons based on your real life perspective, worldview and experiences. I am very motivated to apply the discipline that I know I possess but have not been applying. Time to take much greater control of my life and time in the crucial areas of life: family (stepping up, work (puntuality), fitness and diet (starting where I'm at with what I've got) and self-control (emotions etc.). I have been passive for too long, lulled by success based on natural talent, without the drive to push myself harder and tap into my full potential. I realize that I have been avoiding the pain/discomfort inherent in exerting more energy and effort in various areas of life. You make the grind worth it from a point of the reward of intrinsic motivation and successive successes from surpassing yourself at higher and higher levels of attainment/performance. Thanks bro, blessings and peace. I have only recently been listening to the podcast via youtube between you and Echo, it is a good mix of great advice, humour and testosterone with a large side of humility. Great show.
Echo: 1 of the guys in Lost was named mr.Echo....but he died though. Jocko: unamused face. I wish you wouldn't have given me that useless piece of information that's stuck in my head now. Too damn funny.
I am grateful to have nice equipment to utilize while over seas. I may be working all day, but I still get it immediately following the work day. Thank you for the insight on many topics. I read “Discipline Equals Freedom” in about 2 nights. Discipline saves lives, and allows you to more freely improve yourself. Finally starting to live the company motto “Standards, No Compromise”. Always improving my standard of living has opened my minds eye to what I’m capable of.
Jocko huge fan. I served 21 years in the Marine Corps and unfortunately had to retire after 13 surgeries and the pain that I put my body through. I told myself that when I retire I would become a fat body. However, that’s not me. When I was active, I surrounded myself with Marines that had the same goals which one of my brother in arms was (Cpl Jason Dunham). Now back what I want to get back in Marine Corps shape and practice my MMA. I do have a problem with prescription drugs and the pain that I have from head to foot. I’ve done it all when it comes to physical therapy, it would only work for a couple days. I started with 10 pushups now I’m at 50. At my peak I was a hard 290 PFT and was going to take my indoct for Recon, but a friend convinced me not to take it which I can’t regret due to the fact of my family. I believe God did not permit me to serve in combat due to the fact of my upbringing in Chicago. I don’t think I would have been a productive citizen. I did serve with V2/6, V3/2 when the snipers got caught peeing on the dead taliban. One of them has already committed suicide. I’m not sure what my question is really other than. I’ve been stuck after retiring almost a year ago. It’s been tough. I miss the Corps but at 100% permanent VA. It’s hard to lift certain things due to pain. I wish you or have the honor to speak to you because between you and Joe Rogan. You all have motivated me to get back on the Sandel and lift 15 pounds as oppose to 45. I do planks for my back and find myself doing or starting to due more exercises than lifting. I love my punching bag, but I can’t go full force. On one last note please keep what your doing because it has helped me along with my faith. Man if you ever have the time to talk. I can also tell you some of the most difficult but most noble assignments, such as the casualty officer. Which did a number mentality. But your videos like I stated before have helped me A LOT! Brother thank you and if you have time to ever talk to a Marine who life has been impacted by you can reach me at bunnytownboyz@gmail.com. But I do have questions on some of your challenges and how to overcome them with my specific injuries. I wish I can give you my number but I hope through emails, I might have the honor to speak to you. Once again thank you and God bless you and your family! R/S (Ret MSgt) Jeff Ordonez

love this one....so many universal truths....nothing new ....but so much timeless information...love you brothers...
Thanks, Jocko and Echo. I needed that today.
This is exactly what I needed to hear at this time in my life, thank you!
one should never feel ashamed but be humbled by the fruits of ones labor due to discipline and sacrifice.
This podcast was just the swift kick to the twig and berries I needed. Thanks Jocko and Echo!
I really appreciate the humility with this guy. I wouldn’t have made it this far with this podcast if that was not the case.
He is right-- opportunities are good coming to your doorstep! You must take action and step out in faith boldly!
"I'm not Familiar with this" Jocko
So many things said here confront me so much. So much time wasted on things that don’t inspire me to be better. I’m going to start today by appreciating and valuing the important moments of the day. It’s so easy to get sucked up by trivial entertainment. I needed to hear this. Thanks guys.
Echo and Jocko are badasses! Thanks for the clips bro 👌👍
Great show.
Your an inspiration Sir.. your hard work, achievements, mindset, & wisdom are a positive inspiration to many.
Echo: 1 of the guys in Lost was named mr.Echo....but he died though.
Jocko: unamused face. I wish you wouldn't have given me that useless piece of information that's stuck in my head now.
Too damn funny.
When did that dialogue happen in this video?

That's not what he said at all lol but ok. "Waste mental space on it"
I am grateful to have nice equipment to utilize while over seas.
Brother thank you and if you have time to ever talk to a Marine who life has been impacted by you can reach me at
bunnytownboyz@gmail.com. But I do have questions on some of your challenges and how to overcome them with my specific injuries. I wish I can give you my number but I hope through emails, I might have the honor to speak to you. Once again thank you and God bless you and your family!

Thanks for sharing your great words and example Jocko. Discipline=Freedom. Inspired.
That is awesome that you get to do those things. I am working my way to that, discipline equals freedom.
The days are long and the years are short.
That pen looks minuscule in Echo's hand. Dude is JAAAACKKED.
Echo Swol patrol ain't as big as he was doe
Guess he doesn't care about fitness though considering he doesn't look like he could run a mile.
@@nicholasmaxwell9899 Everyone has their own way of being fit and pushing themselves. My wife cycles. Miles and miles, and can hang with guys. Me? I can barely push off on the bike. Know why? Bc I choose to push myself in the gym and, yeah, run a bit. Also, you are judging him by the way he looks. Being in the military, I've seen all kinds of body types kill it at running. He has also stated how much running he did in the service, so he has mileage under his belt. Your comment clearly is narrow in it's scope.
@@WolfStreak I was in the military too, for 5 years. Guys with huge muscles cannot run for SHIT. It's basic physiology. If you want to be that huge, you SUCK at endurance. With almost no exceptions.
@@nicholasmaxwell9899 No exceptions, huh? Damn, you got it all figured out. I mean, I can't argue with physiology.
Bravo brother!! Just found you, thank you for your service. Awesome message. Joe Rogan recommended your podcast. Getting ready to start my own. Retired cop 35 years. Comedian, author, actor, producer. I will be watching. Love what you're doing.
On 4:30am schedule now. Let’s see what will happen. Regarding fitness of body and mind, I can testify that I’m using the gains I was able to make on physical fitness in the past few years to feel convinced that I can do the same to my mind. So I’m going back to school, picking up calculus and linear algebra after 20 year not touching math, learning to program and about machine learning. I’m a big fan of breaking barriers, being it with age, gender, social status, race, orientation, cultural heritage, educational level. And the beginning of the journey has to start with you: believing yourself that you can do it. In that sense, I’m living the dream right now too.
Success is when preparation meets opportunity.
this actually true after I grind hard on the gym early in the morning I am LEGIT glowing as if I had a big dose of cocaine
luck = preparation x opportunity........you don't get lucky if you're not prepared to capitalize on, and have you're eyes open to opportunities. fairly new to this podcast but love it.
Imagine jocko as your landlord 😂
better not be late with the rent....
Orlando Silva we get advice for free from jocko lol
Maybe personal mentor
I’d be at his place more than where I’m renting from him so I could learn life lessons every day😁.
I was thinking the same thing. Probably a great landlord to have tbh.
I love that Jocko Mentions he got lucky... We need to remember what luck is though, Luck is when PREPARATION meets OPPORTUNITY. In other words, luck does not negate the work. We still have a hand in our own progress either way. Probably feel that much more fortunate in the moment of whatever breakthrough too.
Movement is life.
Really like that Jocko understands the small role luck may have had in his life AND that he appreciates the importance of art. So many Jiu-Jitsu and productive types totally dismiss art.
That room is so bright! Or maybe it’s the after workout glow of your souls . . .
Physical fitness literally saves lives. Physically and mentally.
Started working out last year, but got really serious about it during our version of the COVID shutdown here and have been getting after it ever since. I had a complete turnaround form being lazy and avoiding workouts, to now wanting it. Craving it.
You earned your dream with blood ,sweat and tears. Only you know your sacrefice.
"I'm not familiar with that" is the best response to 'Keeping up with the Kardashians'.
Thanks brotha!
I needed to watch this one!
You help me so much. Keep talking! 😉
Fantastic question, with a fantastic answer!
I’m living in a 450 sq ft apt after divorce and my ex getting my 2800 sq ft nice home I remodeled. I’m happier than I’ve ever been getting rid of her and her daughter who just used me for an ATM and crapped all over me cheating, lying , and stealing from me. They literally nearly killed me. Get the f*ck away from people who are toxic. Run from these people!
You married a single mom. Looking back on it I am sure you now realize you brought that on yourself.
Oh yes. I will never date a single mom again.

I just set my alarm for 4:33am and it’s 12:42am !I’ll let you know how the workout goes!
Shitty. 8h sleep the night before is the best pre workout there is.
That's a rough life
@@robsonvonbrum1618 if it's his first day starting then it's okay. You need to be tired to sleep on time. Likely when you begin getting up early it won't be after 8 hours
In the words of the great Jocko:
GOOD..
Up at 4:00am its 4:20am now where u at
Jocko's blunt response of "I am not familiar with this" after Echo mentions Keeping up with the Kardashians was pretty damn funny. 😂
Please get Todd Opalski on the show. He's a Bodybuilding Force Recon Marine Scout Sniper Ranger Qualified Delta Force Operator. Veteran of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Desert Storm. Thanks.
Dude I love that he mentioned Bob Hoffman... York Barbell Club!!!
When he said “ I wish you wouldn’t have given me that information for my head. You’ve wasted space in my head”. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'd be interested in hearing more stories from when Jocko and his family were crammed into that shack. I've also missed out on most podcasts. If anyone knows, i'd appreciate a link. Thanks. Get some!
