- Today we take a look at the Luxiajun Mastery Power Bar in stainless steel. This bar checks all the boxes in what I look for in a good power bar, but can it replace my tried and true Rogue Ohio Power Bar? Let's find out...

April Fools video idea: Best Lifting Gloves review, you’re an old man now Brandon, time to keep your hands soft & supple
😂😂😂
Lol if i weren't so lazy this would be a good idea.
You look like one of those burglars from home alone.
Marv or Harry?
@@BasementBrandon The one with the beanie of course.
dude he is Corey Mathews without hair get it right
The level of details you provide are second to none B. I learn something from every video I watch. Kudos.
Thanks brother
This barbell is indeed a beast! Huge Lu Xiaojun fan here as well and that might have played a role.
Sad to see they don't seem to be selling in the US anymore.
I’m imagining squatting with this bar already! I’m hyped to give this bar a go.
Really pleasantly suprised.
I wanted to get this on Black Friday but I was waiting for a review but now its out of stock already. At least its out there. Much appreciated
Ah sorry to hear :(
Damn it, Brandon! Now I have to get a new bar!
welcome to my world.
I hear ya. Brandon made me replace my aging Texas Power Bar with the stainless steel Luxiajun Mastery Power Bar.
Love that more companies are making stainless bars more affordable.
agreed!
Review the American Barbell Elite Power Bar. I'm debating on purchasing the LU power bar or the AB Elite. I know the knurl is totally different but I would like to hear your comments on it.
I just have a hard time paying over $500 for a bar, but never say never.
@@BasementBrandon they have a 10% with code BARBELL10 now, that bar comes out to about $470 shipped
@@BasementBrandon I finally gave in tonight. Hoping the hype is real and it can basically act as a SS Ohio Bar w/ a center knurl for rack lifts. I'll eventually settle on a first aggressive power bar to try out, but think that the SS Ohio as an OHP and rows bar and Elite as a squat/bench bar will be a decent combo. Got the ODL bar for deads, so I maaaaay be able to chill out on purchases for a while. I gotta find out what the mountain vs volcano knurling is all about though, eventually!
@@persistentconsistency Sounds like quite the spending spree!
@@BasementBrandon You ain't lying, haha! I cancelled the Absolute Black Oxide order, so I'll have the SS Ohio Bar, AB Elite, and ODL for now. Should get the job done nicely!
Seems like the the competition collars could be a potential con since it’s easier to hit the uprights on squat walk outs depending on rack and j cup width.
Could be if you have a sloppy walk out!
I do that quite often but its not even as bad as people make it out to be
@@getstrongby4038 when I had a 49” rogue rack and their standard j cups would happen often at first (eventually adjusted). With 47” rep rack and sandwich cups hasn’t happened once but I have always used standard size collar bars
@@sadisticbutcher yeah I'm not sure what size my rack is, all I know is its a UK copy of a rogue r3 🤣
Since i got the titex bar I've hit the rack more on Ohp than squats. But I think the pros outweigh that con all things considered, feels so much better on the squat and bench
Just ordered mine yesterday! Buddy of mine got one and I tried it a couple months ago, I was really impressed.
Enjoy it
It sounds like a good bar but I prefer a narrower center knurling. It seems like a good idea because you'd think "Oh, more knurl = more grip" but then I never felt any more stable with a Texas Squat bar than with an Ohio Power Bar. And actually, I think the wider center knurling can make it harder to find the middle of the bar for squats (I hold the bar pretty narrow so the rings don't help much).
Appreciate the feedback!
Interesting observation! That makes a lot of sense to me.
I have an e-coat OPB but between seeing Yuyu using this and yourself, I think I'm convinced. I wanted to get an SS OPB but I'm a fan of Lu so here we go. I just hope the thin collar won't be an issue, I do bang the rack sometimes.
Def humbles you if you have a 49” wide rack
Looks like a nice bar, I would throw another stainless power bar in the mix...American Barbell Mammoth Bar. It's a great bar and quality is 2nd to none.
I thought about mentioning it but I wasn't sure of the price point ($550)
@@BasementBrandon American barbell elite power bar may be more comparable. Heard great things but can’t find a well made review anywhere
@@BasementBrandon Yeah you are right its probably a bit more then those others...I think when I bought mine it was $495 but they may have increased and they dont show it now as its out of stock.
@@NorthernYankee It's still 495 on their site, but they're pushing a 10% coupon. They had free shipping on black friday, but I think it's back to regular shipping now.
@@NorthernYankee I haven’t owned one but heard the craftsmanship is great albeit the knurl may be more medium than aggressive.
So glad I jumped at your recommendation and grabbed this bar during the black Friday sale. My bar has every feature you listed, and is beautiful to look at as well. I now have the ISF stainless power bar, the American Barbell Mammoth Bar, and the M1. The M1 is the finest of the 3. (The Mammoth Bar is still the favorite among my members due to it's sticky knurl.
I'm glad you got a good copy. Someones in the comments mentioned theirs was sub-par, hoping it was an isolated issue.
@@BasementBrandon I guess it's a crapshoot when you're dealing with imoorted equipment from China. Although I believe Lu Xiaojun's own name is on the line and he likely demands the highest standards possible for equipment with his namesake.
Literally just bought one and I’m very excited for its arrival!
Let me know what you think!!
@@BasementBrandon thanks man I will! Your reviews are really helping me shape the garage.
I own the E1 power bar and I had much the same experience you talked about. The knurling seems abit “rougher” than the black zink rogue bar I was using pre-pandemic. Buttt now that I got used to it, I love it. The bar doesn’t spin as well as the rogue bar either, even thought when I 1st unboxed the bar it was covered in a lot of oil. Once I got the oil off found it to be perfect for the big 3 where spin doesn’t matter quite as much as say clean/snatch. No regrets, especially considering there were no other options at the time of my purchase. 😂
appreciate the insight, haven't used the E1 power bar!
What is your opinion of the knurl on this bar? As far as how aggressive do you think it is?
Have you ever tried out the Elitefts 5 rings bar? Wish they would start making it again but with a 29mm shaft rather than the 28.5mm that it has previously had. I think you'd be a fan due to the fully knurled shaft.
I haven't but have heard it has great knurling. The 28.5mm dissuaded me from buying one last time.
pretty interesting great review, I also discovered this company a few months ago and this is definitely the best review I have seen on this particular bar. thanks! Heck yeah I entered the contest
Awesome, thank you!
“I didnt really know what to do with my hands there” hahahahahhah hilarious!!!!
Good ol Ricky Bobby
How's the spin? I don't do Olympic lifts, but I am still interested in how good the spin is, especially with a heavy load on.
Would say "medium" on this, which is ideal for a power bar IMO
I know it is a power bar but can you clean with it? Is it acceptable
I'm trying to find a bar that will serve power lifting but work acceptably with power clean.
I wouldn't want to do a lot of catches with this center knurl. Maybe look into something like a Gymway power bar which has a more passive center, or even something like Rogue Chan bar that's 28.5mm but has a passive center knurl as well.
Have you tried the shoes? Going to order some just wondered what you thought
I haven't. I've found I gravitate towards flats these days
Ahhh I see
I just figure if lu wears them they just be good! I wish they sold his gold ones
@@getstrongby4038 I'm interested in these as well. As many reviews did a video
ruclips.net/video/E3dZ7G_uUjI/видео.html
This is pretty dope! I agree about a full knurl!! Or I just wish we had a unique bar for each lift in comp. squat bar @ 29mm with a full knurl across. Bench typical power although an argument for 28-28.5 is cool. Deadlift bar with whip or without and better knurl marks for sumo and conv but tbh idk if that really matters much. I just hate both a traditional squat bar and the fact a power bar in usapl goes for squat. It tremendously rolls up my back from lack of knurl but squat squat bars whip too much because of bar length. I’m gonna buy this bar and review the crap out of it tho, I like the slightly wider knurl
Curious to hear your thoughts. Try to win one before you buy
For someone in a high humidity environment (Coastal SC) , should I worry about chrome sleeves rusting in contrast to a full stainless bar?
At ~ 400 I'm looking at the Rep Power bar Ex, Luxiaojun, or Rogue power bar.
I still don't think so personally. If you live in really humid environment even stainless will oxidize quickly.
What is the distance in between the knurl? If I’m not mistaken Ohio power bar is 16 1/2”? It looks like that space is smaller on the luxiojun bar. That might be an important factor for people, I measure my bench grip from the smooth with my thumb since intake a relatively narrow grip. Can see it at 5:48
Just measured, it's 16.5" as well.
@@BasementBrandon Thanks for checking! it must be an illusion in the video since the center knurl is significantly larger. Thanks again!
A few have already commented this, but I wanted to see a comparison with the Rep Power Bar EX. You barely mentioned it in this video.
Also, Coop thinks the rep bar is better than the Ohio PB. What’s your opinion on it after months of use?
If you prefer mountains to volcano, REP is the way to go. However I find I use my OPB more than the REP still. With an imported bar I find the bar you get largely depends on the batch. Some are good, some have issues. With Rogue you're usually going to get the same experience. Kind of like the budweiser or barbells if you will.
@@BasementBrandon All fair points. Great analogy. 10/10 experience as a follower. I love that you actually reply to your community. Thanks for keeping us well informed and focused on what matters.
@@carloslaboy4279 no problem my dude.
Have you ever considered to buy an Eleiko powerlifting bar ???
I have considered it, but I haven't been able to justify paying 2x more for a bar that doesn't return 2x the value.
Since this bar has comp. Collars and the weights are closer to the center do you have problems hitting the rack during walk out with squats?
I don't only b/c I"m used to using bars like this, but if you're not it will def cause you to clean up your walkout if you have a wider rack.
I just ordered the strongarm power bar (I believe it is the same as the bells of steel bar) but now I already want one of the stainless ones either Rogue, Rep or this one.
The StrongArm one is actually a really good bar man these aren’t much better tbh
It's a good bar (not as good since they jacked the price up), but different camps. I find my Lu bar has more aggressive knurling and I like the SS finish vs bare, but the price difference is still like $150.
I also ordered the calibrated plates from strongarm at the same time so definitely felt like saving money on the bar. But will still probably want stainless at some point in the future. I am sure there power bar and calibrated plates well be a really good combo for now though.
How much sleeve to bar contact rattle is there? How smooth are the sleeves?
The best answer I can give you is "normal"
Sooooo. What’s your suggestion to top 3 power bars at this point. Am I correct with this being 1, rogue 2 , kabuki 3? What are your thoughts on purchasing a squat bar. Thanks bro.
It really depends. I think for most people the OPB is the best option. Good specs, solid construction, lots of finish options, and won't break the bank.
Why would you buy it in the first place if you already own multiple bars ?
I review equipment and I like comparing.
How often do you rotate between this bar and other you own whether doing squats, pressing or deadlifts??
I have a ton of bars (25), so I rotate quite a bit.
Hey Brandon, if you could only choose one, would you choose this bar or the Rep Power Bar Ex?
Based off the copies I have, the Lu bar.
I would like a Kabuki NGPB but living in France it's about 1150€ to get them, the Mastery power bar is not on the European site so i think i'll go with a rogue OPB SStell when they come back in stock, but this Mastery Power Bar has got my attention, thanks for the video
I find I don’t use my kabuki that often. It’s a good bar but you can get equal/better bars for less $
@@BasementBrandon Oh really? Yes I think if you can have it for less than 700 bucks it's more interesting than paying the same price as for an eleiko one like here 😅, thanks for the reply
Brandon, curious your thoughts on this bar versus the Bells of Steel Barenaked bar?
My biggest gripe with the BoS bar was the knurling was different depending on the spot your gripped. Still a solid bar, it not as good of a deal since they raised the price.
Man... I have never heard of this brand. I was looking hard at the Rep Fitness Power Bar EX, but after some recent reports of poor QI (I have tons of Rep gear and have had no problems) I started looking at USA made barbells. Now I see this that is supposed to be better than a Rogue OPB... I want to jump on it but the USA made Rogue (what many would consider the industry standard) isn't that much more before shipping. I like the bigger center knurl on this... I don't know man!
All are great options tbh.
I wish this video came out during the black friday sale
Same price as during black friday!
Curious review. Was sold on SS OPB but in AUS it’s $680 plus shipping. Now this comes along at $525 with free shipping.. decisions decisions.
Update. On checkout they don’t and won’t ship to AUS..
ah bummer
Any chance you’re picking up their E1 power bar?
prob not!
Hi Brandon, does this barbell have ribbed or smooth sleevs?
Ribbed
Hey Brandon. Love the content you post.
Quick question:
Looking at the site, it looks like the E1 Power Bar has all of the same specs and knurling features as the bar you reviewed in this vid; just a different finish on the bar. Currently listed for $288. You see any differences other than stainless vs black chrome that would make you wanna steer clear?
Thanks!
Not going to be nearly as sharp or grippy and going to feel dull. Also more prone to corrosion and flaking.
@@patrickloper3844 Thanks. Are you commenting based on experience with the bars or just assuming given the knows downsides of a coated bar versus a stainless bar?
@@christiancoker2398 I had black oxide OPB for 4 years and have had the Luxiaojunbarbell mastery bar for 2 weeks. Sold the black oxide, not even close.

The mastery bar actually has more aggressive knurling standard, then when you add chrome on top to the e1 it's even more subdued. Just depends on what you want!
Not available in Europe for some reason. And the stainless steel Ohio Power bar is 660 USD plus shipping over here.

Good review, interesting bar. You ever use the isellfitness power bar? I got it because they're local and costs $200. It's.... alright. 29mm, aggressive knurl, definitely not perfect.
Yep! Did a review. I liked mine a lot, the issue I found was the QC from batch to batch. After I did my video they got a new batch in (including stainless) and it had a more passive knurl :(
@@BasementBrandon know what? I did see that review lol. Completely slipped my mind. My biggest issue is the sleeves. The plates have to be 100% centered otherwise they get stuck.
That is nice! I’m sold on stainless steel as well!

29 mm you will find at powerlifting meets so if you are going to do that then that is what you should get.
Sometimes feds use a TPB (including USAPL) which is 28.5mm
@@BasementBrandon I assume that's only at some USAPL meets, I competed with them last January and they used an OPB for all 3 lifts.
@@GoMaDssb It's up to the meet director, the ones near me only use Eleiko bars. If you look at the rulebook though a lot of bars meet the specs.
Lu Xiao Jun, an elite Olympic weightlifter, unfortunately the same cannot be said about the quality of the gym equipment sold in his name.
are people complaining about the quality of the products?
I haven’t run into any issues with the 2 bars I’ve owned.
The red flags for this company are the same for all Chinese companies. Can the quality stay consistent over time? Are the stated specs actually true? Unfortunately, the Chinese track record over the decades is going to probably result in a NO on both of those questions.
I'm interested to see how this holds true for a company actually based out of china vs a US one that imports from multiple shops in china.
@@BasementBrandon Excellent point! I'm also curious.
I’ve had this bar for about two weeks now. The knurl is sloppy, as stated in the video. To me, this is a deterrent as some peaks are cut off more than others. The lack of knurl consistency and all the metal shavings are less than desirable. In addition, the sleeve spin is not smooth at all. It’s like they are off axis and the shaft rubs the collar at one point in the revolution creating very abrupt stops. This has caused the bar to rotate out of my hands on pulls that I have done easily in the past. So, in my experience, the QC/rushed production has detracted from the value of this bar. To each their own, I guess.
Do you pull mixed or hook?
@@Worldgonemad Just normal overhand. The bar is too course for hook grip, and I have bicep issues so I don’t do mixed grip.
I haven’t run into the inconsistencies personally. When did you get yours?
@@BasementBrandon I ordered directly from Luxiaojun barbell and received the bar on 11/28.

The most important thing about a bar is that you can lift the weight you put on it.
What’s the point in watching bar review videos if that’s your outlook lol. All bars are not the same.
I think for a home gym bar selection is super important. It's an investment.
@@BasementBrandon What I was saying was more of a philosophical quote, but I agree that having a good bar is extremely important, and one should get the best bar that they can afford.
Remind me to wipe.
k
Thoughts on this vs the Rep Deep Knurl EX you reviewed last year? Similar price for stainless bars.
The rep for me was still behind the OPB. So currently I'd say my top 3 are: Luxiaojun, then Rogue, then Rep (Kabuki being bumped to 4th).
@@BasementBrandon Wow! This is very cool info!
I just want to know how long it took you to master the pronunciation of this company
I still do t know how to say it
Fascinating that the extra chop on the knurl ends up being a plus for 'grippy/sharp' combo :D
Silver lining for sure lol
So let me get this straight. People complain about Rogue barbells being overpriced, but have no problems with a Chinese made bushing power bar for $400?
He's obviously getting the virus maneyyyy...
@@willcresson8776 cool, as long as I get to lift !
There's different camps right? Those who think $200 for a bar will def think this is overpriced, but those looking for a stainless bar know that it costs more. This is the most affordable power bar in SS that I've come across and my copy is fantastic. Although one of the gambles of going import is bars vary from batch to batch, so in a lot of cases I'd prob be willing to pay more for a US made bar where consistency is a bit better across the board.
@@BasementBrandon I am in the camp that if a Rogue can make the SS OPB in the US using US steel, US labor, and sell it for $425. Then there is no way that it costs a Chinese company only 10% less to make the same bar using Chinese steel, and Chinese labor.
Bells Of Steel sell their bare stell 29mm power bar with comp sleeves for $199 with free shipping from Canada. And they are not even a Chinese company, they simply make their bars in China. Stainless steel bars are generally 30%-50% more than their bare steel counter parts. This would put the reasonable price for LuXiajun bar at $300 at the very max. They are price gouging the US consumer without even bothering to maintain their machinery that they use cut the knurl (that's why it's not as clean as Rogue's). They can sell that bar for $250 all day with free shipping and maintain excellent margins.
This is the same company that sells the Anta weightlifting shoe which is a copy of the Romaleos 2 for $300.
They think the American consumer is a moron, and I don't recommend people prove them right.
@@yevgeniyfiskin4781 While I agree there is a mark up, you also have to realize that Rogue is able to offer lower costs due to production and scale. Look at American Barbell's stainless power bar for $500 as a reference.
I'm sure it's a good bar. But it's $400 imported bar. For me I'll spend the extra couple dollars for a Rogue bar.
What do you think people think in Europe who buy a OPB?
Agreed. Let's invest more of our money in to China, not! I'd buy a good American made bar for more just to keep jobs over here. I do own Rogue and Eleiko. About $400 for a Chinese bar, no thanks!
@@BasementBrandon I'm thinking about cheap imported stuff like Titan brings in. There is a big difference between that and importing an Ohio Power Bar.
First bitches
Nice 👌
Just received this bar and so far have no complaints - the knurling does need to be brushed to get the flakes off but like you mentioned not a big deal. I pull hook grip and usually with my black zinc OPB I don't like holding it at the top due to the discomfort/pain but was relatively painless with this bar and the grippiness is just as good if not better.
Some other things to note (vs. my 20kg OPB):
- my plates fit on tighter on this bar
- the collars appear to be slightly thinner
Was a bit worried after seeing that one comment here but haven't ran into any major issues with my version of the bar
appreciate the first hand feedback!
What are your thoughts on the knurling for this bar? I know you said it was grippy and you seem to like it. I bought this bar to kinda do a little bit of everything for curling exercises.I feel like it is a little bit aggressive, but I have to get used to it. Do you think it’s more of a medium aggressive or what is your detailed opinion of it
So a lot of it will depends on what you're looking for and what you've used in the past. I find this bar to be on the more aggressive side compared to "regular" barbells. For powerlifting specific bars I"d put it in the above medium category. I don't think it's over the top and you should get acclimated quite quickly.
What happen to this barbell? They are out of stock?
Company is no longer in business from what I can tell. Try Hansu if you'd like something similar.
Thin comp collars is my daily driver. Bare steel. SAS PowerBar. Basically the BoS PowerBar. Very stiff. Aggressive grippy knurl. Stainless would be nice, but mostly for squat.
agreed, it's a solid bar!
Dang, it Brandon! I was about to purchase a Rogue Ohio Power Bar to replace my dated 20-year-old bare metal Texas Power bar. My TPB will become my landmine bar. I compared the Ohio Power Bar specs to the stainless steel Luxiajun Mastery Power Bar specs. I prefer the specs of the Luxiajun. The Rogue Ohio Power bar and the Luxiajun Mastery Power Bar are superior to my Texas Power Bar. My only concern is quality control on the Luxiajun Mastery Power Bar, as Rogue is known for outstanding quality control. With that being said, I took the plunge and ordered the stainless steel Luxiajun Mastery Power Bar based on their specs, your positive review, and other positive reviews on Luxiajun's barbells.
Very interested to hear your thoughts once you get it.
Really having difficulty picking between this, the rep fitness deep knurl power bar, and the Rogue Ohio power bar in stainless. If you had to pick one out of the 3 would it be the LUXIAOJUN bar?
it depends. If you want comp collars the LU bar. If you want grippy but not sharp knurling, the Rogue. If you want something with a bit of bite and thicker collars, the REP
Very interesting bar to add to the existing options in stainless steel
A very solid entry IMO!
Not sure if you can help me but I'm blind I have been trying to get stronger I've been using a 1inch barbell with cheap plates that wobble and throw me off slightly but also I can't grip the bar evenly so my lifts are mostly uneven I almost pulled my shoulder will a higher quality bar and plates help me grip even with me blind or should I use dumbells even though I want to train for strength any suggestions I would appreciate it
They can help for sure with the rotating sleeves, knurl and ring marks. However, you can get by on some of that if you have someone help you take some sort of marker, like tape, to denote where your hands would be even on the bar.
I feel like the weirdo. After handling stainless steel, bare steel, and black zinc I feel in love with the black zinc. To each their own I suppose.
Some people don't care for the closer feel
Idk why anyone would prefer agressive sharp knurl, just a recipe for getting your hands ripped.
Never had my tear after 20+ years of training.
Do you also use this bar for pressing and or rowing movements too ? Thanks for your reviews.
You def can! I have way too many bars so I rotate through them.
Have you used their plates? Was looking into getting some of their competition bumpers
I have not.
@@BasementBrandon thanks for the quick reply man! So tough ordering from companies that you have limited information on.
Today, I received my stainless steel Luxiajun Mastery Power Bar. The power bar was packaged in a long rectangular box secured with straps and packaging tape. The bar was cradled and protected in styrofoam and a long clear plastic sheath. Grade A+ for packaging. The power bar had minimal flakes on the bar/ knurling and the sleeves were very lightly coated with oil. The power bar looks fantastic and a high-quality bar. The knurling is tight, grippy, and feels solid in my hands when gripping it. How does it compare to my old bare steel Texas Power Bar? It crushes my Texas Power Bar as a powerlifting bar. My Texas Power Bar is more like a general fitness bar compared to Luxiajun Mastery Power Bar. This stainless steel Luxiajun Mastery Power Bar is my new daily driver and worth every penny. Thanks, Brandon brother.
Really appreciate the detailed feedback. I always worry about some of these imports as I know consistency can be an issue. Sounds like you got an even better copy than I did!

How would you compare this with the ISellFitness SS PB?
The last run of ISF SS power bars had pretty mild knurling from what I heard.
Have you ever reviewed the Kansas Power Bar bar by Solid Bar Fitness?
I have not.
Nice review I like your style. Any bar you are reviewing next?
I have a GymWay training bar to review (28.5mm)
Thanks for the review. I just did my first workout with the E Powerbar by LuXiaoJun. I ordered some of the bumper plates too.
Thoughts?
@@BasementBrandon I like it. I don't have experience working out with nice bars. For the most part the gyms I go to have generic, cheaper stuff. The knurling on this stuff is serious. I've been working out a good while and right now my hands and fingers feel like I put them through a cheese grater. I'm not a very heavy lifter (275x8 today on deadlifts), but the bar felt good. The plates I can tell I'm going to hate. Loading and unloading the bumper plates are a pain. Nothing to grab on to and I certainly can't grip a 55lb fat plate and move it. They are fine for now, and they're quiet, which is good because I have 3 boys under 6 and another kid on the way. But I wish I had spent a little more and got the calibratiled steel plates. Overall I can't complain. 299 for the bar feels like a steal.
$400 though _ I'll take it for free though!
Well worth it IMO.
Nope. I wont buy Chinese if I can help it.
to each their own!
Blasphemy Brandon
I know. I feel like I'm a sinner.
