It's great, right? Jocko can keep being his awesome intense self and the good stuff gets across to regular people like us in a very accessible way because of Echo!
But i kind of agree its like cigarrets. You just cannot smoke a bit less. You must stop. Its hard but its the only way - no exepctions just fucking throw ciggarets out of window
@@Peter-ie6po lmao that’s straight up false. If you can not smoke at all, you can smoke less. It isn’t even a debate. It’s possible. It’s easier than just quitting cold turkey. You can have only one potato chip, people are just weak.
柯羽书Inge Van Keirsbilck that a continuous process to me about knowing your body. sometimes its hard to tell. if your not sure, you should probably stop or slow down. if youve never even been slightly hurt, your most likely not ever pushing that hard, which is bad to me because your not learning about your capabilities.
柯羽书Inge Van Keirsbilck also always work through an injury with a low level intensity, never sit on it. 1. you will recover quicker, 2. you will also learn your capability of recovery and limits while injured.
柯羽书Inge Van Keirsbilck part of honesty ive learned , and i think jocko would agree, you will always have days or moments where you dont want to do anything, sometimes people get this perception that people who work out everyday dont have “fuck this” days
Jocko...you're books and podcast empowered me to lose 110 lbs this year. Feel 1000x better physically and mentally I can't thank you enough! Thank you!
@@user-zy9yg2eu5t Yes, but who cares.. He's taking responsibility for himself and that's the best he can do. Learn the lesson, teach your kids to eat healthy (by example), and take responsibility for your life. No room for resentment, it's not useful. Joshua I hope you keep at it man! And if you fell off the wagon, get back on it! Update us how you're doing if possible, good luck.
I tried doing the Jocko Willink posting 4am pictures of my watch before working out. I did this for a week and was both mentally and physically exhausted everyday. My mind and body were not prepared for this kind of activity. I failed and realized that you have to be a little realistic with your goals and ease into it. You have to harden both your mind and body first. This takes time. Now I wake up around 6-7am everyday and start my day. Keep in mind 6 months ago I was a depressed, overweight alcoholic. I would wake up around 12pm and stuff my face and working out was barely in the equation. 6 months later and I am both mentally and physically prepared to wake up at 6am and get my day going. Who knows how long itll take to get used to waking up at 4am like Jocko, but guess what its gonna take time and easing into it. Build your good habits over time and youll see results. My 2 cents.
Bear in mind, there’s nothing magical about waking up at 4:30am. If waking up at 6am gives you enough time to start your day right while still getting enough sleep, why change it?
Echo Charlies is explaining the importance of knowing what you're getting into, and Jocko is emphasizing the importance of not letting that be more important than the change you're striving for
I’m not saying this to ruin your statement, because it did indeed make me laugh😆 But I’m pretty sure most of Grecian Philosophers dabbled in wrestling and other forms of fitness.
Kind of related not really but: Did you know Plato was actually the philosophers real name. The name Plato means broad shouldered and he was given this name during his wrestling “career.”
I think Echo's approach is more realistic for most people. Most folks who go on the New Years Resolution path, and suddenly start going to the gym all the time and abruptly go from eating junk food to salads and grilled chicken, will very quickly get tired of it and relapse. On the other hand, for most people, if you make small change that isn't dramatic, and keep at that until it feels normal, then make another small change and keep at it until it feels normal, then another, and another, that will keep them on the path.
I went ALL IN. Got fat at a desk job - went suit shopping for my buddy's wedding - ALARMING. Next day - lifting, whole foods (animals and plants), food scale, macros, 5-6 days a week in the gym lifting HEAVY and getting after it. I fall into the level 9 category. 1 month in - down almost 15 pounds. Holding the line everyday. On the offensive and getting aggressive.
400+lbs down to 205lbs doing exactly this. Even got pics of my clock every morning on my IG too. Started a year and 1 day ago. Got after it. Want more.
I hate to contradict Jocko, but I just lost a ton of weight making a bunch of small changes over time. 100% Echo’s way. I focused on a few things at a time, and added more as I mastered one. For instance: I was eating Wendy’s twice a day. Then I decided one Wendy’s salad and one burger. Then focused on I’m eating at home breakfast and one other meal a day. Then started tracking my food and made it a game to hit certain numbers... Wendy’s eventually took care of itself.
I can agree with that. I remember someone referring to your lifestyle changes like building a house, one brick at a time. Each brick is either a habit or some change in behavior.
Amen -- I'm a big believer that bad habits need to be replaced, they can't just be eliminated or else you have a big vacuum to fill and are likely to relapse.
I love Jocko but I know most people, including myself, lack the discipline to just quit all the bad habits. Small changes here and there will do wonders. replace soda with gatorade and then later on water to get the ball rolling
The way they actually communicate, debate, and even flip sides is the best thing ever. Love how they aren't hard headed and able to change their views with some good points are made.

I like the plan in the book "One Meal at a Time". Basically it says to get control over each meal one at a time. Get control over breakfast. Once you have that locked in, then work on lunch, then on to supper.
These guys are legit. I listen to them every now n then n I get inspired everytime. One thing they forget is that while on ur path thru this journey, there will be lots of people trying to discourage u, hoping u fall off. Nvr give them that satisfaction, just say fuck it then do it. Everyday it gets easier, u only get stronger. Once u fall off, u have to restart. Remember that.
To get back in shape i started doing pushups, once i could do 40 without stopping i started running, realized i couldnt run the distance i wanted. So i walked it, two miles every other day. Now i can maintain a steady jog the first mile and i sprint/walk the second. But eating right is the biggest change, eggs and spinach are the biggest part of my diet. And depending on what your addiction is foodwise, cutting sugar and carbs are the things you need to do, those were the hardest for me. Sugar is more addicting that cocaine 😂ive gone from 240-205 from feb 8th to april 17th
jamie myant sticking to it is the key! Im 195 right now and im building muscle, running two miles for time now. No step forward is too small as long as its in the right direction!
Hey Jocko! thought id add my story to this list. I started off last year just shy of 340 lbs stuck working a desk job and through an intense keto diet and slowly ramping up my exercise routines weekly i was capable of losing 140 lbs in just 8 months! For me, the hard core level 9 diet rework is what i needed.
Yeah, that cracked me up too. Diet is the hardest thing in the world for me. I have this horribly impulsive personality. I need Jocko to follow me around and slap unhealthy foods out of my hands.
Echo has this baseline idea that the "normal" human being has NO DISCIPLINE he always has an excuse, and explanation....its HILARIOUS the contrast between him and Jocko......hats off to Jocko for taking ECHO on board ....as the podcast progress...Im noticing Echo progress as well....no better way to prove your method than this way....peace be with you
@@ryanstoyles7611 I think it might be more correct to say that Echo has a much more realistic view of what a normal person is like. Most people will fail miserably if they attempt to radically alter their diet and lifestyle in the way that Jocko is suggesting. Jocko is a freak of nature - he can handle that kind of stuff. Most people cannot. And so the path to success for many is one in which small, iterative changes are made over a longer period of time so that their brain has time to acclimate to the new normal, and accept. This is why "diets" fail so often and people gain back weight they lost. They went hard in the paint for 1-3 months but their brain wasn't ready to adopt that as the new normal.
15 years of old, I know currently setting at 189lb, use to weigh 250-260. It was a slow process, started running because of track in 7th grade, started weight lifting lightly, and continue to run on my own. I gained weight back during Covid was back at 215-20, but after spending time with a great family during the death of a close friend that will always be part my family, I got started on keto because of them, and I haven’t looked back since. I enjoy being n keto so much, I’ve stepped off for Mother’s Day, but got back on the next day. I believe I’m uncommon among below common. You keep me reminded that there is no stopping always getting better!
You're probably healed by now, but helps to work out DOMS lightly, every day or so, also stretch it lightly every few hours to keep blood flowing to it.
Ease into it. Imagine "small goals" are a small wheel. One complete revolution of that small wheel is a goal achieved. If you start off with "big goals" (big wheel), you are not going to be strong, disciplined and confident enough to even make one revolution. START SMALL. The more victories of small and consistent goals is going to make you upgrade you wheel size and quality so you can start taking harder paths full of resistance and obsticales (those are tougher goals). You gonna drive a mountain bike through a thick, muddy, sandy steep uphill trail? No, you are going to say "some day but I am not advanced enough for that right now". You are going to hit that path once you have a "dirt bike". Then you take that once you got that "dirt bike" through upgrading yourself through small goals. Crawl before you walk, walk before you run, run before you fly. I was once an obese 300lb guy who literally dreamed of doing pullups. Then I'd wake up from that dream and instantly feel the reality of the weight on my aching bones. Decided to lose 100 pounds, one day, decided to try some pullups. Did 2. Only 2 but I was so happy to see the potential from this small victory. Then said fuck it, I want to he a Marine. Did more and more.. Got bootcamp ready and I am now a United States Marine. Just get at it people. The only thing stopping you is you. Start small. Evolve body mind and spirit. Help others who dont have faith in themselves. People who bully are posers who feel strong. They are not. People who lead the weak are. Remember weight loss or strength is just a product of your habits.. Dont focus on the mirror or the scale. Focus on the health of your mind and discipline. The weight will come off as an aftermath of your changes.
About 18-24 months ago I slipped 5 discs in my back, subsequently put on a bunch of weight. When I decided to get my act together (thanks Jocko!) I was somewhat limited by what I could physically do, but something I COULD and did do was get my diet fixed, and that's something everyone can do, no matter what your level of physical activity. Subsequently lost 25 kg, about 55 pounds to you Americans, while not being able to exercise much. Also feel far better, more alert, less fatigued, sleep better, blah blah blah, all the good stuff. Being physically active to the fullest extent possible is of course very important, but equally important is fueling the machine properly, so always approach nutrition seriously.
I think they are both right. For me, it was slow, gradual, incremental improvement. Change what you can. Think small. I got that from Jordan Peterson. But let me tell you, after a year and a half a of slow gradual changes, my life is unrecognizable from what it was. You still have to get after it and push yourself, but don’t aim too high. Change what you can every day. A little bit a a time. Aim up.
Yep. Got told I had fatty liver - you could have hit me with a hammer and it wouldn't have been as effective for my motivation. Now? I go at it. Diet is different; exercise regime in place; mindset is different; and I'm looking to beat it. 👍
Jocko mad respect to you my man!! Love your work and podcasts SOO much!! But please stop cutting Echo off! You may do it without even realizing it, but it's rude man. He always gives you the respect of his undivided attention, but you don't give the same. Thanks man! 😁🙏🏻
Stellar Star this. This. This. I give absolute due respect to Jocko but you can’t preach leadership strategy and tactics and constantly disrespectfully interrupt your social media business partner. Echo is literally his friend now but yeah Jocko does it quite a lot
I had to quit the gym in order to lose weight and get into shape. I know this sounds counter intuitive, but for me... I made two huge mistakes in the gym. The first was I never worked out unless I went to the gym - which I was always really great at planning and not good at going, even though I paid for the gym for years and years and years. The second thing I did wrong was, when I did go to the gym, I always tried to do too much and would end up overdoing it and get hurt. Which would, of course, perpetuate my avoidance of the gym. At my heaviest, I weighed 350lbs and I quit the gym and started walking. Last week, I ran my 42 full marathon.
this.....i got back into shape once i realized that i don't like going to the gym enough to go there everyday. i needed something i could do at home. pushups, pull ups, light weight squats, bike rides, walks and runs. this got me into a routine. now i go to the gym on the weekends to supplement the calesthinics
Kayla Goodwin I just completed day 61 on Beachbody. I love working out at home. Also youth - I will admit - this is a new thing for me. I've never been this successful at it before. I agree. Home workouts are great. But I still walk - run too.
Portion control to start off when your trying to lose weight worked for me. I understand jocko mentality and mind set about stopping everything completely. I think the key point was "personality" you know yourself so whatever works for you. Me personally I started off portioning and working out, when I saw the weight loss results I started not wanting to really eat that stuff anymore. I do have a cheat day but only 1 thing
Yeah, it all depends on the person. I don't handle cold turkey well with certain things but some habits require me to go cold turkey otherwise I fall off the wagon and go right back. I cannot "occasionally" partake.
Thanks to Joko and Echo laying down reality like a lead carpet, suffocating doubt. I managed to shed 6 stone (UK here), 84 pounds and still losing. First I corrected my diet. I never shop past the fruit and veg section, done the plant based diet for now, just while I'm shedding flab. I started moderate cycling for an hour a day. 30 mins out and then turn back, easy for the mental side of it. Now I have just managed to run 3 miles for the last month. I start Jiu Jitsu next month. Work commitments have kept me away from BJJ. Joko and Echo are doing the real great work. keep it up lads.
I think with diet Jocko is damn right, cold turkey is the way. With working out, try to hit the gym and get a baseline, see what your 1 is and what your 10 is. Go level 6 or 7 Monday-Thursday and level 9 on Friday so you have the weekend to recover. This is what I like to do.
I got to that “done” moment i was watching a movie and realized that I was close to the infamous fat Thor size. Jocko you have helped me lose 86 pounds you da man!!!
Just discovered Jocko today, these podcasts are getting me through a 12 hour shift doing nothing behind a desk. Former LEO, 27 years old, been off the job for 3 years, I had a bowel disease that tanked my career and left me basically disabled for the first year of that time. Now I’ve recovered to a base level of functionality, but that period has left me with awful diet and exercise habits. I’m active, not fat or anything, and I try to watch my junk food intake, but I’m nowhere near as fit as I used to be. Monday I’m gonna try this fasting thing, my girlfriend got me an appointment with her nutritionist/personal trainer for my birthday, and they gave me a plan, so maybe that will be the key to sticking to it this time. I’m also going back to finish my degree, and getting in touch with my old work contacts. I got derailed for sure, but I want to be successful again. I want to be a force for good.
It’s true. You have to start small. I remember when I truly decided I was gonna get into running track when I was young. Started with a mile. The goal was...by the next week I’ll be running two, without stopping. The next week, the goal was another mile but it wasn’t pertinent. If I wasn’t feeling it, I wasn’t feeling it...but I promised myself I’d always push it. The key was how you felt and your diet on any given day. In due time I was running five miles around the track...at high, consistent speed, every night. What those who don’t know don’t tell you is that when you run long distance every mile is different, but physically and psychologically. Occasionally did sprints but lived for long distance. That was when I was a kid in high school. Thereon, competed at a high level in all sports and ended up joining the US Marines and kicking ass in the Grunts. One step, one mile at a time folks. 😉👍
8:40 I'm not a fan of Jocko's podcast because I recently just gotten into it. But this right here made me respect him even more than I could say. He understood that Echo has made a good point and he also accepted his side as the truth. This is an example of a healthy discussion and disagreement. He backed down and assumed responsibility that both sides can be right. This is subtle or maybe I'm dramatising it but there is no need for one side to win all the time and all answers aren't necessarily black and white.
Good observation. It's about picking battles . Had a conversation with a friend I haven't spoken to in a long time and it got to politics. I know we have some fundamental differences of opinion. I decided that the conversation and friendship was worth more than abstract ideas.
You guys.... I have to say... you really knocked it out of the park with this one. Jocko and your man too, it was just a fantastic talk. I think it’s as close to perfect as you can get. You encompassed it all... no excuses for anyone, while showing how healthy and happy you guys are. Great conversation showing how healthy and sharp your minds have become as a result of conditioning your bodies as you have... and your words... EVERYTHING about this... and importantly the disagreements about the diet. Because your both absolutely right! It’s a dichotomy yes, but it’s the reason why everyone on earth is included in this piece. ITS TIME TO GET IN SHAPE AND THE ONLY THING IN THE WAY IS MY OWN WEAKNESSES.... AND WEATHER I HAVE TO EASE INTO PROPER DIET OR GO BEOWULF AND REACH INSIDE AND PULL OUT THE HARDEST VERSION OF MYSELF....... BOTH ARE POSSIBLE BECAUSE WE ARE ALL BAD ASS AND WE ALL HAVE WHAT IT TAKES AND WE ARE NOT PUTTING THIS OFF ANY LONGER... THIS IS GETTING DONE STARTING NOW. Look at these beautiful monsters I want to be just like them and I want there success too. You have just been inducted as my newest leaders! Thank you for the inspiration brothers! AND NOW LETS GO GET IT!!!!!!
There is such a thing as carbs withdrawal. If you're used to eating carbs and you decide to cut a ton of it out of your diet. You may end up getting headaches and feeling sick. Might last a couple days. Might be good to start slowly getting it out of your diet. That way you're more likely to stick to it.
I started by not allowing myself more than 150 a day and worked down to 100. Below that I got stuck in long-term bouts of feeling groggy and absent minded.
This is exactly what I did! I started July 3rd at 331 lbs. I cut out sugar, breads, and processed foods and started taking my 9 month old for walks on a 4 mile trek. I was rehabbing my shoulder from a rotator cuff repair so I started adding in exercises for my other side. It sucked at the beginning and my hips, knees, and feet were killing me, but I didn't quit! If it hurt to go to fast I slowed down but kept moving and I haven't cheated myself but eating crap. I have cut my carbs but I do get some from fruit but no where near what I used to eat with all the processed crap! So today, Sept 19, 2019, I am down 47 lbs and am active at some point every day. My energy levels are through the roof, my mind is so much more clear than it has been in years, my attitude is so much more positive, I am happier, I love finding ways to be active and even when I feel like I am at a plateau I don't find myself temped to quit or eat crappy because I know how good I am feeling now! I agree with Jocko, that right now I can't cheat but that is because I have found ways to eat things I love in way that meets my goals without guilt or detriment to my goals. I eat cheeseburgers, grilled 90/10 beef with a slice of cheese and avocado and no bun and I am satisfied. I make a smoothie in the morning with 2 cups of fresh fruit from the farmer's market that we froze mixed with a protein shake and MCT that doesn't spike my insulin (I was diagnosed with diabetes on July 11th after I started to make my changes) and I feel great. I am so grateful I made these changes and am seeing the benefits. I discovered Jocko shortly after this through the Joe Rogan podcast while walking and finding that he put into words what I was experiencing about just "getting after it" and being disciplined enough to not rely on motivation resonated with me. I am so grateful and have held onto these mantras. He's right, I am the one that made the changes not him, but I am grateful I have found a place to go to help recharge and reinforce what I know to be true when it gets hard!
19:55 "If you wrote down tonight what you were supposed to do tomorrow, and then you did the things that you were supposed to do. Imagine how that day would feel. And imagine what you'd get done in that day [...] week [...] month [...] year [...] life trajectory"
Had my "I'm done" moment at the top of a staircase. I've been dieting and excersizing for 6 months and lost 70 lbs from my max of 380lbs (swimming worked best for me if anyone sees a familiar number here). I just found Jocko and while I'm happy about my change, I haven't pushed myself almost at all since the initial change of habits. I'm getting after it, starting now.
I took big steps in two stages. Started going to the gym on January 4, 2017 (heavy weight lifting 4-5 days a week), started on a keto diet on February 1 (in front of the fridge with a garbage can throwing out food I bought a few days before). Right now I'm down 145 pounds. Still got a little ways to go but I found something that I can stick with and actually enjoy. I also do 16/8 intermittent fasting pretty much every day, with extended fasts occasionally (I've done up to 48 hours, actually set a PR in the gym a bit over 30 hours in the last time I did this).
bravo on the lifestyle change I fast 16 hours a day too! But 48 hrs seems dangerous, I dont think you should exceed 24 hrs, you gonna start losing muscle mass and brain fluid haha
I went cold turkey on the diet, and easing back into the workout from a long hiatus, it's been two weeks and I'm seeing results already; love your stuff Jocko
Outside of having a medical condition or an extreme health/weight issue - fasting a full 24 hours is very doable. I've been doing it once a year since I was a 13 year-old. Ask anyone who's Jewish, we've been doing it for millennia ;-] If 13 year-old kids can do it, basically anyone can. Hope this is helpful/useful for anyone who wants to try fasting.
I've only just come across Jocko from a random book in a library trolley left beside me while I was on their PCs. As soon as I saw it I was gobsmacked thinking wow I love that title (Discipline = Freedom) and freedom is my mantra in life. So I grabbed that thing and booked it out and it got me jumping out of my skin. I love this guys attitude, it just permeates the world of excuses and speaks to you. Gotta luv that. I already lost 3.5 kilos in 3 days. Go Jocko!
Between 2006 and June 2018 I averaged out the amount of energy drinks I had overall: 2600. I was addicted. Then I listened to the Tim Ferris & Impact Theory podcast where he stresses that everything is a choice. I quit drinking energy drinks in June this year. Easier to quit diet habits than it is to start an exercise habit. At least for me.
If your making a decision to better yourself and your life, no matter if you slowly progress or foot on the floor, be proud of yourself and keep at it. Progress is progress no matter how small or large but always progress
"You know what's interesting-" *Pulls out switchblade* (0.0) I like how he's gesturing the whole time with that knife in a dark room. It's a great aesthetic. But I'm surprised neither of them mentioned habit replacement. Like replacing donuts with a really good tasting chicken salad or good tasting healthy food. That eliminates the need for a cheat day.
After my little sister passed away, we ate out a lot for the next few years and I put on a lot of weight. Turned 18 than went out to the bar every weekend on top of that. Halfway through 20 and I can happily say I haven’t ate any fast food this year and have made improvements on my physical activity. I have a long way to go but feel so much better! Good luck to whoever wants to make changes in their life
I hadn't ran in over a year, and decided to give it a go last monday. I'm on trt so I wanted to know how I'd do. I ran (jogged) 12 miles. Stopped once in the first half mile, felt lactic buildup, and said no. Time to go. I never got tired, and actually ran harder after mile 5. I couldn't walk down stairs without pain until the following monday. That was dumb.
Thank you Jocko, that’s what I was thinking, but I’m glad you agree! Thank you for getting back to me! You and your family have a very Merry Christmas!!!
Love this!! I have been on both sides of the argument. I say.. Go all in and commit! How can you say you need too be healthier but not make the needed changes. That's like saying you need gas but never stop at the gas station to fill up. Jocko said it, "You know what you need to do". DO IT.
I love fasting. On any other type of diet, I find it really easy to cheat on any given day, especially when there is free food at work. Fasting is black and white, and is really easy for me to stick to. No way to rationalize breaking a fast until the time has come.
Reflux and lightheadedness? These are my two biggest issues when trying to intermittently fast. Only way to combat them, to a degree is something like this: eat a small dinner and then go to sleep around 4 hrs later (before I start getting super hungry). I have to basically sleep through the hunger pangs around the 8-9 hr period of not eating; otherwise, I get heartburn and end up eating shit anyway.
Thank you echo for challenging the big J about some people needing to do eating habits slowly. With mental health issues, taking the suggestions literally could f up way more than a muscle. Would love to see J talk with Richard Grannon on this.
I'm a former Marine and got sick of my gut and how I looked overnight. I wasn't that big, but I went ham overnight. Working out 6 days a week. Got back in shape in like a month. I had a hernia like 9 months later, but I had surgery and recovered still working out 5 days a week.
This consistency mentality helped me get my blue belt after years of doing fuck all and being anxious to get back into jiujitsu as I was so unfit.... I had C6/7 fusion surgery in October and I just turned up to class even while I couldn't train which helped a lot getting back into it and I still learned and helped new people... I'm getting after that fucking black belt!!!!
I appreciate Echo Charles approach. He seems more understanding of the struggles and has a lot more mercy that Jocko. If Echo was my trainer/coach, he'd probably get more out of me.
When great minds like Jordan Peterson, Jocko and GSP's head coach Firas Zahabi all say that the key is to smart small and incrementally build up in order to build a consistent habit, then it's probably true.
I used to smoke a pack and a half a day. I tried the patch. I tried the gum. Then I went cold turkey for 10 months before backsliding during a night of drinking. Then I was back on the wagon the next day, but a few weeks later, another cigarette. Slowly, I got back up to 5 or 6 cigarettes a day. Then I made a rule that I wouldn't smoke until after work. That became no cigarettes until after dinner. Then I finally quit, and it's been something like 10 years since I've had a smoke. Never let perfection become the enemy of better.
Cheat sheet for you guys out there that are desperate: Chicken breast, oatmeal with protein powder and coconut oil, EGGS, WATER, tuna/fish, multi-vitamin, DHAE, MORE COCONUT OIL, peanut butter, Almonds (or mixed nuts for us poor folk), Glucosamine (thank me later) and finally a punching bag with some sturdy gloves. Ok the punching bag is optional BUT will give you ridiculous gains in stamina/fat loss if you keep up with it. Boom! That should only be a starting point... now go out there and get shit done! fuck the haters
I've been making "Ice Cream" with protein powder, almond milk, ice, and honey. Great for those who need the sweetness and I guess comfort of ice cream. Plus, it's super low on calories and you get good protein in.
I've lost 85 lbs over 2 years. Cutting sugars and processed carbs out of my diet were the big factors I believe. On top of that I walked, simple steady fast paced walking. I'd throw myself away from my starting base just beyond a distance of comfort. Once I reached that I'd turn around and make my way back. It was uncomfortable, but it was effective. Started walking around the block. One lap and my legs were burning, time for lap two. Next week I was doing 3. Next week I was bored with walking 4 laps around the block so I walked a straight line into town, turning around when I thought if I didn't I wouldn't make it back. Before long I was walking a minimum of 5 to 6 miles a day and 10 on a great day.
Almost the same! I now walk ("ruck") with a weighted rucksack. At least 5 miles a day. Most days. As well as weights. I've done that over six months, though, because I didn't want to injure myself by exploding from Day 1!
I haven't eaten Mcdonalds if 4 years and now I would rather starve before there....rather eat the cardboard the food comes in. That plus many more good decisions helped me go from 220lbs to 165lbs which may sounds small but I am 5' 7" so with exercise its crazy hard to gain weight. Then again, 5 egg whites with almond milk and hemp protein to start my day off at 4am in the morning tends to tell how I think now. by the way, I'm 38 now and made this shift in thought when I was 34 so age doesn't matter much if you shift your purpose....at least if it means that much to you. #Jocko #Echo

Joshua Did you stay on the path? What’s your progress so far? You better be running 5kms by now.
Keep up the good work!!

I agree with this.
I love how they Echo and Jocko balance each other. They both add real value when they debate things.

Don’t be boring
Wallets happy also
Dude Wendy’s twice a day sounds fantastic
Him disagreeing with Jocko is awesome. “There’s not little stuff” “yes there is”
Echo is hilarious! “One, two, three...maybe six, eight donuts.”

Hey Jocko! thought id add my story to this list. I started off last year just shy of 340 lbs stuck working a desk job and through an intense keto diet and slowly ramping up my exercise routines weekly i was capable of losing 140 lbs in just 8 months! For me, the hard core level 9 diet rework is what i needed.
"Take it from a normal human being" lol
Yeah, that cracked me up too. Diet is the hardest thing in the world for me. I have this horribly impulsive personality. I need Jocko to follow me around and slap unhealthy foods out of my hands.

I call this a balanced relationship, lol 😂
When I was watching a dunkin donut commercial was inserted lol
🤣 Jocko, while continually attempting to cut his own hand with the knife, "Yep, still invincible."

Yeah when I had it I bought a foam roller and used that. Turns out foam rolling is just awesome all around.
MattFlowerDrums got 5 slipped discs? GOOD
Vlad Sunseducer not good. Hurts like a mother and multiplies laziness

Way to go.

I wouldn’t disagree with anything Jocko says while he’s holding a knife
That isn't a knife, it is a SOCOM letter opener.

I'm not a fan of Jocko's podcast because I recently just gotten into it.
I started the writing down a checklist for things I need to do the next day. Actually helps tons. And feels great. Awesome self accountability
I love listening to Jocko, but he needs to let people finish their sentence 😂
BOOM
So. True.
He ONLY does this to Echo
@@sangyedorje not true
I mean, he has the knife 😅
I like how they are calmly debating not just agreeing or going on offensive on each other.
There seems to be two aspects of this.
Mentally attack with ferocity; physically be realistic and start at a manageable spot.
What an awesome dude. I'm listening to this on my 3rd day of DOMS after 3 years away from the gym but I'm going back this weekend. Thanks Jocko
Yo, you still getting after it?
But 48 hrs seems dangerous, I dont think you should exceed 24 hrs, you gonna start losing muscle mass and brain fluid haha
bro that's pretty hard core, congrats on the weight loss. Keep up the good work
LJ S Well, some people rather than intermittent fasting do intermittent feasting.
Bruh. I do it every day. I just eat dinner, thats it.
Go Jocko!
Most people don’t push themselves anyway so there is nothing to really ease into.
clemsonalum98
The dude who asked the question, though. He seriously considered going level 99 maximum limitbreak overlord destruction mode
I love the way Jocko makes a point while holding a point.
Good luck to whoever wants to make changes in their life
I love how it's perfectly normal for them to have a conversation while Jocko is holding a knife
The rapport between these two guys is fantastic! I was LOLing the whole time
I hadn't ran in over a year, and decided to give it a go last monday.
Imagine talking to Jocko in a dimly lit room and he keeps pointing his knife at your while he speaks 😂
Wouldn't bother most people that would be around him.
Man I am loving all the motivational small clips of various issues or whatever.... thumbs up ski
Echo: Take it from a normal human
That’s too real.
Love this!! I have been on both sides of the argument. I say.. Go all in and commit! How can you say you need too be healthier but not make the needed changes. That's like saying you need gas but never stop at the gas station to fill up. Jocko said it, "You know what you need to do". DO IT.
Moosetracks squad checking in
Just practicing some of his advice will help.tough love is still love
Echo explaining what an old fashioned donut is to Jocko is definitely one of the highlights of my week
Jocko being blown away about 6 full sized doughnuts while I'm polishing off a dozen Krispy Kremes... I feel attacked
Dude! A dozen?
That's disgusting. Get a grip on yourself
the world could learn from this! 2 adults that can agree to disagree or find common ground.
Echo: " You know what an old fashion donut is right?"
Jocko: " It's a donut with a hole in it"
lol
These guys are hilarious together. Good stuff!
Oatmeal mixed with Choco protein powder is genius.
Plus alot of fiber so it doesn’t just sit in the guy
6 oz Coffee, a smashed twix bar, and 6 hours of PT will do ya.
I've been making "Ice Cream" with protein powder, almond milk, ice, and honey. Great for those who need the sweetness and I guess comfort of ice cream. Plus, it's super low on calories and you get good protein in.
@@JRettMTX I add ice cream cuz I'm the opposite of most following jocko, I'm underweight.
13:00 Is the real life lesson.
Beautifully spoken by both here
I haven't eaten Mcdonalds if 4 years and now I would rather starve before there....rather eat the cardboard the food comes in.
