      The pilots are saying to the ATC's that their hydraulics are failing, and therefore the flight control systems, such as the ailerons, elevator, etc. They are not dismissing the bodies as a mere inconvenience, they are saying to ATC what they need to know in the time of emergency. Panicking and saying bodies are falling does not give the ATC an idea of how to respond with assistance.

      Yeah. This crew was genuinely heroic. Had they made it back to the airport and at least saved the lives of the passenger who were still alive and not dead from the fire and were STILL IN THE AIRCRAFT i firmly believe the Airline Pilots Association would have given them the Gold Medal Award For Heroism like the crew of FedEx 705. Shame the airline they were employed by was a shambolically run catastrofuck. RIP to everyone on Nigerian Airways (Nationair) 2120.

      Certainly, the person opening the door would not survive the event (and adding oxygen to the fire, like when dropping the gear, is also fatal). Plus, the doors open to the outside - so, it can also -immediately- cause catastrophic damage to the aircraft (whether by flying-off and hitting something, or by deforming the fuselage at that point and so on).

      The Alaska air flight from Puerta Vallarta I don't remember the flight# It was in big trouble and was diverting to Los Angeles It made it to the coast. It's possible the passengers could see the airport or signs of the city and safety. Other pilots flying nearby witnessed in real time the plane flying up side down and then corkscrew to the ocean. One witness said solemnly 'there were real people inside that struggling plane'. That gave me chills. . planes in flight are so beautiful so if you ere ever to see one doing something abnormal you would take notice!!!!

    I have seen a half dozen of these aircraft fire incidents and they all end the same way. With everyone on board dead. Their should be a policy that as soon as fire is detected to land immediately. Don't go looking to dump fuel first. Don't go into a landing pattern. Don't even divert to the nearest airport. Land immediately. On a freeway, highway, waterway, river, stream, ocean, field, wherever!

      Just watching this on the National Geographic (cable) channel (in Europe, Belgrade). How ridiculous is it that there aren't cameras monitoring the wheels, (critical) flight control surfaces and so on.
      Today (and also in the recent past), we have the technology even for computers to be able to detect and report, show on a main screen (for example), any and all anomalies analysed. They had removed the flight engineer from the flight cabin, but how big of a mistake was this: to eliminate a redundant system. The role of this extra person could've easily been managed to become something else, a person to have control over various detection sensors, cameras...
      Instead, there are (automated) fire suppression systems, smoke and heat detectors and so on. In this particular accident, had the tyre information been related to the flight crew: they would've known immediately, perhaps even prior to V1, how it's an aborted take-off.
      Accidents will continue to happen in the future, due to the human factor, but *also* due to -unmanaged- automated systems (which fail). The false feeling of supremacy, which aircraft manufacturers hold, must be eliminated and design and manufacture _must_ go back to having double and/or triple redundancy systems. This is something that is crucial and critical - and the more that they come-away from this policy, the more people will die. It's as simple as that. ;-/

      Fire Gamer Well there would still be plenty of fuel left to kill everyone no matter how much fuel they dump. But waiting to land and flying around dumping fuel while the plane is on fire is just plain dumb. Like I said. There are a bunch of videos on here where they wasted time dumping fuel or even trying to get to another airport, all the while everyone burned alive and finally the pilots too and the plane crashed. There are also videos where the pilots didn't waste time dumping fuel and landed immediately and everyone survived. Forget everything else. If you're on fire, land that fucker.

    I was in Jeddah working in a car maintenance workshop very close to Jeddah airport. I witnessed their last horrifying moments in this plane crash incident. The plane was on a go around back to the airport due to fire at the rear portion of the plane, some passengers jumped off the plane. As the plane descend for the landing approach to the runway, and as it passed above us, I clearly saw the cabin door was opened and some passengers are standing near the door, the fuselage started slightly to bend...as the plane passed the highway and airport perimeter fence, the plane apparently loss control and nose dive and hit the ground (a few meters from the runway) it exploded with a big flames of fire and a tick black mushroom like smoke..no passengers survived.

    was flt engineer on a c131. a master rod cyliner had a bearing failure which allowed the oil control ring the teavel beliw the cylinder skirt. with no oil control the cylinder was pumping oil into the exhaust and filling the augmentor tube with oil when we went to emergency check list we changed the throttle settings and the oil puddling in the augmentor lit off we had us a fire in the augmentor. the fire suppression in that area was a no go. flames were streaming from the rear of the augmentor and melting the flap. we were on a final so we put down as fast as possible. we did with minimum damage . but the damage was one flap, one engine, and several structural members in the nacelle. we were lucky. our aircrew was well trained in emergency proceedures.

      The pilots had no idea how bad the fire was when they were flying over the water. You gotta place yourself in the perspective of the pilots. Think of it like this: You have no idea that your plane is on fire and all you know is that it’s hard to control the plane. You are well aware of how difficult and risky water landings are. You know that if you attempt a water landing, chances will not be on your side as your plane is extremely difficult to control. You are also aware that the airport is only a couple more miles away. From that perspective which option is better: Land a plane with disabled controls into the ocean and hope that the plane somehow doesn’t break apart or do you decide to continue onto the airport that is only a couple minutes away? Chances are that any trained pilot would decide to continue onto the nearby airport if they could make it; it’s the safer option.

      Underinflated tires that the mechanic noticed were below the minimum for flight dispatch. He tried to inflate them, but there was no nitrogen gas available. And as always seems to happen, the project manager for the flight didn't want a delay, and readied the plane for flight anyway.

    Not here to assign blame or whatever, but I'm a pilot an genuinely curious as to their decision making.
    They pilots knew there was a fire onboard, but how long more were they flying after receiving the information that the cabin was filled with smoke from the flight attendant? Seems like a pretty long time to me since the fire had so much time to burn through the fuselage and cabin floor.
    So why didnt they just put the plane down in the desert? I know the desert floor isn't necessarily flat, but I would assume that there would at least be a patch wide and long enough and probably easier to get to than a runway in a plane with control issues

  • @stevemcleod1124
    @stevemcleod1124 10 лет назад +4

    The aircraft took off with two flat tires that, due to friction, caught fire. The landing gear was raised and the fire burned into the cabin. The aircraft exploded prior to reaching the runway. As for the comment about opening the doors in flight, the forward doors on a 747 can be opened in flight to remove smoke if need be.

    Loss of flight controls is the worst for any pilot. The fact that they were only 2 miles away from the runway was pretty unfortuntely, but a testament to how hard the crew tried to save everyone.

  • @jubs0000
    @jubs0000 4 года назад +82

    So here is what happened. It was taking off when it hit something on the runway, with the landing gear becoming dislodged. It was actually under the fuel tank. It flew upwards, igniting the flames.
    The explosion destroyed all hydraulics, which is why they can't turn. In the cabin, it took just a second for everyone to realize that the whole plane is on fire.
    People left and right are choking to their deaths. Meanwhile, the pilots attempted to turn back. But they had no idea that the hydraulics were destroyed as they were attempting to land.
    Just 2,000 feet from the ground,
    the captain (or maybe first officer)
    lowered the landing gear. Unfortunately, it ignited a spark. Just one little tiny spark blew up the whole plane. It ended up diving straight into the desert.

      jpb0000
      That’s not what happened. What actually happened is:
      The DC-8 actually had under-inflated tires in the landing gear because Nation Air rushed through maintenance and didn’t fill up the tires to save time. The crew of the plane had no idea that the plane had under-inflated tires and took off as usual. Eventually the tires ran out of pressure and just dragged along the runway for several hundred meters, heating them up. When the pilots retracted the landing gears, they unknowingly put a severely overheated landing gear next to critical hydraulic lines and ventilation, leading to a massive fire and a failure in those systems. As the fire grew bigger, more pieces of the plane tore away with other functions such as ailerons failing as well. When the plane was just two miles from the runway, it finally became uncontrollable and crashed just 9,000ft from the runway. It was later determined that as soon as the pilots took off and retracted the landing gear as normal, they didn’t stand a chance. Everyone was doomed the instant they took off.
