    Let's not forget that Brett inspired an international pop hit when a teenage girl in New Zealand named Lourde (who knew nothing about baseball) saw an old picture of a cute guy with a shirt that said "Royals" and wrote a song of the same name.

    George Brett is one of the 3 greatest hitters I ever got to see play in person.
    The other 2 are Tony Gwynn and Wade Boggs.

    Let's hear it for Bobby Witt Jr.! He posted a 9.4 WAR this year, tying Brett's .390 1980 season for best WAR ever for a Royals position player.

  • @flame-sky7148
    @flame-sky7148 Месяц назад

    1980 MVPs Brett and Schmidt met in the World Series of 1980. Hopefully we get Yanks and Dodgers in the World Series that has both MVPs of 2024, featuring Ohtani and Judge. By the way Brett played in only 119 games when he hit .390. If it's ever done again, that player would have to barely play the minimum required. Those Royal v. Yanks rivalry of the late 70s early 80s were lit.

    One can argue who the greatest 3B is... but Brett is the lock pick for best in the postseason. In ALCS and World Series games he hit 10 HR, and had a slash line of .350/.461/662 with a 1.123 OPS. In 40 games... which means Brett, who averaged 19 HR/162 in his career, averaged 41/162 in the ALCS and World Series.

    • @blakecscott5525
      @blakecscott5525 17 дней назад +1

      @@mickraker1342 Schmidt is the best defensively and has the best power of the 3, Boggs is the best contact hitter, and Brett splits the difference. Boggs's WAR numbers are great, but I just can't call a slow runner who hits 8 home runs a year the best third baseman... And Brett is far and away the best in Championship and World Series play despite Schmidt's WSMVP.

    I often debate who was better, Mike Schmidt or George Brett. Brett, the better hitter, Schmidt a better fielder and power. I would think a pitcher would want to face Schmidt because he was much more likely to strike out than Brett.
