I don't think that American Barbell gets its due respect. They are one of the best looking, feeling (so I've heard) bars on the market.

100% agree here. They just don't spend the $ on marketing that people like Rogue and Rep do. It's almost all word of mouth. And yes, they make the absolute best bars on the market for garage gyms. There are some $1200 IPF spec bars out there that are nicer, but for training at home those are pointless. I'll take this AB bar (or really any of their bars, I have several) over anyone else at this point.

I went back and forth so many times. It's really hard for me to buy something like this that I absolutely don't need. But 7 months later and I couldn't be happier with it. And, I was able to sell a couple of my older bars to pay for it!

Thanks! I've been gaining body fat and losing muscle while dealing with health issues 😐. It's been a blast the last 2 years, lemme tell ya! I can't wait for the string of comments about how I don't look like I train on all the videos that will be coming out now that I'm healthy again.😂

So excited to see you back! How does this bear compare to their older bars? I got the grizzly bar based off your recommendations a few years ago and have the save feelings about knurling as you do.

Thanks! If I didn't do GymCrafter for a living, I'd still be lifting with that original Grizzly bar. it was the very first "nice" barbell I'd ever bought and I still use it today for some lifts. If you like yours, there's no need to change. If you find yourself wanting a ton more grip in the knurl, the Chewy bar is a great upgrade. As far as the new version of the Grizzly power bar, I haven't seen one in person yet, but it looks like they added the TIG weld around the shoulder, but all else looks to be the same.

Awesome review! So you mind mentioning which version you have? Like 20V I’m guessing?

20 TPI. The more I use it, the more I like it. I'll be reviewing at least one of their other power bars soon as I don't think this makes a great all purpose barbell for people only buying one barbell for their gym. But if you have an all around bar AND this one, it's an amazing combo!

I have a less expensive American Barbell bar (the Grizzley Power Bar) and it is also made very well. I particularly love the knurling. And their chrome hoods up great, whether on the sleeves or the rest of the bar.

I've had the Grizzly power bar for years and really like it. It gets knocked for not having a sharp enough knurl, but I actually really like how the TPI is much higher. I think the Grizzly is very grippy without being sharp. It's one of the many nice things about that bar!

Nice bar. What are the differences btw the chewy and the grizzly and elite?

    • @GymCrafter

@@tadleyironwood7595 great question, as much as I like AB, their site isn't the best, especially their complete lack of product images! The Grizzly bar (which I have) is their basic power bar. It's steel with a hard chrome finish. The Elite is the same bar, but with a stainless steel shaft (and better feel IMO because of it). Both the Grizzly and the Elite have a knurl pattern unique to American Barbell. It's a very tight TPI and not aggressive at all. It reminds me of the grip tape on a skate board. I love that knurl for a lot of people, especially those that don't like the sharp feeling of a traditional "aggressive" knurl. It's very grippy without being sharp or painful at all. It's also very easy on your hands. The Chewy bar is basically the Elite with a different knurl. The knurl on the Chewy is veryaggressive, but not painful like some (Rep, Rogue, etc). Hope that helps! If not, lemme know what I missed.

@@GymCrafter sounds right up my ally. And some smooth sleeves would be nice for a change

@@tadleyironwood7595 I love AB knurling. Its plenty grippy, IMO, but it does not tear up your hands. Even with heavy (for me) rack pulls, my hands don't get chewed up.
