Eleiko IPF Powerlifting Training Bar - $1100 Bargain?

- Опубликовано: 5 фев 2023
- Today we take a look at the newly announced Eleiko IPF Powerlifting Training Bar, which I've been lucky enough to have been testing out the past 9 months or so. Eleiko is viewed as the premium equipment manufacturer in powerlifting and weightlifting and boy do these prices reflect it. However, is it possible that this $1100 barbell can actually be considered a bargain? Let's take a look.

I told my wife the home gym cost less than $1,100 total.

*coughasquarefootcough*
Lol
I did a workout with my assault runner, rhino belt squat, and ghd. My fiance asked how much that workout costs so I pointed her at your home gym overview video. Thanks for making me look responsible.
HAPPY TO HELP 😭
🤣😂
The graphite infusion bushings are a pretty solid choice here. Graphite being a lubricant is exposed over time as the bushing wears. That might sound a little scary. " You mean as my bushing has to get worn and loose in order to be lubricated !! " This is somewhat truth but in this application, those bushing wil likelyl out last bearings.
Many motors now use bushing infusion with various lubricants. They last years at high rpms and under high torque. Odds are your dishwasher motor, fan on your hvac unit, and most other medium to small applications will have them.
Bearing are a more mechanical method of friction reduction, meaning they have moving parts. Bushing like these have no moving parts, so over time, they are affected less. The downside to the bushings is they they can have a tendency to crack. This is due to the hardness required of the bushing and the fact that (on a microscopic scale) the structure is infusion with the lubricant making it slightly more prone to cracking. This is especially true of cheap bushing manufacturered overseas. The infusion quality can leave areas when the lubricant has a different density through the material, leading to weak areas sustainable to cracking.
I mention this because it can be a problem with bushings and I am assuming someone will mention it somewhere 🤔 😉
I dont see cracking or split bushing on this bar as being a problem. You almost always see that in small bushings and not in larger bushings, which this bar would have. The extra material in a larger bushing helps give strength to any small area sustainable to forming a crack. A 1500lb rating may seem huge but you are going to have at least 4 bushing here and each of those bushing would be rated (I am assuming a few things here) at 650 to 800lb each. They could be rated for much more but in the least the bushings are 3600lb capable.
If I had a choice between bearing or bushings on a bar like this... I would go bushings every time. -David
Great to know, appreciate the insight David!
Nice review. I love the comparisons. I also like the slop and drop tests. I’m working some vintage York barbell reviews. I’m adding slop and drop haha.
Slop and Drop™ 😂
Liking the new jcups with the white between the UHMW... It's a nice touch and stands out.
New Oak Club cups!
Nice bar and thorough review, as always! The Oak J-Cups look primo!
I really like their slim profile!
I have the comp bar and love it.
I just have rogue collars on it all the time to bring the plates out from the rack.
I also have the Ok
Ohio power bar and can honestly say I found it pretty much as good as the Eleiko.
I know a rep and got the Eleiko with 30% off and then got the Vat back through a business, so 50% off.
Also got plates and a bench so by the time I was finished the bar was pretty much free.
I also hate endcaps, love the look of the end of an Eleiko bar.
50% off makes it a heck of a better option!
Hey Brandon, great video! My Eleiko IPF Competition Bar has chrome sleeves as well.
Right on!
Hi Jose
I was most interested in seeing another basement brandon equipment review video. kabuki power bar and AB chewy are my daily drivers for reference!
Maybe I'll do a video comparing them all.
If I ever decided to buy an Eleiko, seems like the only one that makes sense for a basement gym. Glad you finally were allowed to do a review on this one!
I'm stoked it came out b/c I was about to spend $1200 on the bare steel one 😅
@@BasementBrandon We need you and the rest of the world to keep pestering Buddy Capps to release the 29mm TPB and life would be a double order of cool beans!
It remains a known issue
See you doing the elevated heel squats. Any recommendation for wedges? Also, what is the red curved thing on the back right of the rogue rack at 10:30?
So these ones are from Oak club. They're pretty minimal and can hang on my rack when not in use. I'd just look for something that doesn't break the bank and has the ideal angle you're looking for. You can even just use change plates if you want a cheap (free) option. That red thing is the Rogue Mobility Hand.
We are so spoiled these days. Back in the 80s when I started, a York bar was the standard good bar. They all had a nice patina of old rust and the knurling was well worn. Your main concern was finding one that was straight. We still got big and the hardcore energy was great.
Always nice to have toys
hey old timer, with the weight brandon's lifting he'd be bending a york bar every week. buy once cry once.
Love the trolling of the "FU for reviewing something expensive!" crowd. Great review again.
I always try to frame things appropriately b/c everyone has different budgets, but this one is a tough one 😅
Brandon + New Bar = Sweet Video. Cheers.
Thanks Gavin!
Thank you for the good review. I am interested to see how the app. works with the bar. Sadly they do not seem to have any sensor kit available to sell with the bars that add another EUR 869 to the bar.
I'm interested too, but I would worry if you're spending that much on a sensor, you'd want compatibility with any bar like some of the more popular velocity trackers available.
Would you still go with this bar or would a stainless steel OPB be better? Also what is that cable thing when you DL at 7:57?
Let me try to frame this right... I feel like the Eleiko is a better quality built bar, but the margin at which it is better is not as significant as the price difference would make one assume. If I were buying a SS power bar right now I'd actually go with the Hansu.
@@BasementBrandon Really??? Haven't heard much about that bar. Thanks I was going to ask the same question Elekio vs OPB.
great review. We need this cause not many ppl out there gonna review an eleiko bar anyways = ) Maybe you could do a cool comparison review between this Eleiko bar, the KPB, the AB chewy, ivanko OBX, and rogue SS OPB or aggro variants. The bougie ones of us (me) would love it ... but yeah probably would trigger everyone else -_-
Also we needed a NSFW warning before the barbell sleeve slop test!! xD. maybe put an abmat landmine grip on that next time 😏sigh my mind is in the gutter.
I think I can do that (the barbell comparison that is) 🤪
Great video. Though I have no interest in getting the bar myself, I enjoy the review and you discussing a bar I'll likely never see. Thanks for this one B
Thanks Brad!!
The ab bat plate spacers work amazingly well.
The foam ones? Or the new band ones?
I’ll probably never get one of those bars but it’s always nice to see a review
Thanks for taking a look!
Love my Eleiko training bar (IWF). Trying to figure out if I should put it in a rack (chrome) or get a different bar (beater)
Tough call!
Awesome review. Do you get charge with customs fee when ordering from Eleiko to USA? Im in Canada but I am pretty sure we do get added fees.
Already have the SS OPB, so I wouldnt get this one because my wife knows more than me the cost of the whole gym 😅
So Eleiko has a location in Austin Tx, so no import fees.
Probably gonna get this, have you tried the enode bar sensors or heard anything about them? If price wasn’t a consideration, are they something you’d think would be useful to training?
I have experience with wireless sensors (Calibrex) and tethered ones (RepOne). In my brief uses, the tethered option has worked much better.
Nice review. My 20 year old Cap bar is holding up fine. Probably spent $200 for bar and 250 lbs of weight.
Hell yeah!
Great video. I noticed there was a black object on the bar when you were deadlifting and it looked like something was magnetically attached to the weight plates when you were benching...looked like some form of retractable cable was attached. What is that device? Is it meant to track your bar path?
It's a RepOne velocity tracker. I'm playing around with it to see if it aids in my training and assessments of RPE.
my gym has an eleiko bar but there is no weight shown on the side. The only number on the bar is next to the Eleiko Logo with 1105 printed on it. Does anyone know how heavy this bar is?
What does the endcap look like? LIkely 20kg.
The intro is brilliant.
Just trying to get out in front of it!
I have the PL Training bar and would love the SS upgrade but may be hard to find a buyer for my old bar on Marketplace.
Yeah I think unless you found a very specific buyer it would be hard to recoup most of the cost.
Cool bar and stuff but where’d you get those green shorts???
They're from Ten Thousand CC
But but but steel pipe from Home Depot and cement weights for $100🤓 this bar is beautiful, and the name Eleiko is just plain cool. Great review man!
PVC is even cheaper!
I agree it is the best power lifting bar eleiko makes. especially since it is stainless steel. Thanks for reassuring my thoughts! What is your opinion on the eleiko competition weightlifting bar vs the eleiko weightlifting training bar vs the rogue pyrros bar? i think eleiko is probably the best, but i go back and forth because the pyrros bar is stainless steel.
TBH I haven't used them so can't really offer any helpful insight.
I have the bare steel competition bar because it was on offerup for $600. If I didn't have that I definitely would've considered this bar.
Great deal!
How does this compare to the Titan Blues bar? 🤣 Thanks for the review B! Beats folding Flybird benches in half.
Hah def a point of diminishing returns.
I am on the waitlist at American Barbell for their chewy 25 TPI bar. I think their fit and finish of the bar, how it is shipped, etc. is one of the best out there. I knew about the 20 TPI but once I found out about the 25 I asked Shea to cancel the quote. It’s about $500 less than the Eleiko too. I know that it’s “Eleiko” and they are the best when it comes to Olympic bars. Might get one of those….if they ever decide to go stainless on them. Not sure why but I’ve gotten to where I thumb my nose at a chrome coating on the shaft. Anybody else that way or is it just me. It just seems like a substandard product these days.
I actually went the other route, cancelled my 25 to get the 20 as I prefer a chunkier feel. Looking forward to them making a 16-18 aggro bar.
@@BasementBrandon Yes sir, on the 16-18 list as well!
@@BasementBrandonis American Barbell planning and Aggro-Style Chewy Bar?
@@hoondackymaheez5161 we're talking to them about it!
The word training with the $1100 is what scared me initially... I immediately thought of their weightlifting aluminum technique bars which are light to practice movements... Elieko is pricy but $1100 is not crazy for them especially for a stainless steel version that is better than the competition version for that reason... Wise choice on the SS version, make your own stickers for peace of mind if you are not hosting meets but still really wanted the competition version.
I have a weightlifting russian style bar called the power lock which with the special collars might be the most expensive bar they made and it's not stainless either.. I got it used for way less... It is the best weightlifting bar I've ever used and the bumpers are locked super securely because of the design. Yes it's completely overkill but clearly their is a market for elieko and premium bars or they would not exist. It's better made than any other bar I own and I have multiple rogue bars and two ivanko barbells in the stable at the moment.
Yeah the funny thing is those technique power bars (10kg) are still like $500 😅
What is the difference between the training bar and competition bar? I see this differentiation also with other brands.
In this case here the competition bar is bare steel and is the one that Eleiko paid to be IPF approved, so it's the same as you'll find at their meets.
The sleeves of the bar are grooved or without grooves??
And how's the knurl?
Grooved. I'd say medium knurl, simiar to an OPB
Do you know what their justification is for making the bare steel bar $100 more than the stainless?
I think part of it is the process of being IPF approved (cover fees), lifetime warranty, engrave a serial number on it, etc.
What are you tugging on there with the retractable cord on your DL and bench? That looks like gym tech to me, Brandon 🧐
It's a RepOne velocity tracker.
I just got the Bells go Steel bar and it’s because of the similarities of the collars. I wonder how does that compare to this? Knowing that this is probably hella better
The BOS power bar is solid. May not be as good as an Eleiko but it’s pretty good. Especially since it’s 1/6 the price of an Eleiko.
It won't have as nice as fit and finish, but it's like 1/5 the price, which is probably more ideal 😜
Does eleiko ship to india and wl the packaging be good for the long journey?
Not sure!
if price wasn't a problem, would you choose the eleiko competition bar or this training bar?
I'd choose this b/c I prefer stainless as a finish.
Hansu SS vs This Eleiko SS? If price wasn’t a factor , which is the better bar?
I like the Hansu better. I like the longer center knurling and a tad more aggressiveness.
I’m in the category of:
Doesn’t matter what Big Brandon’s posting I’m going to watch.
Appreciate you dude.
what shoes u had in this video?
Tolos
We need a review on the squeezebar
Seems like too much of a fad to me, but we will see!
Very nice barbell. I’m on the fence about it as I’ve already an obscene barbell arsenal (Eleiko, Schnell, Uesaka, Ironwolfe), and my wife will “flip” when she finds-out I bought this barbell. Still, after seeing your (excellent) review, I may just have grown the cajones to buy it, though I just cannot justify it. BTW, how does this barbell compare to the Eleiko Hybrid Bar (which they don’t sell anymore) with regards to corrosion and performance?
I don't have the hybrid so can't really comment. It's held up great with use here for almost a year with no cleaning, but I have a temp controlled environment. Still on the look out for some Uesaka, Leoko and Iron Wofles.
@@BasementBrandon Thanx, Brandon. My 92-inch Ironwolfe is my primary bar cuz it has 2-inch clearance on each side of my 48-inch wide Samson rack, hence I don’t “bang;” it also has a custom knurl pattern akin to the Eleiko Rack Bar, thus the rack does not get damaged. It was custome made for me by Keith Wolfe. I may have one for you, too.
@@keysersoze5920 Let me know 😅 A few years back I reached out to the Wolfe Tool & Machining company to see if they could make any more bars, but never heard back.
@@BasementBrandon Hello again Brandon. After further consideration, I’ve decided not to sell my back-up Ironwolfe barbell. However, I am willing to sell one of my back-up Schnell power bars (it’s still in the tube, thus it’s new) since I currently have 3; interested?
@@keysersoze5920 Shoot me an email (in description) if you don't mind. Not as familiar with them.
What barbell do they use for squats in the USAPL?
It just has to meet certain specs. In my area they use Eleiko bars, but I often times see Rogue OPB and Texas Power Bars as well.
@@BasementBrandon I appreciate the response..I wasn’t sure if they used a 55lbs bar..Thanks a lot!!
Do you still have your Ivanko bar? Seems like a better comparison than Rogue.
I do. The Ivanko prob has the best build quality of any of the bars that I own, but the downside to it is a pretty passive knurl, high price, and black oxide shaft. Maybe I'll do a bougie bar review against my most expensive bars.
@Basement Brandon would love that. Comparison to Kabuki and/or American Barbell might be interesting too.
An intrestring take, as always.
Thanks Alex!
I hope you maintained good eye contact with the bars while you were “testing” the sleeve slop
They know who's the boss.
My main beef with chrome sleeves is pulling chunks of plating out of my thumbs.
I think if hard chrome is done right it's not a big issue.
@@BasementBrandon My American Barbell Grizzley sleeves are holding up great. Hard chrome is good stuff.
As soon as you mentioned the sensor my brain went into justification mode because of the extra features which I’m sure is an additional cost
sensor adds another $900 🤯
@@BasementBrandon yea sooooooo about that I'll just wait for your review
I did not spend less than $1,100 on my total gym. Keep the good content coming.
Haha appreciated.
This is one of those bars that as I watch this, I think I’ll never buy one. But then a year or two down the road I can I see myself going, but what if I did buy one?
I've fallen into that trap way too often 😅
How are those oak club jcups?
I just got them 3 days ago, but really low profile and secure with a pin in the back, so pretty nice so far!
Really nice power bar that does not work with 49 inch racks, even with 1 small change plate the space is still not enough, especially for those who have to walkout for wider squat stance and got used to competition rack
I floated the idea of adding optional spacers in with the bar. They tested some but decided not to pursue.
@@BasementBrandon My friend has the Eleiko bar and tried the abmat sled spacer but it just felt so awkward to use so he sold the monster rack and got a R3, I am sure this bar will work perfectly with your Sorinex competition bench
Makes a Kabuki PB seem cheaper - well played sir!
Don't get me wrong, I like my KPB, but even that is a bit overpriced for what it is. Maybe I'll do a big power bar video.
Eleikos are so nice, but the price tag is just crazy steep compared to a Rogue or Texas Bar.
Yeah it's really hard to justify for most people, especially considering there's so many here in the US that don't compete on a thin collared bar.
Not sure how I feel about a velocity tracking option. At this price point, you're going to want something very accurate and I don't think you're going to get best-in-class with an IMU. If you can afford this barbell, you should be able to afford a linear encoder option or something like the GymAware Flex.
Yeah I haven't had the best of luck with sensors like this, plus I would worry you can't use it with any other barbell.
I know I’ll never spend that much on a bar but still interested in it
Right on!
Is my TV on the fritz or no 4K on this vid?
It's not you it's me. I accidentally fat fingered one of the dials so it only recorded in 1080
@@BasementBrandon that’s good, I only just bought the new TV 😅
Bought my Eleiko IPF Competition bar back at the start of the pandemic for $1K before tax in 2020. Now $200 more? Whew 😥 That sticker must’ve took a lot more $$$ to produce 😅
The real game is to get into the sticker business I guess
That is prob the best built training bar in the world. If I had an extra $1k I would buy a forever bar like that!
One of those nice but not necessary type deals!
My home gym passed the $1100 figure before it was even built.
one of us!
"Utah! Get me two!"
Vaya con Dios.
I can't justify that kind of money for a weight bar no matter what the specs. Even if I could afford it, which technically I could, I'd never buy it. Is that bar going to make me stronger, my technique better, my lifts heavier than if I use a Rogue OPB or a Texas Power Bar? Nope. I don't see the need. That's a "hey look at me bar". It's not going to make me any better than any other bar, period. As Usual, great video/review. Great channel.
Agreed, I think the sweet spot for this bar is those who actively lift in the IPF and want to emulate the experience, or just like having higher end brands/items. It's a great bar, but you could get 2 great bars for this price.
@@BasementBrandon If you're lifting In IPF events or a pro lifter I get it.
I just like your videos, lol
My dude!
Might just get 3 to have one at each station
Sounds legit.
Stainless steel shafts deserve stainless steel sleeves. Can’t change my ocd mind
SS sleeves... OVER RATED.
PR or no pr, there are always tears on my bars 😭
I feel ya!
So....definitely not buying this bar (waaaaaay out of my price range), but extremely interested in it! Great review!
Thanks Marc!
$700 better than the 20kg OPB?
nvm at the end now lol
I've heard from a few of the top IPF guys they feel the Eleiko is stiffer under heavy load, but David Woolson prefers to train on the Rogue vs his comp eleiko. So basically i'm no help.
Hitting the rack on walk out is 1000x more frustrating than it should be. But it still frustrates me x1000…..
agreed!
I too am not a bushings guy
🤪
It's interesting since the stainless power bar is usually the most expensive version of a brand. Perhaps Eleiko thinks the IPF registration fee and lifetime warranty makes the competition bar more expensive😂
Yeah a bit surprising to me as well!
Just wish it had stainless sleeves instead of chrome
How come?
@@BasementBrandon Good question. Over time, my barbell has developed rust at the hand positions as the chrome has worn off. Chromed smooth sleeves wear similarly from plate friction and are prone to flaking over time. Would be nice to have the benefits of stainless throughout.
Consume product get excited for next product. Beep boop beep.
Yep
My homegym is free. A gifted yoga mat 🤣🤣
Can't beat that price.
Btw im asking how much weight can a 15lb barbell hold The one with the scew on and can u do a reveiw😁
If you know the brand they usually disclose. In most cases, it's extremely low.
Yeah I want it. Don’t need it and that doesn’t matter at all.
Makes sense!
Brandon with the right hook to the brokie crowd 😅 no for real not in the market for a higher end bar such as this but people need to get off the ‘everything is overpriced because I squat in a scrap wood rack
Just trying to get out in front of the obvious feedback 🤓
In the words of Mr. Simmons: you can have $100 shoes and a 10¢ squat. Much better options out there to get stronger at home.
To be fair though Louie came out with a ton of single use pieces of machinery that are extremely over priced 😇
@@BasementBrandon u got me there 🤣. Still love your channel

I'm due for one for sure. With my current RTS programming I've been doing the same thing for the last 4 weeks. Trying to hold off until we have a pivot so I can talk about it. But if not by the end of this week I'll get something out.
Right on. Very curious to see how different the Evolve is to RTS and how you feel about it
I told my wife we saved money by building our homegym.
She admitted the other day that she doesn't tell me about everything she buys...
Lol don't ask, don't tell!
My home gym cost 1100, maybe.
Right on
That's a sexy ass bar but I'd get my ass kicked if I spent $1100 on a barbell lol
truth!
eleiko competition "bare" isnt really bare steel even tho eleiko themself label it as bare steel (which is weird that premium company with such high prices doesnt tell you this when you spend that kind of money for barbell.. whatever).. its mixed with a very little bit of chromium but not enough to be stainless, and it rusts pretty badly.. and also raises price to the nonsense levels..
overall very weird product
StrongArm does this on their bars as well but they're more of a budget brand.
The play in those sleeves are ridiculous?! Better than rogue but both appalling from a engineering stand point. I was tempted by this bar but that's put me right off 👎
It's still a better built bar than some, but given the price point you'd expect the best.
Nope , that bar would have to make money
Maybe I need to spam this video out a million times so the bar would pay for itself in views
