Hell yeah. CrossFit has a lot of haters but can't deny the level of fitness it brings, as long as its done safely. The methodology is solid.
all of the haters, cant do it.
@@whiterabit09 Hard facts
kipping is still stupid, crossfit is still full of PEDS. and its a cult! no better than any other solid training program! Crossfit is a business that markets exercises that anyone can learn in their own time with a PT that will still cost less than a crossfit gym. And doesn't breed a weird cult of gym owners that are barely scraping by, if not losing money on gym ownership. Terrible scam based on marketing fitness.
Train until rhabdo removes your gains, no thanks 😊.
When CrossFit is done safely, it's no longer a CrossFit. It's just doing your exercises properly. But everybody love this sexy branding, don't they? :D
CrossFit make’s a hell of a lot of sense to me being an ex Infantry( Airborne )soldier .
The old ethos ( train hard, fight easy )
Train hard, slip some spinal disks
Train hard with kipping and butterfly pull ups?
@@innosanto Walk into a box then and throw down tough guy...
I never thought about CrossFit that much cause I’m kinda old fashioned about fitness. But as a Marine and a BJJ fighter I can see it now. Wish it didn’t take this long to figure that out
Except Crossfit is shit. Often it sacrifices form for quantity and with that it's easier to get injury. With the skipping pull ups and other exercises like that you don't gain much
@@realdragon I agree with the pull-ups. But some workouts and circuits can and did help me in the Marines
@@Ironmike3621 A lot of workouts can help, a lot of workouts overlap with other types of workout. But when workout focuses on quantity of reps instead quality I don't think that's the best choice for army

You're doing good!
This is wonderful content Jocko!
Never knew how long Jocko has been supporting crossfit. Makes me want to do this on top of my BJJ
Not by any means telling you what to do, just some healthy advice.. if you do, supplement with some yoga or mobility too bro. I do both BJJ and Crossfit and you definitely need to have a bit of a 'downer' to go with the uppers haha.
Just use kettlebells to supplement your BJJ practice, kettlebells tends to be effecient in many things like crossfit

I'm going to stick with the paratrooper. It's a good way to stay healthy. Intensity versus Longevity. It's very strenuous on your joints and bones.
This stuff is awesome. If you could combine this with a Renaissance Man approach to learning things then you would be an unstoppable force, able to adapt to any situation. You would become Napoleon.

The idea of CrossFit, or any type of training, is to be stronger, both mentally and physically than your JOB!
Is crossfit a replacement for regualar workouts?
Tactical Barbell
There are many ways to train and many goals behind training. Yet it seems like the longer you train, you start to become accustomed to the search for foundational mindset to training. As long as you can fulfill that mindset with a type of training, then you will reap the benefits. For example, it seems that Crossfitter's are always chasing the systemic feeling of a crushing workout. They will do anything to achieve this feeling in a workout. It makes you feel good, like you really worked hard. Is it truly sustainable though? Another example might be someone who values the mind-muscle connection. The focused feeling of turning on all the right fibers and feeling the full stretch and contraction of the muscle. These people tend to find crossfit problematic, because at some point of fatigue it is inevitable for form to break down. Also, I always wondered what is the point of being able to do 50 kipping pull ups or 50 burpees but every rep you slam on the ground, rather then control your body. So, then it all comes back around to goals and mindset. If you want to know that you worked hard and crushed some numbers than 50 burpees in 2 minutes sounds great. On the other side, if you want to feel like you owned a full range of motion and controlled every aspect of a rep, then maybe 10 strict, slow pull ups sounds better. In the end, nothing is better or wrong, it all comes down to what you enjoy and can sustain. I used to hate on Crossfit and have found myself enjoying it (and respecting it) much more in the recent year or so, but I still have a problem with some of the foundational principles. Every system has its pros and cons though. Just train, that's all that matters.
Based
Cool. Anyone got the reps/durations for this regimen? Just curious. As in 10mins bike, 50 burpees... Cheers!
Did CrossFit for years. An example of what is wrong with CrossFit is having people who have no business doing a snatch in the first place do them for time in a workout. I’m talking about people who just started exercising at 35-40 years old who don’t have the strength, mobility or coordination to do 1 snatch correctly, doing 30 of them in 10 minutes. Absolute bonehead programming.
That’s just one example I saw with my own two eyes. Way too much is dependent on whoever programs at the individual box. All are hit or miss.
What if they use a PVC pipe instead of a barbell?
@@bryanwelker I think that would be great to train the proper technique of the lift, and you see that done often. I think the Olympic lifts are excellent movements for a variety of reasons, and I think they should be taught, but they take most average people years to master especially as adults who have never done them.
I am talking specifically about programming the Olympic lifts into conditioning or “metcons” for an excessive amount of reps when the clients doing the workout haven’t even reached a level competency with the lift. It’s borderline dangerous and ineffective. You can achieve the same goal with those people from a conditioning aspect doing a dumbbell snatch or dumbbell C&J and mitigate the risk of injury by a large margin.
I love CrossFit as a concept. I think the execution is just off in a lot of cases at the local level.
@@MrSecretAgentMan007 Everything should be taught as a progression, which good coaches will implement. Anyone can snatch; how much they lift, how fast they lift, and how many times they lift should all be taken into consideration, and often are. It's the outliers that bring a lot of negativity, but even more so the people who put their ego at the forefront of their training.
@@bryanwelker I agree with that to some degree. Maybe this falls more into the hands of poor coaching, because I’ve seen a lot of that.
They specifically talk about this exact topic in this podcast.
Anyone know the background song? The kinda jazzy one?
Eh…do whatever gets you off the couch. If it’s CrossFit, that’s great. If it’s going to for a hike, that’s good. If it’s going for a three mile run, that’s good, too. I run competitively, lift weights and play rec sports. Just get out and move however you see fit😊
Whats the intro music please?

Train until you die LMAO
Been doing CrossFit 5 days a week for 1 year and BJJ for 6 weeks. Strong and dumb is better than smart and weak. 😂
Is this really an argument for doing CrossFit specifically? Or can you do something in a similar vein with structured, periodized strength training (including olympic lifts) and then add in the aerobic and anaerobic conditioning of CrossFit on top of that?
IMO that’s the best way to go, crossfit as it is now is a sport rather than a methodology (like it started out).
Sack off the AMRAP of Olympic lifts for time and doing them under fatigue, and sack off anything like butterfly pull ups and insane kipping (I do think a bit of kipping or better get not perfectly strict is acceptable in a circuit/wod but butterfly and excess kipping is pointless)
Basic strength training, low rep oly lifts and strict gymnastics alongside zone 2 aerobic and WOD’s that don’t include very high skill movements as fast as possible under fatigue is the best route to go
Nobody is storming the beach or taking the hill in regular life. I’d love to see you come to a family dairy farm, get up, get the day rolling by getting the heard into the parlor to milk, then clean all the barns, then feed all them, then work the fields, the milk again, then go bale hay all evening, then get up every day that week and keep doing it like that continuously. But yeah man CrossFit sounds really cool. Hahaha
Much respect for the vital work you do. I'm sure you're in better shape than most. In my experience, an hour of training will make everything else you mentioned a little easier. CrossFit is about increasing work capacity. What takes you 8 hours now may decrease to 6 or 7. I've worked cows, bailed hay, sugar cane, etc. in South Louisiana and I outworked everybody after doing an hour of CrossFit in the morning. I've also been an ironworker and again, outworked everybody. Later in life I worked in finance and had more energy than anyone so I could sell more.
wow it's almost like he said what made him get into crossfit was because of his job that literally is storming beaches and taking hills. bro is fighting invisible opps rn😂
No but have fun on your little farm man. Sounds really cool
By that logic, Jocko should add breeching charges with no hearing protection to CrossFit games. The intelligent thing to do is to separate skills which must be practiced from the physiological adaptation you wish to specialize in.
Maybe you should reach out to JSOC and tell them they have it all wrong.
@@haleyjmorris so you think the US Gov. doesn't get anything wrong? Yeah ok.

I have always wondered one thing, why I love working out daily but loath cardio for an hour. LOL Can anyone give me insight as to why cardio is so vile. I literally could lift all day but ask me to do hour on treadmill is like asking me to go to Michaels craft store, not happening.
Probably because you haven’t spent the time to develop the capacity to train cardio for an hour. Ultra runners wouldn’t be able to lift at your level. Start small, listen to your body, and increase volume as you develop your aerobic base and you’ll find it more enjoyable
@@austinhartman16 I have been doing 30 min a day on the treadmill, it has gotten easier I just get anxious to stop at 30 in. I think like you said the more I get into it the more I will maybe adapt. My goal is to cut down on weights and focus on building the cardio side, with luck it will slowly happen over time as I train at it.
Cheers
For my cardio, I simply ramp up the intensity on calisthenics, little to no rest and jump rope. I don't think cardio in itself is vile, but the way it's attained. Like you, I loathe any type of treadmill, exercise bike, etc. you couldn't give me one.
@@mmafan3 I think I am going to lean more towards your way of getting in cardio. I find that way more interesting and fun verse the treadmill or stationary bike. One thing I actually enjoy is doing hikes, that is actually fun to me and great when hot out and going up decent inclines, etc. Also you can add a pack with weight to push harder as you get trained.
For me its that mental game, once I want to quit before I start I know I need another form of exercise lol.
Cheers!
@@sunnyd6019 exactly..find what works and I agree with keeping it fun and interesting. Cheers as well and keep training.

@@HanlonsRazr Wasn't a slight. But the deal means more Jocko mentions. Not a bad thing.

always thought crossfit was a goof, but seeing jocko truly endorse it kind of makes you feel it has to have some legitimacy
You see it as a goof because that’s how the world wanted you to see it. Truth is this sort of training has been utilised by the elite of the elite for years before it was “CrossFit” it is hard though and it won’t get you swole so it’s a no no for meatheads. and unfortunately that insight runs down hill to everyone else cause let’s face it 90% of people just want to look fit not be fit.. On top of that Then you get people doing Kipping and 100 rep snatch sets and it makes it hard to argue for.
It’s goofy bc it’s goofy. Not that deep
Great advertisement for Crossfit. Its not for everyone but if you learn and follow the methodology, consistently put in effort, and keep your ego in check, the results will show.
The goal of any WOD is to finish first. Good form is not! That COULD mean creating injuries BEFORE anyone becomes well-prepared for the battlefield. They need to be powerful and durable. But good form is NOT the objective of CrossFit.
The Rogue air assault bike is excellent though.
That's not a goal of WOD lol, blame that to the Crossfit gyms who promotes that kind of mindset which leads to injuries. If youre talking about competetions the Crossfit games then yeah that is shitty

Watch the Crossfit games and try to explain how that is the best training. Deadlifting on slick surfaces, bike races for people who normally use stationary bikes, metal bars left in the sun for hours - marketing ruined the original concept. How do you know Jocko is detached from the Teams? He really thinks Team Guys still train crossfit...
General physical training is good, crossfit is bad. Crossfit is built on the idea of training better than others. This is a stupid and harmful idea. A good idea is to train to become the “best version of yourself”.

has anyone ever noticed the CrossFit haters are soft? The kind of peeps that always have an excuse for everything they can't or won't do?
I disagree. However, I don't hate CrossFit. What I do hate is how acceptable poor form is, in most cases. I wrestle, do Judo, run cross country, and track. The benefits of Crossfit workouts are awesome. It's just how easily the form gets sloppy and everybody accepts it that bothers me. For example the pull-ups on Murphs. I'm not doubting their fitness overall, I'm just a lover of proper form on most things. Maybe there's something I'm missing, but idk. I do agree with you, that most people hate high intensity stuff, that's why they prefer to stay static lifting weights and things.
A lot of people who disagree with crossfit methodology and principles are strength and conditioning coaches and also world class athletes.
Every sport or discipline has haters. MMA has haters. Crossfit has haters. It jst means it doesn't suit them or their goals. Doesn't make them soft man
@@christianmichaels6834 Kipping and butterfly pull-ups have their purpose. As a matter of fact, butterfly pull-ups are much more challenging to do than strict for different reasons. You are just critiquing something that you do not understand.
Also, why judge a sport or fitness methodology by its worst examples? That makes no sense unless you are indeed a hater.
@@haleyjmorris @Haley Morris Murph, after Navy SEAL Mike Murphy. It's great to honor a fallen hero, seriously. But you can't kip on a PST or it doesn't count, it's that simple.
